Can the Chiefs be Stopped? | Super Bowl Reactions

hello and welcome to the boys upstairs show this is our Super Bowl reaction [Music] show I mean I was telling Tommy earlier how I I'm just disappointed I really am I didn't really inro that very well but I I'm also disappointed I think that everybody's reaction on this show at least is if he has the ball late in the game and it's a one- score game or one possession game a game within taking he's going to take it like unfortunately that's just the reality situation that Eerie feeling in your gut that you had when Tom Brady had the ball at the end of the game that's the same feeling you have when Mahomes has the ball at the end of the game it doesn't matter if his wide receiver won is some dude who was at SMU last year who you've never heard of until this year like it doesn't matter what the score is or what how many 13 seconds are on the clock he's going to do it and unfortunately that's reality we live in oh yeah all they gotta do is give him a chance yeah like they lost to the Raiders on Christmas Day and everybody wrote them off and my no no okay I'm not saying wrote them off completely but I'm saying in terms of like who are the best teams in the NFL it was the 49ers and the Ravens and everybody on this show said that as well and I think that at that point that wasn't a A overreaction or anything but I think that the Chiefs have to have our respect going forward no matter if they start the season next year own four whatever the case is they are going to figure it out because they have Patrick Mahomes and Annie Reid like that's just reality situation I think that that's what we the lesson that we have to learn from this no that's the annoying part it it feels unfair it does it feels unfair but it felt unfair when Tom Brady's wide receivers were like Julian hman Chris Hogan you know what I mean but no one wrote off the Chiefs okay there was times where people were like these aren't the Chiefs that we've seen like these this is what they're used like this is what we're used to seeing like they look like they have flaws now but the minute that that clock started in the wild card game against Miami it was business as usual for the Chiefs they were gonna go in they were gonna dominate after they won that like as long as you give them a and it was the same theme throughout the playoffs and everything if you give them a chance they're gonna they're gonna make you count and they're gonna hurt you if he's the six seed next year and they go nine and seven and they have to go on the road and play like the Jaguars does anybody think that the Jaguars are going to win even if it's at home like no like it doesn't matter there's not going to be just another good quarterback who comes in and dethrones him we're seeing that kind of Tom Brady era where he's gonna keep winning and it doesn't look like it's gonna end until he wants it to end and so just to say that it's that easy for some a quarterback to go out there and be better just get a better quarterback no it's like you've got to adapt and I think that's what a lot of people are looking for right now is we just need to find the next Patrick Mahomes we need to find the next Patrick Mahomes no you got to beat him you got to beat him let's cook up a game plan where we keep the other that guy off the field as much as possible because that's the only way those that that is how the Giants and the uh the the the Eagles and the teams that were able to beat Tom Brady on a on a semi- relative consistent basis were able to keep him off the field and in controlling the game you're able to make it so it's not a onep possession game at the end and you're relying on your defense to stop Tom Brady on a 75 yard Drive which you know they're not going to do the the 49ers really lost this game is what disappointed me like they had so they were winning the whole time it comfortably felt like they were the better team they outplayed them for three and a half quarters you know that muff so much unfortunate happened the muffed punt was a blocked extra point uh Christian mcaffrey fumbled like I know Peko fumbled too but like when does Christian mcaffry ever fumble like of course it was in the Super Bowl the the the the miss the miss I don't know if anyone saw but on the the play the last 49ers offensive play auk made the guy fall but like because he got rushed by Chris Jones he had to throw it like out in the flat or to the corner but auk was wide open in the middle of the end zone uh but he didn't get the chance to even look that way because Chris Jones uh was you know in his yeah they couldn't pick up a blitz all game all game exactly it was insane it was like every third down the for Blitz in like six and it looked like they just like he looked like a deer in headlight so he had no idea what was coming yeah you know it just so much unfortunate had to happen I mean the Chiefs got like a couple fourth down conversions that you know it's throughout the game that could have swayed the game um they had like momes through a pick uh they fought butcho gave them the ball right back like they had so many opportunities and they just lost it so that just really made me upset because they had every chance to win it the 49ers have the best running back in the NFL they have one of the better if not the best offensive line in the NFL and they completely abandoned the Run game in the third quarter and we've seen this in the past in Super Bowls such as the Falcons blowing the lead in the Super Bowl against Patriots and teams not wanting to run the ball in the third quarter for some reason and especially when you have somebody like Christian mcaffrey and you have Trent Williams and Company blocking for him ahead of you I think that trying to put the ball in Brock P's hands in the third quarter and I get that it was a lot of screen plays quick action plays but they run that offense through Christian mcaffrey whether it's screen plays quick passes running plays and just because he fumbled on the first drive doesn't mean that you got to stop giving him the ball like he is reliable enough to continue to feed him and I think that if they did that they might have been able to control the game more fero's so good at running the ball like the Niners were too was two of like two really great Rush offenses just completely abandoned the run and the chiefs were one of the like worst teams against the defense like left in the I mean against the Run left in in the playoffs which I don't know like just like you were saying Sam like I may not know like what play to run but I know that the chief's defense is not good against the run your offense is good at running the ball why don't you run the ball as as much as you can Kickstart the Brock py discourse and all of that the quarterback wasn't why the Niners were at the in the position that they were you Sam I'm glad that you said it yeah it was it was it was the team around them like I'm not say no knock against per here anything I think he been a lot of change of opinions on py in the last couple weeks I think he did a great I think he did a great job all year and it's like for for what was expected of him it's not his fault that he got thrown into like the fire of being talked about as a great quarterback and all of that but the thing is you're not sitting there as a defense and being worried about Brock P stepping back and throwing the ball as you are with like when you see there was I think shout out PFT he said back in the day there's quarterbacks where they drop back and you see them loading up and you're like oh like whoever gets whoever this is going to it's going to be a catch it's going to be a big play and there's other quarterbacks who drop back and you're thinking like please help like I hope this goes to someone does something good that's kind of how you felt with perie in that game like for a team that plays such good coverage to just abandon it and because I gu Steve Spagnola is probably licking his chops there by the end and thinking like they're just going to sit back and like let us play coverage this entire time that's that's awesome and sure they got the best of them a couple times but it was like they were able to limit that and tons of three and outs in like the third quarter I don't know it's like like Shanahan what the are you doing dude I'm not a football coach and I don't know how hard your job is or whatever but all I know is that like we're sitting here and oh we are not getting paid to literally work on football for 24 hours a day like you are and you just you couldn't get your guys to figure this out and you couldn't figure it out so I like you Shanny but you gotta be better you gotta be better I I feel like that's that's one point I did want to hit on with you guys too is so I mean you look at Shanahan Super Bowl track record you know I mean it's it's a testament to how great of a coach he is that he's able to go to as many Super Bowls as he's been to as a coordinator and a uh and a head coach but I don't know it I feel like you kind of have to scratch your head and be like okay so why is he blowing all these leads in the Super Bowl like is it something schematically like what like what is happening there is it is it is game management an issue like does he fold under the pressure of the the big game like I don't know why um a coach of his caliber isn't able to like be able to put a team to bed you know what I mean I I just want somebody to be able to to to finish the job because it's always like like Sam was saying it always seems like you have them down you have them down like like it's almost like never do you that's the thing you can't put the final nail in the coffin yeah that that's exactly it I think that when you think that you have them beat they don't think that they're beat and that DNA is not something that you can just that's what I said earlier was that they they have that mentality that it seems like no other team has where it's like none of that like none that affects them
