so besides the packaging what's the difference between these hoses obviously the color but what does that mean functionally what does that mean for me as i'm using my rv hey there welcome to gander flight i'm joshua today we're going to talk about rv water hoses so you've got an rv and now you need to get a water hose do you go with the traditional white water hose or do you go with the ever popular zero g style and if you go with the zero g do you choose the blue one or the black one what's the difference let's get into comparing the blue and the black and see what the differences are and which one you should choose for your rv [Music] so let's see what the weight difference is between these they're both 50-foot hoses the blue one is a half inch diameter and the gray one is 5 8 inch diameter 3 pounds 8.6 ounces 4 pounds 7 ounces fifty foot of the white hose is five pounds thirteen ounces and before we get into testing these zero g water hoses go ahead and hit that subscribe button if you like rv related content and wanna see more so let's talk about the zero g hoses a little bit the 0g hoses have a truflex inner core with a g-force woven fabric jacket around the outside the gray ones which you can find at most home improvement stores come in a 5 8 inch diameter the blue ones come in a half inch diameter now i got a hold of technor apex and i asked what's the difference between the rv marine hose and the garden patio hose that i found at the local big box store and they said there's no difference it's just packaging it's the exact same hose inside color is exactly the same originally i thought maybe the rv was a deep navy and this was more of a light blue but we've got them both and they're the exact same color so if you find the garden patio one or the rv marine one they're the exact same thing just pick up whichever one is cheaper now all these zlg hoses are lead safe drinking water safe and manufactured with fda sanctioned materials i specifically asked about bpa and they stated that they do not add bpa to any of the hoses so all the hoses are drinking water safe whether it's the gray ones or the blue ones and even the zero g pro hose which is a three-fourths inch diameter that is bright green is drinking water safe according to the website so they all have aluminum couplings which are crush proof up to 1800 pounds and it's important to note that they are aluminum because all of the boxes on the bottom say detach from normal metal hose bibs and faucets at least three times a year you want to do that because aluminum and other metals can sometimes interact when they're exposed to water and the elements and so you want to make sure that you open those threads up and reconnect them at least three times a year so besides the packaging what's the difference between these hoses obviously the color and the diameter of the hose 5 8 for the gray half inch for the blue but what does that mean functionally what does that mean for me as i'm using my rv well let's put this through some tests and figure out if half inch or 5 8 inch makes a difference in the performance when you're using it with your rv now i don't have a tape measure that goes to 50 feet so i did uh two 20-foot sections and then this is the leftover the blue half-inch hose is exactly 50 feet and the gray 5 8-inch hose is a little over 51 feet in length without water that's a really good idea before you connect anything to the spigot that you open it and let it run flush out some of that water that's been standing in the pipe from the source some folks even choose to sanitize the spigot before they connect their water now this is a pressure regulator this is the most ubiquitous pressure regulator you're going to see in a campground it's set between 40 and 50 psi from the factory and you cannot change it it's not adjustable so i'm gonna put this on there as well just because it's more realistic of what you're going to be using with the rv so in addition to the pressure regulator i've got a y i really like these because we'll send one hose to the freshwater hookup on the rv the other one we'll have just a secondary hose that we can use to wash off after a muddy hike or give the dog a bath and then these quick coupling links are awesome because it makes setup and tear down so much easier what i like about these is that they're open there's not a there's not a ball valve in there that gets pressed when it only lets water through when they're connected which means that when i disconnect everything all the pressure releases and the water drains out as i'm packing up camp and for all the gear in this video i'll leave links in the description box below so you can go check out examples and prices at current time so we're going to start with the 5 8 inch grey hose we got water flowing through here stop watch ready see how long it takes to fill up a five gallon bucket [Music] we've got one minute and 16 seconds on the 5 8 inch gray hose now we've got the half inch blue hose let's get water pumping out of [Music] here [Music] one minute and 21 seconds with the blue half inch hose now just for the sake of comparison i want to try the fill test with a more traditional white drinking water safe hose this is two 25 foot lengths coupled [Music] together [Music] [Applause] [Music] 51 seconds on the white drinking water hose now for the sake of clarity this white hose is several years old these zero g hoses i open today so it's not to say that the flow rate might not change after these hoes have had some pressure on them a while and opened up slightly just wanted to point that out now the quick connects do a really good job of keeping o-rings in place however it's always a good idea to keep a few extra hose o-rings around because when one of these breaks or gets lost you're gonna have a heck of a time making sure that all your connections are tight and not leaking so stick a few of these in a ziploc bag and toss