I loved that you could see when the hour was up that he wasn't done with how he wanted it in his head and even during the final play he kept tweaking it...

[Music] yo Texas Brooks here from the slams to your challenge you might know me from checks like like again but they've got our morning Gehrig's these tracks with my cream she'll take a checkers slime challenged me to make a track in one hour it's gotta be rough things gonna be cool I hope some of this I hope I can finish a break build up maybe a drop but we'll have to see all right so let's get start it what I wanted to do is start with a break and what I mostly do is start with courts to create like some kind of hype and what I mostly do is open fire my favorite plugin it's really easy to get like a warm sound without doing too much with the plug-in and that's pretty much why I use fire and I always use this preset it's super simple it sounds super like cheesy but it's really easy for me to like make chords quickly and try to create that vibe that I'm looking for so guess I'm just gonna try to yeah let's see if we can get some cool chords with it [Music] just cool Masek heal a bit higher for [Music] down I just start like trying to find the right chords to it to get like a cool vibe from it like that I just I always try to I think I already have the melody in my head and it's kind of weird but [Music] from there on once again just start layering like most of the times when I make multiple lines or melodies I don't know really how to explain that but more notes you use the more feeling I get from the chords so so now I got this [Music] and for me these are kinda cool courts at least is good enough to like sort of a decent break from it so the next thing I do is I open another spire and I just start looking for a plug as fire itself has some really cool bangs in it so for example you have these all these presets you can just choose from they probably have some flux in here as well let's just get a new Bank yeah for example this one it's like a lot of I'm just gonna scroll through them until I got like a block that I feel like fits the course [Music] I'm also like the drop or something all right so we have the chords now we have like a decent pluck and most of the time I just start making melody and from that one if you have the chords and the melody on top of the course it's really easy to create a full break and the moment I do that then I just start like a temple questions and kicks or maybe I know high ass and it's really easy to fill the break-up from their own because you already have the basis [Music] so super cheesy is melody but I only have one hour so that's the way it's gonna be so something like that could be cool or maybe add some noise in the bottom as well [Music] so now pretty much the chords and the melody so I think it's time to start working on the main break as well so what did you know is just open an anti-pattern let's just open 10 because it's easy I'll open have a keys now and this is a basic piano plug-in from f el sitio but I really like that it's called the e piano and it's I don't know I feel like it's a really good plug-in to start your track with and for example now we can copy these chords put them in the piano plug-in and we're just gonna lead all the separate notes but we're gonna drag them out we're gonna do that with all the noise [Music] and this is probably going to be the beginning of the break so what I'm gonna do now is just drag it into a mixer I think I'm just gonna open a filter it's a great way to open the track just put a filter in it and put some stuff with high end on it like for example a highlight or in this case is gonna be a plug well so easy to build it up from there what I notice is the FL plugin for the piano it pans a lot so from the last we go to the right I'm gonna reduce that a lot [Music] maybe put a bit of distortion on as well [Music] I was gonna check if it maybe it's cooler if we do that after a fill tour before because it always gives different results like their gritty vibe to it you can even automate that to do some do a little wave so it's different every note it hits for example I can make this automation clip into a wave super extreme now but we're gonna reduce that later on so just to show you guys this [Music] it's way too extreme or just to show you [Music] three subtle but if you add stuff like this and do it 10 or 15 times with all the other little subtle details are gonna make a huge difference in the end of the track so we have the course now let's just copy this and make it 16 and then we get the melody which is still back here open a new pattern and look [Music] better [Music] [Music] [Music] so now we have the plug I'm going to say the same with the the plug as well this is still at the beginning to track I don't want it to be that open yet so once again I'm just gonna put an interior mixer probably you're gonna do the same with the filters and stuff with now I'm gonna do it within the plug-in and why do that because the plug-in can control like the decay the sustain and that kind of stuff it's as you can see it's linked here the cutoff and you can kind of you can you can tell the plug in how you want it to sound when you reduce or increase the cutoff so that's a good thing about this because it still it keeps the high end of the plug without dumbing it all down like the filtered it with the piano [Music] as you can see the plug here is way louder or more open at the end but in the beginning it still has some iron to it so once we get that then it's time to like build up to break we have the cords here we have to plug I'm not gonna touch your cutoff because I feel like it's it's loud enough there as it is mates time here to add some more chords to it and I think that the song we started with could be great too like this one there's a lot more energy especially since it's like double time we can just a lot more energy than just the courts in general so I'm just gonna put on the need here [Music] once again put them on mixer so it's easier to do everything let's just mix it a bit for your keys put in the stair as well and goofing here is that if we add bass here it's gonna have a huge impact because now the difference isn't that big from the first part to this one once you have the chords but if you add this there's no low-end at all so if you all of a sudden blow into it it's gonna make a great impact it's gonna get like there the hand is up kind of feeling you get when you're at a festival and suddenly the bass kicks in and everyone's happy so we're