[Music] good afternoon around the world we are coming to you from calgary alberta canada known for hosting the greatest outdoor show on earth the calgary stampede in july we're in cowboy country spring is definitely upon us as the familiar canadian geese all right in the bow river on the water banks you still see some ice out there but the curling graves from around the world they've embarked on the canada olympic park and the winsport arena for the bkt tires and okay tire world men's curling championship 2021 as we are into the afternoon session session 17 playoff spots on the line positioning so much to talk about we'll get through all that throughout here in this afternoon session our feature game our eyes will be directed against canada taking on rcf session 17 both these teams know they need to do what they can do to try and get into those top six positions and we'll talk you through scenarios and where all those are at as best we can as we get you set up for this one with the two teams canada of course a couple big wins yesterday along with rcf let's meet the teams for canada their skip brennan botcher their third darren molding second brad thiessen and their lead carrick martin taking on rcf coming in a little bit of the surprise team with their skip sergey glukov third evgeny klimov second dimitri miranov and their lead anton kalab so this is where we will now show you where everything sits coming into session 17 sweden has a session off there at eight and two half game up on canada norway rcf in scotland with two losses seven and two usa right behind at six and three that's the last playoff spot right there and switzerland five and four italy four and five three and six for japan most likely those six and more will be eliminated won't be into the playoff competition italy has to win out but we'll talk you through there in action as well here in session 17 full slate of games and we'll tee those up for you japan takes on netherlands on shiday japan at six losses more than likely it's too many but they want to try and win out and also play for pride along against netherlands scotland taking on the us playoff implications there seven and two versus six and three italy i told you that four and five is now taking on norway who's ahead of them at seven and two trying to bring them back and two seven and two teams in our feature game doesn't get much better than that as i will welcome you inside and introduce lovely colleague olympian canadian champion melissa seligo it doesn't get better we look at these these two match up very evenly it's incredible and as we were just talking uh before the game started here luke about to start is we talked about how both of these teams actually had a loss a couple of days ago came out strong yesterday with two big wins each team had two big wins yesterday and that has put them at this seven and two record and it is going to be a battle out on the ice today they've already had one battle that's won by canada that's the last own draw numbers which are crucial the way everything's just a log jam of two lost teams i could determine playoff positioning i know and so just to get you caught up on on that is each team does throw a clockwise and a counterclockwise draw to the button prior to every single game and they're measured and then they're calculated together and the lowest number is the one who will get hammer for this particular game however all of those numbers throughout your 13 games are are accumulating and they get rid of believe the highest and the lowest yes and then they come up with uh put you in a ranking compared to how you did with the last stone draw so it is absolutely critical that you do well on every single time that you throw the draw to the button and those come in when head to head cannot resolve the tie we'll get through those there are the draw shot numbers canada 28.9 centimeters rcf 94.7 28.9 that'll help canada they're sitting right near the top top third of the the field in a good position so just to wait to go ahead the rules of play we'll break it down six ends minimum 38 minutes of thinking time given with 160 second timeout seven and two versus seven and two they both have three games remaining after this a couple of tough games two tough games against teams that are in the the playoff mix both will play norway canada gets sweden tonight rcf has norway also and then one team below them so break it all down as we begin brandon knows he's in for a busy day well that's the thing it it really even though you may play teams above or below you or even with you it's the added pressure now in these last couple days of competition there's so much more pressure you want to finish in that top six so just put all that together and you have to find a way to bring your best performance every time you step out on the ice so anton kalau start this game off for rcf i know we've mentioned luke that some you know some people might think that rcf is maybe a little bit of a surprise being where they are at seven and two but i've done a couple of their games thus far this week and i've seen them play and honestly every single player is they're just playing so well they're numbers in comparison to canada's very very close so it's going to be a battle almost positional out there go ahead then go ahead go ahead and go ahead line's good line's good it doesn't need to curl great shot car nice oh right in behind to the top half of the rings we've talked about the top six making the playoffs those six teams will also qualify their nation for the olympic winner games next year so add that to the mix and you think there's pressure it's going to get tighter and tighter in these next couple of days to finish off round rock impact of the olympic qualification is so huge and it's only 10 months away i think yeah we're less than a year less than a year away wow it's a lot of pressure to put on these teams here this nice freeze there good shots by the lead so far here in this game [Music] is going to look to i think consistency is probably their biggest thing they've had moments in games where they've really put together some good ends but then have let things slip a little bit some inconsistency at crucial times that's a great point and we talk about that you you want to play within a sort of a bandwidth of hey we're right off of a consistency and you want that bandwidth to be small so you're always playing you know plus or minus two percent or whatever that happens to be five percent of a good number but if you're kind of dipping up and down and up and down it's really just biting 12-foot and you would think sometimes luke you would you would almost guess that with so much on the line for these two teams in this particular game that you may be a little hesitant to come out of the gate playing with a lot of rocks and play but both teams willing to mix it up i'm not messing around rcf has a very aggressive team i've noticed in watching their games coming in haven't seen too many games of this team play it's a great shot so team canada not much option here just based on where those two yellow stones are sitting at the top of the 12. they're gonna make the peel attempt trying just open things up to the scoring area [Applause] clean clean everything in the rings now yes in sweeping styles we'll bring your attention throughout the game but see collab there almost in behind the stone whereas we'll see the canadian side and kyrik martin's probably a good example he's out well out in front and off to the side and that depends on what you want to accomplish when you're brushing do you want it to drag it farther do you want it to uh carve it or curl it or do you want to keep it straight so right now carl is trying to keep this one straight so we just go off to the side trying to get in front of the running band or the running path of the stone on the outer edge this is a great call by rcf they're totally ignoring those that redstone currently that's sitting in the top of the rings there and the two yellow stones their yellow stones are in complete control right now whatever [Music] decisions are being made obviously being here in canada and watching the canadian championship to see watchers team much more than rcf when bachelor's putting the broom down and very confidently it carries on to his performance and throwing the stone such an excellent point when you see brendan sort of hesitating and just not sure where to put the broom it does impact it kind of affects the flow beauty that's good makes the roll to the wing for darren molding so important for darren to have stuck in the rings there's not that much good sweet high sweeping it yeah rcf is really trying to force team canada to a single point here in the first hand they don't really want to allow them to blank so a hidden stick here is really important that's two just unforced errors by rcf to hit and roll roll outs okay your back four kind of weight sure not bad as long as you just it can't be on the nose gotta stagger them a little yeah i hear the comment there by friend and they want to stagger it a little they obviously don't want to hit it right on the nose and line it up so they use their stone and they just create a good angle for themselves by hitting it on they did not [Applause] that's okay it's a blank yeah assuming that everything's gonna be gone after this one good throw thanks that was a great look at it luke basically what's going to happen now is with the red and yellow stone frozen in front one in front of the other glue cloth just has to hit it anywhere on the high side and those two rocks are going to drag he's going to try and get rid of this red one the red one he's going to lose a shooter and the yellow one's going to go straight back on to the other red and it will as brendan says a blanket will be available still some rocks to come obviously but if it plays out the same [Music] the nose wasn't what they wanted for the canadian side and in fairness for team canada they're more than happy to blank this end obviously they'd love to take hammer into the even end to the second end [Applause] yep doesn't have this problem they'll make the nose hit second most blank ends four with the hammer in the event next to italy so show them that when they need to they'll just blank and reset sergey gluckoff not wasting any time he didn't even bother to go down and replace the broom pretty straight forward last couple of stones here i'd love to stick around and make it maybe just a titch heavy or touch harder but so we'll talk about that maybe there you go as this one will just be thrown through for a blank first end good throw get another look at a different spot