1984 XJ 600, very bad condition, barely running I suspect clogged carbs and rusted tank Seems I was right... fuel is already rusty Look at that rust/fuel mix...no wonder why it ran so bad Removing carbs for ultrasonic cleaning and rebuild Bowls are fuel of rust, water and fuel, nice mix! Pre-cleaning the bowls Gummy rust, yummy Preparing the carbs for ultrasonic bath, removing jets etc. Normal maintenance : removing air filter, battery, etc. Tire valve needs to be changed Changing fork oil with heavy duty 15w oil which is a lot better for handling Plastidipping the forks Tire valve has been changed! Removing stripped master cylinder screws Bar plugs need to be cut down, too rusty! Mounting the new speedometer Changing the grips Don't forget the safety wire! First clean of the tank with a vinegar solution Cleaning the fuel petcock Draining the tank Look at all the rust from inside the tank! Pouring some vinegar solution again to let it sit for a week Got the carbs back from ultrasonic cleaning: rebuilding them with new seals takes a lot of time... Mounting back the carbs Battery has been recharged Removing the rusty old muffler Draining the tank one week later Nice rust again! Now good for a deep wash! Pouring some rust remover Then thoroughly washing the tank Tank has been sealed with Tank cure sealant (not recorded too long...) Rebuilding the petcock Installing an inline fuel filter Adding some DB killers lol Fitting the new exhaust Time for the hacksaw!! Fitting the new seat! Test fit! This was... extremely hard.. I mean really really hard... Already looks better :) Time to synchronized and tune the carburetors I'm using 4 vaccuum gauge for this Seems pretty good and equal! Here is my setup to have it running without the tank Led strip tail light just like on the K75 Oil, filter and o-ring change! Time for exhaust wrap to help cool the cylinders and looks good too! Installing a new reinforced throttle cable Test ride, and adding some fuel system cleaner before fresh fuel Checking and changing the sparkplugs Preparing the frame for a steel reinforcement on the back Nice and clean :) Making the final seat mounts Installing the new blinkers Changing all the valve cover bolts seals with brand new ones! And the final racing touch: steel braided brakelines for improved stopping power! Braking power has been greatly improved with this Are you ready for it??? Surprise! I did a grey and black wrap on the tank over the white To contact me or for more info, visit tomracingdesigns.com And my favourite thing about this bike...
