good morning everybody february 6 saturday um looks pretty nice out it looks beautiful the wind has died down a little bit but i think it's still about six below four below something like that i think it's supposed to get up to maybe two below but if the sun is out that helps but the wind was crazy yesterday and i think the wind is supposed to kind of keep up that's why i got this sweet hat on get out in the wind i can strap this baby down and we're good to go but anyway we're gonna go down now i got the skid steer in the garage the block heater plugged in so that should start um get some silage mixed up for the cows see if that bedding chop will start some chop some hay if not i'll have to feed him hey just solid in the barn chunks but uh and then my other brother youngest brother matthew he's here we got a big dead pine tree across from our house so we're gonna see if we can cut that down too we want to get it down before it falls on the fence anyway um so we're gonna go in the barn here now and sweep up mangers and see if we can get some silage mixed this is one of them days where it's nice to walk into the barn because it's nice and nice and toasty in here all right see if we get the skid steer going oh the wind is picking up ah that's brisk we'll go over and see if that bedding chopper will start first and then we'll come back i'm sure that skid steer shouldn't have any problem that's plugged in but i'm curious to see on this bedding chopper because after i put that fuel screen in there that thing started way better in the cold than it has before so we'll check that out oh yeah so that two pulls four below not bad two pulls four below fired right up i'll take that all right now we'll go get the skid loader fired up but that's one thing i like about having this feed wagon i got there that runs on electric because i don't have to have another track to run and i can just start the skid loader pull it around with that so we'll go get that fired up [Music] oh come on old girl [Music] it's so warm i haven't run my automatic transmission fluid into hydraulics i usually do that in the winter but i kind of figured we were getting into february we were out of the woods of this really cold weather it's been mid 20s and 30s all of january but this is how spring is going to be i might go back to 2020 you can turn the heater on in there if you're getting cold ccr on radio you're going up or you want me to thank you come on man oh all right we're gonna go try to drop this tree down i'm gonna let matthew run the saw so if it falls on grandma's house fifth ball big white pine that uh i don't know what happened if i got hit by lightning it's been dead for a couple two or three years now but [Applause] i uh it's always kind of leery about cutting it down just because it is so close to the house but it looks like it's got a pretty good lean going away so i think we'll be all right there it is you can see get over it's it's completely dead but it's tall i'll cut down that one that's leaning right behind it yeah little dead one yep then we should be able to drop that one that way all right we got some of this cleared out here i'll go get a little closer up there's another tree that one there that he's cutting by that one's not dead but it's got a pretty good lean to it and it's kind of in our way drop this one that way so he's gonna take that one out of there and this other little one here that one's dead we'll take that out and then this this big white pine here he's dead all the way up so i think he should be pretty solid yet because he's only been dead a couple of years but these ones i kind of worry about i'm going to keep a good eye on it while he's cutting in case stuff starts breaking loose but [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right did you want to uh take the skid steer and pull that one down first i'm worried this one ain't gonna it's just gonna slide down it because it's hung up pretty good on that yeah it's good there's enough room in here to get it in easy yeah i think i can drive it in here and then i'll uh we'll put the chain on i'll drag it over so it falls all the way down yeah that wind is picking up a little it's getting cold that's what i'd like to get this cut before that wind gets too crazy but at least the wind is blowing in our favor anyway it's blowing away from the building so that'll be nice but if we get the skid loader of a chain the one he just cut down that hung up so we're gonna drag that pull that so it's all the way down so i cut that big one down it will uh it'll just go right down it won't hang up on that spruce we cut [Music] wow [Music] i'll give a yell if something starts happening matthew do we want to cut some of this out of your way [Music] okay [Music] all right well we got it down i didn't get any video of that one coming down because it uh started coming backwards on us so i had to go get a chain come along you can check that saw matthew see if there's enough there should be gas in it because i just guessed it yesterday really broke mine i didn't break it you did you would have stopped cutting when i told you yeah i think it was when it fell off yeah probably or else i branched it so anyway yeah it started started coming backwards and pinched his saw so we went and got the chain come along oh yeah i'll show you what matthew did to his saw here this got stuck in there and then anyway he had the stump cut up higher but when the tree fell then uh the saw fell and it paul said a big branch well paul said he saw a branch hit it too i don't i didn't see that but there were some of the branches on the top when it came down but broke this uh mount loose in here so i suppose that'll be the gas tank and the rear handle and everything but so anyway um we're gonna clear up this saw we used that one of matthews because it's got a longer bar on it so this tree so get get through it better but anyway yeah so yeah it started coming coming the wrong way backwards there just pinched the saw so we got a chain come along and hooked to it hooked it to another tree and uh started pulling on it got the chain off now but i got a chain there hooked it on around the tree and hooked it