seriously seriously right now blooper number one What the fu so what I do no matter what type of Cory it is I always buy a group I like 12 some people can't afford 12 get nine get a group grow them up to maturity some of them will mature in 6 months some 9 some 12 get them to mature get them females fat and happy in a group I tend to grow them up and breed them either in a 20 high or a 20 long a 40 breeder would be bigger for a bigger group but you don't need that I use sponge filtration or canister filtration I like to create some current in there in here I've got the co-op Sponge Filter just blasting and there's also a canister filter blasting there's actually eggs in there right now and there is eggs in here right now which they'll get those eggs and there weren't eggs this morning when we left or when I left yeah so basically you get a group grow them up get them conditioned and for sexing them look at them from the top and I call it the long diamond and the regular Diamond I like that okay so the long Diamond kind of goes right that's a male the regular Diamond goes more symmetrical fat in the middle basically that's the female so you sex them from the top yes okay when I sex them when I look at their bottom fins yes that's a female and she's got like curved ones and the boys have pointy ones that's how I that's another way but you know if I have them in a in a bowl I can I can sex them even at a fairly young age maybe one inch I can tell from the top yeah then you want to get a ratio of about two males per female that's the idea ideal ratio I feel like and so if you have like say six males three females that's a really good ratio and so now you've got them all growing up use the temperature that works for that fish sturb work at a higher temperature versus um something like pandas or bronze cories at a lower temperature and that that's information that anybody can find online what temperature works good for the for their fish but then for breeding um I just condition them with a lot of food a lot of food a lot of fresh water when I feel like they're you know in condition then you start working on triggering them how old do they need to be like these these are about a year I have sturb in here that are about 9 months I believe maybe 8 months that brings me to the next thing they go in a tank by themselves for breeding um substrate or no substrate is up to you that's that's completely up to you um I've done it both ways and I've had success both ways I don't have a preference then you're wanting to trigger them to spawn now most cories when they spawn it's going to be morning to Mid to mid afternoon most time it's going to be in the morning and what I found in my neck of the woods works is if I time a big water change that's maybe four to six degrees cooler than their tank water with the same time I know it's going to rain tomorrow so low pressure they almost always will spawn the next the next morning sometimes it's just the water change and and that varies by species a little bit like these ones they get about a a 10% water change every day on Sunday it's a bigger water change and uh a lot of times on Monday I'll have eggs and what what day are we on now uh I can't even remember Saturday Saturday no it's t yes so and what did it do today it rained this tonight yes yeah so actually we weren't here today so we it might have been raining this morning here for all them like a low pressure system came low pressure system came through so some of them will spawn single legs some of Will spawn in the cluster yeah I find that um especially with the um the Barbados up in the garage which I have one female will spawn on this end one will spawn in the middle one spawns on the other end and i' I've actually watched that and it's like why do they pick those spots sometimes they will spawn in the corners which makes it a little bit harder to remove the eggs which I was just going to talk about how do we get those eggs to hatch right they will get smashed by these maybe not eaten but they will get smashed or they'll get smashed and the contents will get eaten what I do is I use these specimen containers yeah I fill it about that full of water from the tank and I will hang it on the front should we pull some eggs out just to show them yeah so grab grab that specimen container behind you yeah I fill it with their tank water Cory eggs are very sticky yeah um and they will a lot of times just stick to your finger so I just take my finger and I I roll them off I lost that one so I lost one and then I'll put him on the I'll put him in here whether they stick to the side or sink to the bottom doesn't really difference how do I get this off cuz it's just going to uh you got to push that thing unlock it with the lever and then yeah and then push that tab down right got your hands flood or that um hi guys blooper number three unlock this push this down what's how to picking Cory Exel making tripods work there we go these ones have already fungus or been squished those ones they have just these ones are viable yeah but I still take those off yeah um because one of those might possibly be viable so I've got the container full of tank water I roll them off with my finger gently they usually stick to it yep and then I can either stick them over here or just let them hit the bottom doesn't really matter so anyway we get it we get a container like that yep I tend to use just a piece of rigid Airline tubing and stick it in the corner I cut it about that long so it sits and then give it some air that just like helps the choran layer of the egg to breathe yep I want it I