hi everybody this is Scott from Z fan BBQ & Grill welcome to the channel is this gonna be a channel that's gonna be about outdoor cooking with your family and outdoor cooking for the family we're gonna have reviews of equipment we're gonna hopefully go over some recipes hopefully develop a few of our own talk about some cooking techniques and just have fun being outside and grilling food today we're going to start with a new piece of equipment that our family just got we just purchased and received the new camp shift wood wind Wi-Fi 36 took awhile to get get here for those of you that know what's going on around us in April of 2020 it's taken a little bit of time to get some things but we're pretty excited to put it together and get it going we also purchased a couple of accessories with this deluxe BBQ grill box that'll go on top of the sidekick accessory that goes with it as well as a patio cover and we still have a few more parts that are going to start trickling in here from UPS and FedEx so just a real quick before we pause and get into the unboxing as you can see from the packaging that got a little banged up it doesn't look like anything detrimental happened but we'll go ahead and the next part of the video open everything up and make sure that everything was well protected and nothing was dinged or scratched up along the way so we'll see you in a few okay welcome back so we just got everything unbundled and the panicking looks pretty good so one of the features that I really liked a lot of times when you get these big box items you just have to get the box cutter out and kind of go crazy to get everything apart but this one was pretty simple the top is just held together by the band's and it just slid off so be kind of nice because we can cut it open and kind of create a platform on the deck here so we don't scratch any of the stuff while we're putting it together looks pretty solid nice and tight a lot of styrofoam holding things in place no visible dings or scratches yet save with the bot the hopper assembly everything looks to be quite tightly packed and nice and safe and the sidekick and the deluxe barbecue grill box as well so I'm gonna go ahead and get started and get some cardboard platforms built on the deck here and we're gonna start putting it together okay so we got most everything unboxed but wanted to go over a couple of things that I noticed while I was removing all the packaging and the plastic bags first of which is the neat packaging within the chamber itself with the legs and wheels again nice and tight the grates are all individually wrapped to me that's kind of attention to detail very secure packaging most of the stuff for the side burner another kind of small thing it's kind of trivial but the fact that the drip pan comes with the foil liner the disposable liner another nice touch previous smokers we purchased we had to go buy those separately for the drip cups okay so after taking a look at everything it's not quite as bad as we thought but there are still some discrepancies so the first step in this is to attach the legs and they tell you to go ahead and grab a couple of bags with particular labels and they're using letter labeling the bags are actually numbered rather than letter but they do tell you which series to use and the bags actually do have the designation of what kind of screw they are what kind of nut they are and everything so you've got any handiness whatsoever there should be no problem to put together they do provide a an allen wrench tool for you most of the bolts with in the packet are Allen bolt these are metric I decided to make it a little bit easier on myself I'm gonna use a ratchet with an Allen socket rather than using that it's a little speedier to put things together there are also some Phillips screws so I got an assortment of Phillips screwdrivers and pliers and an adjustable wrench just in case so we're gonna move on to the first step here which is inserting the legs into the body we've tipped the body over be careful so your lid doesn't flip open on you when you do that you're using the cardboard to make sure that we don't drop anything through the slats of the deck and it may require two people after we get the legs put in - go ahead and flip it upright and the remaining assembly will be done when it is so we're gonna go ahead and start with the legs which are pretty simple just bolts and lock washers they've got nuts already inserted in here riveted into the legs so it could be pretty easy to get those going there is a front and back on here that you have to pay attention to so the bigger back wheels want to make sure they're facing outward they call them the front there actually that's their front and back so one with a small caster in one of the large Kassar will each have an F on them just go on the front of the like this rather than left and right and then one big caster for back and a small caster with the be labeled [Music] in there you put these in you gotta make sure you're lining up your use a called nut search got to make sure we line those up the holes finger tighten these okay so we got all of the em 8 by 20 bolts in the legs we're gonna go ahead and tighten them up like I said before rather than you see me tool that comes with it I prefer to use a ratchet it's much speedier and a lot easier to use in my book okay again these were em 8 by 20s we've exhausted everything was in the bag it is labeled incorrectly with bag 1 they say it should be bag F in the manual but pretty easy simple there were eight of them and we're gonna go ahead and tighten those down now along with the lock washers don't want to talk too crazy on these they do have lock washers on them just kind of hand tight the lock washer should do their job unless you're moving it around a lot from a backyard to a patio to your driveway so on and so forth this one's gonna be pretty stationary here on the deck so we shouldn't have to worry about it well I prefer using the