[Music] the blitz club was loads of fun it was just this sort of feeling of joy when you went in there that you were part of this little funny family it felt as though you were on a hilto skelter with a bunch of paper dolls who changed outfits at the drop of a hat throwing boy george steve straight oh it was like um a farce so much had happened in the 70s who was going to take responsibility of the next decade and we thought we are and it's going to be different everybody was playing games with their sexuality with their clothing with their identity we were the first people of our generation to actually not wish we were straight it was a club in the 80s that influenced a huge huge number of people it was a place you went to to hear new things it's the first time you'd really hear david bowie or roxy music i felt that there was an artistic message in music and musicians and our hero [Music] this is sort of um pulsating fall to the floor electronic car to get you dancing i'm not trying to inside anybody but the fact is i hated the music it was like all that electronic crap like a german election she's a model and she's looking uh [Music] you can't think of any other thug where so many artists and people who went on to mecca and mega starred i mean shady was going to the blitz [Music] we all knew that this was a genuine creative hub everybody really dressed up you realize oh my god this is my try on a tuesday night no one over the age of 21 go on to shape the next decade blitz to the 80s blitz kids story saturday the 13th of march at nine on sky arts [Music] how would you define the secret then of a successful nightclub lovely you're looking at me
