[Music] so we're about to see the blue eyes Samurai to tell me more about how this project came to be uh this was an original um script and Story by uh Michael green and Amber noomi and they came uh to me with the script and in reading the script I just felt so drawn to the character and the environment and everything about the script and I hadn't been back in animation in a long time and I thought this was such a wonderful opportunity to come back to animation to to really do adult animation in which we don't do here in the west very much right and when you think about animation in the west usually is for children right it's not usually necessarily seen as for adults I left animation for a long time to be in live action and now you know got pulled back into animation for four years doing this with that being said is there a difference like did you notice a huge difference between what you did then and and with this project in terms of Technology yes there's I mean technology is amazing like back in the day we were doing paper right now there's no paper you have to like scramble to find scratch pieces the paper right so the technology has changed quite a bit but the storytelling the pipeline the people the management I think is still quite the same what was essentially your goal with this film my goal is to show audience that you can tell complicated wonderful deep stories in animation that animation is not just for children and that you can take animation and broaden it so much so that's what I would love the audience to take away and I'm curious about one thing um so this is a series as opposed to like a animated feature film was that something that on your part or was it something like on Netflix's part this was this was always U Michael Amber's um uh wish was to make this episodic and so we have eight episodes yeah and um we're going to be screening the first episode today did did you get to work with the actors no because we the whole entire show was up during Co so everything was remote and after we finished it now we have the strike so no so any last fin did you like to leave our audience with so they can watch the film the series EXC me the the series airs and drops on November 3rd on Netflix and um put it in your queue and I hope everybody enjoys it right it was a pleasure talking to you J thank you so much okay one question yes okay how long it take you do your it took my team about two and a half hours wow wow AES I'm G thr that out it's amazing thank they did a Wonder job they did the blueeyed Samurai and tell me how this project got was born how was this project born well this project actually has been I don't know over 15 years in the making you been talking about we've been talking about it a long time um it was actually inspired by our daughter who was born with blue eyes unexpected to both of us and we realized that you know it would have been a an oddity in Ado period Japan to see a half Japanese person like that coming around and we just SED spinning the tale what it would have been like to be mixed raced in Ado period Japan good answer I'm not going that and how did the story develop from being inspired by uh your your daughter to this adult animation uh a series it really was the idea of uh trying to tell that we didn't know what to do with the story for a really long time and then just the idea of doing it in television animation for grown-ups which is a new genre that's getting bigger the audience for animation is bigger more sophisticated and and um luckily Netflix agreed and said we should do that yeah earlier I was talking to director uh Jane and we were just discussing how when you think in anation especially in the western audiences is usually uh reserved for like children or or or you know kids and it's uh for to see adult animation in this way it's it's like you said it's a new genre it's a new thing usually when people think uh animation for adults they think comedy great comedies um but it's a it's a wider audience and there was just so much more out there and um everyone was really excited about trying something new it a new original story and we wanted a kind of new original medium we didn't know how else to tell unless we drew it I'm curious uh this is a series as opposed as to like a feature film was that a decision made by Netflix or was that something that you guys decided to make in that was something made by us yeah we want yeah we had we want a a long Arc for our characters and we hope it hope it continues for a while y this is season one of we hope uh whole bunch to continue on to season two and on I wish you guys the best of luck and congratulations CU I know they're showing For the First Time episode one here so we can't wait to see that any final message you like to leave our audience with uh in order for them to watch November I mean November 3rd and add it to your must watch list and thumbs up that's all we can have that's all all right thank you much okay all right thank you very much thank you so much [Music] guys for
