hello phil here from wings of pegasus and welcome to another analysis video on the agenda tonight we have Paco de Lucia al di meola and John McLaughlin how much talent do you want on stage at one time but they're gonna be performing Mediterranean Sun Dance so let's get these guys up on screen and see how they get on [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] I'm just gonna jump in here quickly just to mention the amount of musicianship and technical ability that is on stage right now every one of these players is absolutely at the top of the technical tree what's interesting here is that al and John are using a pic in order to make their runs really nice and clear without alternate picking but Paco de Lucia is just using his fingers he's that traditional flamenco style and it is such an amazing thing to watch when he goes off on one of those really technical speedy runs and those two fingers just absolute like a machine gun just go off but it's perfectly synchronized with the left hand so really cool to see different styles on show here and coming from different backgrounds the fact that we've got flamenco and alternate picking coming together but then they're all meeting in the middle they're all right at the top of that technical tree so that they can exchange lines all exactly the same speed as one another but it's melodic as well it's not just playing for the sake of it another thing you'll see in this performance is the fact that they all share that lead spotlight in terms of if you imagine them all playing lead at the same time will be an absolute mess so musically they're having that conversation where they all pick up on each other's cues and they know exactly when their time is in the spotlight to play a little bit of lead and the other two will supply that rhythm and it's really interesting to listen to just as a composition but the way that that composition is thrown together this is like the most advanced Jam you're ever gonna hear and just a quick word on Paco de Lucia I haven't done a video on him yet this is the first one and just the fact that he's like the rock star of flamenco he really pushed the boundaries and made it accessible to everyone but it wasn't just because he was an amazing player is because of his melody and the way that he put together his solos and constructed them and made it turning out of them John by the way again what an amazing player listen to some of the stuff he's throwing in here this is pretty much one of those performances that is really tough to stop because they all dip in and out and you always want to hear what's coming up next absolutely top technical playing here just crazy ability on stage here but let's get into listening to a bit more [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] I'm just gonna jump in here just to say that the level of musicianship here is absolutely off the scale what I loved about probably about 20 seconds 30 seconds ago was the dip in dynamics so that Al and John brought that strumming down and then pakka Dooley Co could play his little soft understated lead over the top but these are all the kind of things that it's just a feeling and something that you play and these musicians can just bounce off each other and then know exactly where they're taking the piece even if it isn't rehearsed to the nth degree there'll be little passages where they feel like at the time bringing the dynamic down and they're all on the same page so they can instantly all work together as one to then make it so much more interesting as so many different shades have a little look at that run as well that Paco de Lucia just threw in crazy technique again that's all just done with first and second finger timing it with that left hand synchronization absolutely off the scale too in order to play at that speed like I mentioned before don't get taken his ruts easy to get taken away with the speed and the technical ability but listen to the melody as well there's so many players who are super fast but nothing really makes any sense but here just as a master just showing you how to do it but now let's get into John's little lead section [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I'm just gonna jump in there just a quick word on John's playing again bags of talent bags of technique there's no technique left wanting here absolute accuracy nobody's missed a note yet and considering some of the lines that actually going on it is crazy ability here this is one of those videos that is so difficult to stop because you just want to watch it the whole way through because the overall effect is so impressive and that's what great musicians will do it won't be like a bunch of technique so they're all thrown together and early just stand out like techniques it'll come across as a whole composition a whole performance and then I always say you listen to the art that's actually being produced you don't analyze oh look they did that and then he played that scale and I love how he threw in a little bit of major scale there you don't do any of that because you accept it as a musical piece and a piece of artwork so Paco de Lucia what a player what a legend and just someone who really pushed the boundaries of flamenco playing not only technically but just opening up to the whole world putting it onto a stage where actually people watched and thought hang on this is pretty cool there's some seriously cool stuff going on with this guy and just being able to do that is a feat in itself making such a traditional and isolated way of playing it's not a big shun rrah flamenco you're not going to see in the charts but to make it so accessible to so many people is an absolute master stroke and Paco de Lucia is a legend because he was able to do that and then the whole musicianship with these three is seriously impressive the way that they're bouncing off each other really taking in turns bringing the dynamic down and never ever stepping on each other's feet and that's something that you can see all the time with lesser musicians they're all trading on each other's feet musically they're all trying to do the same thing at the same time whereas great players like this don't need to talk to communicate they can do it through the music but thank you so much for suggesting this video for me to take a look at keep the suggestions coming in the comments below and let me know what you guys think if you like this video please give it a thumbs up and subscribe and I'll see you guys at the next one rock
