[Music] so you plan on buying a brand new cadillac ct5v blackwing that's right supercharged v8 0 to 60 in less than three and a half seconds oh yes or maybe you can't quite afford it and you just want to uh maybe build your dream cadillac if you could afford it well the beauty of the internet is we can all dream and enjoy the aspect of building our own car and specking out the way we want with the car configurators and in this video we're gonna go through the ct5v black wing configurator and i'm gonna cover all the little details because sometimes configurators can be confusing and there may be little details where you might not understand what you are getting or not getting with certain options and when your dream car arrives whether it be in your dreams or at the dealer lot i want you to get exactly what you're expecting we'll also talk about some of the features in the car and i've actually had some direct feedback from cadillac's performance variant team as well as marketing about some of the elements that are in this car as well as the ct4v blackwing and if that's what your dream car is i'm gonna be doing another video about that in about a week going to the configuration on the four blackwing all right let's get started on configuring our ct5v blackwood [Music] all right let's get started here at the cadillac website just go to cadillac.com go to vehicles and scroll down to the vehicle you want of course we're going for the ct5v blackwing we're going to go up here to the top right build and price this opens the car configurator and note the symbols there's lots of little details this just alerts you that you should probably keep reading make sure you know what's going on all right so before we get started we need to talk about something very important in our world right now there is a huge division it's terrible it's tearing families apart i mean thanksgiving dinner can be rough no i'm not talking about liberals and conservatives i'm talking about manual versus automatic yeah i mean big deal here right i mean the manual is totally the best way to go right i mean it's classic using both feet you got to think a little more you get that shift feeling vroom vroom right no maybe automatic is better yeah 10 speeds better gear ratios for faster acceleration and way faster shifting than you can do with your hand yeah that's where it's at no no which one is it all right well don't worry about it you can now have a cadillac with both it's been a long time since cadillac's offered the six-speed transmission so this is really cool for those of you that are all about that so the 6-speed manual of course the advantage is that it is fun to drive that's all there is to it uh but let's talk about that automatic the 10-speed automatic does make the car faster and i know that a lot of uv owners already like you v3 owners most of you guys are straight line guys although you really need to get your car out to the curvy roads and tracks more often but for straight line if you want to have the fastest v it's probably going to be an automatic so you may want to consider choosing the 10-speed automatic in this car now you're not gonna miss out too much on the shifting of course there are the paddle shifters but we had that in the third generation as well but now they've added something new and that is the little shift selector the gear selector that puts drive reverse here on the center console well now we can use that and just click it forward and back to shift gears this is kind of cool it's like a little sequential shifter there's just no clutch involved and i just got this on my gt4 and i actually really like using it it's a nice balance between you know not having a real manual and still try to get that experience so consider that in the automatic i think it's pretty cool that they're adding that feature so uh for me this is gonna be my daily driver in my dreams at least uh and i don't really need that stick shift plus i like the fact that it's a little faster with the 10-speed automatic and real quick take a look at the cockpit here uh when we have the automatic you get this uh knob here to control the infotainment and you get some extra storage here uh and note how the arm rest is here well if you go to the six speed check this out the storage over here goes away you don't have the knob to control you get a little storage here though and it looks like the armrest goes back a little bit and i'm sure it's perfect for shifting but just notice those small differences all right so we're going to go with that let's choose a color all right i got lots of colors to choose from that's good uh cadillac made a big deal debuting this car with some radical colors like this blaze orange metallic very sexy uh or the electric blue and the electric blue has been popular lately the porsche just announced their gt3 in that color that's sort of their uh promo car color i saw an audi today in that color it's it's popular i don't think it's going to last myself but that's just me i don't think a cadillac should be that bright but i know there's a lot of people that want it so i think cadillac was smart bringing that color to the palette and this is a new color check this out this is a satin finish right here that is really cool but folks as a detail-oriented paint person i would not be able to deal with satin finish paint can't polish out scratches freaks me out a bit if you want satin finish get a car wrap it in stealth ppf like i did the porsche there you go and it doesn't scratch that's a cool color though i'm liking it i'm liking it uh the black raven always makes a sexy cadillac right i mean nothing like a black cadillac the satin steel metallic is similar to what they offered on