ratchet versus a single Allen okay I'll go ahead and finish up the back and then we'll start on the next part in the manual okay so the next step is to put on the chimney the 3m 6 by 15 screws were already in the back of the smoker box I've already loosened those up let's go ahead and take those out there Phillips head again they've got the riveted nut certs in here already for you one of the nice touches on this one I'm a big one on previous smokers of having to get gasket tape and food-grade RTV to seal them up already comes with one with the chimney which makes things kind of nice and the chimney top already threaded with a long boat little thread in here I do need do you see a potential problem on the need to investigate so there are three holes for the chimney and two holes here so I'm gonna have to investigate what that looks like and make sure there isn't some other part that's compatible with another grill or something like that so we'll return okay so this was definitely a problem there were three holes drilled with three rivets put in on the body and the stock holes there were only two so I've been waiting on this for about three weeks to ship so I'm a little impatient right now and was not willing to wait for them to ship me a new one so I decided to go ahead and fix it myself because I have the capabilities and the tools did mess up a little bit of my measurement then I'll walk you through what I did so I kept the bottom hole or actually I lined it up and then did some measuring to find out where my three holes should be on this use the center punch quarter inch drill bit drilled out new holes and cut these out with a utility knife on the gasket and then just to keep it from rusting I went ahead and spray painted it with flat brake paint flat black paint it wasn't heat-resistant but I'm hoping that Camp Chef is going to go ahead and send me a new one if they tell me no because I fabricated it and they wanted this one back I'll live I'll be okay it's just a chimney and this thing's gonna have a lot of scars on it and a lot of grease and Duncan smoke here pretty soon hopefully anyway so and like I said I did mess up my measuring a little bit it was kind of hard to measure the triangle so I had to ream this one out a little bit to make it fit and let the screws line up so now we can go ahead and install it so I'm going to go ahead just to make things a little easier I'm gonna start a couple screws with the gasket so everything's lined up come back since these don't have lock washers on them and maybe Loctite them we'll see like I said before we won't be moving this around very much so I don't know worried about any screws or bolts coming loose okay looks pretty straight that's about the position that should be in you now for the chimney cap again this was preassembled with a long bolt through the chimney cap with a lock nut on here to stop it so you can't go in too far now we'll adjust that later when we start cooking okay I'm gonna move on to the next step okay so the next step is the handle and the handle deflector this came free assemble it had two of these shoulder bolts two of these spacers slash decorative pieces on it just like this and the heat deflector so we've already tried this once and this is probably going to be a two-person job so we're gonna get one side started and then we'll walk you through getting the second one because trying to hold three pieces together on two sides of a lid was a little bit awkward on the first try so we'll be back okay so we got one side started it was much easier with two people so we're gonna get this other one ready move on to the next step okay so hopefully you can see this but I actually assembled this thing correctly I had this heat shield upside down which is why you have to solder bolts so they can go through there and stopped at the lid and hold everything in nice and tight so that def we work that and you already started the other side [Music] so these would be kind of hard to over-tighten because they've got the shoulder on the bolt and you have to make sure that you line these up correctly because if you turn this upside down the lid won't close because this heat deflector will actually hang below the edge of the lid so we should be good the next step okay so the next step is to put on the shelf in between the legs I don't know how much I'll end up using that I don't know how utilitarian it'll be for storing stuff on especially even if when you move it just a couple of feet to get it away from the wall of the house when you're cooking although the railings on the deck when you're crossing over all the planks if you've got anything on there it's a pretty slippery surface so things could slide off but one very important thing that it does need to be on four is it'll create stability for your legs so it's kind of a trussing effect so when we put the shelf on there and get the bolts all tightened up across the legs it'll kind of tie everything together these are mounted pretty strongly anyway in the frame underneath the body but still adding that extra strength when you're moving a real heavy piece of equipment like this around will help but especially across a bumpy surface like our pretty aged deck it's warping pretty badly so this takes the m8 by sixty volts they're pretty long bag for again instructions didn't really line up with bag four and they use this flange will nuts on the other side these are useful because they'll kind of dig into the powder coating and kind of lock themselves in place so you don't need a lock washer so I'm going to start a couple of these and then I'm gonna go ahead and get the rest started after I show you what's going on and then we'll go ahead and tighten everything down so pretty simple affair these aren't square holes so you don't need to worry about carriage bolts or anything like that just regular round boat stickies all the way to your legs sorry for my head getting in the way that's true to the other side this