so check it out there's the transmission all built up I should handle about 1200 horsepower now all right let's wash it first so here are the part numbers the right bestest kit with the choline clutches 1200 horsepower Summit shaft and then the sonax overrun clutch kit so tearing down the transmission is pretty straightforward you know I like to use my power tools here I'm using my Milwaukee powerful uh you know electric ratchet this one does about 225 foot-pounds I think it is it'll break off most bolts break them free it's it's really it really speeds up the whole process of taking things apart I have a weaker one for tightening up stuff uh when I don't want it to be torqued down too hot you know too high or something like that but this thing I love it my buddy Mike showed up he's helping me build my motor which I'll be making a video about that you know to make it 1200 horsepower rated also and we kind of just tore this whole thing down it's uh this all sped up of course but I know that you don't want to see how to tear it down but it just kind of shows like it's pretty straightforward tearing it down a lot of the bolts only go in one place and then you just pull it all apart you can watch videos there's a guy who does like a two hour video on disassembly and uh and and re rebuild of it I forget the name of it but it's it's really pretty good if you just Google you know 4L80E uh his you probably already watched his video anyway he does a great job of going an incredible depth of of how to build these things and and I I watch this video multiple times so it showed me how to you know change everything out how to do the bushings and how to do all the all the little the seals and all that stuff and it's you know it just really helps out anyway that's what I did you know tearing it down is pretty straightforward this is the valve body right here I've already just taken off this little cap part up there that's the only thing I've done so far and what we're going to do is we're going to drill out a little hole we're going to follow this sheet right here this uh sonax overrun kit it tells you step by step so you know I've done uh the step one I've removed the valve body of course since I broke down the transmission and I've disassembled those things and now I'm going to place the the valve body up here and start drilling out the stuff all right let's get this thing in here do not over drill foreign [Applause] the the bags aren't labeled like exactly what they are they're just part numbers which does nothing to somebody like me so let's put these together it looks like this spring goes here and here like this okay so install the O-ring onto the Sona short tube and then we Slide the spring in and then you have a little hole that kind of there's a little pinhole there orifice hole that lines up you can see that looks like there's a gasket in here yep looks like the gasket only goes on One Way Long tubes and short tubes and it shows you on the diagram which ones go where these directions are pretty pretty straightforward I wish it just had the part numbers for because they have the part numbers on the bag so it'd be like if you could put the part numbers on there that would kind of make it a little bit easier so we put these cap plugs on the side we're going to tap those in um not sure why they didn't do that from the factory but okay whatever I guess it's to help cut down cost here are some O-rings I'm gonna just set these in here for now now I'm not sure if the transgo setup is the same as this like if it's just an updated version I see a lot of people running the trans go but the aluminum plug through orifice and mushroom on both sides and that's what it should look like right there well now I see why they gave you two of them [Music] it's pretty well smoothed out and it says hit it with a center punch [Music] all right let's go uh let's wipe this thing off one more time and that stops this pump from going down too far there we go this bolt it's a 3 8 12 point now we're gonna put this beveled snap ring right here it's got a little bevel on it you'll see the bevel goes down you know so the high parts facing the outside of the transmission we put in our I think these are the intermediate clutches we get this funny little snap ring here kind of goes in down here these if you notice these were already soaked now we try to line these up a little bit and we put in this big plate here pretty straightforward only fits in one way we put in the other snap ring now this drive here I got this all assembled uh it's pretty straightforward clutches and and pop it back together change all your stuff this is what goes on this uh this is what's going to help make it rated for higher horsepower this is a 1200 horsepower shaft from Summit I'll put the link in the video and then the very bottom and I did not have the right snap ring on there so I took it all back apart and put the right one in there because they probably won't work probably you know there's probably somebody who's on here watching this who's does Transmissions just kind of like critiquing people give their little input on everybody's little stuff but this uh this one shows it as as the ring so I wanted to make sure I had them right and there we go it snapped on there right these uh these little seals right here these are Teflon ones they uh so the the you got to stretch them out to put them on there and then I saw a video or a picture where a guy used zip ties to kind of pull them tight and Shrink them down that really did help I pre-fitted these to fit on the pump so they'll make sure that they fit before you put all this together now this part goes in there in a little while I gotta still put some more stuff in there so let's go ahead and start doing that all right so just to be clear I probably took this transmission apart 10 times and put it back together because I forgot a part or didn't like the way it went together or whatever so this you know this looks like I just kind of took it apart and put it right back together this thing took me about a month I'm gonna be honest with you next time I'm probably gonna pay somebody because it was an absolute nightmare now I can take it apart completely and put it all back together in about an hour and a half so I am a lot faster there's a little ring right there see it so those are the bolts that go on the front of the pump and you do need to replace those Rings that's what makes it sealed so the first thing you want to do is degrease everything to kind of get all the oils like that the transmission fluid off of it because it is a trend I just built it so we got a little oil just like that and even though I cleaned it before it's just a good habit and after that you wash it all off blow it off with the hose here to kind of get it dry I used some lack of thinner and stuff to kind of get some of the oil out in place I couldn't get to very good and I scuffed it with a red scuff pad right here you'll see that's what I'm using it's around 400 grit if you're wondering what that is then I put some uh little stir sticks in those gaps just to kind of create that Gap mask it all off which is pretty straightforward you know it's uh it's pretty easy you can use tape you can use whatever you know like they say there's more than one way to skin a cat this is prep cleaner that I'm using prep cleaner is also known as waxing grease remover you want to clean every single inch of what you're doing because if you don't you'll see solvent pop or people call it fisheye fisheye is like an exaggerated version of Sullivan pop so as long as you clean it and you scuff it you're good to go so when I spray I use a turbine system which is a lot more efficient than a regular system but it just it's it has its limited uses uh here I use just a couple ounces of base coat in order to base coat the entire transmission after I well this is actually the epoxy and then I use base coat I just had some silver mix up so here I'm spraying the silver you can see there's virtually no overspray you notice I primed it and painting it and there's nothing on the garage door and you wouldn't be able to do that with a traditional system but let me tell you after it's all nice and done after a base coat it and that's a just kind of a nice silver that I had and I mixed some other silver together and it just it's just a nice silver to me it looks kind of like cast aluminum and now clear coating it really makes a difference it just Automotive uh products like base coat and clear coat are good to about three or four hundred degrees my paint people said so it'll more than last for any kind of heat for even your engine like I'm going to be paying the engine so anyway check it out tell me what you think I hope you really like this video if you did please give me a like and a follow comment in the section because I'd like I'd really like to know how I can make these videos better for everyone and what you really want to learn about you know so hopefully you know you follow along see me building my 69 Chevelle twin turbo LS it's going to be a monster and I'm very excited to be showing with you [Music] so check it out there's the transmission all built up I should handle about 1200 horsepower now but man oh man I'm telling you right now when you paint a transmission or you're paying anything with automotive paint not spray paint it just looks so much nicer I mean it looks like a car you know I I've used you know aerosol before and I've sat and finished cut motors with base coat but never really clear coated them and I just cannot wait to see what this motor is going to look like when I paint it it's not going to be this silver it's not going to be this silver it's going to be candy blue like the car but anyway check it out that's the transmission all done should be rated for around 1200 horsepower I did it all for around 1200 for a 4L80E well that's a wrap if you liked the video hope you follow hope I get to show you some really cool stuff