to that little tree and as soon as the it didn't it didn't take much because as soon as the chain got tight it was enough to take it over center and pull it down so anyway we got it down it was a good thing to get down because the top was getting pretty rotten already that once it hit them trees in the woods there it broke off anyway so so now i was going to cut the stump off and dice some of this up for some firewood and be good to go tip of the day always watch which way your tree is going and always make sure that you can hear the guy yelling to stop cutting make sure you're not deaf yeah [Laughter] all right well we're gonna make some firewood and the weather coming up we're gonna need it so but there should be a lot of good wood in that that tree morning everybody monday february 8th this morning uh it's about four below boy that wind picked up again the wind was calm last night which i'm glad it was because it was uh i think actually this morning after chores probably about 7 30 i think my phone showed 27 below so i'm sure we hit 30 in places around here so that's that's plenty cold for me i know there's places it gets colder but um that's i'll handle that that's enough for me uh we did have a couple times this morning where the power went out just for a minute or two at a time which i was a little nervous because if the power goes out here at 26 27 below that's not not a good thing but anyway so that wind is i was going to let the cows out a little bit today while i got stuff kind of swept up in the barn but with this wind blowing i think i'm going to leave them in because that doesn't seem to want to quit but anyway um nothing too fancy going on today i'm going to get stuff started here again mix up a batch of feed for the cows get them fed i get the outside ones watered i'm gonna check my i don't have any cattle drinking out of this stock tank here right now but i got a heater plugged in there um but i don't know it doesn't really look like it's heating very well i'm trying to put my gloves on here sorry for the camera angles uh so we'll see if that's doing anything or not because i plugged it in before i put it in there the heater and it was making heat so i figured it was working but we'll find out doesn't look like it's very open water but i guess it's not frozen real deep oh it might just be a it's kind of in the wind here so might just be getting enough wind on it that it's not keeping up i'm gonna go behind the barn and check on the other one i got back there for the dry cows and stuff and see what that looks like this one's definitely working that's more how they should be so i don't know if my other heater's just weak that other tank had had some ice in it too well of course so did this one so i don't know maybe that other heater is just weak i might have to get a better heater [Music] it's always nice when you can keep fresh water flowing for them when it's this cold i got a couple of smaller pins the heifers up there well the one pen they've got a heated automatic water up there in the barn and then a couple of the other small pins i got to keep keep filling theirs i don't have heaters in them their water tanks are in the pan and if you put a heater in there they just chew on the cord or pull it out or whatever so i just got to keep watering them but they don't there's just a few animals in there so they don't go through much but anyway he said it's four below now so everything should start i've had this skid loader plugged in i'll fire that up and then we'll go start that bedding chopper i'm gonna put my hood on because that wind is nasty see if we can get something mixed up here maybe she ain't gonna go i don't know why that that heater wasn't working or should crank over better than that nope it's not gonna go well let me see if my cord is working here well it uh it was plugged in but i think it was just sitting a little bit loose and that wall all there wasn't quite in far enough or something so uh we'll try it again we'll leave it sit there plugged in but it's not gonna start right now it'll be able to mix feed later hopefully if it starts heating now but i'm gonna have to get this give the cow some hay in the barn so um anyway that's what we'll do now we'll go through and sweep up all their uh what they got left here they ain't got too much left for their silage we'll get that all swept up and then we can give them hay on top of that and get that done all right we got this side got this side swept up jordan got it all loaded up i got the other side just about swapped up and we'll get that loaded and just haul these sweepings out for the dry cows and stuff to pick through so watch out girls i'll eat my camera watch out now come on they like that stuff i'm gonna go check there a few days ago we put straw out here to kind of make a bedding pack for him and tried to get it as much out of the wind as i could now the wind's coming from a little different angle again so of course it's kind of hitting here but um it's looking pretty good could maybe use a little bit more again they're kind of getting it spread out but at least it gives them something to lay on you know give them something something between them and the frozen ground you know something warm to some cows they'll make a lot of heat and they got a lot of fur but something to keep them dry because they get wet that's not good so anyway um pull this in and go finish loading up the other side how's it going jordan you're loaded up whoops all right i just got to sweep this new part out here and i'll have it all right everybody fed hay i'm just going to haul this other boat uh sweep things out now and we'll go check on them heifers up there get them watered if they need i gotta thaw out the hydrant up there the valve freezes a little bit at the top so you can't open the handle so i got to get that thought a little bit and hopefully the hose isn't froze it shouldn't be and then we'll take care of them all right we got everybody up here watered hay and green and everything i'm gonna go bring this hot water pitcher back down to the milk house and then i'm gonna go see if that heater is working on that skid loader i should be able to feel