the v3 in the later years it's a nice interesting silver the infrared tint coat is a lot like the crystal red tint coat that's been offered on the previous generation and by the way i love the red tint coat i'm not a red car guy but i love it on this car because cadillac got on board and there's no chrome right remember so many people in the last few years have gone to blacking out their chrome it's gone out of style and the black wing does not come with chrome accents so you already got the blacked out look with the red and if you add black rims this car looks amazing in red i really do love that that would probably be my second choice uh and then we've got the shadow metallic which is a lot like the phantom grey metallic or the thunder gray metallic from the second generation v i have been assured though that these are not the exact same colors and but they're going to be similar and with that i've always loved the thunder gray i love my phantom gray metallic cts vsport and i think i'm going to love the shadow metallic i would definitely check it out in person though first but these metallic grays are just gorgeous and they don't get like dirty easily like the black at least they don't you don't see the dirt right um and they're still kind of that sexy dark color so that is what i'm all about for sure so let's scroll on down now and take a look at the interior options so these are the base seats that you see in this picture here not too much different from the third generation seats honestly they've got some nice bolstering here on the sides i do like that so they look like they're useful but you have your choice of upgrading your seats uh for two thousand eight hundred ninety dollars for the first level and then six thousand ninety dollars for the next level that's a lot but let's take a look at what we're getting uh number one is just jet black and jet black and it this is a configuration assistant warning super important take note what is being removed when you choose this what is being added so it's removing the seats we just looked at and it's adding sueded microfiber wrapped interior trim package it's getting a whole sueded interior trim package when you choose these seats so choosing the seats is more than just choosing these seats you're also going to get the high performance front bucket seats so this is a price change of 28.90 because you're really getting two packages you're getting new seats and a trim package okay and here's what they look like they do look really nice uh this kind of reminds me what audi's doing with the diamond shapes but this is a unique shape if of cadillac it's great you got these openings here look like they'd go with a harness but no they're not functional you couldn't really put a harness in there in fact this is one of the tips i got from the performance variant manager uh is that uh you could yeah sure try to figure out a way to put in like a like a four to six point harness or something in here but he says it's actually not as safe to have that kind of harness in a car like this compared to standard seat belts without a roll bar so if you're gonna do harnesses you should be adding a roll bar otherwise you get pinned to the center of the seat and you will just smash your head on the roof apparently so uh a regular seat belt plus all these airbags totally safe all right moving on okay uh so you have two versions of these upgraded seats here's the other ones they got all this white or gray i think that's really cool a very unique look really adds to the sportiness uh and of course on your arm rests here so that's kind of neat but look you can get a similar look but it's not quite the same when you upgrade to the six thousand dollar seats let's click on the sky cool gray with jet black accents yeah see this all right let's go back and forth all right so they move the diamond patterns patterns sort of up here the center sections are leather and as it says here you're getting full semi-analyzed leather the other seats only the center seating section is real leather the bolsters and stuff might be other types of materials that's very common anytime you see seating surfaces that's what it means it means only the center is real leather the rest is other materials that are good for wear but this is a full leather seat that's also why you're paying for a little extra the backs of the seats are really sexy check these out carbon fiber backs with the v logo oh yeah that is just beautiful i love that we get the v logos up here that's that's really nice i like that with these other seats the backs are just uh sueded so that's still i think pretty sexy in my opinion i use the term sexy a lot cars are very sexy to me lately so yeah check that out i think that looks great as well with the v logo so you're not really missing out too much i don't think um and i would be pretty happy with these seats but these seats here i love the extra red trim on there i'm just a sucker for red stitching in seats so that is probably where i'm going to go for now plus that carbon fiber but if you have kids boy i would be going to the shop to get this covered in paint protection film clear bra and that will protect that beautiful carbon fiber i bet those seats are expensive to replace that's another reason they're six thousand dollars all right moving on okay packages now cadillac has told me that they have uh focused more on packages because they saw that in the last generations people just ended up picking a lot of the same stuff and so they're like we'll just put everything into packages and you know if you want to pick certain single items well some of those you can have and some of them you can't we'll get to that later all right let's start with