Can you Defeat THERMALS with an Emergency Space Blanket?

can you hide from thermal devices using emergency blankets [Music] what's up guys welcome to the lovely hills of somewhere in germany there has been a theory being kicked around for a long time about survival blankets or thermal blankets and being able to hide from thermal sites so we got a pretty badass leopold thermal site i've already tested it so we're gonna test that theory out i have two blankets the first one is just your basic uh emergency heater blanket we'll try that one and then next we'll try my little upgraded one with like the shiny stuff on it so we're gonna see if it works all right so as you see dave is sitting there chilling we'll go through the different colors that's your predator view okay so he's suiting up the silver one reflects heat the theory is that you put that around you silver side and you're reflecting your heat inward and it's possible thermals won't pick you up it works all right take it off how about this yep okay it works so there's dave uncovered go ahead cover up gone i see i think your right forearm and your right foot but other than that he's gone all right let me cycle through there yeah there's some heat sticking out on your right side yeah probably just seeping out yeah there you go is that enough yep so yeah so this is the most sensitive screen i've seen this uh ultra white hot and he's gone red hot gone back to green so far the theory passed that's pretty cool that was just a cheap one euro two dollar survival blanket and it totally covered up his uh silhouette all right so i have my tarp set up over my hammock there's dave going behind it of course his feet are sticking out but we he has disappeared okay put your hands up against it all right so that's where his hands are up against it and we can see him again otherwise he's hidden just by a simple tarp the conclusion so far is anything covering masking your heat will hide you from a basic thermal device as long as your body's not directly touching it so if you're on the run and you need to hide from thermals basically any kind of coverage will work until your body heat heats it up but i think with the thermal blankets if they as long as they don't heat up on the outside where your body's touching them you'll be good to go we'll conduct this experiment again with one of my hardcore blankets and i'll actually lay under it for a while we'll see how that works you
