hello, welcome to NETVN In this video I show how to install Proxmox and build a Synology NAS server on it This is a desktop computer and 3 hard drives I install Proxmox on a solid state drive and the other two traditional hard drives to build a Synology NAS server I install Proxmox on a solid state drive and the other two traditional hard drives to build a Synology NAS server I used a USB drive and a laptop to create the Proxmox installer On a laptop running Windows 11 you visit the Proxmox homepage You download the latest Proxmox installer This is the file after it is downloaded, it has the extension iso This is the file after it is downloaded, it has the extension iso To create a bootable installer I recommend you to use software called Rufus This software is easy to use and requires no installation You just need to download, open it and use it without installing On Rufus, select the USB drive, then browse to the Proxmox installer you just downloaded earlier Rufus erases the data on the USB drive and creates a bootable Proxmox installer Rufus erases the data on the USB drive and creates a bootable Proxmox installer Installer is complete Next I connect the hard drives to the target computer The target computer has 3 hard drives in all, one solid state drive and two traditional hard drives After connecting the hard drives, I plugged the newly created Proxmox installer to the target computer In the UEFI BIOS you set up the target computer to boot from a USB drive I started installing Proxmox on the target computer Here is the list of hard drives, as mentioned in the previous step, I installed Proxmox on the solid state drive Next you set up the admin password and email address You then assign the Proxmox server a static ip address You use this ip address for remote access from another computer Next you set up the DNS address After setting the password, the ip address you start the installation The computer will restart automatically after completing the installation of Proxmox This is the ip address and port to access from other computers on the same local network On another Windows computer on the same network, I open any browser, in the address bar I enter the ip address of the Proxmox server and port 8006 On another Windows computer on the same network, I open any browser, in the address bar I enter the ip address of the Proxmox server and port 8006 Username is root You use the password set in the step before installing Proxmox Successful access At this point I have finished installing Proxmox on my computer Next I show you how to build a Synology NAS server on Proxmox You create a new virtual machine You name the virtual machine as you like Do not use any media You remove the default hard drive, because we use physical drives for the Synology NAS server You set the number of processors to 2 I recommend that you set the memory for this virtual machine to 4GB You to set the default network This is the newly created virtual machine, its identifier is 100 Currently it does not have a hard drive To create a Synology NAS virtual machine on Proxmox you use a bootloader called arpl You download the latest version of the Synology bootloader The bootloader for the Synology virtual machine on Proxmox has the extension img Before uploading to Proxmox server you unzip the downloaded file And here is the file after unzipped ISO images You upload the bootloader here You browse to the extracted file to upload it to the Proxmox server You can use WinSCP to upload this file The file is uploaded successfully, next you add it to the Synology virtual machine The file is uploaded successfully, next you add it to the Synology virtual machine You open the command window of the Proxmox server Next you use the command qm importdisk to add the newly uploaded image file to the virtual machine Next you use the command qm importdisk to add the newly uploaded image file to the virtual machine You use the virtual machine identifier to identify the virtual machine to which the image file is added Local lvm Next you set up the hardware of the virtual machine This is a newly added and unused hard drive Bus Device SATA Cache White Back So the virtual machine has a bootloader for Synology NAS And here are the traditional hard drives to store data for the Synology NAS server Find out how to add it to the virtual machine You open the command window and use the following commands You use the command ls -l to determine the identity of the hard drives on the Proxmox server We are only interested in the identifiers of two traditional hard drives with a size of 1 TB To add traditional hard drives to the virtual machine you use the command qm set In this case the identifier of the virtual machine is 100 The first traditional hard drive connects to the virtual machine using an interface called sata1 The first traditional hard drive connects to the virtual machine using an interface called sata1 The sata 0 interface is used to connect to the bootloader The second traditional hard drive connects to the virtual machine using an interface called sata 2 Different hard drives connect to the virtual machine using different interfaces You check the virtual machine hardware and you will see that it has 3 hard drives One bootloader and two traditional hard drives You set the boot order for the virtual machine The virtual machine boots from the bootloader Make sure the virtual machine starts up using sata 0 Next you start the virtual machine and start configuring the bootloader The virtual machine is assigned an ip address from the DHCP server The virtual machine is assigned an ip address from the DHCP server This is the ip address of this virtual machine, you use it to configure the remote bootloader You open any browser, enter the ip address of the virtual machine and port 7681 A Synology NAS bootloader configuration interface appears You choose a model in the list, here I choose DS3622xs+ Next you choose the operating system version for the Synology server I choose 42962 Each Synology NAS server has its own serial number, you create a new one I set up automatic serial generation Next you build a bootloader for what you choose It takes about 2 to 3 minutes to complete The bootloader has completed its configuration, you can start it Wait for a while to boot It has finished booting, you use the ip address and port 5000 to access the Synology NAS server Access is successful, you install the operating system for it It automatically downloads the operating system and installs Synology NAS will erase the data on the traditional drive and install DSM It takes about 10 minutes to complete. You come back in 10 minutes and here are the settings for the first boot You are required to create an admin account and name the Synology NAS server You disable automatic OS updates to make sure the bootloader works properly And here is the result, so I've finished showing you how to build a Synology NAS server on Proxmox Thank you for watching and don't forget to like and help me 600,000 subscribers Next you configure storage on the Synology server With two traditional hard drives I use RAID 1 to ensure data is safe These are two traditional hard drives and they are in normal state You then create shared folders to upload or download data I upload any file to make sure the NAS server is up and running Thank you for watching this far good luck File uploaded successfully
