[Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] i'm pretty good you know the wheel's gonna be right here should work out perfectly with the wide body players we're going with it's gonna be sticking out like right towards yeah probably like right here that's cool it's pretty wide what's going on guys welcome back to the channel in today's video we're gonna be back to work on our 66 ford mustang as you guys seen in the previous episode we did pretty much get the front subframe on we did receive these from we see parts they hooked us up with a full complete setup and now we're pretty much moving along pretty good we got the front side frame lined up right here pretty much all we did was we lined it up perfectly with the bottom of the car exactly how it should be and i did actually do a lot of research and that's exactly how we're going to do it so pretty much what i want to do in today's video is go ahead and start lining up the rear subframe get the body perfectly in the center and then we can actually start building the frame the rear subframe is pretty much just sitting in the back of the car and what i want to do right now is go ahead and basically just cut up cut up more of these little one inch square tubes and pretty much set it up perfectly we're going to level it up exactly perfect with the front subframe and then after that we need to go to the steel store grab a couple of steel beams and we can start building the side rails right here and then we can actually start i'm still not sure how we're gonna connect the actual subframe to the frame i'm thinking possibly do it with tubes but we're not sure yet the first thing we're gonna go ahead and do is pretty much remove this backing panel right here just so we have more access to go ahead and set up that subframe exactly at what height we needed [Music] [Music] to [Music] [Applause] wow [Music] [Applause] [Applause] wow so we finally got this sub frame all nice and mocked up check it out we kind of just tack welded these bottoms in for now and then we went ahead and centered the subframe on this uh device that we built right here and check it out i also made it to be able to be slid forward and backwards because we're still not 100 certain exactly where we want to put the wheel base but check that out it's nice and sturdy and we're pretty much just slowly working this thing and it's coming along pretty good it's a lot better than last time now we have the subframe perfectly mounted it's not like moving around on blocks like we had last time on the other mustang so now that we have that rigged up i want to go ahead and get the suspensions on and we'll probably also build another brace for it so we can put the spindles in the perfect area and then after we're done in the rear we'll go ahead and start working on them in the front we pretty much have everything nice and lined up in the back we went ahead and put these control arms on and we're gonna go ahead and leave it at that now what we're gonna do is go ahead and do the same exact thing in the front start setting up all the front suspension points and then we're actually gonna start measuring all the distances so check out the front guys it's basically the same exact thing we did in the back we did it in the last episode now that we pretty much have everything set up and almost lined up now what we need to do is go grab some new frame rails we will actually use some of the frame rails from that mustang over there but we do need a lot of redesigning on it so let's go grab some steel and be right back so it's the next day here at the shop we actually got back from the steel store in the last part we did get these new frame rails right here and i kind of just set them on top of this new subframe that we have right here and just through them lengthwise now what we need to do is start working on the suspension setup points this is gonna be pretty simple all we need to do is build a bracket that goes simply just like that four bolts and this thing will be bolted on and i did i was actually messing around with the plasma cable the other day i actually cut out this plate right here and this is basically just gonna go just like that i kind of messed up the measurements so i got to redo it i was kind of just late at night i was testing some stuff out and pretty much that's just gonna get welded just like that onto there and then we'll drill some holes and pretty much all these control arms will be perfectly mounted to the frame and then we'll also add gussets we will go with a little bit thicker metal we did also get some more of that and then bam just like that sets it all up the suspension points will be mounted perfectly to the frame here's a piece of metal we're actually going to be using for our control arm mounting points and we are going to be using our arc one cnc table from the guys over at arc one we really haven't been using it lately because we have been working on our mclaren and some other builds but now we're back and ready to start building this custom mustang so we're gonna go ahead and use it and i do have most of the dimensions in the computer we're gonna go ahead and do a little bit of adjustments and cut the piece out [Music] this [Music] [Music] so check that out guys we got the first one cut out and check out those cuts nice and perfect there there's a little bit of cleanup work that's going to have to be done but this is some pretty thick metal now i want to show you guys how we're going to clamp it on there pretty much just like that right there and grab this clamp we have the first suspension bracket mocked up on the car i think it actually might need to go a little bit higher i think we might weld this to the top of here and then after we got the suspension on there pretty much all we do is add the shock on there and the whole entire suspension setup is done it's a lot simpler than the mustang suspension which has the big old strut and it has all kinds of weird movements and stuff like that bam we pretty much have that on there now i want to go ahead and get the other one and clamp the other side on [Music] so check it out we got both sides clamped on and man these brackets turned out pretty awesome and we will once we actually get everything set up in position we'll probably cut another one of these out with just without the hole and then put it on this side and box everything in and make it really strong and the reason why we went ahead and made these brackets is so we can get the suspension perfectly lined up