I'm going to share with you the top five things to look for when buying a used motorhome and we're starting right now okay so everybody knows buying a used motorhome can save you thousands of dollars not only that if this is your first time buying a Motorhome you want to buy used one just to test the waters to see if it's the lifestyle that you like to live and again I'm sharing with you the top five things you want to look for when buying a used motorhome and if you have any tips that you recommend that did not make this list make sure you leave them in the comments below first thing one of the most important things is price how do you know what to pay for a used motorhome and how not to pay too much nad a.com which is the Kelley Blue Book for RV once you're on the main page you want to go up and click the RV tab don't add any options whatsoever a lot of times when you'll see people is trying to sell their own RVs they'll add all these options which jacks the price way up don't do that the dealerships don't do that so you shouldn't the only option you might want to add is the mileage and you only want to add that for gas not a diesel click value and there's your value now it's showing you three prices low retail and high retail you almost never want to pay high retail only if it's in amazing condition and only if you're buying it from a dealership which is backing it with a warranty but if you're buying it from a third party or somebody personally you want to make sure you pay somewhere between low retail and average retail now real quick if somebody's selling it below low retail and I'm talking way below watch out for that that might be a scam I have a video about how to spot scams on Craigslist and I'll have a link to that video in the description you want to check to see how many miles is on the engine for a gas motorhome you want it to have low miles also you want to check the generator typically a generator can last around 3,000 hours it needs to be rebuilt now for a diesel Motorhome low miles is not always a good thing it depends on what year it is if it's on an older model and it has very very low miles that might not be a good thing that's definitely a red flag because the one thing you don't want to do you don't want the diesel engines to be sitting there so the diesel fuel sludge is up that can be very very costly down the road if somebody didn't maintain their diesel engine well next is water damage both inside and out when you walk inside an RV that has water damage a lot of times you can tell right away just based off the smell it smells musty but you want to walk around see if you can feel any soft spots in the floor you want to look around the cabinetry around the seams and everything to see if you feel see any soft spots or water damage also when you're inspecting the outside you want to look for what's called delamination that's when the fiberglass sidewalls start to separate it's very very hard to fix very expensive in something in my honest opinion you just want to stay away from one more thing you want to do is climb up on the roof help me they did a good job recaulking their roof every year water damage can be a huge killer for RVs so it's really important that you know the signs to look for I have a video how to spot a lemon when buying a used RV I'll leave a link to that video in the description below also I'll have that at the end of this video next is to check the tires now these tires are different than car tires they can be very very expensive to replace so what to look for you want to make sure that they have good tread on them also you want to see how old they are and how you do that is right here there's a bore digit code that's the d-o-t number and this says three three one five which means this tire was made in the 33rd week of 2015 so even though these tires look good and they have plenty of tread on them there's still three years old so you might want to think about how much replacing these tires would be and figure that with the adjustment of how much you want to pay for the RV next is as is where is how it's those are three phrases you really want to be cautious of because when a dealership that's your troll for red flag I say stay away from it boy you can get a great unit for a great price if you're handy and you know how to fix things up finally the most important thing especially if you're a first-time buyer is what's called the fly and drive program now a lot of the big dealerships don't sell they do this program where they buy you a plane ticket you fly in and then you drive home with your new motor home and they're targeting first-time buyers because the first-time buyers don't know what to do because it's their first time buying an RV so I'm not saying it's a trick or a scam here's what I'm saying what happens a lot of times they'll get you down there they'll make you do paperwork and then you do the demo in orientation where they show you how to use the RV what I'm saying is before you sign any paperwork do your full demo and orientation first tell them you want to see the unit you want to be in the unit anything wrong get that taken care of before you sign anything if they're willing to do that and everything looks good and then you do the paperwork so hey guess what you got a great pre-owned Motorhome that you couldn't get from around home but if they won't let you do that trust me I know you bought a one-way ticket it will be worth the extra couple hundred dollars to buy it take it back because they're hiding something and it can end up costing you thousands of dollars in the long run great so finishing up with that here's the question of the day have you participated in a fly and drive program or have you out of state to purchase a used motorhome if you have leave a comment below and tell everybody what your experience was thanks so much for watching this video if you found it