how the car looks right now so this is the base setup uh notice you do get side skirts they're black plastic a little bit of a splitter up front and in the back you get a diffuser but there's more to this diffuser if you upgrade also look you just get a little bit of a lip spoiler so not much going on there so cadillac is offering two carbon fiber packages and these packages add extra aerodynamics so there's carbon fiber package one and two so number one again let's look at the details there's show more there's also the little eye here show more tells us that carbon fiber front splitter gets added in a carbon fiber front wheel deflectors which is just like the carbon fiber package from the v3 uh it's little deflectors right here on the wheel arches and then you get a carbon fiber rear extra arrow spoiler so this spoiler is going to give you extra aerodynamic downforce apparently so let's take a look at that now uh changing carbon fiber package one will also change the front carbon fiber splitter which i guess is an option you can get by itself we'll verify that in a bit boom let's see let's go over here look at the semi-side view of the car this quartering view you see now we've got that carbon fiber spoiler a lot like the one on the v3 but of course designed to fit the five that looks good let's take a look at the front all right so there we've got our carbon fiber splitter and those wheel arch bits there those are great for aerodynamics according to the performance variant manager uh mirza grebovich i hope that's how you pronounce your last name i haven't actually heard it but uh yeah so good aerodynamics now added for that four thousand dollar price tag now the carbon fiber two package is not a separate package folks don't don't mix that up this is what you add on to you can't pick number two by itself but you can pick number one by itself um but number two is is not like the better package this is another package you're adding on when you do that you're going to add in the rocker moldings with extensions so now you get the side skirts and carbon fiber and you get these uh rocker extensions back here with the carbon fiber diffuser yeah that looks really nice so uh yeah i've added quite a bit on here i mean that's nine thousand three hundred and thirty dollars if you want the full carbon fiber package that's quite a bit and all those parts are expensive to replace remember that cadillac owners this is not a cheap car to maintain anymore all right uh let's see what else do we got driver assist package notice it's already checked why is that it's 900 it says uh highlights include adaptive cruise control that's cool i love adaptive cruise control especially in the traffic i drive in here in the san francisco bay area and they didn't offer it in the v3 and that's they said that it was interrupting maybe like the cooling uh airflow or something but now they've got it on here i'm very happy about that enhanced automatic emergency braking i love emergency braking when people stop suddenly in front of you and you're changing your radio station or something saved my bacon a few times let's show more and reverse automatic braking okay great now if i select this to be removed look what it says changing driver assist package will also change the following it will remove all of these things and look right here if you remove this driver assist package it gets rid of your automatic transmission don't miss that folks don't think i don't need that driver assist stuff well if you remove it you're also going to be getting a six-speed manual so here it's adding the 373 axle ratio because the manual with the six speeds needs a different actual ratio than the automatic which is a 2.85 all right so watch out for that one folks that'll get you so i'm going to cancel that keep the driver assistant package but if you do remove it notice that it will decrease the price by three thousand dollars or so because you're also getting rid of that transmission and all these uh fancy features okay so we're gonna hang on to that now there's the parking package this one is not already checked the parking package is going to give you the hd surround vision which is really nice when you park you can see the curbs all around the car um and it's surround vision recorder so it can record all that i don't know for sure but i'm guessing if it's like some other cars these days it's a great security feature a rear camera mirror so that's the mirror that uh your rear view mirror you can hit flip the switch and it uses a camera pointing backwards so you're actually not looking at a reflection in the mirror you're seeing a camera view of everything behind you it's much more clear some people find it a little disorienting though so you can always just turn it off i like they've added pedestrian alerts that's good because i nearly run over a lot of people here in san francisco i'm just waiting for it to happen it's lots of people um automatic parking assist so that is the parallel and perpendicular parking automatic so that's cool hands-free deck lid release with cadillac logo projection light so you stick your foot under the bumper there and the deck lid releases oh but we picked the carbon fiber 2 package which means you don't get that feature with the carbon fiber 2 package okay cabinet ionizer heated power adjustable folding mirrors oh they're folding now something a lot of us have wished we had in our cadillacs and may require additional equipment now some of these you can pick individually i'll show you later so let's say that we want that and it says changing the parking package will also change the following uh you get this stuff okay so we got that on there all weather floor mats i know a lot