her to try and help us in the panic of a mass rescue a Good Samaritan is nearly drowned as he tries to help the stranger and bluebottles invade Bondi is this the worst sting of the season there's the biggest one I've ever seen [Music] babe in iconic and alluring Bondi Beach is flooded with more than 3 million visitors every summer most of them tourists with little knowledge of the ocean the responsibility of keeping everyone safe weighs heavily on lifeguards the South corner of Bondi is probably one of the eeriest places for me personally it haunts all lifeguards because the last thing you want to do is be working when when someone drowns in his third year working on Bondi Reedy's greatest fear was realized I was working down the South End I remember watching an Asian gentleman walk all the way out and he put one hand up and then i radioed and I looked again and there was nothing this call I just went straight down I don't think it gets any worse we lost a man on his birthday in front of his whole family the man was outside of the flags in the South corner when Reedy saw him disappear just to see someone drown like that in such really not bad conditions it's scary just goes to think how easily it can happen over a decade later and really remains haunted by bond eyes south corner I always take that place seriously with every recipe that I do as I'm driving the buggy down the South corner I see obviously two people look exhausted there was gone with a girl the girls in a lot of trouble nearby swimmers are oblivious to the two people drowning just meters away in a real so as I'm paddling out I could sort of sear over the back of the way I realize he using a bad wine it's not that pretty clear as rainy closes even the woman disappears underwater she was like under that was crazy sometimes and then I get a chance to say I'm sorry so I'm not just vital I guess it just goes to show how emotional US lifeguards are and how seriously we take our job the couple from China had no idea how dangerous the South corner can be next time you got us swim between the flags alrighty that's our corner really is a dangerous place I lost someone down there ten years ago but I feel like I took a lot out of it and I grew as a lifeguard and I hope that it's made me a better life guard for the future for kids the beach is simply magical but Bondi is one of the most crowded beaches in the world and in just the blink of an eye children can disappear out of sight when it's busy summer's day we get missing people all day lifeguards deal with hundreds of lost kids every summer and in turn hundreds of distraught parents one of the biggest challenges is getting an accurate description of the child what they're wearing in their age from the parent mother of two a meter has been searching for her three-year-old son since he ran off more than 30 minutes ago the temperature is over 40 degrees and Amita has been carrying her five-year-old son as she searched the beach the mother was quite seriously stressed out of really stinking hot Sunday she looked like she had a paid stroke many cheek the parents can be really challenging we need them to help us and assist us in finding the child immediately I went off and started the search and then Jules came in she checked the girls toilets we looked around the pavilion it's the end of the day and light is fading little man he's three years old you know I was worried for the little man thus perch reaches the 40-minute mark and there is no sign of the young boy I've lost one of my children at clovelly beach one day and it's something that I'll never forget for as long as I live you literally feel like you got to be sick as light fades the shudders come down lifeguards call police Chapo needs ammeters assistance but she's suffering from heatstroke I was trying to get him moving getting her coherent getting her to try and help us oh I hadn't dealt with a situation like this before hey hey tough lobbies it's after pack up time for lifeguards as the Sun Goes Down there's no sign of three-year-old Manny the search had gone on for quite a while the worries really starting to set in with me the mother couldn't help us so the five-year-old brother was the key witness lifeguards are looking for a small boy you know white singlet the big Bravo get the family together that Arbor they said you need to help us now do you know why buddy as the search intensifies police arrived [Music] around the back it's been 45 minutes since the three-year-old went missing then Dino spots a small boy in the shallows when I first saw him there was a lady there watching and I went in us to us is this your child and she said no Dino confirms the child is unaccompanied by a parent you don't come for Drive we just needed some confirmation before we got all the way back up to the tower it is not a buggy this your brother [Music] Timur you want to have a race race it let's go let's go seem up start we've got him let's get him up to the tower get him to mom because Mom was mom's in a state of shock you could literally see the relief by pouring out of her face a father of two himself Dana shares the relief yes a parents really nice to see a family reunited you know the love for a child is stronger than any love that you can feel for another human to think that that could be jeopardized or taken away from you in a brief moment is is truly terrifying [Music] Bondi throws his arms open to millions and tourists every summer but not all types of visitors are welcome we've got all they're an absolute menace blue bottles are laced with a poisonous toxin getting stung can be extremely painful when blue bottles wash you in it's like little aliens just invading to wreak pain on everyone on the beach this is one dose it's the apocalypse the world was caving in the Blue Bottle to overtaking lifeguards offer ice or antiseptic spray but there's no surefire remedy for a blue bottle sting we just try and reassure them saying you're not gonna die and ride it out you're gonna be in this pain for 45 minutes the