in the ice puts zeros up on the board no score in our feature game canada rcf so second hand canada rcf still no score it was a blank first canada had a two set up but just didn't quite play a tap setting up but no harm no foul no score put up regroup and try and set up a multiple point score in the second end and that's the thing for team canada obviously they wanted to try and generate a deuce but they knew even if they made what we're going to call a small error but not really just by nosing that one it did set up the blank opportunity and made no mistake by rcf rolling out on glucose last shot made it very easy to plank [Music] centerline guard second straight end and canada trying to play the come around i don't want this very deep i would like to keep it at max top eight now the position of all these freezes is so important yeah some someone look at that and go why would they not want it top four but the closer you bring it into the four foot the smaller the scoring area gets and it's only the third second second rock of the of the end so you want to try and just go top eight you know that rcf is gonna likely freeze and then you're going to probably play kind of the cat mouse game chasing each other there for the like they did in the first hand just a corner freeze here it's a nice shot we'll see if it's the same plan now draw to the wing as they saw in the first end change of tactic here [Music] so they're looking for top 12 and the sweepers are calling t-line top button so they're trying to go plan b here and get it by okay just had to make that call just slightly earlier so it looks to me like rcf is all in here they they're really going after team canada they could easily hit that one i'm not sure if they could roll under but they're actually playing the freeze very very aggressive call without hammer i like it makes things a lot more interesting this one looks a little light so you play the aggressive game you need to make those shots that's the problem it's one of the things we always say from a coaching perspective you can call any game you want any tactic you want any strategy you want however your execution has to equal to what you call if it doesn't then it gets you into a lot of trouble very very quickly mine's good wait wait it's close easy if you can okay you can't easy easy easy if you can whoa wait it's good little like room we're closed now turtle car it's good only if you can line's closed let's go if you can no okay that's good very good what a great shot good shot good and the constant communication down the ice that's what we saw early in the week the last couple days from the canadian side obviously two wins yesterday but it didn't there's the vibe from the team seemed different than what we've seen already in this game and it's interesting every team has their own what we're gonna what we call systems so they've got a communication system they have routines they have different ways of you know different weight calls all those kinds of things and when those systems break down then it's much more difficult to perform at your best dimitri mironov just peels their own out i don't think he liked it he was looking to maybe onto their own yellow in the top of the 12 foot yeah that's that's two misses there by dimitri for this end really didn't help his team here at all and i like that i kind of like that because he's got this rap if he wants it give me t-line t-line hair high like three-quarters high with t two-thirds yeah yeah same way yeah so still early in this end and canada line three okay they're gonna unlock that redstone that's sitting just behind the yellow rcf stone yep hard line come on whoa whoa still falling close yeah there you go no one [Applause] just tried to change those angles and get it unlocked 2016 in this chase position we saw rcf get off to a big lead against the us yesterday and then come back and hold them off but they got messy and some ends this will run by and just touch that red stone so really a ton of half shots so far this end this one again over curling just not maybe icing looks like they maybe need to take a little more ice like i'm throwing top i'm curious why they didn't actually go for the one the two we can sweep them that we're sitting in the top one inch you remember your drawing [Music] if rcf would have gone off or gone after the two that are sitting over there they could have just left their shooter right in front and then put themselves in a good position because you only would have lost one redstone pretty heavy heavy instead they played a good shot it was much higher degree of difficulty fairways out there okay are we around still heavy but we're back close we're rather not not close it up i want to just just rejig these angles they'll go right around it that's good not bad canada canadian coach knowing your opposition is sitting four right now i feel like you have to hit something here try and keep your shooter in play if there's any chance of that well i'll only move that one back just gets rid of one stone okay it's better because the four foot's open now it's better that the forefoot is open but it's better also for canada as well because now their rocks are spread out so they're in a decent position here they they needed that one to curl another two three four inches gonna be a lot of pressure here on blue to make i got a good chunk is this all about trying to put pressure on your opponent now yeah team canada has a hammer here obviously in the second hand and they are looking good and the only obstacle [Applause] and they'll just touch it do they get away with it a little bit it's second shot now for rcf it's a huge break for rcf wow it was close just didn't throw it that good you said really good oh that was good brushers tried everything in their power to hold this one and it just hit the red one first as you said luke didn't have enough momentum to hit that yellow one out as well [Music] [Applause] i do have that center line guard up there's canada line one at the moment couple options here kind of an interesting scenario okay the center line helped you a little bit tried to stay just on the other side of it the obvious and when you look at it like that the obvious choice is this look at this kind of turn counter clockwise but you have to remember that canada has that one in the top 12 that you can usually tangle back and get one out the other option of course would come around the guard the other way and show them a piece on the open side makes it much more difficult for canada but i know they're trying to believe the one at the back i gotta get there first right leave that one for their last just to see they want to get now that there's a bit of a miss by rcf they want to get in there first they know they're sending one if they can get this half buried around sit two in the forefoot lots of pressure and if they ever missed they're dying as it's coming in huge in for canada keep an eye on this one we've seen a couple rocks actually come up late wait only so far in this game couple this end and i think one lost in a little a little heavy pretty heavy this one doesn't sound like it's going to be light like not not beside it though i also want to go back 12. something just here right here no mistake goes right back on the canadian side all right he's supposed to be careful oh yeah yeah i like this slide because i like the slides yeah okay i mean 13-3 makes sense yeah you hear that number thirteen three that's where we always look for about fourteen and a half fourteen seven hog to hog that's the time the rock travels between those two hog lines so this is a big draw for glukov right now rcf they really need to be shot rock and get this in a good position but it's the same he just threw with his first should have a good feel for this spot [Music] just starting to walk its way right into the forefoot well it's for two for sure right yeah you know we can get this yeah being a little bit picky i think luke but in fairness to rcf i actually would have taken that back as far as i could leave this and not easy but you leave this slight angle for team canada to score deuce here whereas it as if you take that yellow one all the way back this shot's not there and they'd have to draw for their wine like it won't go crazy it's that's just those little things positions it should it'll be positioning is so so very important you got it it's a candid opportunity slash it onto that another way you could make the raised double but wanting to make sure they score two yep whoa whoa a lot of red piling up in the rings get one and we'll roll off the top two oh they lost it just get the one yeah one wow that's a hard way to get a single with your rcf i think you take a deep side relief sorry man just one canada and a one nothing lead good throw nice [Music] yes [Music] well we begin the third end canada leading one nothing what could have been a lot of stones lingering in the rings and anytime you do that you're flirting with a a disaster melissa seligo myself lou coley vkt tires and okay tire world men's curling championship you said it luke rcf should be breathing a sigh of relief they you know missed their first skip stone made a perfect one on their second well almost a perfect one he actually couldn't made it even better but they got away with one there and it is a younger team obviously the rcf hasn't had that much success at the world championship level and haven't been to as many nearly as many as canada best finished ninth place right now they're looking automatically almost got their best finish ever sewn up now they're looking top six playoffs trying to get into the onto the podium a very aggressive rcf team i found [Music] that first shot of rcf they actually could have thrown a corner guard because of that redstone so tight it's a really short run for team canada if they choose to do that so they may have wanted to throw a corner but it seems like they really want to bring the play into into the center and and rcf really not afraid of anything here straight t t top four great sweep right around we've seen this a lot from rcf they play this chip shot especially on the second of lead stones and they play it specifically to roll their shooter into play they're not too concerned about where the canada stone ends up what's most important is that they roll their shooter into play and with that other yellow stone they could be potentially sitting second or third yeah that rock i would say was about a good five to ten feet light needed some more action off it just to reiterate what those numbers mean one to three is the area between the hog line and the top of the rings it's just a system that