of you like that but i live in california where we've deleted all the terrible seasons so i don't need to worry about that one let's move on to the exterior all right let's talk about the exterior the first option is the wheels of course now if you're planning to get aftermarket wheels my thought is just get the cheapest wheels and spend your money on those aftermarket wheels but if you like what cadillac has to offer and i think they're pretty cool you can spend your money here only up to fifteen hundred dollars on an option you get 19 inch wheels they're all forged wheels and if you have ever shopped for aftermarket wheels forged wheels are expensive but they're very strong great for the track and fairly lightweight generally alright so let's check out our options i'm going to take you to this other tab this is the front page for the ct5v blackwing and they do talk about the wheels so here are your three options for now before the magnesiums come out these are really cool design i think i like the graphite myself uh it just look at the detail here not so fun to clean but i think they're really cool uh these bronze ones also i really like they do come with the little black wing logo here i don't see that on the other wheels but i think that's a really nice touch um but i think these wheels do have a v logo somewhere at least the previous gen did right uh i would probably go for these bronze ones in this design if they came in graphite but i'm just going to stick with the graphite i think so let's click that 600 option see how my v is looking now oh yeah looks great okay let's see how it would look here with the aluminums yeah looks a little bit more like the base model and the bronze bronze is popular this is another color porsche has been doing a lot of look at that looks pretty mean i kind of like it but you know what i might get i might get these and i might have them powder coated a new new color is that blasphemous all right let's let's let's just stick with the graphite for now okay let's move on all right uh mechanical options so here is where you get a lot of little options uh to add in so electronic precision shift it's already included that's what i was talking about where you take the um the automatic shifter selector and you can pop it forward and back to shift gears for fun so that's already included battery protection package this is just a battery tender uh there's aftermarket ones of course too um i hope it says cadillac on it but uh uh it is a dealer installed accessory so i'm sure they're just gonna add a little pigtails or whatever so you can easily plug in your car to keep the battery charged but up to you all right here's the big one guys i want to talk about carbon ceramic brakes with cross-drilled rotors that is a really cool option the first time it's ever being optioned on a cadillac uh nine thousand dollars are you in sticker shock yet well folks that's what all the other luxury cars are charging basically for them if you want to buy a porsche panamera it's actually a few dollars less like 30 dollars less than that to get carbon ceramics in your car and if you're a baller and you've got all the money and you want to equip your car with that you probably want to right because then you're going to get all the people going oh he's got the carbon ceramics right i know it's it's kind of more of a glamour thing these days i think but the truth is there are goods to the carbon ceramic brakes and the reason people love them is number one of course it's a status symbol they're very expensive but here it says they deliver a significant reduction in rotating mass on this car about 64 pounds of weight loss at the wheels there which is really good for your handling and acceleration uh so that's really awesome so for your straight line guys carbon ceramics are kind of good because it's gonna help the car a little bit but it also helps at the track for handling apparently uh does not generate as much brake dust that is a big deal right everyone complains about brake dust but what you don't realize is good brake pads dust the kind that you use at the track they create tons of dust the kind that don't create dust those are the ones that are just okay for normal street driving well with carbon ceramics you're getting track quality braking plus no dust fabulous keeps those beautiful wheels clean all right uh includes choice of one color at no additional cost so now you get free choice of blue red or bronze calipers when you choose carbon ceramic brakes i think that's a really cool thing that they threw in there otherwise you're gonna have to pay 595 dollars if you want those red calipers which is what i'm gonna choose now the other really great advantage to carbon ceramic brake rotors is they last a long time probably somewhere around at least a hundred thousand miles the steel rotors that you might have had on a cts v3 for example you'd probably have to change somewhere between 30 to maybe 60 000 miles but a carbon ceramic rotor is going to last two to three times longer and that's good because they're really expensive for example the zr1 corvette was the other gm car that had carbon ceramics i couldn't remember what the camaro did but the carbon ceramic rotor on a zl1 is going to cost you 2 000 at least maybe upwards to three thousand dollars each so six thousand dollars just to change your front rotors call it another four maybe for the rears that's an expensive brake job not including the 500 brake pads uh per axle so uh that isn't unheard of either i mean porsche is gonna charge you about twelve thousand dollars for the fronts on a panamera and eleven thousand for the rears on a panamera so yeah that's really expensive and because of the