[Music] hello everyone how are you doing this is mdtech here another quick tutorial today I'm going to show you guys how to resolve PDF files if they're not opening up and displaying properly on Windows 10 so assuming that the file itself is not corrupt and it's working properly and displaying properly on other machines and you're having issues opening up PDF through either Adobe Acrobat or Microsoft edge this tutorial will be for you guys so as many of you guys probably figured out if you've been using Windows 10 for a little while there is a built-in PDF reader that is accessible through opening up the Microsoft edge web browser and for those who might have upgraded from earlier versions of Windows or who are just familiar with Adobe Acrobat Reader as their default application to opening up PDFs they might be experiencing issues with trying to access such a file so in this brief tutorial I'm going to show you guys how to hopefully resolve this so assuming you do have Adobe Acrobat already installed on your machine I recommend you check that if you're not sure by going underneath programs and features first because obviously we cannot address that if you do not have Adobe Acrobat and already installed so once you've confirmed that what we're going to do is head into the Start menu and we're going to left-click on it and we're going to type in default and then when type in default the best match that comes up should say default programs you want to left-click on that so now if you scroll down on this choose default apps page go down to the bottom you want a left click align set default spy app at the bottom of this list show open up a new window here now this screen will be more reminiscent of Windows 7 and Windows 8 you so now on the left side here you want to left-click on the Adobe Acrobat Reader you can either set this program as default just across the board for all defaults or you could choose default specifically for this program if you left click on choose defaults for this program it will bring up a list of ones that could potentially also be associated with the Adobe Acrobat Reader you can also check mark this box for the PDF file just a generic PDF that would otherwise be opened up in Microsoft edge so maybe if that was your problem that should hopefully resolve it and then you just would left click on save and if for some reason Microsoft edge seems to be doing this a lot by opening up PDFs you could scroll down to Microsoft edge right here let's look on choose defaults for this program and you can see which applications and which file types are going to be opened up by Microsoft edge by default again you can change this just the same way as you did with Adobe Reader I would not recommend clicking on the button that says that this program is default because that I'll just do it across the board if you want to actually see while you're changing the default or I recommend clicking on the second button here so if that still does not work for you guys there's one further thing we can do and that would be to now open up the Adobe Acrobat Reader user interface so if you actually do get this pop up when you're opening up Adobe Reader you can make it default by clicking on do it now this is what was in part of this tutorial but if for some reason you get it pop like this perfect example of something that might come up when you're doing this you can definitely click on do it now and then try and open up your Adobe Reader to make sure it works how it's supposed to now I don't think it'll actually disappear it does it for you you actually have to manually do it or just will direct you to the proper windows library but definitely I mean if you want to try it if maybe you did it wrong for some reason so if we go to the help tab at the top left and then left click on check for updates this is definitely something you can do and hopefully maybe that could resolve your shoot as well again try to open up your PDF once you've tried running up for updates and if you don't see anything there's one further thing we can try and that would be to go up to the Edit tab at the top left again left click on where it says preferences so now on the left side you want to left click on security and then in parentheses enhanced right next to it so left click on that now at this point you want to uncheck where it says enable protected mode at startup you might get a little warning here telling you that you will be turning off readers protection mode in order for this changes to take effect you have to manually restart the application please note that protected view will also get disabled after this change now I do not recommend you keep this disabled permanently but if you're at this point in the tutorial I would recommend just turning this off temporarily by clicking on yes here close the application restart Adobe or just restart it by trying to open up your PDF and it works at that point you figured out what your problem was if it didn't work I recommend going back into Adobe and enabling it again so I hope that one of these six or seven methods that we kind of went through and this tutorial will work for you guys and as always thank you for watching and I will catch you in the next tutorial goodbye