teams use for brushing and communication so they're looking for a three which means tight to the ring so one would just be over the hog line good job all right good shot that does its job i believe a little bit of a port there i think [Music] foreign melissa the aggressive game works when you're making the shots and that's when rcf has had success they get chasing when they have their half shots like last end and we saw dimitri struggle the loss and he made two maybe even less than half shots so this is a big shot but here luke is so small i'm not sure he can actually squeeze through it and get much of a roll so that's plan b and that's a great shot oh he didn't quite get it okay but it's still in good position it does set up a potential double though we want it okay is that other one in two no okay no it's out yeah yeah i like that double then yeah i do too what is it it's a half rock half yeah it looks like that am i in you're in should be nice not too curly we're trying to make this double both of them lie three whoa brad one of the few lefties in the field this year at the world championships pushes it over not fully out okay just hit it a little too thick looks like yellow rcf stone is second shot it didn't get darren on it maybe soon enough it was needed to curl up even just another inch we would have had it [Applause] at least yes trying to hit and roll what a shot great weight control that's a good bounce back for dimitri yep two-thirds yeah see these swings so often now momentum going rcf's way how can canada stop that you need a big shot here trying the double i believe enough to spill it out again just missing these shots all right look just just not quite getting a a really good release on the ice and where to put the broom right now just to make a quick mention though prior to the event the teams had three practice sessions to get ready for the ice conditions and as the week goes on the ice gets straighter so the rocks were actually touched up last night and what that means is there's going to be more curl in the game today so they haven't had time to practice between when the rocks were touched up in today's game and you can see that with both of these teams they're just just missing by half an inch to an inch that extra little curl you might get after they do that with the stones exactly and that's something normally they do at a world champ because of so many games played yeah three draws a day for a ton of days is trying to go cross house there's another half shot both teams just just not firing on all cylinders yet well this wasn't an easy double but it was definitely where you could at least hit and roll yeah it's just they would have worked yesterday yeah it's not working now that's that's my take on it [Applause] no they aren't even referencing that well you mentioned melissa about touching up to the stones and in fairness like all the teams knew it was happening they they were very well prepared for the fact that things would be a little bit different today so you just have to find a way to make the adjustment a little quicker because again you don't have that practice time the hard part but kind of an interesting coaching perspective is where you when you're not 100 percent sure what the ice is doing or the rocks you might tend to play a little simpler and not be as aggressive as both these teams are being all right into the rings top part of the house it's a great shot good position you can see that rcf stone is absolutely buried behind that red canada guard that gets us pretty close [Applause] looking at angles of that hit the t-line [Applause] i think they've elected to throw the draw that come around the high red and the yellow guard that was just thrown by marcia and that's a great point brendan makes there but if that stone of rcs was a little bit deeper like maybe full eight foot they may you may have seen them play the run but because it's in a good position you can use it as a guard easy line's good yep trying to get this one four good mine's good [Applause] great sweeping look at that comes out the other side had to work so hard to get that buy but i love that to have stopped top four it was a good sweep yeah that was the best we could do yeah it's once you committed to that point there's no sense letting up to try and ship it as soon as they were by brooms came up that's right there's a great look at it i think rcf can could see a good half of that stone so just trying to play a soft weight and would love to keep a shooter in play just roll it over to the side haven't made that adjustment we've seen a lot of curls that's a big miss luke that's uh you know this is a situation where you're going to take that little bit of extra weight or sorry extra ice because when the rocks have been done you can actually make them move more than they were moving yesterday so you can actually get the curl that you need by this by sweeping so huge break here for team canada put another one in preferably top four lines good yeah i got a little bit more mine's good clean yep this one's going sideways at what point do they decide to try and just leave it up wow it's not terrible good good that's third shot in there buddy okay a two at least it does a little bit less of a release but a faster slide i see quite as much now it was close i was trying yeah like your slide was a little faster release was a little bit less maybe still think that was minimum ice yeah for sure yeah we needed more this is a bit light the line was great we pounded it the whole way though yeah you could take it true pounded version true you're right brother i mean we probably could have made it it was yeah yeah it's the last shot right away tap it back a little bit make sure you're one yes here okay yeah and you want to play this on the aggressive side like sweep to almost miss it like if you roll out that's okay i'm trying to curl it now get enough of it hit roll out that's a score of one so both teams have had some ends set up an opportunity but only single points put up 1-1 after three [Music] all right okay well inside the winsport arena 1-1 the score canada rcf both teams have had chances with the hammer both playing very aggressive but haven't figured out the little adjustment with them touching up or sanding the stones that they did last night that's exactly right luke and just just a lot of hit and roll outs we've seen some over curls we've seen some light draws it's just been um you know just those couple of inches here and there right it's it's really important to try and make those adjustments sooner rather than later carrick martin 91 and this has been a familiar start in each of the four ends that we've played so far [Music] [Applause] cork having such a a great championship performance not quite to the same numbers as carrick martin but good numbers nonetheless at 86 percent seems like melissa whoever is going to be able to grasp handle on what the ice is doing today what the stones how the stones are reacting it's going to win this matchup i agree i i just think again so this one gets by the guard by you know two three feet and slips to the back twelve so wide and heavy not a good combination it is fully buried as you can see canada here has hammer here in this fourth end [Music] so i believe they're going to split the rings a so just a mistake and another mistake luke this is a free draw to the rings to sit too and park wasn't even close it's i mean it's a new path we haven't seen that path yet it's from inside out it's always a little trickier maybe you know when you haven't thrown a lot of rocks that way brushers have backed away [Applause] [Music] well i don't like it [Applause] just cut down the middle do we ever like we could try to tickle him and chunk it a little that'd be good i actually really like that and then roll bit yeah roll a half rock off yeah that makes sir freeze not as good yeah exactly back line that should be a pretty nice two options here for canada they could obviously go around their corner guard do you see brad's numbers eighty-six percent right but what they are i'm not sure if they think that yellow is is shot rock it could be it doesn't really matter at this point again good result there i mean the weight was perfect not far off both sides you said at the beginning melissa that these two teams line up match up very easily for percentage-wise that the biggest difference is going to be coming up in the third position but both brad and demetria are very very similar in their percentages okay try and roll building up again lost the angle he would have loved that to be right on the nose with no kind of no chip off this gives an opportunity now for canada just throwing a nice easy board weight lead [Applause] [Music] change the angles again get rid of that back yellow for sure just rolls off and it leaves rcf shot stone [Applause] these are tournament numbers cumulative over their first nine games and the first three ends of this matchup so far can put this in a good position and freeze to that red stone tough juice 14 yeah yeah 14. just better just follow it right back down you heard the number 14 again that's the hog to hog number heavy and i think what that means is it it actually is probably the same weight as yesterday but however because it curls more it takes the weight off so yesterdays they're hoping to freeze that yellow one because the rcf throws another freeze in there there'll be room for one more rock ahead of theirs and then if rcf were to cap it i'm not sure how canada can score more than one you can see brendan looking up at the side here trying to figure out if there's gonna be a way yeah both teams they do have the overheads on every sheet so everyone can see the home and away a lot of the players are using that to see the angles even when you see brendan in the house the only thing this can't be his legs yeah that really needed to be locked on gives canada a very small opening here hair left hairline hard line clean squeeze back 12. back [Music] very difficult to remove that red one let's see those seven stones behind the t line that's a great shot by darren very well managed brennan calling them on and off but more or less just staying on it so i think that even on the line that yellowstone that was just tapped is perhaps second shot right now but it has nowhere to go but out so is foreign guard that you think would not even be in play we're not sitting too are we just hair buy it and then get to the pocket sergey glucos 81 the other option is to corner freeze the one that was just thrown by darren as well you can hit the pocket there [Applause] looking to freeze that one just bounces off yeah [Applause] yeah