I 3D printed all the free shoe files that I could find online to find out whether you can 3D print an entire closet of wearable shoes for free did I just discovered the infinite shoe glitch what's up everybody I'm Seth Fowler and recently I've kind of developed an obsession with 3D printing shoes and I think it all started when I decided to design and 3D print my own custom pair of shoes that I had to wear for a week and even to a Sneaker Convention which honestly was a blast and a great learning experience but while I work on version 2 of my own 3D printable shoe I decided to find out what else is available on the market for free it really got me thinking if you don't have access to 3D design software which sometimes can be very expensive can use still 3D print shoes for free I mean obviously you still need a 3D printer but the good news is 3D printers are getting so cheap you can actually buy decent ones for like 150 bucks so I really wanted to discover what free shoe files are available on the internet right now that you could 3D print and wear today well maybe not today because it takes hours and hours and hours to print shoes but you get my point so I decided to scour the internet see what free shoe files were available print them all out and try them out for you guys so I guess at this point let's just get to it okay so let's start things off by looking for some free CAD shoe files that we can print and I'm gonna start looking for these files with the the Opera browser I love the Opera browser for a lot of reasons but the main reason that I love them is because of their privacy features they have a free VPN ad blocker and tracker blocker so you don't have to download any extensions and it makes browsing the internet so much safer you ever wonder why sometimes ads pop up for things that you were looking for like a week ago trackers that's why and the Opera browser stops all that creepiness in its tracks and not only is Opera safer than other browsers but it also has some other features that no other browsers have you can chat with your Sneakerhead friends in the sidebar you can watch videos I definitely recommend watching videos from this one guys name is Seth he's on YouTube he's awesome but you can watch them in pop out windows while you're working and you can easily organize your tabs and workspaces but the feature that I'm going to use today is pin board like I said I'm searching for as many free 3D CAD files of shoes as I can find and I'm going to make sure to pin them all on my pin board and actually if you guys want to check out my pin board I've made sure to leave a link to Opera and my pin board in the top of the description below and if you feel like switching from your old browser is hard because of all your tabs and bookmarks don't sweat it Opera has you covered because of their sync feature which is super easy to use so make sure to check out Opera by clicking that link in the top of the description below and also don't forget to check out my pin board because you can check out all the 3D files that we grabbed in today's video alright so let's just Dive Right into this and the first place that I'm gonna go is this place called MakerBot thingiverse MakerBot is a 3D printer company they have this website called thingiverse which is essentially a website full of 3D printable files and they have everything I mean literally like look at this page well they've got some stuff up there I'm not going to talk about because I feel like that'll get me kicked off YouTube but you've got you've got a geodesic dome cat house you've got a dragon if you can search anything and it'll pop up and think of us and you can print it some things you have to pay for some things you don't but I'm just gonna search for shoes or I guess shoe to see what pops up we've got well a lot of stuff that isn't a shoe we've got like a shoe rack we've got a couple shoe racks actually we've got a wedge sandal which is not exactly what we're looking for we've got some laces it seems like there's some sort of lacing system which I guess is cool but again not something that I need oh here we go here's something the gyroid shoe concept actual design look at this by Dave make stuff shout out to Dave make stuff this is a shoe that's got this crazy look I believe it's free it says download all files okay cool then you've got a YouTube video check out this YouTube video oh that's really cool awesome shout out to Dave make stuff we're definitely gonna download this it looks like it's free uh four makes which means four people have made it this conceptual shoe design demonstrates how end topology can be used to incorporate complex Trip Lee period minimal Services I have no idea what he's talking about you know what because we're downloading this and putting it in a video let me tip the designer really quickly I mean it's a cool looking shoe I feel like it's going to be a challenge to print so I'm probably going to print it on my prusa printer because I I feel more confident in that being able to print more like complex designs so I'm going to try it on there the problem is is that the build plate is not that big I really don't know how this is gonna do fit wise because it looks like there isn't a huge amount of ankle opening there so I'm a little concerned about that but I'll print it as large as I can and we'll just see what happens okay so we found another sneaker it's called the requiest sneaker it's by Aiden canavan189 from January 12 2015. it looks like this thing has been made no times all credit to request the design was intended for the Fila Flex filament to be used I'm sure ninjaflex will work as well okay so this is actually made by filaflex this design I believe um or maybe