what's up everyone we're building a studio desk it's gonna be awesome cue the music [Music] so we're gonna get right into it here [Music] we're doing is we are taking the jigsaw and cutting just barely close to that line that when we'll take it to the router later to clean up all the lines with straight edges so there's the table saw look at just pick up the speed now i'm cutting real fast if you're on a jigsaw that cuts this fast then uh you're missing out because this jigsaw is so fast now we're taking some small little pieces of scrap i'm just using some pin nails these are 23 gauge pin nails and another scrap piece we're using straight edges as reference guides for the router with a flush trim bit to get our all of our edges nice and clean i'll go fast it is again just take the router zip it up now our edges are nice and clean and you don't have to worry about trying to get that with a jigsaw [Music] see all that dust floating in the air i think i'm gonna put a mask on and this is why you wanna mask in a small shop because you just don't have the dust collection capability and cleaning unless you spend some extra money on that chiseling here is just to get that 90 degree angle which you can see you don't get to see the whole process but it is going to be a 90 degree angle and it's going to be all edge banded which is definitely a fun process if you've never done the inside corner before using the dowel jig just to do a quick couple dowels this will be for the front works platform of the desk we had to cut some 10 degree belt or blocks here for the front beveled edge to drill those dowels at an angle now we're just chamfering some quick edges and using a flush trim bit now to cut out a bunch of pieces exactly the same shape using it the first cut as a template you can see there it lines up pretty good and here we are just cleaning up the angled part on that last shot you saw just make sure everything is exactly perfect take over some solid birch over to the chop saw where we are going to turn these into the main table mounts which the legs get mounted to on later some jointing action for you jointers are definitely a good tool to have but not entirely necessary all the time there's ways to get around using them but it just makes the job a lot smoother and quicker to use one now this is what i call the i o i o i o method and all it does is i make sure that the faces that you did on the joiner are going to make you have a nice flat board there's lots of tutorials showing how to do that so i won't explain it exactly doing some glue ups a good buddy of mine made me up these little glue scrapers which work phenomenal and you definitely makes it a lot easier for doing your glutes spreading your glue around without getting your hands all dirty throw these in some quick clamps now this is me just trying to attempt to figure out exactly how to carry this thing around and put it on you can see there's the front part of it was held with some pocket screws as well as dowels and glue to make it nice and sturdy and sits on here just pretty i'm getting closer to seeing what the finished product is well it's coming along good just a little bit of finishing up tomorrow and all these champions edges around the whole thing bunch of edge bending over and over and over again [Music] moving along quickly to mark along all the angles for the legs using measurements i find i can use compasses and stuff like that but it's not generally as accurate as i would like so i just use measurements now we're just cutting everything out just like the jigsaw where you give a little bit of extra space between the line and use the router to clean it all up this is what i do i don't have a very long router bit so i'll use a straight edge to clean up most of it and i'll bring it over to the router table and use a router table to clean up the other half [Music] so now we're just using a craig pocket hole jig and all this is for is once we get the table mounted onto it we just use the pocket holes to hold the table top in place it's not really structural or anything just to hold it there got my brother-in-law andrew helping me out today doing the edge banding he's doing he's doing a good job [Music] now there's lots of ways to cut edge banning off but this has to be my favorite i find it's just way less risky using a file than using one of those nice cutters that goes quickly i've had so many times where i use windows cutters and the second you start going it grabs some grain and just tears a big chunk of the edge banding it's just not worth it in my opinion [Music] now this is where you're going to watch me sit there in headband forever because there's so much edumating on here i should really invest into a proper edge vending machine instead of using an iron all the time but it works and it's cheap so it's a good definitely good way to go for anybody else that wants to do that [Music] oh my beloved sanding how i love sanding so so much if you don't love sanding then you don't know what it's like to be a woodworker it's literally the best part you stand there for a long time with the constant noise and work of just moving things on other things so it turns out better than it was before it's such a process that i'm sure everybody including yourself just loves so much like it doesn't look fun just sitting there and sanding all day so now we're just countersinking some of the holes so the screws heads don't stick out we're using a forstner bit for that they make special tools for it but i don't always find them necessarily necessary and now what we're doing is just quickly laying out and when we're tip we set it up on the edge where we want it tip it over and then we're going to use some green painters tape just to tape off the section that we do know when he gets stained on because i'll put some glue in there [Music] so we just moved all the pieces indoors away from the dust in the shop because we're going to clean them quickly with some mineral spirits and let that dry off before we start staining and finishing this i find this is a really important spot your finish just turns out way better if you never use rubio monaco before it's a great product you get your staining and your finishing done and once in one go it is expensive but i find that it just saves so much time that it's worth an extra price just buff it all in and then let it sit for five minutes and wipe it off until it's dry and you are completely finished here's where you can see that where that tape just stopped the stain from setting in allowing us to put some glue there and use a pocket screw to hold it in place and it's coming along great so far it's all stained it doesn't need to be re-sanded it's really great we're quickly mounting test mounting the keyboard slides and then pre-drilling the holes so we don't have to be laying on the floor trying to do that at a later time [Music] now we're going to be installing this at a customer's house so first thing i want to do instead of trying to figure out where dead center is we just figure that out here put a little mark in the center and i'm lining them up [Music] here we are at the customer's place they were kind enough to let us set up some cameras and some lights get some shots this is just a quick little time lapse of assembly process we put together the legs because it's on powered legs we're not making them for this project which is why we need the mounts that were the proper size and space apart there we go put that piece on and at this point we're getting close to done and since we lined all this up at home prior to this everything just goes nice and quick straight into their mounting brackets using pocket screws we start to put the walls for the rack spaces up or the sides for the rack spaces up i should say i didn't want to do this part at home because if these got bumped or banged during transport it would drastically uh change how the whole day was planned out so we figured just do it at the customer's house and make sure that it goes nice and smooth assembled one time it doesn't get banged now we're just using the top panel to do the final lining up the final pieces [Music] and start to mount the racks so we're just eyeballing the first set of racks here that way we can find a good spot for it and then just reference everything else off of that [Music] once again we're just using the 23 gauge pin nailer and that's just going to be the whole attack on this top section because it's not structural all it is there is for is to maybe set a computer monitor on so as long as nobody lifts up on it you're not going to pull those pin nails out now this section here is just really how fast i move and work it's not time lapsed it's not faster it's not sped up sometimes my voice gets a lot higher as i work because i'm going so fast and i have to slow down every once in a while for these sections just to make sure that i don't screw anything up which apparently i did so this is a powered setup like i mentioned before you can allow him to either sit down or stand up have like hydraulics and stuff [Music] wow that's way too high but i guess you could be standing when you're yeah whoa no no way does it what oh my gosh it's gonna come out the plug dude stop stop oh that's crazy crazy it just collapses that's crazy that's like the height of a person wow and now that i almost broke their uh their power plug let's uh let's put stuff in it so we're putting everything we're starting to put all of the recording gear and studio equipment into it just to see make sure everything fits because you know it would be really bad if it didn't but it's getting closer it's looking pretty good everything sits nice and flush with the top which is the whole purpose of this build it's all organized and just dandy has some space for cords put your headphones in through that little gap in the front i think they're gonna be really happy with this so that's everything stay tuned for next time don't forget to like and subscribe we'll see you again you