could we could probably throw them i'm thinking i'm thinking bored i think it bounced off a little too much to be honest i like it even if you see that it's it's pretty wide open you can actually get to the inside of the board yeah i like more ways right in the crotch that's exactly right if he hits that in the crotch both yellows actually go they'll leave their shooter up front and i'm not sure what rcf's gonna do oh yeah no one tough to get rid of because of those stones in the back part potential two or maybe even three here on the board right now for i'd like to see a little more for team canada well brendon watcher 85 percent front end probably right in the crotch last shot real good yeah great hit the red one first so job one was done they they did manage to push that back yellow one out of the way nice shot thanks it was great brushing again by this canada front end thanks i think they wanted to hit the yellow first but nice and safe wide open rcf is in a ton of trouble right now i'm wondering if all they have actually is just push their yellow down like so just almost miss their yellow and push it towards the bottom i i think that's and it's tough to do that if you play quiet weight because of that corner guard another contact i think it's the only thing they have there's those screens the team's using to look at from the far end there's our sheet with a good look at it that's a messy back eightfold wow so i think that's what sergey is has elected to do like you can almost hit it thin you could hit it thick as long as you hit your yellow one it's gonna go in a decent position i'd almost be tempted to hit it maybe what you can see and actually push it to the back one deep [Music] in behind might hold him to just two i think that's a fantastic shot probably the best he could have done looks to me like the top melissa putting your coaching hat on this is probably one that you're it hurts to see with all those stones deep in the rings i yeah i think it looks so juicy but i think the only thing canada can do here is just tap that red stone for two rcf looked a little disappointed wukov did on that shot but i think that's the best he could have made it it's probably better than getting shot stone 14 you get shot then there's a show a chance at a bigger end exactly just it's just a quiet tap push this one to the button the candidate score the first deuce of the game that should be [Music] good shot deuce was well earned there by the canadian side take a 3-1 lead over rcf playoff implications in this one okay oh hey the first two goes on the board the bkt tires and okay tire world men's curling championship 2021 canada leads 3-1 our future match-up both teams coming in seven and two had two win days yesterday it's their first game of the day today canada play sweden tonight well rcf their next game will be against norway so no easier after this one you know they can really help themselves with a win in this game knowing a win they tie sweden atop the leaderboard who said it eight and two as their idol here in this session loss means you drop well out of that tie for first you're back probably in fifth or sixth and fighting for those last two playoff spots the weight of this game alone is is huge but never mind going into another game this evening against another top team for both of these teams and the thing is lucas if you win this game you've got some momentum going forward into tonight's game if you don't win this game how is that going to affect your performance going into tonight's game so it's you know there's a lot to go on i mean there's a lot of game left here and you can just see both teams and there they hog stone trying to get the corner guard up and it's almost like every miss has that much more impact on it so for rcf they they played a really decent end that last end and gluckov made the best he could on his last shot and bocce made a better one to get his deuce so it is what it is now you get the hammer back you got to do the same so you got to keep perspective here and seeing numbers like percentage-wise obviously their stats they're down on this sheet but they're also down across everyone's still getting adjusted to uh the sharpening of the stones that they were aware of be clear it wasn't a surprise to anyone that's right and just keeping in mind when the stones are sharpened they curl more which means the speed comes off faster and that's what happened when they were trying to throw the corner guard it was a new path and they were unclear of maybe communicating what weight needed to be thrown for that so it's almost like you have to when you're sliding out you almost have to have a little extension or just a a few extra feet on the what would normally be a guard weight throw i mean that's a good adjustment still sticking to the game plan rcf putting that corner up don't have a problem with those two on the center line some teams would have just bailed out and said like you know what let's make this double and set up things better in the next end and another good reason to perhaps bail out is because it's an odd end it's a fifth end so you much rather have the hammer in the even end and number six so little surprise maybe that they didn't make a play on it but it's still early the thing too is where that yellow guard has ended up you can't really throw the camera on the same way you'd almost have to go the wide side and i'm not sure you can't so you could play the run back or he's looks like it he's looking to just to play the hit and roll to another corner [Music] weight what he wanted yes exactly what he wanted all right same spot yeah good throw rats [Music] just another just something to think about as we move along in this end luke is that where those corner guards are on both sides it just makes the draw path to the button a little bit more difficult because they're kind of in the way so just something to think about i see that guard maybe over curl a little bit great opportunity here now for rcf to make a hit and just a soft roll behind the guards get rid of a canadian stone roll behind the corner and now now you have canada chasing them just lovely dimitri mironov makes that roll what a shot great shot by darren seeing that shot making back and forth now both sides that's what we're used to seeing right those are the kinds of shots we're expecting from both of these teams rcf makes a beauty and team canada answers back just like that just that one stone in the rings [Music] working hard to get this by i think it's is it bi but where does it go right in between no roll no that's one of the ones you really wanted to roll on actually whether it's an over curl or under curl there's a lot of red guards out front so team canada an opportunity here to maybe hit and even roll under rolls a little to the outside like initially we're trying to go under the center i think so but it was a great plan b call by brandon halfway down it was it was like our usual thrill did you ever play that intern around the center and curl him almost get behind the corner by playing the camera that's what i'm thinking as well he thought about maybe going wide side around but i think that's a tough shot and i'm not sure you can take enough ice to do that is he playing the draw here luke doesn't look like a lot of ice no though playing it tight to that center [Music] now how far will this one curl over i really didn't think that was going to be enough ice i think because he had that much weight is the only reason he probably got by i think it's almost the same shot i think we gotta be lower than yes [Music] let's draw anywhere in there it's running here a little bit so the force is on now for team canada this looks like probably a good rock with further out for the broom then where rcf was at least i agree i was really concerned about where rcf had their broom so we're trying trying to kind of get behind the corners hey yeah we can yeah like it'll be 14 in a bit here yeah okay fourteen and a quarter here four four team canada has a very good force efficiency at 54 percent so far in this championship that's huge top eight force efficiency when they force the opposition who has hammer only now your past is really try and position this to where you want it really nice good shot what a shot almost around to the side have only half in the forefoot very nice i don't think you could have made almost the canadian side pick up that deuce and got that extra confidence and sort of relaxed a bit i agree and you can just feel just a little bit of more momentum they're talking a bit more they're having some good conversations and putting the rocks in the right place now with the way the ice curls it it look it is a lot more difficult than it looks i mean it looks like it's pretty straightforward but it's not and there's a jam possibility too there is i think if the tolerance on this one is actually to be more on the wide side and he's changed his mind it's probably a good idea wanted to throw control weight luke and that will curl a lot so you have to again feather the one center stone to get by the other two so i think this is a good call adjustment well they're going even further than where the broom was for the canadian side oh this one's way out there right now is it heavy we're not going to get past that red canadian garden will tap it in it's actually a third shot i'm not 100 sure what happened there it wasn't really that heavy it just they went wider they went wider it might have been the way he threw it or let it go what does he do for top eight yeah you're right are we ever guarding let's guard the hole make him play the intern through there yeah then his draw is cut off actually this can come up here hey yeah this draw could actually play as a guard too couldn't touch straight or two tell them like half in the eight okay yeah right i'm gonna get i give him that through the hole he's always gonna have us one of the ways right i don't think he will if we can get this top baby doesn't i was just thinking originally just guard but you know we we could split our guard we can't go i like this topic i like this too they put this top eight they just just get by that yellow stone just outside the rings there on the right hand side and they continue the curl and they bring it to top eight they can actually take away the hole as well and take away his draw path for one so i wouldn't really know what rcf's going to have this is the aggressive call that comes back and costs rcf or they're not making enough shots gotta get past the centerline guard first oh now that's it good shot very good plug up that the hit of shot stone maybe over curls a little bit left and drive