Hi everyone, I'm Jeff Bezos,
founder of Amazon. I’ve been called the ‘Overlord of the Corporate Board’,
‘The king of Prime...’ ...and ‘The Bringer of Fresh…’
and I sure hope I'm being audible. Listen, I know this will surprise you all,
but I’ve had a change of heart about our company’s involvement with Berlin. You see, I've been visiting Berlin for a few days,
and I’ve learned a lot. Like you all, I've queued for millenia
in the shadows of Berghain and I wasn't let in,
despite my kink-wear. I stood in lines for apartment
viewings in Friedrichshain. I’ve frolicked on the emerald
plane of Tempelhof, rode the citrus flavoured scooters,
discovered donner... You might think it’s a miracle, but… I'm a new man! I've realised:
life is too short to be an asshole; Amazon has to change its ways. That’s why I am announcing today that
I am going to get Amazon to accept Berlin-Versus-Amazon’s 14 demands for workers,
the community and the planet. Because you’re right: It’s not fair for
a global corporation to just use a great city like Berlin for profit. If our company (or any company)
wants to be part of the community, we need to give back,
no matter the cost. You see: I’ve seen the Berlin Wall and I learned what it looks like when
unity wins and division falls. I learned that freedom of speech isn't just
a subscription that you can cancel. I now understand workers’ rights
aren’t just one click away. Human and environmental wellbeing
can’t be put in a digital shopping cart that expires after 10 minutes. A better society can’t be
delivered in 2 hours or less. So thanks, Berlin-Versus-Amazon:
your 14 demands show us the way forward. We’re going to commit to paying
all our workers a living wage, respect their unions and
independent workers’ councils, and also to stop avoiding taxes. We’re going to be part of a true green transition
and stop pushing endless consumerism. We’re dedicated to creating a great future
for everyone, not just billionaires. I just want to encourage everyone to visit
the Berlin-Versus-Amazon’s website and look at these great recommendations. I think they’ll change your life...
they sure changed mine.