them into the bottom of your water storage container and if your very first thing off of the spigot at the campsite does not have one of these screened filtered o-rings definitely grab one of those it collects a lot of stuff from the pipes that then does not get into your pressure regulator or have to be filtered out by your filter which makes everything last that much longer so as far as hooking up from the spigot to the rv there's several different mindsets and and ways that people do it one of the common ways is to put the pressure regulator and the water filter just off the rv and then the hose from the spigot into those the idea being that the filter filters out everything and all the stale water that was sitting in a hose as it comes into your camper the other way to do it is to put the filter and the pressure regulator on the spigot side so that the whole system stays clean and pressure regulated that's the way i like to do it i like to put a little coupler with a spring on it from the spigot then we go into the pressure regulator the pressure regulator into the filter then into my hose and from the hose it goes up into an elbow it goes right into the camper now that elbow is super important because it takes some of the pressure off of the connection point into your camper if you've got something sitting out horizontally perpendicular to the side of the camper the farther out you go the more pressure gets put on this point the fulcrum at the camper so by having that elbow extension on there we limit the amount of pressure can be put on here because most of the pressure is going down not out and using it as a lever now the zero g hoses are not rated for hot water use but hot water what does that mean that's pretty subjective right so i got a hold of technora effects again and i said hey what does hot water use specifically and they said industrial uses and something such as emptying your hot water heat at your home you wouldn't want to use a zog hose to do those things however they said normal everyday temperatures and the temperatures that a hose would reach sitting out in the sun with water in it are totally safe to use with the zero g hose now these are the first zero g hoses that i've ever used so i can't speak to their long term durability i found several reviews of using them for three years that the people making the reviews were super happy with the performance and the longevity of the zero g hoses they do come with a five year warranty and zero g says if you've got a problem within the first 90 days take your sales receipt and go back to the place you bought it after 90 days give their customer service a call and they'll get you fixed up with their 5 year warranty now the zero g pro has a 10 year warranty however that's a three-fourths inch diameter hose bright green and i don't think with the added expense weight and you really get much for that extra extended warranty but it is an option now the aluminum couplings at the end of the 0g hoses have an 1800 pound crush rate however if you do break one or does start leaking according to the website you can put replacement couplings on the zero g hoses you would just cut it off and go through attaching it just like you would a normal replacement coupling let's talk a little bit about storage of the hoses you can wrap them up in a bundle like normal put a bungee cord or a tie wrap around them i've seen a lot of people use electrical hose reels to wrap up the zero g hoses because they are so flexible you could use an h wrap or you could just dump them into a five gallon bucket that's the method i like because if there's any water left in any of the parts and pieces it's contained in the five gallon bucket and doesn't get all over the inside of my harvey storage compartment now i just want to reiterate again the rv marine hose and the porch patio recreation hose are the exact same hose i had a little bit of trouble finding the rv marine branded hose and you may too but remember the only difference is the marketing on the box so if you can find one or the other it's the same hose inside the box so practically speaking what's the difference between the blue zero g and the black zero g well about seconds one pound and a color that's about it so ultimately it comes down to personal preference a lot of folks you like using the blue one for drinking water only never touches anything but drinking water then they'll go ahead and grab a black one to use for a black tank flush or just an extra hose to have around camp for washing things off not connected to the camper now a lot of folks will ask what kind of length do i need in water hoses from my rv and the honest answer is it depends depends on where you're going depends on where the connection is on your camper oftentimes 25 feet is going to be more than enough to connect your camper to the spigot but then there's going to be times that you're going to need 40 feet and then there's going to be those campsites where you need 60 or 70 feet to get from the spigot to your camper it's often recommended that you have several hoses in varying lengths that you can couple and connect to make work for different situations the nice thing about the zero g hoses is that they fold up and compact so small that in that five gallon bucket that i store my water stuff in i can fit a hundred feet of hose plus all the filters and fittings whereas 50 foot of white hose doesn't even come close to fitting in the footprint of a 5 gallon bucket and remember when you leave your campsite it's best practice to shut the water off at the spigot that way if there's an equipment malfunction there's no pressure on the lines you're not gonna come home to an rv full of water or a campsite that's flooded well there you go guys there's a difference between the blue and the black zero g hoses i hope the information in this video helped you out if it did click that subscribe button and