the same path which isn't easy it isn't easy and you saw how much canada's finished so he's got about the same ice he had on his last one luke i and again i'm not 100 sure what happened on that last one it's not a it's not a big hole to throw this draw and once it we've seen once it starts curling it's very hard to hold that line so it's almost like once he gets through this hole they if the weights close they have to keep on it because they may have to tick off of canada's stone to get shot well demetrio novel have to be alerted in the house this final shot of the fifth end [Music] [Music] recognition chips off it gets their one that's a good looking line call by dimitri mironov so so well in our afternoon session japan is doubling up netherlands 4-2 to keep you updated all the other games scotland also doubling up the usa 4-2 in italy a slight 3-2 lead but they have the hammer playing against norway the same situation in our feature game canada rcf canada leads 3-2 here in midway through session 17. and here are the statistics after five ends canada one point lead and the percentage is 83 to 71 overall draw percentage seven point advantage 80 to 73 and hit percentage it's been all canada number wise 90 to 67 but it's only a one point game we got the second half coming up for you and it should be a thriller uh yeah oh foreign huh hey sergey glukov makes a great shot there to end that first half of this game bkt tires and okay tire world men's curling championship melissa seligo and myself luke coley melissa that was just that was great line call but great recognition and that kept them in this game absolutely they they couldn't have made it any better and and good on them rcf because gluckoff threw that on the first one exact same ice pretty much the same weight but he must have just done something with its release to just let it run straight it you don't see that very often especially now with the rocks that have been done so great adjustment on a second one and makes no mistake whatsoever and gets that one on the board such a key spot because i believe that canada was lying four four at that time so huge yeah you start thinking i don't make it through that hole then it's a i'm a little heavy there's all kinds of things that can go through your head and there's a cool character that sergey glukov making that draw now ken gets the hammer back and sort of halts canada's momentum a little bit they controlled it and uh scored two in the fourth now they get a force but that's not bad you get that score you don't give a steal to them you don't give them any momentum and now an early miss in the sixth end try and really put the pressure on as we play in the even ends let's start talking about that now scoring with the hammers canada three hammers to rcf's two and canada definitely picked up the play in that previous end they were making more come arounds hit and rolls they they were really looking at the line and they were making the proper changes that they need to make so now rcf going to continue to try and apply pressure they would love to get a steal here early in the second half of the game good option however though of course is to force canada to take a single and get hammer back carrick right around his tournament numbers 88 on the game yep yep yep yep this is his first hit of the game that's a really nice shot by carrick just hangs around biting the top of the rings the battle for that control zone continues yeah i think so i'm good with that we could double peel yeah and then we'd have two corners we'd probably stay for another corner yeah parallel looks like an an intern low yeah three quarters low it's interesting obviously no crowd the other games going on to some noise but teams having no problem communicating end to end like that we're in for a shock when they're back into crowds hopefully next curling season hopefully it'll be nice to see the crowd's back that's for sure it's good we're shocked there's a couple guards dealt in front 90 on the game so far for brad [Applause] a couple guards for mironov to come around yeah i think they were hoping to get a little more action on that so really good opportunity now for rcf to try and get one buried obviously behind two canada stones [Music] yes please yeah it's just that there is enough curl yeah well weight's good just attack clean it's good this shot's not there if that rock is maybe three four feet later so two definite different game plans going about it here playing the draw trying to force canada canada playing the hits with that one open want to keep it high want to bring that back back you certainly can hit it on the nose oh yeah do you like that yep just listen to that comment right you can actually hit this on the nose it's fully buried but you can hit it on the nose and that's because a the guard's too high are pretty high but b it just attributes to the amount of curl weight it's good just a little heavy by darren molding fantastic opportunity here now for rcf they want to put this right on the face of their other yellow stone [Applause] and then i'll take at least two shots for canada to clear that up it's not an awful result but obviously you put one top forefoot good you'll keep that turn [Applause] you're looking for two thirds both teams using their brushes a lot this game thus far i think it just didn't quite get there still the guard still shot stone for rcf story skipper okay get me out of this one buddy oh boy darren knew right out of his hand that that wasn't a good throw a couple good ones couple bad ones not gonna do it you listen to that comment we talked about consistency at the beginning of the show and darren pretty much alluding to it yeah even within the game within the game nevermind slight advantage still here for rcf again if they could put this one right on top of that other yellow stone no thought of needing to hit that red one try and roll away with it just i think the key here is if you if you think about what your end plan is your implant is to force so you wanna you want to actually 55 but he's only [Music] teams have been talking there's no lack of curl to get to these ones especially with a longer guard [Applause] so brendan's looking to throw about half a weight and pretty much get to the face of the yellowstone just thrown by glue cough very unusual numbers for brendan bocher as well yeah and sometimes you see for a skip it's all or nothing you make the shot you get 404 you miss it you get zero right at a point there like yellow was surrounded in the four steps for two yeah that's a boy good scrub that's him he gets sweet brad catching his breath and says rcf take your time don't rush making your call yeah once he got by the red one he still had to panic because he tried to get by the yellow one as well good shot um there's a potential three on the board for team canada so very important placement here just chips and sits down to lie one two i think that's pretty good how does canada score more than one how do they score once this comes to uh stop here you'll see how it just chips off i'm not sure can they hit that red one and move both that's a lot less ice i don't think so really this might be trying just make sure you get rid of one and concede a steal a one but yeah with hack weight i'm not sure that that they both go if you can see one you might as well try and come down the other way and hit that stone [Applause] well facing two with the last of get by right down to it go tap tap and we'll tap it to concede the steel of one one yellow just like that it's a tie game we said these two matched up evenly now the score exactly even 3-3 after six you either have to i think they were trying to get a bye because it wasn't maybe they thought it was a bit heavy or whatever but you've got to make that decision earlier you'd rather be a foot lighter and in front of that stone than what just happens both these teams coming in with that 7-2 record we've alluded to a few times norway who in this session has also got a 7-2 record they just gave up a five to italy and trail eight two halfway through that game italy at four and five he's still [Music] around those staggered stones top of the house that's a good one those red stones don't help team canada at all even though they are their stones just try and change the angles [Applause] i think so i kind of like that even if you hit the one on the right hand side and even split them a little try and move things around again those angles are really in a poor position for canada that's probably the best shot of allah that's the shot i like it because this one could almost get in there for shot over here and be pretty good [Applause] just border that looks like men [Applause] yeah little heavy back line oh back line back line close yep yep yep we're hack oh hacks a lot of weight i think modifications [Music] so rcf looking to hit and roll maybe even push the other redstone out it's pretty flat [Music] one just touch that over and sit shot [Applause] yes you could probably see i would say maybe about half of that stall you might be able to catch the back one luke call here i just can't overthrow this one clean weight's good weight's good real close close real close curl girl i want to get it as close to that guard as possible [Applause] really close good shot it's a good shot good shots good yeah rcf just needs to be a little careful here they don't want to let those red rocks pile up that's that's why when there there's a two stagger there thought about coming around was the first one and then they moved the angles and how different the end would be if they made even if they made that freeze that forefoot would be awfully congested [Applause] [Music] and a big roll here towards the center whoa whoa whoa looks close but they don't quite make the roll i think it's still very right on the available yeah yeah i think this one's even more open than the previous one just needed to roll another two three inches like bumper easy bumper bumper looks like they can hit it right on the nose and get both to go on the other team out there scotland out on the ice taking on usa at six and three scotland leading 6-4 in the 7th end usa with a hammer in that game weight wasn't i don't think it was overthrown i didn't see how he let it go but he's i can see he's frustrated with himself even more important so when saying that i think it's really important that they get rid of at least a redstone if not both we're trying to roll under on that one now we're going after the double [Music] wow [Music] get the force and now you're buying three mine's good hard line okay mine's good hard line it's close the hair lights mine's good a little late