cost of these carbon ceramics uh the truth is that a lot of porsche guys and there's a lot more track related porsche guys than the cts-v crowd yeah sorry you guys just love your straight line very few cts-v owners out there getting out to the road course where that car really belongs but anyway uh porsche people tell you because they go through a lot of brakes and they put a lot of wear on their rotors they don't think it's worth having carbon ceramics even though they're great for the track it's just not worth it for a die-hard track user uh because of the replacement cost so keep that in mind uh with that being said 99.9 percent of you ct 5v blackwing owners are probably not going to the track very often and if you are it's not enough to matter so go ahead and get those carbon surroundings if that's what you want but just so you know there is a small advantage to having steel rotors uh for you track people now i also want to talk about another really bad thing about these carbon ceramic rotors is that remember they're expensive but they also can get damaged easily and when they get damaged guess what you gotta replace them you take your car to go get your flat fixed at some luben tune and the you know guy takes the wheel off and drops a little bit and catches the carbon ceramic rotor with the rim and chips it like in this picture yeah folks that has hurt the integrity of the brake rotor and you're gonna have to replace that 2 or three thousand dollar rotor because they well actually they should replace it right but it's just something you gotta deal with also i've heard the story is that maybe a rock gets lodged between the pad and the rotor and it scratches up the rotor again compromising its integrity and that's always a possibility so uh this is a hundred thousand dollar cadillac folks so big money get ready for big money repairs if you choose these options and you know i just bought a porsche i didn't opt for those carbon ceramics because i was kind of worried about those costs that might come up plus they didn't come with red brake calipers which is exactly what i want on my cadillac i love red rotors always have so let's check these out yeah it looks nice all right got the v logo on there uh but let's take a look blue looks really good with this color the gray the blue calipers yeah they look really good bronze uh maybe not maybe how would that look with the bronze wheels let's uh take a look all right bronze wheels bronze rotors ah it's kind of giving me subaru vibes you guys all right uh let's get back to my graphites with red brake calipers yeah that's that's just me folks all right black lug nuts look at those silver dots we need black lug nuts 240 dollars and of course need to lock up those very expensive forged wheels uh i like sun roofs even though mine is creaking on my v sport really annoying but i still love sunroofs okay um black mirror caps that's an interesting element all right so we're talking about this it's normally painted do you want it black it kind of makes it blend in especially if you get tinted black windows uh with the black mirror it's kind of cool kind of a cool look i think i'm gonna go without this time and maybe there'll be a carbon fiber mirror cap in the future if you want to add to that carbon fiber package uh front license plate bracket hell no hands-free deck lead release okay if i do this i have to get rid of my carbon fiber two package not gonna do it never mind uh all right lastly safety enhanced automatic braking that's already there reverse automatic braking that was all in a package we picked next step interior so we thought we already did interior right with the seats that was just the seats i don't know why they've set that up front maybe because it kind of lines up some other options but let's take a look at this all right so uh we talked about that there were these standard seats initially uh and we upgraded to these let's go back to those performance bucket seats again just to see what those look like yeah okay so we like these these are way better now when i go back to this though they have erased my previous settings so now i'm going to go back to my trims and i gotta go back to colors there we go and pick my seats again okay now we're good there back to the interior back to our high price of 108 thousand two hundred dollars excellent um sueded microfiber wrapped interior package now just so you know this is not the sueded steering wheel and shift knob this is other stuff like the headliner headliner does not come sueded like it did on the v3 this is an option you got to pick or it comes with the seats actually when you buy those six thousand dollar seats sun visors are our suede or alcantara sunroof shade uh in window pillars all the window pillars uh fun fact on the ats sorry we're to ct 4 v black wing now the c pillar will never get sueded is what i hear from cadillac because they just said it doesn't look good there okay we'll check that out in the ct4 video uh this includes sueded microfiber accents on the door trim now i'm not quite sure what they mean let's take a look at the door trim here i can't quite see in this picture where that's gonna be uh and maybe i will ask uh the performance variant manager about that and he can tell me i'll post any later questions that i get answers to in the comments section so make sure you read uh the comments and the description i'll post all there so you can uh we can clarify these questions we have okay all right uh torch red seat belt color this is for my buddy pit slave on instagram who has a beautiful cts-v he wants to change his v3 seatbelts uh now seat belt colors are available and also the v-group from sacramento apparently they had a run in with