it's made by Aiden I'm not sure but it's cool looking shoe there's only one image I'm assuming this is the back of the shoe also you've got lace eyelets all the way around the back so that's gonna be an interesting shoe to try it looks pretty easy to print though so I am going to download it check it out it is also free so that's good I am going to tip the designer though but unfortunately they have not set up their account to receive them yet okay well notify and let them know oh and of course let's pin this file to the pin board there we go okay so I've been doing a lot of searching there isn't a huge amount of shoes it looks like there's another set of shoes from the same designer that we looked at first Dave makes stuff he's got a couple different versions of his original shoe I'm not going to download those because I feel like that's just reprinting something we've already printed so I'm going to leave that for now but just know you have the option if you want other designs for that shoe not too much else unfortunately I'm not seeing really that much at all okay so I did find this sandal called the rubber Beach sandal UK size 4 which is obviously way too small but I am going to pin it and save it to my pin board and then probably also print it at least one of them I might print one in like the standard UK size 4 size and then try and scale it up to print it in my size but it is free so I'm gonna download it and of course I'm gonna tip the designer as well in the description it says my Philippe Stark inspired sandal was only going to be viable if printed in a flexible filament I chose ninjaflex which is what we're going to use as well ninja Flex can be tricky to print flexible filaments often get jammed in the extruder mechanism but printing slow and hot seems to work pretty well awesome but yeah I'm excited if this is actually a good pair of shoes I might actually print out two one for my right foot one for my left foot and then actually rock it in the beach we'll see what happens but Summer's over so maybe it'll have to be a next year thing but we found one more pair of sneakers and that is the requiest twos it looks like these are made by the same people who made that first pair no not the first pair the second pair of shoes that we looked at by that filament company Fila Flex is the name of the filament company I believe and it's got filoflex logos all over it so this shoe is kind of cool it's got this interesting high top design which I've never seen before in a 3D printable shoe it's free which is important which is what we want and it looks like they use filament for the laces which is kind of cool so it looks like there's three different parts you've got the tongue you've got the body of the shoe or I guess the main shoe and then you've also got the filament laces but cool looking sneaker it's not something I'd wear if it wasn't 3D printed but uh I mean it's cool that they did it and it's by requisite so shout out to recreas March 31st 2014. this is the last shoe that I saw on thingiverse unfortunately so we are going to download this it looks looks like there's five makes three remixes and uh there's three different files so let's download it let's tip the designer as well show them some love ah they don't have tips set up let's notify them great Okay cool so we've that we're gonna try and print before filming this video I did actually search some other websites to see if there's any other free 3D printable files and I did find some stuff but it was all like 3D scans of shoes that already exist like Yeezys and stuff like that and I wanted to print something that wasn't copyright infringement so I'm gonna print these These are the main four free 3D files that I found and uh we'll see how they work after we're done printing so it's probably gonna be about a week but uh in about a week we'll try them all on and see what happens thank you [Music] okay almost done got eight hours left able to print it flat which is great I obviously had to change colors about a quarter of the way through but it actually looks pretty cool I'm actually kind of stoked from where the double color looks [Music] so yes I bought another printer and it's another creality but I think it's gonna be better and it's got a much bigger print bed and this one shouldn't be defective like the last one so we should be okay so apparently I had a fan error with 30 hours left to go this is actually the farthest I've made it I've had two errors uh I had a fan air this morning which actually ended up working out so I've actually had three errors this time around we've made it pretty far I think we've made it like 12 hours and uh we've had a fan air so hopefully this works out because we made it so far I might have to do it in regular like non Flex material if it doesn't work out but hopefully it does it's heating up and we'll see what happens these slides though looking good work it out surprised by that I actually did a little rubber boat that was very hairy so I need to figure out some settings on that but apparently the slides are doing okay so that's good so it's coming along great like 30 hours later actually probably more than that 40 hours later 45 hours later we're almost done it should be done around 1am this morning and uh hopefully it's not too difficult to pull off the uh the build plate we'll see so the glow-in-the-dark slide is coming along well very very soft the ninja Flex is super flexible it is very stringy though and I'm sure that's because of a setting but uh I could probably just cut that stringiness off it's not a huge deal it is taking a while to print though it says it's been going 28 hours and we're only 67 of the way through so we'll see what happens but it