hi everybody welcome to Henry's blues and boogie woogie piano instruction videos I have about tons of requests recently for four specific things and this one here is a more advanced boogie woogie lick and for those of you don't know what we're talking about a link and music we made like a cool little motif a little thing that we play on the lick and this one is it's one that is loads of boogie loads of blues I use it all the time all the piano players I know they use it it's quite it took a little while to learn it but once you have it you'll be able to incorporate it into your plan and you'll be a leader and to turn it into a run as well and a run is is a longer passage of playing so a run can go from up high on the keyboard down or from down to up and it's like a long passage of notes so sometimes we can put licks together to make a run and I'm going to show you how to do that so first I'm just going to play you a bit of piano that has this lick in it and then we're going to switch to the view from above so that I can I can explain this here is just in the key of C [Music] [Music] [Music] most of that was based on one lick just one lick that I played variations of and runs based on that lick throughout the whole of that piece and that shows how you can use just one lick and add little embellishments to it add little differences to it and make it into a whole series of different things that you can use in your solos and the lick I played is this it's all right that's just one thing and I'm gonna switch to the view from above now to explain how this works okay so this this particularly is in the key of C and a lot of the boogies have been doing or in the key of C and the reason for that is that for beginners kif's is easy to to play from a visual standpoint because it's all the white notes and so you can easily see where all the white notes on you can play them now this lick here is played by lots of people dr. Joe and everybody all know you guys so it goes like this okay and we start with our little finger on the G and our thumb also on the fee down below and then we hit them both together then we take this finger and we play the E flat and then we slide off the E flat onto the e then we take this finger and we play the C so from the beginning and then we play the G with our thumb so what we've done so far goes like this [Music] just play that for a bit get to get used to the shape of it and then we play with this finger we move our hand down and this finger goes on the G flat and our little finger goes on the E flat and then we move both fingers down so that this finger goes on the F and this finger goes on the D we play it close together so what we have so far is I'll play that again so octave G E flat E C G & G flat and E flat F and D then we move our hand down again and this finger goes on the E flat and this finger goes on the G and then we keep the G held down while we slide off the E flat onto the e so the whole chord is like this and the Blues we get loads of that is called a grace note or a slide so what we have so far is this and then we was all veterans by playing the C with our [Music] we could change the emphasis by playing it like this so when we put the left hand in it goes like this [Music] with different emphasis like this this is where it gets interesting we can make a run out of this by incorporating the lip from up here and then just repeating it down the keyboard like this faster so with the left hand would be doing this [Music] with the different emphasis [Music] so just practice a bit that's the advanced lick of boogie-woogie I hope you get something out of this lesson and if you've enjoyed the lesson please feel free to leave a little donation tip thanks for checking in everybody
