byd and mg recently announced pricing and availability of the dolphin and mg4 both are so close in price and features which one do you choose and which one should you definitely avoid find out in this video these two compact SUVs are significant because the lower trim level versions are priced in a budget-friendly segment of the market around that forty thousand dollar price point and so whilst these prices are without taxes and delivery fees maybe just add about a lazy three grand or so Most states and territories except for Victoria from July 1 have a three thousand dollar EB incentive program or if you're fortunate enough and live in Queensland a six thousand dollar rebate these cards are game changers so if you could afford a mid to high 35 000 car you'll be mad to go for petrol or diesel so let's compare these two cars across 20 different aspects and I'll give you my best guidance on which car is s value biggest bang for your buck and which one to definitely avoid first up size both of these compact SUVs are nearly identical it's almost like both design teams were going to play a game of hey what do you think byd is doing what do you think mg is doing the remarkable I mean compare these Dimensions side by side in particular wheelbase of 2700 versus 2705 for the mg4 so I can't give a point to one or the other unless you're looking for cargo carrying capacity in which case the byd dolphin wins with an additional 133 liters of additional space compared to the mg4 next up both carried five passengers and come in in a variety of colors namely seven for the mg4 but most actually cost 700 extra whereas byd they're free but limited to four different color choices in each variant so I'll get this one to pyd because who doesn't like free in terms of electrical motors and performance this is where it gets difficult as both cars have good bits and not so good bits and interestingly one of them is throttle down a bit the byd Dolphins Power Ranges anywhere between 70 to 150 kilowatts whereas the mg form is 125 to 180. torque coming in at 180 to 310 and 250 across the mg4 lineup there's clearly a brand leader here with mg offering overall better specs if you're a speed demon I would definitely avoid the dynamic dolphin as it's zero to 100 time is a snail's pace of 12.3 seconds you could upload the sport version out in 2024 and that will give you a time of well byd aren't really same less than seven seconds moving over to the mg4 what with its different car weights due to battery size and additional features acceleration times vary from 7.9 down to 6.5 seconds so if that is something that you're looking for and you're wanting to pay an additional six thousand dollars the mg4 long range is your car points to mg for its power and performance and the byd Dolphins form for its torque which is actually something you'll most likely feel when you put the pedal to the metal pairing these two cars are decent sized batteries the dolphin has my tick being a byd blade lithium iron phosphate type which means more recharging cycles and sudden forget charging experience these batteries like getting charged at 100 and that's important as you'll soon learn the mg451x site is also an lfp battery but the other versions namely the 64 excite Essence and long range are nickel manganese Cobalt meaning the energy dense lithium-ion battery types are on a daily basis would rather be charged to 80 or 90 compared to 100 within lithium-ion phosphate version so which battery type do you choose comes down to the type of daily driving you do the Dolphin's battery sizes are smaller than the md4s but can be charged to 100 every day the range in wltp could be what you get if you're not too heavy on the pedal and many drive around urban areas shift that too let's go and many freeway driving your range would definitely be reduced to around 20 on these figures meaning this is what most drivers can expect clearly the mg4 is still winning out but remember only the 51x site gets the lrp battery type which you can charge 100 for every day so unless you're prepared to potentially decrease your battery's Life by charging these nmc batteries to 100 percent you have to accept that these models prefer to actually be charged to only 90 meaning your range is further reduced again so this is how much you're going to be getting not so simple right based upon battery type and range what would I choose simple the dolphin sport for Easy Living but there will be times when you might want to do a road trip and want to charge the mg4 long range to 100 full which sometimes is okay so there's nearly 100 extra kilometers plus better performance gets my tick what would you choose comment down below before we get to the end next up charging and here there is no contest the mg4 blows that byd dolphin away sure the onboard Chargers match but DC fast charging there's enough of a bump in power therefore speed of being able to recharge it quickly so mg wins this one let's do a quick fire round where both cars are basically the same Android auto enable carplay tick remote app tick 360 degree cameras and six-way adjustable seat tick kind of the mg4 excite trims don't have the extra cameras and the seats are manual so so in that byd both cars have touch screen infotainment systems but the byd is bigger and has this party trick Plus reviews suggest that it's not as laggy as the mg4 both have a vehicle to load which means you can power devices on a glamping trip or picnic say nice however the dolphin can handle high power devices like running a kettle whilst making some toast at the same time watching TV yes that's a power vehicle with the light folks now we're getting to the end of this video but before I finish can you please subscribe because it means that I can keep doing reviews like this and work with car companies like byd 803 review out soon as well as mg okay service intervals and costs and boy I'm still aghast at how expensive both of them are the mg4 needs to be serviced every two years costing 412 dollars the byd dolphin requires servicing every year and each one might be more or less the same maybe more more expensive so for comparison's sake I average the cost and arrived at 277 a year so for a fair fight every two years it's 554 dollars for the byd so by time byd mgy what are you changing in these Services engine oil spark plugs timing belts what there's there's the battery there's a simple motor and one gear and about all 60 moving Parts in total nothing compared to the thousands of a typical petrol or diesel car so stop gouging motorists through these servicing costs anyway I reluctantly have to give this tick to mg for surfacing and finally warranty and is a split here with the fine print being your enemy the byd dolphin has a vehicle warranty of six years or 150 000 kilometers and that's pretty good but the mg4 is better at seven years unlimited kilometers as for the high voltage battery ayd offers an 8 year versus seven year warranty but again mg is unlimited so if you do lots of kilometers mg is your current choice except if you plan on buying it for business purposes in which case ask mg what the fine print is because well I couldn't locate it okay we need to decide on a Victor and will it be byd dolphin or the md4 could have gone with a simple comparison by using cost per kilowatt hour which makes the mg4 a better choice or I could have used a price per range I get that most people shop on price first so as a dolphin Dynamic and premium at 100 cheaper than the equivalent mg4s the decision is easy but don't buy the dolphin dynamic because for an additional 100 again before on road cost folks you get more range faster charging and better warranty if you go with the mg4 excite however I would encourage buyers to actually stretch out of that entry level and into the second tier as both cars then give you at least decent range which most Aussies can live with for a working week and if you're shopping in this price range I would go for the byd premium as you get better interior with electric seats 360 degree cameras higher vehicle to load more cargo space and similar range to the mg4 if your budget extends to the top level and you want range and better warranty go for the mg4 long range otherwise the byd dolphin sport is probably better value what do you think did I get it right what metric do you use to compare car to car I gotta say that no matter what you choose these two compact SUVs are a game changer for Australia they cost around the same as a petrol or diesel car that's been specced up think Toyota Corolla you know one of the premium ones yeah but the running costs will be one quarter to one-fifth of the petrol diesel versions and you'll be mad not to buy the mg4 or dolphin alright if you've enjoyed this video please do consider subscribing and you'll be good and you'll be agreeing thank you