looks like it's getting close nice so they're both completely done this is amazing and they both come out well these guys a little bit stringy but we can cut that off not a huge deal the uh gyroid guy took 46 hours and 56 minutes um again I'm not 100 sure if it's gonna fit so uh it could be all wasted hopefully it fits and then the sandal it took 34 hours and 17 minutes which is actually kind of surprising because the amount of effort that went into this well effort seems to be a lot less than what went into this however because the materials and because of the printer this guy had to print at a much slower speed so that's probably why it took you know 34 hours so uh yeah let's pull it off and see how it fits Okay so we've got all five pairs of shoes right here we've got the sandals and this really nice ninja Flex we've got the smaller sandals in not so nice flexible material it's actually barely flexible we've got the gyroid sneaker I think it's called that uh I I really don't think this is gonna fit the more that I look at it and then we've got the two record issues the requiest high top which I actually had to print um well it's all one print it's all one piece but I had to change the material Midway through so it kind of gave it this cool kind of midsole look which I actually really dig now that I have it and then also this weird thing this other Recreation shoe which I don't know what they were thinking but it is what it is it was free so it's fine why don't we start things off with the uh let's go with this one let's go with the weirdest looking one first so this shoe has laces in the back you've got laces in the front and then you've got this weird ankle thing now I haven't tried this on yet so I don't know if I tied the laces too tight but let's just go for it okay so there's a little bit tight but not too bad actually that's not terrible there's no padding in the shoe whatsoever but that's okay this kind of digs into my ankles though like right there really digs into my ankles and the laces are a little bit tight but I can always loosen them not a huge deal the back laces are weird don't like that but this is really the pain point right here this really sharp edge is just digging into my ankles and it sucks I think it's a fine shoe nothing wrong with it it's ugly I think it's fine but my dog is eating a leaf give me one second stop that filming buddy I think it's really ugly from the front to be honest and from the back but from the side it's not too bad so I don't know weird shoe not very comfortable it's as requiest in the bottom so there you go that's the first one the second request shoe is this guy right here this is the one that I think I'm gonna like the most because the midsole is really thick and I printed it with this really low infill so it's kind of soft it's got two parts it's got the tongue and then the shoe itself and then I guess three parts if you count the laces but yeah there we go okay it kind of barely fits there we go now it's actually not bad fits pretty well surprisingly better than I would have thought oh you see how the back of the shoe kind of collapses on itself the midsole is is pretty thick but there's nothing in there so it just kind of falls back when you step backwards I will say though that it is surprisingly springy like I actually really like the way that it feels it's not too bad it's weird I really like it even though there's a lot of like stuff on the side next to my ankle it's really not bad the tongue is fine uh the tongue kind of has this little clip that Clips itself into the the main shoe which pops out all the time but other than that I mean the laces are holding the tongue in place my dog seems to like it and it feels good on foot like genuinely it's a comfortable shoe so but yeah so far number one in terms of comfort style I don't know if it's number one but it's definitely not bad let's move on to the next one let's do the gyroid shoe so this one I printed on the proof set it took a couple times to print it correctly the first couple times it failed and then I added some support material underneath it and it was fine but it's it's definitely a wild looking shoe and I've also got to say that the material that I use the flexible material that comes with the prusa printer that I bought with the prusa printer is not as flexible as ninjaflex because the wall thicknesses are so thick and because there isn't really anywhere for there to be infill this shoe feels pretty stiff in fact the midsole is way thinner than it looks it's actually like this so let me try and get this the ankle opening is just not not very big and it's not stretchy at all so I don't think this is gonna work but let's try it there's no way this is getting on flip there's absolutely no way I'm gonna have to crunch down the back of the shoe that's crazy because the actual size of the shoe itself should fit it's that ankle opening okay let me just try like this this is really painful um no padding whatsoever and also it hurts it's hurting my foot a lot so this is a no-go it's definitely the wildest looking shoe it's probably the most I guess visually appealing out of all the shoes because it looks so crazy and it's really only able to be done because of 3D printing so I think that's cool but Comfort wise zero and uh actual fit zero because it doesn't and then the final two shoes we've got the sandals we've got the size four and then we've got the size nine which uh actually because it's made of ninjaflex is super super soft like crazy crazy stuff is he in the shot I'm not if I zoom in this shoe I think is going to be the shoe that's going to be the most comfortable and there's a couple reasons for that one because I think it'll fit the