straight because we will be doing the wheelbase here soon once we actually start working on the frame you get both wheel bases perfect so we have the perfect dimensions for everything and make this car drive perfectly straight front suspension setup is pretty much mocked up and almost ready to weld together and i'm thinking two three more episodes we'll have this thing on the road or on the ground actually and ready to roll because we still have to order our we're gonna this thing does come with leaf springs the original corvette so we are going to convert it just to coilovers i think they actually sell kits it literally bolts up right there and simply goes through there now we pretty much know exactly how the front suspension is going to go i actually want to go ahead and remove these dowel pins right here this one's actually almost coming off i'm going to pop that one out we're going to slide this frame a bit forward because right now what we're going to do is go ahead and cut the distance exactly how far we need it so let's remove these things and slide these rails forward [Music] we got the front dowel pins removed now pretty much all we need to do is take this clamp off right here move this forward and we're going to measure out exactly how far back we need to cut these rails and get them cut and then we'll start figuring out a way how we're going to attach them to the body of the car [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so guys check out the front rails they're finally cut that's exactly how they need to be and we also left a good amount of space up here we actually measured on the fender let's grab it right here and i pretty much just measured it out so there's enough room in the front for all the radiators and everything like that as you can see that's going gonna line up perfectly right there so we're gonna have area for all the radiators and all the cooling and the condensers and everything just like that so pretty much the front section of the frame is basically almost done we almost have to drill the holes and do that but we are still you know thinking we're doing a lot more brainstorming on this build this time instead of like last time we were kind of just cut well tacked but this time we're kind of like lining everything up mocking everything up making sure everything is perfect before we do any type of welding on the next episode we're actually going to continue building the frame i want to actually connect these right here we're going to cut this out of an angle and this is going to go completely down and the frame rail is actually going to come in here the other frame rail that we had on there i kind of like made it inside here but i cut off a piece and what i'm going to do this time is i want to trim some of this up so i get that nice 2x4 frame rail thickness and simply connect that to that and then go all the way back through there the rear section isn't going to be as hard to connect as the other subframe was this one's a little bit smaller it has better mounting points and then once we get all that mounted down we'll go ahead and start building our firewall and build everything up guys this build is coming along a lot better than last time we're doing a lot more thinking than last time i remember we were just kind of like cutting and welding because it was just kind of fun at that point but this time we want to do it right and actually put some more thought in it so the next episode we'll go ahead and connect the frame rails all the way back and then we have to start working on the rear suspension it's going to be a little bit harder to connect than the front as you can see we have control arms like this right here so what i'm thinking is i'm gonna grab some dlm steel tubing and run it in the back over here and then i'm gonna build brac or tabs that actually come off and drill a hole in the bracket and i can slide through there that's pretty much how like most race cars are built i think the unicorn uh mustang has it just like that so we'll probably do it over there just like that and then line all this up and now that we have the fro lined up once we get the rear lined up we can actually finalize the weld of the frame get both subframes in the perfect dimensions we need to get the wheelbase at 105 inches so we have both wheels perfectly in the wheel well so we don't have no problems later guys make sure you stay tuned on this mustang build and you guys seen earlier we did do some cutting with the plasma table we're going to start doing a lot more cutting and get a lot more custom parts made for this car but you guys were wondering about the mclaren right now it's kind of just the resting spot every time i get tired i kind of just come and sit down on it because we are still waiting on those filters i don't know what's going on with them because as you guys know with this pandemic they shut down a lot of factories and there's a really high supply or i guess there's a high demand for it and we can't get them right now i mean i think we put in an order for them but they're still not coming in but once that comes in we'll go ahead and paint it we pretty much have everything to put this car all back together we got our new windshield in check that out it's a little dusty right now we got our new windshield we got our wiring harness so pretty much we have everything to get this car done it's kind of just like the last part which is kind of the hardest and as you guys know we kind of take everything apart with this car and i think we might actually have an electrical issue the battery keeps dying on the car so i'm not too sure we'll probably have to take it down to a service tech and that's actually pretty hard to find or somebody that works on mclaren's so we'll probably be doing that soon but hopefully next month we'll get this thing painted and done so guys that's gonna be a wrap for today's video in the next video we're definitely gonna try to go ahead and get the whole frame connected welded up and maybe even paint it in so we can get this thing off this chassis right here and then we'll start with all the smaller stuff like building the firewall building all the front end parts and getting everything back together on the car and we're going to get a lot of more parts we're gonna have to get all the smaller stuff but we still do have a lot of parts from our old green mustang we have like all the doors and all these trims right here but if you enjoyed today's video go ahead and hit that subscribe button