some i don't know an audi driver or something talking about his colored seat belts well guess what v people you get colored seat belts now you get either these red ones or you get natural tan which you have to switch the seats to the natural tan option which looks classy but it's not my thing so i'm going to go back to torch red seats and let me guess it's going to mess up my seat selection yep all right let's go back to colors seats seats i want yes uh now you've got a seat back organizer well i'm not uh shuffling my boss around in the back of my car so i don't think i need that i don't what are you gonna put in there multiple pockets magnetic clothes doors materials and fixed locations yeah that's what organizers do i don't know not for me maybe for kids but i don't want kids in the background and plus you're going to paint this thing on your carbon fiber seats i don't even think you can honestly let's see what happens huh i guess you can add it um i'm gonna ask about that too seat back organizers can you hang on the carbon fiber seats gonna get rid of those i don't need that premium carpeted floor mats now this is something i'd go for you're gonna get this metal logo uh that looks really good in my opinion so i definitely want those only 225 bucks that's very reasonable for floor mats all weather mats for you people that have crappy seasons still alloy paddle shifters that's already included because you have the automatic transmission so we got the paddle shifters performance data and video recorder so this is the pdr and if you're not familiar with this it comes in the corvettes i think camaros and the last generation cts-vs as an option of course and basically it's a camera looking forward and it records your fun day at the track and also overlays data like your throttle your braking your speed your gear your rpms uh maybe your steering angle your g-forces it's really cool and then you can play it back and see where you screwed up on the track so the next time you go out and do a lap you can fix those mistakes and whatnot plus you get to save it all on an sd card and show your friends later and like the pdr that comes on the c8 corvette it works with cosworth toolbox driving analysis software so you take your sd card you hook up to your computer and now you can analyze all the data you get charts and graphs and you can do so much more with it than just reviewing it in your car not only that but the pdr can also be your valet cam ever worry about if the valet is taking your car for a joy ride or hitting say a parking curb with that expensive carbon fiber splitter yeah now you got a valet cam or just a general dash cam and i think that's a really cool feature does say sd card required so guess you got to buy your own all right we're going to select that sixteen hundred dollars super cool option i love it um i decided not to get in my porsche because to get it i would have had to pay like almost three thousand dollars so 1600 bucks is a good deal i'd say all right uh collapsible cargo organizer man i might get that stuff later cargo net is nice i'll throw that in okay that's just me uh and uh all this stuff uh no i don't think we need to worry about that all right next step summary we're almost done folks take a look all right so here's our summary it's a car that's base price of about eighty four thousand we've decked it out to a hundred and ten thousand five hundred i think the most you could deck out of v3 was around 100 and 203 thousand so yeah this car is a little more expensive but you're getting some cool stuff like we optioned those uh really nice carbon fiber seats and one thing i didn't add in was the uh carbon fiber brakes we talked a lot about it but i didn't actually throw it in there so let's just toss them in and see how that looks 118 000 905. this puts the car a little more in line with some of the competition like the rs7 um the uh what c63 amg's i'm not too familiar with uh mercedes lately it's still a little less expensive of course than the porsches out there but this is a pretty badass car i have to say i know that some of you don't like the looks of it uh but i think it's seriously growing on a lot of you i see less and less complaints lately and more and more people switching over even people just getting the regular v which is kind of underwhelming in my opinion but this uh we're gonna see a lot of buyers i mean we've already seen a lot of v3 owners uh put their money down for it so let's take a look at our beautiful car yes and the interior now according to mirza gravovich in the uh he's the performance variant manager at cadillac he says there's a lot of things that they've put into this car both on the interior and exterior that come totally from cadillac's racing um experience and and they wanted to put that in here as well as giving you many options to really make this car your own so you don't always just have the same setup as some other v owner so i think that's that's really cool the car with these seats those brakes a lot of carbon fiber i mean it's definitely a higher level level car i think than the third generation so i'm looking forward to seeing it looking forward to driving at some point and no i'm not gonna be getting one right now uh you know the porsche in december maybe a house this year but uh maybe when these come out on the used market i might consider it for my next daily driver uh it would be a great car as a daily driver i'm not totally sold on the looks but i know it's going to grow on me and maybe if we lower it a little bit i just love lowering my cars and it just makes everything a little better so yeah folks that's it for configuring this ct5v blackwing i hope you're gonna get one if you are i'm so