gonna try to once again spired it's pretty much all I'm gonna do probably this hour because spire is by far my favourite plugin you use it to create my basis my leads pretty much everything so since this is only an hour I'm thinking let's just go to the factory banks again because it's once again it's a great plug-in and the presets you are great at all you can just go through them and see what base hits this could be cool so we just copy that copy the bottom layer of the chords and make the bass play it [Music] so we get now is that once again putting it in the mixture so we can make sure nobody wanted to have the high ends we can secure that [Music] [Music] now listen to this I feel like that the plug isn't standing out as much as it should so we're just gonna add another pattern for a plug c14 that's another way to make this part stand out more just the first part is it's kind of a kind of smooth really easy flow going and I really want this one to get to an echo to another level so we're gonna add another plug to it so it sends out more let's see just gonna copy this one clone it and then pick another plug for it cool and then just go for it [Music] cool volume not a plug here it's already lot stronger than in the beginning what I do here most of the time is just get like a real kick I thought said you have some basic plug samples here as well that has really acoustic kicks you can just grab whatever you want some something that sounds good to you like this one so cool so what I do here is I get these cakes put it on the on the beat and the first thing I do is get those two a mixer that's just a sign free and so the weight with the with the base and just sign chain open kicks are here because pretty much easy to fall on the side chain is super easy so plug in my Nicky Romero I see a lot of people use all kinds of different side chains but this one just works for me there's enough options for me to to get what I want but it's super easy to use as well you can just open it and the side chain so to be easy to automate as well for example so it's just so we have to kick here and the base and what's so cool about kick starters you can just create an automation clip and so we can basically tell the computer to so there's no kick so here for the bass but we don't have bass here that's right for example if we use it in the build up for example here it's super easy to sell FL CEO to shut it down here so to kick ends and then deciding as well you can for example in the bill we're gonna probably going to do something like this so it keeps on going and then picks it up but you don't need such in there if it's not a kick so now with this probably going to cite in the courts as well and the good thing is okay so we can just link it to the automation we already made so you don't have like a hundred automation in your screen we can use this this kick sir so what's it called animation for both the bass the courts the plucks you name it and we can tell it to trigger with just one animation clip we'll make sure way easy to work and it's always good to like think about your workflow that's one way how I do it so we have that you're searching this one as well we see [Music] unless in two days and I feel like that maybe the courts should do the same thing as the plug like the little hopper does here what did you notice just automate the filter of the piano plug-in that the trek starts with so I wanted to be on this level but only when they kick kicks in so it starts a bit easier sounds like a pad [Music] you see as you can see we're outlining right now don't really like to do that but [Music] maybe we can put a sign really light on the clock as well like only 50 percent and like a quick sigh tune and what we can do from there is add some high hats to it or some rights to it shakers could be cool for example these kind of songs to make sure it fits in tempo of course it'll be loud mouth it's just to check if it matches the tempo something like that and we add that to let's say 14 so that's one maybe you can either find someone it's a little bit a little bit different [Music] once again just matching it to the temple also put 14 [Music] you can do something like this [Music] [Music] so we already have like a big difference between this part [Music] Lisa's thoughts who look like something and most of the time when I when I build a break or build a drop or anything I just make the ID so we pretty much have an idea right right now and what they do then has also all sorts of Rises impacts you name it let's just open catch me expect right now there's a lot of great samples in it there's a reason why everyone uses it because so let's just try to find some fails some impacts my Vic's for example we have here can we cool to like end the break like this I'm the only to go to drop but let's just find some pills and stuff mix elements impacts some Rises three transitions [Music] [Applause] maybe that's a bit too extreme but let's just keep it simple [Music] so now we can build the drop and I feel like this could be a kind of track similar to bite or boomerang well maybe in a boomerang but bite or like a do they both have the the same melody in the drop as you having a break and this could be easy to work with that so let's just see no way so that's perfect drop what I'd like to do is just create a layer so once we're gonna opens fire and I just go through through my presets and try to find like cosines for layers so let's just see we have leads here let's just openly one perfect kind of em kind of vibe to it and let's just make the drop from 20 and on so this is the pluck and when we go to a different pattern and put it into this layer so there's already a big difference from [Music] that's emotional with the cake percussion still here I know okay here's gonna use whether the pill to the drop is gonna be the transition from the rake to the top and we're gonna end up with something like this of course with like a cake and base underneath it well what works for me when I make a drop is I make two subtle layers so for example now I'm just gonna search for a base that's just super EXTREME on a normal basis could work or build the base from there on so once again i layer this one as well and the easy part about this is when I add different face vsts or plugins or samples I can always just link them to this layer and it's gonna play all the plugins and all samples with the same only so you only need one pattern to do that but yeah now we have the base here let's see this is 120 let's put this one with 23 or something