[Music] hello and welcome back to North and South and September pies where we have made a pie every day in September and I say that in past tense because it's our second to last day and I just can't even fathom that the month has gone so quickly it has been so difficult to figure out what I'm gonna make these last few days yesterday I made a cinnamon pie which was from day one a pie that I knew I wanted to make but I was gonna wait till the end of September when it felt a little bit more like we're into Autumn today's pie I am doing based on the number of recommendations that have come in from you guys saying that I needed to make an onion pie there's a German version an Australian version and a UK version they're all pretty close and so I'm going to do an English onion cheddar onion pie and would you believe it I'm gonna make two because our family's gonna eat it for dinner but it's six onions per pie and a pound a half of cheddar per pie so reading that I'm like well this has got to be good it's also going to be a hot water pastry which I have never made which is more substantial dough so that it can stand up to the filling and not get too soggy and so that will be a new experience for me and I think everybody's gonna be super happy so let's do it [Music] oh my gosh oh my gosh [Music] oh my gosh I don't know this is ridiculous [Music] thank you foreign [Music] thank could wait a little bit longer well we can't physically because we actually need to be somewhere but waiting a little longer would probably help it set better uh-huh so happy without looks and smells smells super good it smells incredible like really yummy cheese why don't you come in we were just about to have some cheese you guys notice I used like the really nice English cheddar which is what you got to use on this thing it's leaking might be a little bit leaky I need a plate give me a plate trick actually we're just gonna have we need to everyone bring their plates oh we have bowls let's see oh yeah right that's actually holding together pretty well it smells so good okay we better just show up eat it like at room temperature and then be really set um it's sort of it's running out so we better hurry up we have a lot of people here we've got a friend over cousin I'm taking it everyone bring a bowl in okay tonight and I heard his car start he wasn't sure if he could hang he was like he was like I don't know if that happened like we're having pie and he's like on my way [Music] okay [Music] oh my God all right we're all eating well I put it in my mouth what do you think is it good yeah it's gonna be pretty darn good I doubt it you did how many onions that were put in this yeah you thought it'd be too many onions yeah but it's really good it's really good this tastes like I just don't tastes good wax what do you think totally worth it it's actually really good yeah it's like a stuffing like definitely like a breakfast taste to it really really good yeah it's kind of like quiche yeah it's like quiche but the onions not really sweet okay it's almost like you put wine in it but you don't okay there's it's sweeter than you think and so we're all we're all drinking this cider with it because it would suggest whoa did you already finish yours oh my goodness all right uh Pearl what do you think [Music] Crashers burning his mouth okay someone suggested drinking cider and we're not drinking alcoholic cider first drinking essentially this is just your standard apple cider from the grocery one way to make it better yeah which is we took it and then we deep fried it and breaded that way that's always true what if you take them this is a hot Butter Crust it's really good oh the crust is good okay it's substantial yeah it still tastes flaky it's really good and that cheddar is so strong I'm glad you used the Irish cheddar do you think that that was a good choice and six onions how long do you think you could live off just this pie a long time half a day no I could eat something I don't want to get burned though it's um pretty darn good that's really good yeah the crust is perfect with it it's true it's not onions are not overpowering in any way it's just like it all goes together okay everybody else ran off to church activities or not everybody but almost everybody and Esther just got done with her where she's having her dinner break with her online missionary training classes and she's going to try the onion pie now it kind of looks or it seemed crazy when I was making it like how could this ever be good oh really ah that was really good this is exactly how it is described that's just pure onion and cheese there's no potatoes that's so weird because it kind of tastes like there's potatoes in there yeah it almost tastes like funeral potatoes yeah it does and it's like creamy too I guess that's coming from the cheese there's also eggs and sour cream so it's just all around really healthy yeah but you guys can see now that it's been sitting in a bit it's set up more look at that crust the crust was so substantial and good well that was unexpectedly delicious I mean I expected I figured since it was like a staple food that it was probably pretty good but when I poured all of those onions you guys couldn't see it when I poured all the onions into the cooker at first it was like a mound I'm like this I kept looking at the recipe like this has got to be wrong and then I like went and Googled other recipes I'm like no they all have that many I'm like are American onions way bigger than British onions that might be true but it works we had bigger onions so it was delicious the crust was perfect which I'm so happy that I made this one so I could try out that like hot crust before and make it look like the classic British pies you see in movies so tomorrow's the last day of September pies what are we gonna do it's been so fun where are we gonna do I don't know we're just like three days I like never mind we're making pies forever thank you for coming along I definitely recommend trying an onion pie and really we all kept saying to each other that it tasted like it had potatoes in it not onions it's really amazing it's not very oniony really for a onion six onion pie for six large onions really but um so check it out try it out and let me know what you think until then tomorrow we'll see you for one more bye hi