best because it's a sandal and two because the ninja Flex is just so incredibly soft and there's not a lot of infill so it's got this insane Flex to it I mean it feels like I'm I'm pressing uh honestly like a memory foam pillow or a memory foam uh mattress is genuinely what this feels like so let's try this on really quick that's really nice I actually don't mind the design of this shoe either I'm not usually a huge what do you call this like thong sandal guy but um I mean genuinely it's very comfortable there's not a lot of um midsole there so and it's also like making air noises like I feel like there's a hole somewhere it's letting air out but really comfortable it took took a couple days to print I think it took like two and a half days to print but it's nice I really like it it feels awesome on foot I wonder how well it would hold up to where like if I actually decided to wear this shoe for like a week how well it would last because I wore the other shoe that I actually designed for a week and it lasted but this is a different material on a different printer and it's a different shoe so I don't know it's also got no tread either so you probably slide around a lot but well cool I think we have some winners so let's go back to the studio and uh check them out a little bit closer up okay so here's our last two weeks of 3D printing this took a lot longer than I expected pretty much each shoe except for the the tiny little blue sandal took 30 to 50 hours to print and they were all printed flat on the print bed with not that much support material and I think it just goes to show that 3D printing a pair of shoes is definitely nowhere near as simple as just walking into a store and buying a pair of shoes it might be cheaper because you only have to pay for the filament and you know whatever time you need to actually set up the 3D printer and set up all the settings for it and stuff like that but really realistically it's it's a much more difficult and time intensive process than just buying a pair of shoes but I will say by printing all these shoes I think we did prove that you can 3D print your own pairs of shoes that are wearable for free I mean as free as filament is which is kind of crazy now obviously not all of the shoes that we printed were winners like this guy right here the requiest whatever it was uh this shoe is very very ugly it's incredibly uncomfortable but hey it does actually fit you can wear this it just won't feel that great on foot because there's literally nothing between your foot and the ground other than a very thin piece of plastic however I will say that this shoe was more successful than the gyroid shoe because I could wear it but I've got to say aesthetically the gyroid shoe is awesome I love the way it looks it's not the prettiest shoe in the world but the surface texture used on the upper and even the midsole is so crazy and like I said earlier it's something that can only be done with 3D printing I just wish that this shoe had a wider opening or maybe I was able to print it larger I could have printed it on the new printer but the problem was it would have taken you know a week and a half because I think I did actually run it through the slicer that's how long it was going to take because it's so complex so I just felt like that wasn't worth it but uh overall crazy looking pair of shoes whoever designed this shout outs to you because you did a really nice job but unfortunately it's not a wearable shoe so it kind of fails the entire test the second Recreation shoe the record is two is genuinely uh all right looking actually wearable shoe which I was very impressed by because there was barely any infill in the midsole of the shoe it did feel pretty comfortable on foot and the sides of the shoe didn't rub against my ankle like the first Recreation shoe so overall a successful shoe I don't know how long it would last because the outsole doesn't have any traction I mean you can already see that it's gotten popped and it's got some bubbling going on in the heel and it's got some plastic stuck to it so it's not a shoe that I think would last very long however it is wearable it looks alright and it's comfortable which she can't say for most of the shoes on this list and then finally the shoe that did genuinely Blow Me Away the shoe that I already kind of talked about was a sandal printed in ninja Flex yes it was very hairy but again it's so comfortable it's so soft and I would say if you are going to print this shoe print it in ninja Flex with a low infill because it's so much softer than these standard Flex printed material which also gets hairy my wife did try it on she said it was not very comfortable because although this is flexible it feels very stiff the ninja Flex like I said feels like memory foam it's incredible I couldn't even believe it and I definitely will be printing the left shoe in this pair because I would love to have this as just like a house so if I had to recommend one of these shoes out of all the shoes that we printed it would be this one because this one genuinely did everything right it's comfortable It's relatively good looking and it printed quickly I mean faster than any of the other shoes in today's video so it does prove that yes you can 3D print free shoes from the internet you do have to size them up a little bit in your slicer in your 3D program or whatever you want to do but hey it's doable you can 3D print an entire closet of at least slides but that pretty much wraps up the entire video for today if you have any recommendations for other free 3D printable shoes online make sure to let me know in the comment section down below and as always thank you for watching and I'll see you all in the next one
