all right so if you haven't figured it out yet we're installing a full floor-to-ceiling window in here with a door built in two-in-one functionality fantastic win design choice as far as i'm concerned but this is going to be a little bit of a different installation than a typical sliding glass door for a couple reasons number one the nail lip i don't know what the actual real word is for this but the nail board gets installed on the outside so typically my framing would be here the door framing would be here and then this door gets inserted from the outside inward uh obviously i'm not gonna be able to do that here because the door is taller than the mouth of the door so yes this is what it's going to look like there the door is going to be taller than the actual opening it's okay though we're going to add some finishing and whatnot on that metal so it'll look it will look nice so we're going to have to basically instead of framing the door and then inserting the door into the framing we're going to be placing the door and then framing around it because again i can't insert the door into the truck from the outside because of the sizing issue so [Music] okay i'm gonna play hardball these plastic stoppers from the corners that's much better what that went too far that's what it was there we go now this goes on yeah one rotation too far did a rotation here it's hard to see but there's a small little lip right in here on both sides and this is having a hard time getting underneath that kind of snapping into place jesus christ not pop in by hand you will need to use a dowel and a mallet as advised by reliability in their how-to instructional video by the way that's exactly what they said to do they made it look a little easier though than that all right let's see if we can get the door in two screws one to adjust it and then one to actually fasten the wheels on the bottom come to the new bottom pull these out of the corners [Music] you see that can the camera see that drenched dripping and sweat yeah when your shins are sweaty you know it's hot okay i took some uh some some of the end of the flooring off there you can see the exposed insulation i'm going to be doing a dual stud on the bottom to allow for a nice strong foundation for the bottom of the door huh let's do a dry fitting here uh [Music] so i'm thinking he's so hard just to sit there it doesn't sit there yeah so you wouldn't think it'd be that hard for just sit there i mean gravity you know doesn't even stick at all that's crazy i already know just taping a wire the tape doesn't stick this one's some kind of i think this is space metal like it's probably made out of meteorites or something because it's just gorilla tape doesn't even stick to it every step every single step so i need to hide this metal part because some of this is going to be showing through the door since the door is taller than this opening so we're making a wood panel that will fit some insulation here because there's a good gap kind of space here and it will span the length of the door hide this metal that has to be the first piece of the puzzle that's why we're doing this first because that has to go first and then the door and then the framing around it so that's the order of operations we have to work with so here's our board it's going to be going up on top put a second layer of paint down there it turned out pretty well we're just going to be fastening it right up just like that to hide all this metal so you won't see it through the door and we're going to be utilizing the screw holes that are already in here now remember it's not going all the way across it's only going wide enough to cover the length of the door [Music] [Music] all right didn't want to record that one but i got the flashing tape installed on the bottom here and this is basically a kind of rubberized tape similar to the sound proofing tape actually where we got double layers one layer on the bottom one layer on top the door will sit on top of this and this will kind of fill in any gaps or cracks where water may get in the purpose of this is to do waterproofing and draft proofing so it should be a pretty good seal there we're going to get some caulk on it and then lay the door down on top now the tape says that if you use it you don't need but i say why not both now make sure this is centered 92 which means 46 is our center right there [Applause] measuring again three and a half three eighths an inch more too much [Music] and three-eighths that's it now the inside looks a lot cleaner look at this nice clean white board on the inside of the door as opposed to that ugly metal thing and it goes all the way down so even at the end we've got this nice visible and on the outsides we'll leave that space for framing and other stuff uh [Music] these are nail holes they're supposed to be used with nails obviously i could be using nails on a truck build so if you're doing this make sure you get screws with heads that are wide enough for these holes otherwise it's just going to go right through have to fasten this stud to the ceiling somehow so we're going to use 90 degree angle brackets gotta drill some pilot holes to go through the metal and then we'll drill it into the wood uh my sd card filled up on the camera but i got the other one bracketed in so you got studs this thing is fully studded in now and we'll just grab by the uh the door and when the whole truck moves that's when you know that uh it's good that is a perfect fit [Applause] all right now we've got two studs in here we can go ahead and put some cross thingamajigger so i don't know what they're called the technical term is but we're gonna take some of this put it in between like that it'll hold the door up it'll fasten the door to the wall so there will be fastened to the wall and the floor and the ceiling uh [Music] [Music] [Music] okay we are framed in and we're gonna be adding some more flashing to the outsides of the door that's more waterproof before we put the osb which will be the first layer of the wall and we'll make sure that's totally watertight and then we can add a finishing layer after that so hmm these are high-speed high-speed actuators with i believe 220 pound force on them so we'll give them a test just make sure they're working got a portable battery system here it's actually used for jumping cars all right let's get it in place and see how it works pre-drilling these holes [Music] me okay there we go okay unlock the door it's too much [Music] me oh okay we got the actuator installed here and we're enclosing the actuator on the outside of the door so i'm just going to be boxing it in with some osb which again will later be finished so it'll look a lot nicer than osb in the end but for now it's getting an osb frame okay this isn't a wiring video this is a door video right but as part of the door we have to put the actuator in because this is going to raise my ceiling up here so i went ahead and did some wiring and what we're ending up with is uh this will go [Music] attached to my battery it will connect into here we're going to use the battery pack as a stand-in just to show you how this works but eventually these will be connected so it'll come from the battery pack into this switch and then the switch has the up and down options momentary switch it goes up into the of the line for this actuator but it also has a line that goes to the other side in case i want to have to end up putting an actuator in on that side too so i have the wiring done for that but as of right now i don't think i'm gonna do that i'll have the switch mounted somewhere in here near the wall but uh here's what we're looking at uh you can't see it but you get the point right so i press up and extends and down it'll come back in so again this isn't really a wiring video or electronics video this is a door video but i had to i wanted to throw a little detail in there so when you see this all this wiring and stuff happening in the video you understand what's going on so that's all we did was install the reversible momentary switch that will allow me to open and close the the door so now we can kind of get this all enclosed and move on you um so so gaps and cracks baby and fill some gaps and cracks shake well before using and i just shook the straw off onto the roof of the garage so there goes that okay take two we're going to be using great stuff window and door filler and sealer i'm going to make sure the top cap is screwed on tightly this time okay there we go so this looks a little rough here that's you know i'm going to come back and shave this off before i put the plywood then if i put the insulation in and the plywood but i just want to fill these cracks there's some small cracks around the top of the actuator housing and i got all the inside cracks as well now these these cracks for this seam here and this seam here and the bottom we're all cocked from the outside so that won't be a big deal here's how we're looking on the inside all right there's one patio door installed in a u-haul truck that's weird well that's what happens when you're building a studio apartment in a truck but this is uh should answer all the questions that i got about you're not putting windows in the truck where you're not gonna where the windows well and there's your windows the entire wall is windows i think i have more windows now than any van as far as square footage of windows goes i got a couple questions about putting a patio door in here and people don't realize that there are patio doors and a lot of campers already so it's not uncommon to have a patio door i'm not too worried about it and having issues on the road with the movement and everything so it's pretty again it's it's pretty common to have these kind of doors in campers and this is tempered glass as well so it's pretty similar to the same glass you would have in your car so that's it hope you guys like this one i'll see you on the next one we're gonna be working on getting the ac installed that's right open home ac unit in here make sure you guys join my technobarbarian.locals.com page for all latest updates and you can ask me personal questions about the build and any kind of details i've also got resources there we're gonna have some 3d prints for parts so go there if you want to join the community we'll see you on the next one