now if it's starting to warm up there because when i tried it earlier there i stuck my hand down there and that whole engine block was cold so the block heater like that it should be nice and warm so anyway we'll go check that and then i've got a box of new inflations for the milkers i've actually got that sitting in the garage that's out of the way i bring that in the milk house so they can warm up because i need to get them put in here too i'm my i usually do them with the amount of cows we milk about every six months and i'm over that by quite a bit so i need to get them changed i haven't had any issues with these yet but as far as leaking or anything but the old ones but uh once they start getting worn they just don't work like they should oh yeah it's heating now [Music] so that's good that leave that go till later this afternoon and hopefully then it'll hopefully then it'll fire up yeah i didn't realize that's been plugged in since yesterday afternoon mid to probably two o'clock yesterday afternoon so but i never i never checked it i guess i just plugged it in and i think paul actually backed it in there and plugged it in and the cord was plugged into the wall but it must have just been just not quite enough to make contact or something so bring these inflation's in here to warm up and maybe get them changed out this afternoon too a box of them here they go a lot go a lot better if they get nice and warm they're a lot easier to pull in there than if they're all cold stiff so all right i'm gonna go put some wood in the furnace and uh head in and get some lunch all right i've got something to eat i just went out cut up a little more of that big pine tree we cut down behind the house here i'll bring that up after a little while and get that split um i'm gonna go down i'm gonna try to start that skid loader but i think first it's getting closer to chore time here so i'm gonna try to stick those inflations in get that done um then i can run a sanitizing rinse through them and i gotta wash a bulk tank too so we'll see about getting that done here first looks nice boy it's beautiful with the sun but man that wind is really blowing today it's actually it's zero right now i think that's probably about the high temp for today nice over here i got a our outdoor wood boiler i've got a line that runs down here for heat in the milk house so i keep it pretty warm in here that's kind of nice we used to just have a little propane heater in here and that kept the water from freezing but that was about it all right so what we're going to replace is the inflations um basically what they are is inside these these ones are stainless steel shells here it's just a rubber piece inside of the stainless steel and that's what goes around the cow's teeth and then it they pulse in and out like this these are just a plain rubber they're not a silicone one some places use silicone ones and then these are a triangle bore instead of a standard is a round bore they make triangular square a few different kinds the triangular ones i don't know i seem to have a little better luck with them just with not sucking air and stuff when they're on the cow so anyway what i'm going to do i just got a razor knife i'm going to cut them loose the old ones off here and i'll probably just cut them here pull the old one out and then pop the new one in normally i uh take them apart pull them off of here pull this all out but i got some better razor blades now in my knife so we're going to try that once they've been on there for quite a while they can get kind of sticky so seem to work pretty good you gotta be careful though i don't cut into this little hose because i'm not replacing them so those aren't very old those are on the vacuum around the outside in that stainless shelter that vacuum comes from the pulsator and goes on and off and causes them to squeeze in and out i don't know if it's any faster cutting them maybe a little bit but it does save on your finger trying to push this old one out of there usually get a sore thumb trying to do that there's a new one there to put that in and it's got a little line here and one down here you want them so they're straight so you don't get a twist in there inside that shell so just pull it through so it locks in put it back on here um they're still a little cold yet normally they pop in a little bit better they're not too bad um so all right one down three to go all right so now what i'm gonna do i'm just gonna put some sanitizer chlorine sanitizer in here and run that through a little bit just to sanitize them new inflations and everything like that um and then i'm gonna wash the ball tank get that done and then i'm gonna go start that skid steer i'm kind of running out of battery here so i'll try to try to get all that for you before i run out of battery all right so i got the uh thing filled up here with water and some sanitizer milkers back in there i'm gonna swing this pipe over here so it can circulate a little bit and then we'll come over here and turn it on then it'll come into this jar um and it'll fill it up there's three rods you can see that blue rod there's two longer ones and the short one once it gets up to that short one that'll kick on that pump then and then it'll pump it over to the sink and it can just keep circulating down there overhead here there we go there we go now we're moving some water all right let's go see if that skid loader will start before i run out of battery what are you a burglar no yeah give me your money you're a burglar bank robber no i'm a bad guy you're a bad guy well they're kind of the same thing aren't they yeah yeah it's still cold oh well all right i'm gonna climb up here we'll try this again unplug our heater oh yeah that's better there we go all right we'll let this warm up a little bit [Music] we'll let that warm the oil up and everything a little bit and uh and we can mix silage but anyway you've seen enough of that i'm sure so i'm gonna probably end this video now um get yours rolling here night chores um i just want to thank everybody for watching hope you like the videos i know this time of the year things are kind of kind of slow there's obviously no