my hair lights up gotta go gotta go here i believe [Music] yeah i think he was trying to freeze the one that was about biting back four but that's two huge misses by darren molding very unusual two straight ends he's had so he's had four straight misses that one was ten feet late let's see darren off to the corner there he's just trying to regroup refocus it's always the team dynamic darren normally is talking a lot with brendan just trying to gather himself before and good on him for doing that right he's just he needs to find himself first before he can help brendan [Applause] so not only is the force in the game plan here right now but maybe even a steals in the game plan for the rcf looking to bury this one just top four and those end plans can change obviously now you go from a force to lovely shot [Applause] i always find it interesting they say just stick it right the run back becomes such a hair an automatic for these teams just go play the run back and stick it like it's a throw through like it's so easy good good good good good they were 14-8 but i think the happiest person there with that shot made is darren molding okay i think you're right that is such a good shot by a good call brandon at a boy [Applause] still going to have to make a draw for one here but yeah clark said they threw 14 8. rcf now lukov has to just respond make this one force brennan make his this is what rcs been working for right they they're trying to their force was their original game plan in plan showing look at the lean on that broom great brush so all of a sudden you touch that guard and then two comes two comes into play so a piece of the a single point here in the seventh inn i think team canada will be happy to get out of here with this thing mine's good [Music] [Applause] great shooting skipper everything good on this one wait line right to the button cover the bkt and a single point for the canadian side take the lead back 4-3 with three ends remaining oh [Applause] sacred all right uh the bkt tires and okay tire world men's curling championship 2021 4-3 canada leading rcf here in the windsport arena luke cole here with melissa saleego back and forth back and forth of course important games throwing going on throughout the other scores here in session 17 japan leading netherlands 6-4 playing in the eighth end scotland usa now tied 6-6 playing an eight italy looking strong to knock off norway 8-3 they lead in the seventh of course we are 4-3 as his first stone of end number eight comes in for carrick martin brennan boncher two great shots and what an important one for team canada i think you said it the best luke in the previous end i mean darren is obviously the hardest on himself for sure but he needed a couple of minutes to take care of himself and then he came back and he was all all about helping brendan make those shots and he was he made great line calls support everything we've got a little change in tactic here for team canada they decided to put their first one top four instead of short rcf now with the corner guard the elusive corner guard that we haven't seen very much of and melissa is that possibly we're getting into the late stages you look at even ends this the even end can it either go for a steal or if they blank it it's not the end of the world exactly they would love to if they could have the blank this end they'll force next end have hammer coming home so somewhere between the 8th and 9th they want to try and get the hammer back for the 10th end it's a two easy now maybe two three two three easy so they're hoping rcs will take some chances here try and get their deuce here in the eighth end and that one just over curls i keep over curling that rock it's not snowing we know it isn't a chance to get canada chasing them [Music] this has a lot of weight on it i want to stick the shooter whoa whoa stick around just there was a a little less weight on that he makes a perfect roll behind his corner guard uh easy i like easy yeah it should be a little heavy right this is a big advantage in the second position 93 84 of demetrium weight's good okay [Applause] is [Music] on this freeze i think with the indication and the reason for that is if they were to maybe go top 12 or top eight because that corner guard is fairly high it would give canada an opportunity to hit and roll behind their center they don't want to do that so by going to the back one it makes canada they have to make a decision [Applause] like you said melissa we haven't seen this spot that one comes and curls nicely at the end really nice shot that's absolutely perfect i think just yeah freeze it up he was 14 bro he was 14 yeah 13 nine make it let's go that's a good conversation about the time i believe on the draw towards the center liner towards the button was around 14 eighteen it's pretty close this one was a third this last shot was a thirteen nine and i just it didn't bounce or anything it was perfect so you gotta be pretty good now it's almost gotta go almost a second hard line hard line the corner guard definitely playing the way rcf would like here in this eighth end you want to keep this angle this time they don't want to get to the face brad's rock just maybe over curling a couple of inches really important to stay on the angle they haven't laid a broom to this one luke yeah very happy so precise needing to be in that little bounce [Music] this will curl for you yeah a little mistake there by rcf this gives darren a an opening throw hack weight darren was up just two ends goes down almost 20 percent switch of the sweep good shot sense a little urgency in both sides now at this stage of the game putting everything into every shot as brad makes his way over to carrick's side to help out great shot by darren atleast working so hard [Music] the middle red shouldn't go on the run boy if you hit it in the wrong spot though you jam them both you could jam them both yeah yeah okay i can see a little piece yeah you could throw easy yeah you don't need to you don't have to whip it okay uh how about medium i got like just a sliver so ever any thought about trying to go back trying to force play to the center or is it too late three rocks left with the rcf being shot stone i think you almost have to chase it medium [Applause] rcf has uh decided they want to call a timeout curled quite a bit didn't mind the throw is okay right now [Applause] foreign foreign obviously not knowing exactly what he says as you said very specific very confident in what he wanted the the team to do [Applause] i think most importantly you want to take the play away from that side now they originally thought maybe about freezing to it but i think you want to stay away from there you're in a good spot you're set up but i also think i think you want to bury this the whole way either i think you want to show a piece to team canada above the t line well near enough and club huge huge opportunity for rcf to be sitting too with hammers they had the right ice he just didn't get here in the seventh end fight top four this has got to get us close yeah now the reason canada has decided to come around the guard the center line is because there's two guards and the one closest to them is is their own they could play off on the shot stone but it's not going to give them any advantage they want to now put the pressure on line's good straight straight opposition to [Applause] [Music] but it's a one point game there we go [Applause] very good real good good scrub nice shot well rcf got the miss they tried to take advantage use their timeouts they're not touching if they're touching it might even drag too much sitting top of the forefoot it was a really good shot by brandon now rcf with an opportunity here the double run gotta hit it in a good spot though yellow red right back and misses it okay they hit it where they wanted to i think luke but it looks like they had to hit it just a tiny bit closer to nose closer to nose double for one but his shooter will always be out he can't throw a guard tight enough that he can't chase what happens yeah yep i'm just cute over there this is the shot this is the same room so just come in tight tight enough that a a hit doesn't get second shot if it happens to come up a little late but we did guard it yeah so be it but yeah so just listening to brandon there is that the same ice oh yeah if they ever put this top 12 which is where they want it it looks like a little less to me yeah i like that if they put this top 12 blue cloth can run it and he'll only get one if it happens to come up short the key is they have to be 100 in front of that other red stone they don't want to give rcf an opportunity to throw a lightweight a little tape straight we're top eight i definitely don't want to come in too too fast too much curl go here let's talk about this one just almost make a left hand turn that's okay that doesn't ever you were trying to figure out where what to do with that rock and just overcrowd overcrowding came to a spot you couldn't do anything with it weight was perfect but it just over curled my whole rock width so this being the eighth end a one point canada lead rcf and sergey glucon a chance of a cute one if he ever touches it it's two yeah try and make the hit so he's the one maybe get the second point options here huge huge opportunity for two points for and as you heard you can't even come anywhere near that redstone just thrown by botcher because if you do you'll actually tap them in for a second steal so this looks really good almost to the nose and hangs around just like that two for rcf and they will take their first lead of the game wins remaining they capitalized in that even end five four times [Music] god yep so both teams now have scored one multiple point end a deuce with the hammer five fours where we sit ninth end of play inside the windsport arena part of canada olympic park fourth event of the curling bubble of course two grand slam events and then the world women's curling championship following that in a couple of weeks no surprise seeing centerline guard here in this ninth end team canada would love love to break blank this ninth in and take hammer home in 10 down one and just again just a small missed opportunity for canada they were in complete control and brendan's last rock unfortunately just over curling by about a rock width and left that chance for rcf who made no mistake nice shot by carrick to start this end so blank for canada in this end sometimes what you're looking for is sometimes you see teams draw to the open side but put it in a good spot and to freeze with his second shot so canada looking for the blank preferably and rcf looking for the force