called uncle and there's a lot of talk about Bill Monroe's uncle 10 we taught him how to play mountain music and whole time music and the kind of where bluegrass music came from as far as Bill Monroe is concerned if you look at it from the Bill Monroe lens of where bluegrass music comes from uncle pan so here's a tune called Uncle [Music] well he fit all all the natural life and he farmed a long long time wife and kids passed away and left well he came one day to live with us when I was a child still he had the ramble round the country style the money was scarce the time you said she's biting me [Music] well he'd lead from home with nothing but she'd come back leaping down he always had a horse or Julie trading or somehow [Music] the board I have someone to show him sometime set him straight on down the road lord help to ease is money was his time suspect who trace my brain [Music] again [Music] while we're you know I rode behind him there for three or four miles back weekend across that bridge voting [Music] and then we play while they dance around if we made any money then we always spit it down does the money my again you [Music] [Applause] [Music] I recall the time so well they seemed like yesterday Lingus the two of us [Music] oh but now he's gone away someplace there's nothing left to show but an old brown fiddle on the wall hanging next to the one [Music] I'm really a wonderful festival called tuna tuna festival like like the thing you put on your guitar this thing tuner but spelled tio nd er worth is festival and this Irish band played it before us and they had a gal who was the singer and she didn't have an instrument so she's out there singing and being awesome and clapping in life you know 3,000 people are like clapping along because she's out there doing this the whole time and and then foghorn gets up and we all play instruments and we're out there playing away were strumming away and we had a fun show but people didn't really clap along that much with us and they read off the stage and the promoter who was kind of our booking agent and promoter he's like you know I really think that you guys need to get the crowd clapping and I was thinking of myself like so I was like thank you for doing I guess I could have stopped for a moment encouraged it I'll do a song for you from Bill Monroe this one's called no one but my darling State [Music] [Applause] thanks so much I'll tell you a little short story about that tune where Reeves from Central Washington a lot of wheat farming and they get those wheat trucks full full of grain and they gotta get down to the river or somewhere where they can drop off their heavy load of wheat and these trucks sometimes have to go down into Palisades is this beautiful Canyon with a really lush Valley down below they've got a lot of irrigation down then they can water it really dry all around it and there's these three sort of steps in the hill to get down into the bottom of the canyon from up above and those are the three Devils and if you're a truck driver hauling a huge heavy little wheat you got to be really careful on those three Devils you might not make it down with your brakes working you gotta gear down you're down early so that part in the tune where it's like [Music] I can see all right George Jones and he George Jones called the color of the blue [Music] we all like the tween me [Music] the color [Music] [Music] [Applause] we can't sing all sad love songs because like David said it's too close to Valentine's Day and it's almost mighty growl which is just all too much fun and uh that's really special I'm one really special friend and they're not a new really special friend in the audience tonight they're getting married next weekend very exciting or her friends yeah on her friends Walter and Ava getting married [Applause] [Applause] and here's how it all starts folks you have kind of a crush on somebody probably right to lead to the getting married so yeah you see someone across the room or something like that or something kind of sparks your eye you write a song like this [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] you know and playing country songs if you feel the urge there's plenty of room to two-step there's already some people warming up the floor out there [Music] just sing okay we're changing the setlist a little bit oh and awesome cuz usually I get busted for changing the set was this one this next song is a song that was written by a friend of ours named Dean Johnson he lives in Seattle and he's a great songwriter and this is one he wrote called faraway skies he's got an album coming out in July so keep your eye out [Music] I'm forever riding on the range of my my dreaming [Music] my time Ketel cause and canyon walls the tangled and spur I have gone through this and start moving this sorry Gloria [Music] Milky Way [Music] and my trusty horse boot [Music] yes in Buffalo [Music] happy feeling laws [Music] when a spring [Music] [Applause] we learned that song from the Lilly brothers I've written be really really great players they're from West Virginia and there's a fellow who grew up just right down the street from them that was like their best buddy and somehow got later on in life gun I got associated with them more as far as doing their archiving and kind of finding a lot of old recordings and digging up old stuff and you now lives out in Bellingham Washington which is where we used to live and we have some good friends up there we play up there quite a bit and he he found us and thought that we were sort of like the brothers or something it's something he associated us with them and he just started kind of dumping music to us and really really encouraging us to listen to this home some of their music and I had heard of them and I'd heard some of their music but not really studied it much for you know from a musician's standpoint and it's really been fun to dig up their songs and maybe we'll try a brand new one we haven't ever performed this one yet now I'm talking about it we'll we'll try this one is the lily brothers song so it's an old one but it's brand-new like the whole weekend is like full-on down there till Mardi Gras and make the most of it we don't play we don't sing any French Cajun songs at all but like said we'll be doing some stuff comes from Jimmy C Newman who is from Mamou Louisiana which is really close to their occasion over there there's one called the great big fade odo which is just kind of a big dance party fit odo is like French
