C7 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 - (Track) One Take

[Music] Wow hello everybody welcome to Road Atlanta and hello little rodent rack folks I'm writing a story for rodent tracks so if you don't have time to watch this video you can go to Road and track the link in the description reading the story then come back and watch the video later whatever you want since you're here now how about we just do the video now got it this is a Corvette zr1 and those who have been hiding under a rock recently will not know but everyone else will this is the fastest loudest meanest most aggressive craziest Corvette ever made it has the all-new LT 5 supercharged engine which has a two point six five liter blower intercooled on top of a 6.2 liter small-block engine that has dual fuel systems it has the D Fi and then it also has the port injection 755 horsepower 715 pound - torch and those are apparently worst case numbers so on a cool in ideal conditions in theory it will make even more than that up to 800 they say I just did grants more with manual having driven a couple of sessions in CR one so far I went with the auto this car as you will see is so fast it's actually very difficult to keep up with the manuals visually the cr1 is separated by a completely new front clip everything in front of the windshield is brand new the quarters the hood the the front fascia and all but the front fascia are carbon fiber it also has a new front lip with an upside-down actual airfoil underneath it to suck that front into the ground it's balanced with that huge carbon fiber wing in the back carbon fiber wing is about threw the body onto the rear bumper so it actually doesn't open with the trunk making a kind of annoying to load and unload things but race car so that's that but besides that you get the full suite of zr1 of Corvette luxury features you get the good radio I got a cooled seat happening right now this car has the most use of carbon fiber in any Corvette ever any so let's let's quit the jabber in the Ameren and let's go to performance performance attraction sport one which i think is my favorite mode for the track of this car I messed it up performance sport one and here we go let's hit the track this is the 8-speed automatic and as I said when I drove that Callaway Aero wagon thing I like it when you're going fast I like it when you're going slow I don't like it I don't like it in 5/10 what where do you see this a racetrack here we go this is the loudest Corvettes ever made these tires are very cold [Music] ever made it's so loud it has the loudest idle I think I've ever it has 6-piston there's a lot more to this car that's simply putting a bigger blower on the zo6 there's a lot of we all know what happened with the co 6 and overheating right they're everywhere err to get in that's not a good description but they showed susi of D drawings and air holes around the car and it gets them [Music] and as the magnetic ride dampers horse which is something that really they work Moe averaged in two directions they actually hit like 214 and one direction which is it's making my 50 pounds of downforce which is [Music] oddly her name is excellent leave it on the street high quality sex I was shocked you know 750 horsepower sports cars that I can grocery store drive cross-country pretty soon you're not not sure I have the balls for more I think that's all I got I think visually I can't maybe the court later this without you teddy wall talking me the car goes faster than I can fake it's it's really quite something [Music] the power is so crazy but not as crazy as the brakes the brakes are crazier than the and there's so much of the stick so much grip this thing will do one point there's two different arrow package little arrow and big arrow be here what in this car and s's vanish Wow 128 of the shortest Street water 28 is faster than I see mx-5 Cup on the long straight and I just did it on the short side taller than the so you have this monster hood but get this the monster isn't really a woman to me that's the ancients sticking up out of the hood and you Rizzoli folder it's hilarious if the shaker hood was a national shame that much but it's a shaker what me guys cars are faster than we can think now please watch what happens when I go these asses I'm just gonna squirt it flat after the rain just go hurt and now I have to break at the end oh yeah oh wait it's three thousand five hundred and eighty pounds so it's not super super light all thousand pounds later than a hellcat and nights : 48 inch Wow testing these guys sucked a full tank dry on the Autobahn they drove up in Michigan Michelin action makes a snow tire for this car how badass would that be this thing on snows in the winter it turns it I told you I actually prefer the auto on the track because I have a lot more comfortable being able to have both my hands on the wheel so I'm driving moto if I was in a bike mistake mistake on the streets lovely good keep up with our this faster to say can do well on it baby Wow 30 was close here get down third there we go all right now understood let you listen to the sound I'm gonna shut up and I'm gonna do all this video [Music] swak am what is the science there what is this sorcery okay wow wow wow wow wow wow okay so with the exception of the automatic gearbox hiccup there the dealership so with the exception of that hiccup spectacularly fast car it doesn't even he said that during their development testing they went to vir with the goal of running the car for 24 hours straight hard right just change fuel and tires 24 hours driving in doing that they accidentally beat the 4 GTS time at vir they didn't even on purpose just like aimed lapping and like somewhere in the middle of their session like that's badass like so this car is actually quicker than the Ford GT around a racetrack now I personally feel that I could drive the Ford GT quicker than I could drive this me being let's call me a club racer level driver average not amazing okay pretty pretty decent but not amazing this is so much car like they need to stop because like I don't think normal people can't drive this because you can it's very easy to drive but this is a very very scary intimidating car if you don't know now it does have ways to allow you to work up with the PTM and those technologies do work but this is incredibly intimidating farm and it's the capabilities of it are extraordinary in most cases the limitation will be driver but thank you to General Motors for flying me out here putting me up in a hotel feeding me and This might be the golden age of sports cars. 10 years ago 505hp C6 was crazy and look where we are now.

But to really appreciate the ZR1, go back and watch my Grand Sport video from Friday again, first. Even if you just watch one lap around the track, to get a sense of what a normal fast car looks like on track compared to ZR1. ZR1 looks like fast forward.

/u/thesmokingtire Matt, you look like you had an absolute blast driving that thing on track and the driving looked seriously quick even though you weren’t giving it 100%. Would you rate the ZR1 as one of your favourite on-track vehicles? What cars feel better to you? And most importantly.... ZR1 or ACR?

It is unbelievable how brutal the acceleration is in this car. Matt pointed out how quickly it made the S-curves disappear and he was not exaggerating. Here’s a video of Randy Probst in an E36 taking those same turns. The difference is....drastic lol

I like the videos where Matt clearly enjoys the car. The increased enthusiasm, the better and faster driving make videos so much better. I prefer these periodic OTs with cars he actually wants to drive, instead of some kid's modded Mazda.

This thing looks amazing on the track but I not sure why Doug found the ZR1 so uncomfortable on the street while Matt mentions that it's remarkably comfortable. Oh well, different strokes I guess...

For 98% of One Takes the exterior shots never look as fast as they do from the dash.