like that so it's close together and we're gonna do here let's just see copy the base that we have on a break up here I think yeah and we're gonna put it directly on this one and then just copy the rhythm of these notes as you can see it's already you can kind of get the idea of this becoming a drop if you hear this first and then imagine like a big build-up to it and then the kick hitting some sample in between here that's just for to make it easier to look at because there's another poem you have two different metal easier so now we pretty much have an idea for the drop and what I mentioned with the layers it's super simple to add different layers to it now because of course it's a commodity but the sound is not there yet by far so let's just start work on that and why I by the way why I skip the build up because I feel like once I kind of done with the break and I feel like the next part I need to do is to drop it's really easy to to glue those two together when you have already have a break and you're right you have a drop because I I was gonna love a lot of questions when people ask me that they they tell me about their break that they may but they have no idea how to build to the drop but most of the times that that's because they didn't even have a job yet so what I try to do is when I finish my break directly after that try to create a drop and then it then you can grab elements from the drop to put any Umbro as well from your break so it's really easy to glue those together and make a smooth transition out of it so that's why I'm gonna work on these leads now because when these are finished for the drop then it's really easy to use them in the build-up to the drop so let's just find some coolies to add to this once again I'm just gonna scroll through [Music] cool sound to the original so let's just try to edit this one and make it fit - there is some low I don't believe it in a week so just get it out let's just try one more lead to fine to make it extra happy so once again I copied one of the leads and I'm just going to look for the next one [Music] [Music] this sounds really lame but I feel like it's gonna fit well to the second [Music] better one [Music] this could be perfect like this is always good to get to the the latest phone bodies to it let's see so we have three leads now it's all layered into one mixer so it's easier for me to see how the the total stack of the layer sounds like so yeah might be a bit too detuning so I think it's a third one yeah so the first one's almost done that's what I try to do when I remember it's always remove the low frequencies where you don't need them because as you can see you don't hear that much much low frequencies but it's always good to remove them but as you can see here there's still something rumbling and low-end and that's if that adds hope for like 20 layers and you're gonna have a problem mixing everything together so you have one lead here let's check it take a look at the second one distort it a bit and I feel like this should be the main main sound of the the the layer of the leads and so I'm gonna use this one make this allow this and use the altitude to to strengthen that we'll meet up so we have one main send it's gonna sound like that same but we use all the other layers all the other sounds to boost that kind of sound [Music] [Music] so this is the last one what I'd like to do with this one there's always distorted crap out of it we like the delay so you have the top needs and I just work with the bases a bit as you can see this can be longer so what I always like to do is like to mess around with the Octavius the bases as you can see well this node and this one I want to take higher if I don't do that and it's gonna sound like this if you sunos one octave higher it's gonna add a lot of energy to it this all these small kind of tricks always make that everything that's all together and at the end you're gonna have a lot more energy because of all those small tricks small small changes in the patterns of the notes or the key of it oh yeah now we're just gonna lengthen these notes up because of course this is the base and I needed to especially drop to fill fill up the space where the kick isn't there [Music] just like at least we're just gonna look for some fool basis as you can see here most of the presets I've made over years so I can just scroll through these bases really aggressive don't really need that now [Music] make it match the other base DK and sustain life [Music] little pretty bass [Music] and one more time I'm just gonna clone this one and full cool base [Music] [Music] [Music] then what I do most of the time with my base because the thing everyone struggles with most is I feel like mixing the kickin sup so I've been talking about this as the base but what I'm gonna do now is just route everything to one channel and I'll feel them I'm gonna cut away this up it's probably gonna sound weird so I'm gonna do that with all three of the basis so there's no solos [Music] so there's no salt left now can't hear it completely because I'm not really used to these kind of speakers but let's just say there's no sub now and then any sub will do this probably one and the main factory as well that's cool stop this this one's at 28 so let's put this one at 29 [Music] so we know one sub phase that we can it's really easy to control that one compared to having five different sounds that are phasing it you know kind of baseline as well [Music] like this [Music] most of times what I do now is let's just say let's get a kick down 17 that's fine let's just make sure it's stretched so we have to kick now it's a really loud one but always works to punch through once again we're just going to side tune the leads in the bass so it doesn't get any way of the cake [Music] when we compress this one the labour of the base so once a bit more let us see the glue [Music] [Music] so now I pretty much filled up everything that the low end of the kick doesn't have so you can see the kick ends here and I feel like the big star kicks in about here feel like a full body or face now maybe I'd like a clap to it gosh me probably has those kind of stuff right here drums claps [Music] what I'd like to do with these claps like some small tips it's open grows feeds a gross beat you can it's pretty much volume slightly shaper and what they do here is just leave the very first tick of the clap so it doesn't sort of kick punches out even more so if your solo the club it'll sound like this do you like the sake of the claps fume is gone but that's because