Build Update: Putting The Curved Glass In || Dr Decks

[Music] hey guys dr. Dex here it's raining yay no it's not that it's not raining that much that's what gloves aren't dripping away but alright today we are setting some regal ideas crystal rail and we have some coastal curved glass and I got a little secret to tell you I miss ordered my glass I'm short a piece so that's unfortunate but we have some other parts that need to come from the same supplier so from coastal curved glass so hopefully we can get those here pretty quick anyway if you like what you see today don't forget to click that subscribe button hit the bell icon if you want to be notified every time I'm putting out fresh content and don't forget to check out dr. decks masterclass learn everything you need to know about deck board bending all right here we go three one two and cinch on three wait a second let me snug one two how come some of these are like butter and others are not hey give me all you got on the bottom this one cinch on three - I think this is rain if you look at the lake ring this is rain showers I think is less rain than rain is yeah all right so we're having a little bit of an issue with our rail mounting screws I think we were shipped the wrong ones or something it happens so we're switching gears and we're gonna start tying in all this wire because it's just kind of hanging here we did this originally just to test everything make sure all the the rail the glass pods work now that we know everything works and everything's dry there's no leaks now we're going to do a final install on the cables so we have two lot of holes to drill a lot of paths to make and we have to take this and disassemble it and reassemble it so that's we're gonna do probably for the rest of day if you can try to put it up against something so that [Music] all right so when you're building these decks and there's some flat spaces on the deck to create these curves and to change directions of joists and do this whywould system you do a bladder over the top of that and then you do rubber butyl on top of that you still have to create a water dump and a water dump especially in our state where it rains a lot so I'm standing right behind it and it's basically a spot where I channeled out the bottom of the deck board which you can't see from here but the water actually travel is underneath the decking I found an ideal spot where I felt all the pitch and all the drainage would come to this one particular spot so this is always gonna drop a lot of water right here from this upper deck because I could not contain a hundred percent of it in the bladder system so what the water dump does there's four of them on this deck one of them it's not really operating right now because the water isn't getting a chance to receive it and most of its draining this way and draining this way so this one I put in in particular works really well I'm considering drilling a hole at the top of this water dump so that you could clean it out with a pipe cleaner or a brush or something in the future in case it gets clogged that would be my only concern is that this gets clogged but I built in some spacing between the fascia and the rim board which is actually a Zac so there's nothing to rot here which is great the inside of my deck is dry all my framing is dry but there's always gonna be this continual water path coming right off this upper deck so it's kind of important that you think about your path of at least if you get a lot of rain where that water is gonna go it rains a lot here we don't have so much the problem of icing and damming like you do on the East Coast mostly what we have is just a lot of wet weather so we don't have ice build up too much but we do have a lot of places where the water needs to escape so we didn't plan for this it could become catastrophic and our whole channel system would fill full of water and then that could become in cold weather could become an ice problem as well but right now I've checked this deck three times so far today and all the water is flowing off of the channels off the decks are dry into the bladder or into this designated water dump area awesome thanks for joining us on this really dry and sunny day we had today and wash in ton I appreciate you following along if you like what you saw you learned a little something about crystal relative how to wire it or how to run the wires or something that you may or may not use or if you just breathe air click that subscribe button don't forget to click the bell icon as well if you want to be notified every time we're putting out fresh content alright guys and if you want to learn how to do that swervy curvy really sweet looking deck board stuff you want to become a master heat bender like me you want to learn the art of deck board bending and learn how to use heat con silicone heating blankets sign up for dr. dicks master class alright that's all I got for you go green have a great day [Music]