would have liked that right on the face but that's pretty good good spot the brushers on both teams luke working super hard today they still have another game tonight a long grind for these these guys actually i've seen on team usa john landsteiner is out this game saying due to just to rest colin huffman comes in at the lead position for team usa after an extra end win for them earlier today that's okay it is it's a huge grind you have to be so fit compete at this level for sure [Music] is get to the face of it if they can and just kind of move things around a little bit that worked out very well the angles are in rcf favor right now you have to go and just rip the front for team canada so peel the front and sergey glue cuff and his international experience he's a a world junior semi-finalist or part of me silver medalist i should say 2013 lost the final but beat candid beat canada and that and matt dunstown to get to the final was the only time has ever beaten the canadian team in international play [Music] [Applause] okay you'll have the nose double back line sometimes play really hard to try and get this blank some can get reduced here we don't mind for team canada right now they do not like how it's lining up the angles again in favor of rcf so they want to just play about a back line try and move those redstones away curl curl curl look at that i wonder if something happened picked it up picked up some debris or something that was very strange yeah when you see them that far off of what they're expecting to do [Music] my [Music] um yeah i missed the weight lower numbers haven't been helped setting things up for their skippers so looks like they've just oh the angles were so good for rcf prior to him throwing that rock that one's good too okay i think we have to it's looking like an out turn with about good easy okay well it's been a while since daryn's been able to come up with a shot i think now should that was a good time he's going to make one he was up in the 80s just two ends ago clean close please yes yep whoa whoa girl yellow good shot great very good great stuff that is a great shot that's real good again rcf had had such good angles i'm not sure what yeah their call was but looking good here right now great brushing there by brad caught that yellow stone before it hit it's red that was absolutely a peach [Applause] so no option here now for rcf they definitely have to run this in try and make the double would be the best option obviously trying to get this to curl now for club and we'll get both yes [Music] it i think we're still chasing a bit yeah okay let's make this 14. yeah yeah so they looked at the potential triple and i think it is there on the three rcf stones but it doesn't really give them anything line's good anything to help them get a deuce so right now they've changed gears here they're gonna try and bury terrible shot this second half has been a struggle a mighty struggle for daryn moulding was able to score foreign to the open side of the forefoot not in behind that those four stones on the right the best way to do this is to draw away from the pile and and pretty much leave it open and canada's going to have to make a decision what they're going to do right now canada has a couple ways in they have the top that darren goes through they have their rolls oh boy i don't know yeah yeah the other thing is just throw low weight and try that yeah or that you do it on the top one too roll behind the red no i like the plate better than that that just sounds almost just open it up make sure that i turn and chip the rocks just through if you could play it off the back just kind of the side of that one top yeah you could just roll the top one spot but you could roll the top one all the way to just roll over there yeah it's too it's such an easy i think this is the shot if we but we got to get it under our reds yeah yellow yeah peel yeah so they're trying to make a lot happen here with this one shot peel weight make the double and roll far behind their redstones not the yellow stones that are there any role they can try and roll it in he's worried about putting them behind those two yellow stones though because that's almost an automatic but he did get it about halfway that under a long way that's why good scrub pl weights pretty good good shot both skips have made some great shots to bail their teams out of ends yellows line have had a look at that but they must have had a look at it [Music] and they avoid what a great shot by the rcf skip itself holding that one and they avoid the jams so it's gonna force brendon bocher draw the forefoot for one yeah fourteen and a quarter here's the front end giving brennan the information that he needs to make this shot the best he can mine's a bit tight line's tight weights good line's good mine's tight okay okay gonna be constant communication on this shoulder need the forefoot all right you gotta go for line okay gotta go you gotta go you gotta go you gotta go weight as well really leaning this martin how far can they go as it's gonna over curl not just to steal one steal two and canada was good back to back two's given up now trail by three heading to the tenth end okay okay well it's the second steal of the game this time it's a steal two in that ninth end and a big three-point edge for rcf sergey lukov looking for his second win against a canadian team at a world event this would be his first at a world championship this is a fourth trip to a worlds and it's a be win number one if you can hold on obviously not worried about his first win there he's trying to make the playoffs and rcf get in to the top six try and get a chance at the playoffs and then you have a chance in the in the second tournament to become world champion i just want to step back for a second luke to that shot of brandon's it was interesting when he let it go carrick was pretty sure the weight was close and i think it was close it just maybe it was a little softer release but it just took the curl so early that the brushers couldn't hold it and they tried really hard just to get it there but unfortunately it is a big steal of two for rcf we mentioned earlier about they mentioned about the stones that they did touch them up but it's not the first time in this type of an event that for brendan botcher and his team they just haven't adjusted as well as our cf they did the same thing at the canadian championship and they touched them up and then they went on their run to win the canadian championship just haven't had that feel that's such a good point and as you said earlier they all knew everyone knew that the rocks were being done and count just hasn't been sharp and for some reason darren just really struggling this the last half of this game seeing some shots that we just don't see him ever miss he had a lot of art to do with overcrowd just he's overthrown he's had a bunch of hits and we're seeing two throw-throughs here for rcf with a three-point lead a little different than some but there's been some times where they've had leads and they've left too many stones around and it's cost them so i think that's part of their they're thinking let's keep it as clean as can be i saw them do this in a previous game as well so i think they've obviously learned a lesson somewhere down the line as you [Music] [Applause] say so the two corner guards are up for team canada talk to eight top twelve okay max line right now mine will be okay i think it's gonna curl line's fine got a curl just got to curl guys gotta curl up gotta go yeah gotta go it's good it's gotta go okay it's good now good now that's good line's real good great shot there by brad very good brad oh rcf with a win they can jump to the top of the leaderboard along with sweden with the win winner of this game will be right with them norway has already lost in this session actually leaves two corners on the one side that's a mistake for rcf same weight eh yeah top eight another big shot here for brad same weight and the other seven and two team coming into the session now trailing by two points playing the tenth end that being scotland they gave up three to the usa in the ninth end of that game so usa comes in at six and three i didn't think i was late chance that could have three of the two lost teams losing in this session that one coming up short for canada trying to get around [Applause] sounds like they're gonna hit the open one based on that conversation but the open one's not the issue right now to be honest it's those three guards i think i would be peeling obviously this is a different scenario than you would expect because you expect canada to go over behind and then what do you do then you peel the top and go after it later so the guards are in play for canada to use [Music] mine's good it's close weights close line easy early tea light easy okay mine's close toppings toppings it's always cars okay you gotta go you gotta push it's hard target in behind now those guards still in play needs a three to tie this game up volcano foreign obviously trying to get a couple with this i think so but they they did look at the double run as well but with that you keep your shooter in place you got to be very careful if you're playing them oh and will they clip it they don't catch the one in the back so still a couple of guards in play okay it is rcf flying one freeze the yellow he's got like a quarter yeah i think it's a freeze yeah on the beak because if he chases and we freeze again like that same i think that's why it was really important for rcf to appear on the previous one so they didn't have to try and run three rocks so opportunity is here for canada right now trying to freeze to this yellow stone [Music] good shot good stuff that is a good shot well darren's had those struggles but what a time to come up with two shots great pair by darren molding good shot very good rcf and that sometimes comes down these teams that don't play quite as many games on the tour as others don't have that game experience has already used their timeout this game just 115 on their time clock as well not a lot time to discuss for their last [Applause] shot this is what canada probably wants them chasing after those stones in the center never thought that you'd be [Music] is now we gotta [Music] good easy almost medium we have to kick that pass there yeah and we gotta save our shooter i think i think i can throw medium and almost stick okay yeah i agree oh we got to hit it now yeah probably he's guarding it otherwise yeah good easy yep i think we want to probably keep it in that i think we can stick with medium we got a hair of the guard yep i'm with you so the worry is if they've tried to