what's going on welcome back to the channel i really wasn't planning on doing a video today but i had to run to the store and pick up a brand new rope because maddie and i are going to a jackpot tomorrow at one of my favorite local arenas and i didn't really have a rope that i was super happy with so i went to the store and grabbed this c4 by cactus and i need to put some stretch on it and i need to let it set out overnight so that it's ready to go for tomorrow but before i do i think we need to roll that beautiful intro [Music] how do y'all like that new intro maddie and i love it we made it ourselves and uh we really really like how it came out i know that we have a bunch of beginners on this channel a bunch of people that sub to this channel that are new to roping so i wanted to just do a little bit of how i break in ropes and how i keep my ropes very very nice so that they last me a long time this is definitely not one of those videos where my way is the highway and actually frankly none of my videos are that way so this is just personally how i like to keep my ropes because ropes are pretty expensive i mean they're forty to fifty dollars a piece and so you wanna make sure that you get as much life as your rope as you possibly can this process is how i do it and how i maintain my ropes you can certainly do it a different way quite honestly i've just had a bunch of people around me that have shown me how to really do this so there's a bunch of videos online about how to break in robes this is just personally how i do mine most of the time i have the ropes hanging up in the rope bag just like this i used to keep them on the ground i found that every once in a while would lean it up against the side of something that sometimes they would come out and they'd have a little bit of a crinkle in them so i started hanging my rope bag up or started laying the ropes flat on the ground and to me it works much better and the ropes stay better that way first thing obviously is to undo all your twist ties after all that's off i just like to kind of assess the coils a lot of times they're all kind of messed up so i just like to get them all straight and then now we need to now we need to set this rope on a trailer hitch or a ball hitch and give it a little bit of a stretch now this is a fairly common practice and you can do it on a fence post i a lot of times we'll just do it on my trailer hitch ropes don't feel very good to me right out of the box or right after you undo it so for me the ropes feel much better after you've had four or five good stretches on it so that's what i'm gonna do right now i'm going to put the hondo on the ball hitch string it out give it a couple of really good tugs and we'll move on that was three or four really good tugs that should be enough for today and what i did afterwards is just left it all strung out come back over here to your ball hitch pull everything off one thing that i always do as well is after it's off make sure there's no kinks in it make sure that everything is laying nice and flat just because it was on that ball hitch and then i actually coil it up backwards so that if there is some sort of twist or something crazy going on that it kind of goes towards the end of the rope towards the tail now this is really the main thing is i'm going to go ahead and coil this rope up but i'm going to coil it up in much bigger coils than what i would usually do and i'm going to either see how these coils are much bigger i mean they're probably a third bigger than what i would normally have them at so i'm going to take this set it in my rope bag i always put the hondo up like this and it'll sit like that all night and and it'll sit like that until we're ready to rope tomorrow that'll help all those strands really bounce back nicely and this rope will be perfect for tomorrow it's kind of a force of habit i've got to make sure that everything sets in there just perfect that rope to me ropes feel much better when they've been stretched that way and conditioned that way and then they also last much longer so that's kind of my tips for today hope that helps if you have any questions comments or any certain way that you like to do things let me know see y'all
