he's a self-described thief who shows us just how easily we can be duped you something that's not completely legal I [Music] want to learn how to do that how could we turn ones in 200 I hope so I'm gonna learn joining us now is the star of the three-part series brain games which airs tomorrow night on the National Geographic Channel Apollo Robbins joins us now Apollo nice to see you this morning it's a pleasure thank you very much nice I'm a little worried that I'm gonna be missing some items here in a moment but if you want something I can pick it up for you thank you again okay so how do we trick our brains or how do you trick our brains well your attention kind of works like money so you have a limited resource of how much you use so you can choose where you want to spend that or it can be stolen from you like blinking banners and websites those types of thing they pull your focus every day so my job is basically to steal your attention kind of have a spotlight of where your attention is and take advantage of that so you're like doing something to my leg while you're like focusing in my face perhaps doing and sort of I'll show you demonstration okay so let's you're gonna show me something now you're gonna do something to me now that I'm sure you'll need to have your hands-free so gonna do that you hold on full advantage of that okay and you have a ring on right now but I'm not ready for that kind of commitment so you're not wearing a watch it looks like oh I don't have one okay it's gonna take your bets let's say 30 seconds to try to do this buckle it the best you can let me help you a little bit like that yet oh I'm backwards so you guys to the face there you go so you have buckled fairly tight but about comfortable frequently cleans easily duped that's right that's established okay this is gonna take about 30 seconds we won't worry about the watch but when we worry about your ring you have some chapstick in your front right pocket I believe yeah let's use just this it's just a game if I give you something of mine okay I take it away from you it doesn't violate my parole that's the basic idea margit close hold onto my wrist but squeeze so it doesn't go up my sleeve if you watch the space here you can see it looks like it goes away but right now it's sitting on your shoulder look on your shoulder well wait what what the heck you're fast that's good here try it again moving it up a little bit higher just guys watch right here you see it looks like it goes away bets back on your shoulder here what alright that's creepy if there's someone else in here it's her she's helping me here's Alison relaxing in squeeze hands heights come on don't pull my finger that's a different trick I've seen that one before let's back on your shoulder the other shoulder not yet show miss 9 your hand is definitely not there in his camera or this one over here put your other hand on top for me would you you have to watch close this is more about the timing really I'll try to push it in between your hands do you feel anything in between your hands right now not really cuz back on your shoulder you can see it's here it's not yet see your attention is moving all around these spots the idea of multitasking you only have a limited resource and that took less than 30 seconds didn't forget your ring on your wrist which Oh get away from me I couldn't see how you were doing all that now I was trying that is crazy so I did not feel that at all you just took the watch back off and that watch was on my arm tightly as well that is bizarre ok so obviously claims easily duped what about me with the nature what you do now this is gonna be easy Apollo's well she's guiding things you got a watch you have a ring you have a few things so it is important with what I have the reason why I'm here National Geographic took about an hour and three one-hour specials to show you different demonstrations now you saw a while ago when I changed the money how I did that I'd like for you to show me how you sign your name do that so you get to keep the card ok just sign my name my first and last name just like you would at the bank just like I would have been easing what you can do with it so you're going to be lifting funds out of my account shortly well I think there's a hundred and eleven in the identity theft ring you're mentioning earlier yes if you use this kind of facts you can almost see it where you wrote your name we put it here should we hang you shuffle would you best you can where's your wallet at it's upstairs thankfully right now check your front pocket I think it'd be interesting the card that she wrote her name one was inside your pocket I don't see it no no no how about here hmm in this pocket check your inside right jacket pocket inside right you'll eventually finding that phone cell phone whose cell phone is that I don't know does it belong to you No if you check fear what take a look inside look you can see this so there's no sleight of hand there's something inside the battery compartment it's folded up a couple times did you open that up no I sign and they're gonna hide the battery of the phone that was in your pocket Clayton how did you do that I'm brilliant that is crazy Apollo that's fantastic thank you you can see we do nine types of perceptions like this on the brain game show the idea is to show you how attention could be manipulated and how it can be taken advantage of have you ever been arrested no I spent a lot of time in prison but mostly visiting oh that's good he's picking up his tips that is unbelievable Apollo Robbins the show is called the show is called brain games yeah and it's a three-part series you can watch it starting tomorrow night on the National Geographic Channel I will be watching that show and keeping him out of my house have you planted any money on us anywhere no no I found a couple things but I'll take them Ali check my pants