play a freeze or line up an angle they may not get access to this one that's right rcf would have no option but to guard and canada would have a heck of a time trying to get anything at all so just medium so here brendan's saying just medium hair down yep [Music] didn't roll as far as i wanted it to it might go into this side really thick wow that's stuck no problem yeah oh shoot they didn't get the separation that they wanted to can you make the double make those two yellows go away and that one pick up the victory well and he won't he'll glance off and how far does he go [Applause] he leaves canada lying shot but second and fourth it's there luke it's you can hear just if you just hit it low side just barely low side you could double off those yellows and stick your red for the tie not an easy one but there's a shot available there is a shot available the brandon botcher opportunity they've gave up the steal of two in the previous end has a shot to try and tie this game up in the tenth end with a score of three yeah yeah yeah whoa whoa pull girl girl girl [Applause] that deserves an extra end no to that one get the great shot a good shot from sergey glucos he couldn't make the double and it come back to cost them look at this and sticks it for three we're on life support but that one bounces them right back into this yeah i think even this recognition from the opponent great shot well an extra end up coming the bkt tires and okay tire world men's curling championship 20-21 what a fun 10th end that was here look holy with melissa seligo and so good we'll play one more and all the other games going on here session 17 japan leading netherlands 7-5 or beat them pardon me it's now a final japan winning scotland usa is a battle 9-7 usa leading 10-3 italy beats norway of course we're in the extra center guard's important and for an rcf team looking to make the playoffs maybe obviously glukov had the double he makes a double not in this situation right now but they left a couple guards in play canada took advantage made some great shots and the execution wasn't if the execution's still there we don't talk about not peeling it back that's right but we do have to talk about it because it's you know for everyone watching teams coming up when you're up three points the only thing that can hurt you are the guards that one that was hitting top 12 yes it was in the rings but it wasn't going to affect the outcome of the game at that point you have to get rid of the guards that was the only way that canada would have been able to score three points so great job by team canada really dug deep and now trying to figure out a way to steal here in the 11th end [Music] so just trying to find a way to reposition this guard make the tick shot a little trickier force them into a different spot that you may get a or a chance later that's why canada's just calling it just off center maybe a hair higher than they wanted or lower story one to stop a little bit closer to the high set of logos [Music] trying to chip that one over this one they'll roll into the ring so very nice two tick shots made anton kalau he has made those a lot throughout the week and not just late in games i like that obviously extra end now that those are made and need a mistake from your opponent a lot of teams you would see typically just putting up another center guard right now but then it's easy for rcf to step up and peel so by coming around the guards early it just tries to change what rcf's going to do on their next shot so i would think that they're there i think that they're going to try and peel these stones i'm not sure if you could see any of the ones you can so the one that went in on the second tick shot that went in the ring how big was that for rcs huge huge is when it comes down to the time at the end of the end if they have to hit they don't have to stick their shooter because it is shot rock right now but this corner guard don't normally see in the rings this early in an end especially an extra end i really like how brendan's playing this if you think about think this through brad freeze is right on top rcf will likely last a little time everything's gone there's still a red star in the house and then they can throw their center delay delay center just gotta go for line [Music] good weight yeah greatly it's been sort of the story for this canadian team in the game yeah that was a huge over curl really wanted to be on the face of it even if even if you tap it a bit or just come up in front of it it makes it that much harder to get rid of straightforward heel here the one almost look like he was playing it that [Applause] then we can go around yeah it's definitely a game plan in brendan's mind here putting another one on top the line's good it's close see maybe if yeah i'm playing that if rcf comes after it might spin one to the center that you can guard max okay i would think so it's got to be curl it's got to be curled you heard them say the angle if they just if they can't see enough of it merciful have as guards as well but it looks like you can see a piece we just had to go a little more we had the angle i'm sure [Music] my instinct thought was put a centerline guard up now or even yeah or just off center right now rcf just has to hit eight foot to win this game or less mine's good we're a little bit hard little late mine's good guys head down go go hard i think there's a triple there is there will it clip that one put it in the worst spot you think it captures the catches the back one i think it does it doesn't have to go as far because it's in the 12 foot again it's just a matter of removing some red stones to make your draw mentally a little bit easier you just have to get it and they do all fly oh [Music] he makes the double it's over but what a great comeback shot he missed his first one and makes no mistake on his second either we go around here and then what because he's well i might like i see what you're saying here i'm okay with around the guard we we need an open miss at this point so i like this what if we lock a freeze on it just the perfect then we're go then he's blasting he rips we draw here he draws that's not bad either if he rips like if we make it perfect well if we go around perfect it might not go out you might get it into a good spot that's probably the right call okay sure sure okay right around there yeah yeah i don't know i'm fine with this i'm fine yeah you never know what if you can make it good not knowing your opponent as well as you do maybe some other teams used to playing that little too hard they want to draw or they want to hit no i don't know if he has the feel of what wouldn't it if it was a open hitter or draw would you rather have sergey glukov throwing should be here it sounds like team canada's made that decision they want him to draw i'm not sure when his last straw maybe was but mine's good again we go back to canada want to put this one right on the nose that's pretty good that is good i think you can get it to go but you never know pretty good maybe an inch in between pretty good nice shot so if rcf rips this one out both go shooter go walk it down there he would draw to the side and then rcf making would have to make a draw likely trying to make this one go away and it will slide over to the side and it won't so now canada's decision is that one stays in time has called their time out there just under a minute should be still plenty of time with the timeout one doesn't go out they can't swim because it's in front of the t-line pretty wide there and this hole is small yeah yeah yeah yeah i like that go as far as you can he hasn't tried it he can't hit it right as far as you can that you can hit just bite the eight foot yeah you could get a quarter of the rock in the eighth if anything yeah yeah yeah i think dead sound dead center little guys dead center because that makes both sides tough yep i like that yeah okay let's go buddy gotta get us close yeah they got their chance they they got the little miss they did and that's what brendan had said earlier that same way and i think looking back on this game if you had brendan's right you do want him to throw a draw because draws have been difficult on this ice as we've seen the goal here for canada well you have to go to even a bit wider because you actually have to come around that guard we've seen so many overcrowders great smart calls straight all the way straight all the way got to go you got to go hard points that's okay good just there you just said it melissa the overcrowd digging in question foot of that rock yeah i thought i was a huge talk to you there there all they can do is sit back and watch lukov and a chance need to get the eight foot or better you can see where the broom is it's probably more broom than he would normally take for the draw to the button because he has to navigate that rock that was just put there by brendan that's why brendan wanted it deeper so it would be this draw would be even more difficult to me so the last stone here of an extra amp seven seven tie seven and two he's yelling mine is really good but it is the weight there you scrub club it's late and clean off trying to get this one into the eight foot do they have enough in them get it far enough and it's going to be awfully close i think just they didn't sit there canada hasn't looked it's nice [Laughter] it might be worth to throw a stick on that is awfully close but no it is just far enough obviously with the eye daryn sees it but a huge critical win for rcf eight seven maybe canada give canada a third loss and now canada will take on the two-time reigning world champions tonight with three losses and rcf has the night off plays norway tomorrow thank you 1466 well a wild session 17 has wrapped up japan beating netherlands 7-5 it's a big win for japan they're now 4-6 well usa takes an extra end to beat scotland 10-9 two wins on the day two extra end wins for team usa italy 10-3 over norway keeps their hopes alive well rcf knocks off canada in our feature game in an extra end so through 17 sessions we get a log jam we have two teams atop rcf and sweden at eight and two then there's four teams at seven and three canada norway scotland and the united states switzerland at five and four right now would be on the outside looking in well italy's five and four they're not out of this yet japan at four and six might be just too many they gotta run the table then denmark and germany and korea two and seven china netherlands two and eight we got a lot of fun the next few round robin sessions for melissa seligo myself luke coley thanks for tuning in to the bkt tires and ok tire world men's curling championship you