pigs already there so they take punches out even more without you even noticing it so next part is the delete this [Music] [Music] so we pretty much have an idea for a job like normally I have something days I'd spent weeks on it and like to get better leads make my cleats my own instead of trying to find presets from spire but as I see now we only have 15 minutes left so we're probably gonna glue everything to get it out so we have to break and the things we could probably use these claps here as well let's make them unique and put them a different channel because we don't need to remove the tick here so we have this that's just one more sort of bass keeps going and melody [Music] and what it always helps is just just add some snares and stuff we will do that later on this is and what can you hear is like I said earlier it's really easy to maybe bill make it build up if you already have to drop and already have to break so what we can do here is like you see I took the base from the from the break and I took some claps on the drop I took the plugs from the break and I'm gonna have the leaf from the drop - to it again so really easy to glue those two together and once again we can just filter this one the droplet [Music] that's mighty funny unique [Music] [Music] and let's just copy this one for the blocks as well so let's make this one unique same with the other puck [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so let's just start looking for some snares now we have to collapse the bassist impacts what I'd like to do is always I always use dubstep packs because I don't know why I don't know if it's true but I always feel like the sound designers off these kind of packs pay a lot more attention to detail when it comes to scenarios and kicks because that's reemployed in and dubstep and then I don't want to say it that's not if not the case in EDM but a lot of sample packs care more about the the bass shots and the melody loops and the metis in it and then they just get like ten random snares and if you get like dubstep tracks for example I use black octopus now this one is the Leviathan - and as you can see there's a lot of drums like they have insane amounts of kicks and all tuned and same goes for the claps and the snares so it's really easy to put like a drum loop for example here you have like separation of long loops to get stuff from there and so let's just get a snare let me see go find them there we go so this snare Jesus so we only have moments left I see now I'm gonna have to hurry up so I'm just gonna work a bit faster they probably bit sloppier as well but this has to do with that rice I want to do nice to double the snares to to just probably know what I'm doing it's when the end results more exciting [Music] so we're gonna now is like this is missing a sample something here simply empty so that's also a great benefit of having those types of samples have like insane baseballs and quartz and I don't know what brought them from there there's no shame in using samples if they're really good so let's just get a base shot or something this [Music] [Music] [Music] stuff like that it helps to to keep it more interesting if you have like these small fills and what I would normally do if you for example I've uploaded a couple of master classes and you see like 60 parents and that's all Automation details plugins and and effects and this is only two parents so normally I would do something that would hear some something we're looking at here would probably go until here all filled with effects and samples and I don't know but six minutes left so we're gonna have to hurry that's just seconds for some cool pills here six years well [Music] so now of a filter [Music] nobody like that a film but the bases are cool and yeah from here on we can just uh let's see here we have atmospheres there and cool it's like an old channel another song help to build like a kind of emotional vibe to the first kind of fight [Music] don't see what you're near this kind of stuff always really cool to mess around with especially when you're working with breaks and like for example here we have these courts and plugs that all make you feel like a certain kind of vibe and all these kind of random samples really help to add to that something like this it's way too loud now but we'll see what I'm getting at just this one call supple doubt Adam in volume for example just like this there's tick to it the base for it [Music] [Music] [Music] one more thing I need to do with the leads yeah so kickstart is still on here nobody like that so we built we can just round up now it kicks in here [Music] [Music] maybe three more minutes let's just try to make the base a bit more powerful and I think then we're out of time so what you can also do is get like a base shot when we just got with us assemble and which everything the same way as the the base goes in the melody as you can hear is really sloppy but one minute left so [Music] so this will have to do citing it as well [Music] let's just I don't know I always save my master chains let's just get one st guess we never realize that's the last thing I'm gonna fix so it doesn't didn't load everything so [Music] [Applause] [Music] that's the alarm it's harder than I thought it would be I don't know why but I kind of got lost in like creating a melody and the break and the flux and then I look to my left and it's already been 30 minutes so I don't know I really like doing this it's cool maybe I'm just gonna do this by myself just for fun but yeah not completely happy with the end result I feel like the melody is kind of getting weak but then again normally I work for weeks on one track I like the remix I did for which one was that the still down remix out like one week out of that line of one week and I spent like 20 hours a day on that remix and now I have one hour for to do a complete track so that's a big difference but I don't know I I hope the drop will be cooler that would at least be longer but this is what it is so let's just listen to the track one more time and see what we make [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] that's it if you liked it so this was Brooks I just the slime Studio challenge I wish I longer but it's pretty cool to do how to do it again sometimes next weeks actually in Jordan you can subscribe down here or follow us on Instagram to say update it and of course we have a lot of other artists that we're already here or are going to come in the future so check out the description for more and I'll see you soon [Music]