was a pretty tight fit and I did maroc my stuff a little bit on my legs but I am NOT one of those people that cares about whether or not my grills face pristine looking and shiny and in brand new all that I bought it to use it and it's gonna get dirty so I'm gonna turn these casters out a little bit I'm gonna have to do this blind to find all the holes and get everything lined up all right so I'll go and get these - these are the two started and then I'll show you how we can go ahead and tighten those because we've got this big lift to deal with so we'll be right back okay on these I didn't feel like it my wrench set out so I'm just using an adjustable wrench on the inside on the nut and it's a flange nut so as I tighten the bolt those flanges should catch in the powder coating and kind of keep the nut in place while I tighten down not gonna go too tight here I don't want to create any this isn't the thickest metal and I don't want to talk on your too hard and I didn't want to get them too tight and I didn't want to keep in my way so look at this last one tightened and then we'll go ahead and move on to the next step okay so the next thing that I want you to do is put the lid and the hop regard in what its end up looking like is something like this with a screw into the hopper guard through the hopper body and out to a hinge on the lid I am NOT going to put this in to make it easier to clean out my coloreds I know this is a pellet smoker I'm not going to put wood chips in it this seems kind of overkill to me and I think it'll be easier to clean and I also don't feel like trying to feed three screws through this hole or two screws through this hole the body and the hinges I think that would be kind of a pain you know what and I just don't think this is needed I think if you apply common sense because this is a girl and don't put wood chips in it you'll be fine and I think it'll make it much much easier to clean out when you need to I know this has an empty feature for the pellets anyway but sometimes when you're changing you might want to get them out of there you might want to clean out your auger because you actually know other things yet what whatever this will make it a lot easier if this grade isn't in there to get to those components and clean them out so it's pretty simple the screws are gonna go in from the inside and then they're gonna go through the rivets on the hinge here it's closed via a magnet so I'm gonna go ahead and get one of these started and then show you how any tricks I learned while trying to keep everything all lined up these will use the m4 ten screws in bag number six according to well not according to the instructions so be back after I get one of these started and figure out how to kind of hold everything together and do that at the same time okay so it may have been a good idea to get a towel to get down in there so you don't drop this little screw but this is pretty easy for me to do with two hands and I'm accustomed to doing things like this so I don't feel like going to get in the top and I got lucky no screw lost casualties just go ahead and give this a quick tighten down with a Phillips you know we're ready for the next step this is our first time posting to the channel so we're kind of learning how to do things and we accidentally deleted a clip from yesterday so I wanted to double back and show everybody how to put theirs hopper assembly in now that we've gotten the lead on i've already mounted the thermometer and i've already threaded it through the body and i'm going to make sure that all these wires are tucked in here so i don't pinch anything and there are going to be four holes here with screws that are going to go from the inside of the body the gasket was already assembled on the hopper we've already got the ash clean-out rod in there now it's sliding the entire hopper assembly and making sure our wires aren't getting pinched lining up our holes and starting our floor screens in the inside okay so I've gotten those two started I'm gonna go ahead and finish up the rest here and we'll move on to the neck so the next step is they actually screw the thermometer in I had to make sure I had everything routed with their lawyers back in there safely and it's just gonna be two little screws that came with the mounting screws for the hopper itself and their machine screws yourself taffy okay so at this point we've got not too much left we got the hopper mounted we've got the grill slide for indirect or direct heating we've got the burner installed which is attached to the hopper we've got the pullout for the ash cleaning so it looks like probably next step is to mount the gravy mounts for the top drug rates so let's take a look at that and we'll be right back okay so we're getting ready to install the upper rack mounts they just use two on each side to em 6 by 15 screws along with m6 fine engine s pretty self-explanatory go in like this [Music] pretty tight fit back here okay these are just Phillips I'm not gonna walk everybody through tightening these down but I'm just gonna use my adjustable wrench in my Phillips to tighten these down so I'm gonna go ahead and get the other side now in it and then I think we're gonna be ready to go ahead and slap the grates in so we'll be right back alright so it's time to put the grate in pretty nice great enamel coated steel so you'll notice that they've got these little cutouts that'll be able to slide along the tracks here so this will be the bottom [Music] so the configuration that you can do on these is you can do separate top and bottom you could do something like this item to get them out of your way you need more cooking room if you're doing several slabs of ribs you could do something like that so pretty flexible a lot you can do with that I'm just gonna go ahead and stack ours like that to make sure when we do our initial burn in I can see the igniter and the burn box and all that I do know that in the instructions next step pretty