want it circulating the water cories tend to spawn and live in where water is Flowing yeah so they're used to this and then um for a container like this this is holding maybe what a a liter and a half yeah okay so a liter and a half I'll go three drops of methylene blue look that mix in and it'll mix in it's kind of it's kind of fun to watch that mix in it's like making Gatorade occasionally I've done it with no me blue and had just the same amount of success yeah but if i' if I put some that might not make it they're going to tune blue and I'm going to know they're dead we've got the eggs we' got the container keep it about the same temperature as the tank and in 3 four five six days again depending on the breed you're going to end up with this this is so cool a container and uh I need the torch where give me the blue one all um these are so you're going to have a container and if you look up here these eggs did not hatch those are not good eggs you got fry you can see them they're tiny they're they're tiny swimming about and these only hatched today as well I think right these hatched this today when I was gone they were not they were eggs this morning and we pulled these the first day you got here so about uh 3 days ago three and maybe 4 days ago yeah something like that four days ago yeah I think you pulled them before we got here I did I pulled them the morning that you were coming yeah so that's it and then you know I start them on finally powdered fry food so do you keep them in this container I'll keep them in here until I know they've eaten brine shrimp once so even with the methyl and blue in there too no no I'm going to start changing that water okay how do you do that you want to see yeah just I just want everyone to know the detail I'm sorry yeah um let's just okay give me give me one second here let's call this your sink or your drain yeah wherever you're going to throw waste water um I'm pretty easy about this so that's just waste water that's the waste water yep about half fill it back up with tank water you don't worry too much about stirring them up like that no not at all cool now I've I've loosened those some bad eggs so I take a baster or a pipet whatever you guys use and I will try to suck them out without sucking any of the fry even if you get a hold of a fry it's going to go down to the bottom anyway just make sure you don't got fry see a couple more how many times a day do you change the water what I like to do is I like to change it morning and night yeah just like I did now as they get a little bit older you have to be careful not to pour them out yeah yeah cuz they will start swimming right so morning and night because I kind of want this water clear before they move over here to the sturb trays yeah bigger these are a couple weeks old yeah they're hiding in the Moss but you'll see a few swimming one there yeah so and then they go in a tray until they're you know ready to go to a tank yeah that actually varies more with me than with them okay so like the ones you just looked at are ready to go to a tank but I haven't had time to get them in a tank yeah so they're still in a tray and they're doing fine uh but I don't want to leave them in here too long because I don't want to stump their growth I want them to keep growing so does that all make sense it all makes sense yeah so just the only thing I was going to ask so what when do you know to feed them I start right now okay even when they got the Yol yep Y and I I've got this new product that I'm going to try oh you know what it's called no it's called Bug Buffet okay I do know what that's called okay you did yeah so um uh you're you're looking at the wrong side yeah there you go side there yeah uh so you just brought me some of this the stuff you shipped kind of crumbled but you've changed the formula it's a little tighter now and the stuff you brought yeah yeah the new stuff's a lot harder that would have been the same as shipping it cuz you put it in the suitcase for 30 hours yeah you should SE how he treated it so um I'm going to try that but but in the past I basically used finely powdered Fred food and a little bit of baby branom then they'll start taking more of each more of each and I start right now and when you do this what's the success rate like how much are you actually getting through to every egg that hatches I raise really yeah you're like not losing any anymore no not anymore no okay um occasionally I mean you're going to get some belly sliders just be prepared for that yeah um and if you don't know what belly sliders are they're just ones that aren't going to make it okay cool they're they're missing something internally you're going to get some of those no matter what but basically I don't lose like a half I don't lose 50% of them everyone that's swimming about in there will become a viable fish at some point unless unless it's a belly slider for some odd reason and then if you didn't have your fry system out of that tray once they're eating Branch they could probably go into a 2T 10 gallon tank easily easily yeah for some cories not stir Bas necessarily but for some drop the water level can bring it up slowly yeah you know so maybe in a 10 gallon tank you might want to drop it halfway for the first week and then bring it up an inch every day after that cuz they have to come to the surface and breathe yeah and they got to be strong enough to get to the surface yeah so yeah not put anything in here with there's methan blue yeah but I add Java moss over here yeah yeah so perfect thanks Dean you got it awesome great I love those videos yeah those are fun