guys I never have any plans bring out this is just going to deal with a pain for me after treating hundreds of people lifeguards find the latest casualty doubled over on the stairs but she doesn't have any of the welts that normally come from a sting honestly couldn't say where she actually got stung everyone deals with pain differently as the lifeguards next customer goes to show it was the biggest one I've ever seen definitely one of the better stings has come to town today a woman is in distress following a bluebottle steam the lifeguards can't find any welts on her skin she was kind of using our tower as a hotel ship you know captain their sympathy was running low there seventeen year-old Thomas from Goldman leaves little doubt whether he's been stung or not I've seen thousands of people that have been stung by Blue Bottle spit this diets it was the biggest wow I've ever seen definitely one of the better Blue Bottle stings has come to our today if not the best of the season yeah I was body surfing it next minute I feel something or a fear my stomach and then I look down I see the blue Blue Bottle stings this bad can bring adults to their knees oh it's pretty Steve this kid was putting on the brightest facade ever saying are you done with the water for today and eventually just turn around and say can't asleep you know I'm just sick of sitting in here Thomas sets off but the woman on the first aid bed has taken up residence I said the Harrison I said night I don't know how to say it invite nicely bugger off it's Tommy's first season and obviously he's doing the right thing by caring for them and looking after them a lot more but it's just another person for me it gets worse come back up but I said you'll be fine sometimes you've just got to give people that little nudge that I can get on with your life [Music] it should be a relaxing swim but suddenly you're stuck in a rib you lose energy and start to panic faced with drowning people become desperate sometimes as they fight for air they'll push each other underwater I was watching this yellow RAF flight around off second ramp and sure enough they lost their raft and I noticed one of the guys was really grabbing hold of his mate and dragging him under second ramp down the second ramp and then who is fallen off the raft is being helped by a Good Samaritan but now the Good Samaritan is being pushed under water [Music] now could you see these two guys training each other in ours like on this isn't good this would be rescuer is lucky to be alive then four more swimmers are spotted in trouble as head lifeguard Papo joins the fray the situation escalates into a mass rescue once I have these two patients safe and sound on the jetski I'm on my way back in and I see another guy and he's most probably worse than these two just plucks up a man being kept afloat by three swimmers with their energy spent they'll need to be rescued by Jaco we've got six patients they're all desperate to save their own skin it's every man for themselves the overloaded jetski is at risk of tipping she's so rocky and hard to deal with desperate to survive people are pushing each other underwater Papo has three people clinging to his board in these type of situations it's quite difficult you need to make it up as you go you don't know what's gonna happen Jesse risks being tipped over on the jet ski it's the same as riding the push by the slower you go the heart of the balance I just go with my gut feeling and do whatever I think is right it's impossible for ha po to paddle with three people so he reads the movement of the current I couldn't bring all three in at one go so we all just hung onto the board there it was pulling me across under the sand Bank where would be eventually go stand up Papo direct the people away from the river sure enough I didn't listen straight back into the hole I've got the patients back to the beach safely turn around then breathe that hopper rescued er back in the root [Music] good samaritan it's the end from france recalls being held underwater as he attempted to save a stranger but I tried to come back I saw someone near the 613 just where you say help me as me try to so I give you my arm and we were both like this so you're like trying to go out I saw my like if there aren't enough surprises being dished up in the water lifeguards can expect plenty of action on the sand over the years you generally get a lot of pranksters come down to Bondi and think it's their one-kilometer stage there's so many people here and they can perform in front of thousands up in the tower I could see these people walking around with this fake snake and think you know how's this going to turn out three visitors from Bangladesh are in Australia to make videos for their YouTube channel our brand is a big snake bring its way to swing that snack other people and screaming like snacks snake in their home country these pranksters have enjoyed huge success with their big snake prank but how will this classic stitch-up go down at bondi amazing the pranksters may be laughing but not everyone is getting the joke annoying I think was annoying never know here you know that's it someone it the pranksters next target is the 8c someone you don't want to upset you know then I saw him go up the EIT and thought all this good go pear-shaped with the a-team thank you he's getting a little bit more cranky in his old age yeah so I'm just hanging there in the zone for myself being a good lifeguard watching this incredibly dangerous piece of water and [Music] [Music] well I think I got in well because he look lawyers flaring off and he had the snipers if he is gonna and I played rapid round while their next startled or startled and I'm pissed off then I see the bright side of it and then I'm happy it's like that little boy JC's emotional journey may not be over just yet I'm from Bangladesh you know our students and I think one thing that had off me [Music] next time on fondue I rescued these participants attacked in front of families and locals at North