simple just install the ash Cup so there's already posts on the stem that comes out of the bottom we're just going to slip it over that give it a quick twist and it's on another thing so by default Camp Chef would win Wi-Fi 36 comes with a side shelf we are not going to be installing this because we are going to be stalling the sidekick accessory box instead so we're gonna go ahead and get everything prepped on that and take a look at the instructions and we'll be right back to install that okay so we were a little premature and putting the bottom grates and we forgot to put the heat shield in the diffuser shield there's a certain way that this goes in and it's very oily by the way I think I'm probably going to go ahead and wrap mine in foil but a couple of design features on this is are these slotted holes and it's actually going to slope so that it comes down in here into the drip tray and will drain out into the drip drain with the bucket attached to it so it's got a large edge for the bottom and a small edge for the top so that you've got the slope again really oily I'm probably gonna go ahead and wrap it in foil just we don't have to do as much cleaning and it just sits there notice the slope it'll just flow down into the drain cache and again the enamel great to the bottom it's kind of nice that there's three pieces with the enamel we'll make it nice and easy to clean up and set the rear loop in first they are pretty tight so you don't have gaps in between your grades like you see on some girls so we've got the sidekick ready to go and we'll be right back and show you how to install that okay we're now ready to go ahead and install this ear box but a couple of things that I wanted to show everybody and kind of how this works so the first thing that they had us do is take out the two rear screws here to mount the propane tank holder I didn't take that but that's pretty simple two Phillips screws put the holder on put the screws back in another thing with the sidekick I had to mount these two legs that are going to stick out from the side and it uses two screws here to level out the sidekick I'll show you how that works but basically we're going to mount across the top holes here to the body of the grill and then we'll use those screws and screw them in or out to make sure that our sidekick is level that will come in handy when you're frying things in grease you want to make sure your cast iron pan and your grid was completely covered maybe something like boiling pasta things like that so we're go ahead and get the four screws mounted and then we'll take a look at how level it is it's also going to depend on the surface so I may wait to do that later on when I kind of find the placement on the deck but I want the girl to be so pretty simple here start with the four screws the rivets are already in the body of the grill just going to start one so it kind of holds it up for me now it should stay and we just screw driver to get these others started because of the tight confines and again as we said before when you're doing these kinds of things you want to make sure when you're using multiple screws start all your screws first before you start tightening things down it's always a little bit of extra play and if you start the first one and tighten it down you might not be perfectly aligned to start the remaining screws these screws did come separately with the sidekick you could use the black screws the m6 screws and six by 15s it came with the shelf but we don't need it and I prefer to go with the stainless steel looking screws anyway okay now that we've got them all started go ahead and tighten down these four okay you got a couple more to do I'll go ahead and tighten those off-camera so we'll be right back and we'll put all the stuff on the sidekick and show you what that looks like okay we're ready for the final pieces of assembly so the sidekick is mounted securely we haven't leveled it out yet but I'll take care of that after I go ahead and find the spot that I want on the deck for the grill so the sidekick by default comes with a griddle don't think it's cast-iron I think it's that treated steel instead pretty simple you want to install the drip tray first nice feature make sure you don't make a mass that goes over the lip on the side kit there's a handy handle in the front of the griddle this sits in the recess and that way your grease will flow down into your drip pan so also we ended up getting the optional sidekick accessory the grill box I've assembled the handle the grill box deluxe comes with the bi-metal thermometer on top the locking lid in a cast iron grate which I've already put in it does have its own grease and each shield that'll sit over the 17,000 BTU burner and just as with the griddle it simply sits right in the recesses on the sidekick and there you go ready to do some searing cooking your vegetables while you're smoking their meat things like that so that pretty much concludes the unboxing and the Assembly of the Camp Chef woodwind Wi-Fi 36 inch smoker pellet grill pretty excited assembly wasn't too difficult there could be a little bit work to be done on the instructions to make sure they match with the parts for those that might have a little bit more of a challenge putting that together definitely a job that probably takes two people I did need a hand from time to time tipping it over after I got the legs on getting the handle in and the deflector shield through here was a little bit difficult and I needed a hand with that but pretty much everything else went his plan and went pretty smoothly can't complain I think it was packed very well I think that the instructions could use a little bit of work but this is a quality product it's very sturdy and we can't wait to start using it so we're going to go ahead and sign off for now thank you for watching Z man Z fam BBQ & Grill we appreciate it and we're going to move on to the burnin and our first cook in the next video thank you
