Cambridge University Graduation

hi everyone and welcome back to my channel for those of you that are new here my name is Ellie and I've just finished studying part three of the mathematical tripos at the University of Cambridge and today is my graduation day so I'm very excited to be bringing out this video to you to show you what a Cambridge graduation looks like I will be doing a voiceover for this video but I'll also be making a video which will be a much shorter with some music over the top but I thought in this video I'll give you a bit of a commentary on what I'm doing so first things first I got ready for my graduation I stayed in Airbnb with two of my friends from Cambridge I then headed to Sydney Sussex College which is my college to meet some other friends Eleanor and Jack and to pick up my tickets for my family members I then met my family at a coffee shop just before I went to do rehearsal for the graduation itself so I'm currently showing you Sydney Sussex colleges chapel and this was one of the most amazing parts of my experience at Cambridge was to just come into here and and see all the beautiful architecture and everything but this was where we were doing our rehearsal all so for me I had my undergrad elsewhere and my graduation there was very different it was very much a shake hands and get your graduation certificate whereas as you'll see in my Cambridge video it's very different so we had to have about half an hour just rehearsing everything getting organized getting ourselves in line and rehearsing the actual graduation itself so that's what we did in the chapel here so after the rehearsal we came out of the chapel a few of us came out at a time because we were getting our outfits checked checking that everything looked okay we had quite a small graduation ceremony so the way that it works at Cambridge is instead of undergrad where you graduate with your degree so for me I graduated with the rest of the maths cohort today at Cambridge what we do is you graduate with your college so here pictured with me is kashiv and Saeed they both did m-fills which are masters of philosophy keship did his in environmental science and said did his in sociology which is why they had blue hoods whereas I had a gold told because I did a masters of advanced study in mathematics here is Keisha van Saeed practicing for the graduation itself so they're giving you a bit of a sneak peek of what the graduation will be like and you'll see that in just a moment but we reconvened in the MCR just to see everybody kind of get excited before the procession the flag was flying at my college Sydney Sussex and each of the colleges will fly their Flags when there is a graduation going on now here is the procession so for those of you that don't know at Cambridge when you graduate essentially there is something called A procession which is where you line up in order of your degrees so there were a fair few doctors graduating with me today and then I was masters of advanced study so that's why I was at the back but I quite enjoyed being at the back it's quite nice I got to see everybody graduate in front of me but this procession is where you walk from your college and then you walk all the way to Senate house where you will be graduating I really like this touch of the graduation itself because it felt more homely I guess I spent a lot of time in my college and to walk from my college through the streets of Cambridge to Senate house where I'd be graduating was a very surreal experience and it was nice because obviously as you can see here everybody then follows you as you walk to the Senate house so Morgan was filming again here and it was nice because being at the end it was nice it had that okay I'm gonna go graduate now but I have all my friends and family behind me it was also nice to be wearing a gold Hood when everyone else was wearing blue I felt like I kind of stood out a little bit more I felt a little bit more unique it was quite nice and the hood matched my hair which is great we were we were coordinating there but yeah so I am here in a sea of blue we were walking through the streets and this is a walk I did plenty of times that I would often go near King's Chapel and that is near Center house itself just for walks and walks around Cambridge so to be walking with a degree you know going to get my degree and everything it was it was a very surreal experience here we are lined up at the Senate house where we were getting our uniforms checked once more and here are some pictures because I didn't actually get a video of me going into Senate house before the graduation so here are some pictures that my very best friend Cameron took of us entering Senate house before the graduation so here is the graduation program which had every list of everybody that was graduating so for reference this is the list of all of the degrees that can be conferred in the Senate house and this is the order that you will go and graduate in which is why I was at the back but that was my graduation it was so surreal I honestly like had tears in my eyes when I was getting my degree Comfort I was just so happy everything has finally started to sink in I finished last year my you know my degree and it is finally sunk in after I graduated and I've cried a lot happy tears a lot of happy tears I'm very proud of myself and it has just been the most incredible experience and to have this special day to graduate was was just amazing so here I am outside Senate house where we got lots of pictures as you'll see in a moment I was with my family and that just made it even more special to me we then went to have a look at the photo that was taken of me during my graduation which I will put an image on the screen right now I'm not sure if you can tell but I was very emotional I look like I'm almost crying in this photo because I was just so happy and so overcome with emotion editing this a week later I'm still on a big high from from my graduation so I got to spend a lot of time with my family I have three sisters and my mum and my dad and we had such a lovely time got lots of photos together to to remember the occasion and it was just nice to be surrounded by my family a very special special time for myself so after we had gone to get the photo we then just took lots of pictures on Senate house so these are all of my friends that I met at Cambridge if you've watched my previous videos I'm sure you'll recognize some of their faces this wasn't all of them sadly one of my closest friends Heidi couldn't graduate with us so I'm mentioning her in this video because she was there in spirit but these are some of my closest friends at Cambridge and without them I wouldn't have had the experience I had it was an incredible time for me and it was even more incredible because of the people that I met so some of the people that you see who aren't in graduation attire they are either doing phds or they graduated before so after taking lots of photos on the Senate house we went for a meal with my family this is the graduation dinner this is Sydney sussex's Hall and if you've watched any of my other videos you'll know I filmed this so many times because it was the most beautiful haul I'd ever seen and being back after being away for almost a year was just incredible having to sit down have this beautiful meal around the people that made my Cambridge experience so special it was just incredible I had the most amazing time I was also sat next to my college tutor during my time at Cambridge who is also a professor in the department of Applied Mathematics and theoretical physics which is where I studied and it was really nice being able to talk to him again talk about his research you know what I did on my masters obviously studying maths and it was honestly such a nice evening for me this was the same hole that we matriculated in and when we had amateur regulation dinner it felt like two minutes ago that that happened and the whole experience had just flown by I think that helped me realize that I had actually graduated as I said it hadn't sunk in before until this weekend when I graduated and I think that made the experience so much more special after the graduation dinner it was a time for many celebrations so we took lots of photos in the hall itself and here is Cameron and I just sneaking away to go get a photo at the top of the hall which was one of my favorite places to go whenever we'd have formals or anything in this Hall just because it looks so pretty I also really enjoyed the gold and the red we stuck away to get a photo at the top of the hall just because last occasion and everything and then we went and celebrated went out for some drinks we went to Darbar which is Darwin bar and that's essentially a lot of the colleges have their own student-run bars we have one at Sydney but unfortunately because this was out of term time ours was closed so we went to Darbar listened to some great music and then we had it out and had a night out in Cambridge I had the most amazing weekend with all of my friends and just graduation has finally sunk in now it was amazing and I'm so glad I get to share this video with you and show you what an incredible weekend I had I'd also just like to end this video by saying thank you to everybody who has supported
