welcome back to my channel duct tape mechanic in this video I'm going to show you how to install and set up the blink outdoor 4 camera system so if you like this video make sure you subscribe to my channel for more DIY and tinkering videos all right so here's the blink outdoor 4 camera system that I purchased and what was the reason that I purchased this mostly because of the price and decent quality um I already have a ring uh doorbell but the ring outdoor cameras that are Wireless are $100 a piece and for me to get three of them uh that's 300 bucks while this one here is 165 plus they throw in this uh mini wired camera I mean I don't know how good this will be but uh this is extra but 165 for3 with um and if fact if I can get decent um uh uh quality out of this that's fine I don't need to dish out the extra 140 or so bucks um for the ring system and I'm completely okay with being in two different universes which pretty much means I have to open up two different apps but it's okay um so let's get to it this box here has three cameras as I mentioned it's got um one power adapter One USB cable one SN module three mounting kits lithium metal batteries and that's it uh the batteries are not rechargeable but they do this one uh is it states that the battery life is supposed to last 2 years so that's pretty good um so let's see how everything looks and uh how to install this thing installation instructions Pretty much telling us to download the blink app and add these devices so very similar to um ring I suppose this is what the cameras look like kind of sleek I got the I went with the black color options pull it out so the one thing I did like about Blink over um ring is that it's capable of external memory storage so you don't necessarily have to buy um whatever their monitoring system is called um you can just store to a USB um so that's nice especially if you're away from home all right so it's also got this quick start guide as well I suppose this is probably the mounting hardware yeah that looks like it's the mounting hardware and the batteries it's kind of interesting I believe this mounts on with just a single screw but we'll see and it's got some Energizer batteries so that's pretty good all right so in the first step you're going to go ahead and download the blink app then it's going to walk you through the instructions basically it's going to ask you to plug in the sync module and uh when you do that um pretty much a green light will turn on and they'll ask you to scan the back of your sync module um obviously there's a there'll be a QR code there I just have mine blocked for security reasons and uh after you do that what you're going to do is you're going to hold down the reset button which is this tab right here and the module will go and it'll give a a red light and after that um the bottom green light will turn on and the blue light will begin to Blink uh I forgot to shoot this part forgot to film this part so I'm coming back and refilm it after it's already hooked up that's why the blue light it's not blinking but during the initial setup um you just have to hold down that after you've um scan the QR code you just have to hold on that tab right there and um your blue light will start blinking and the green light on the bottom will be solid and that means that the sync module is ready to pair with the app all right so after that um the app will ask you to enter your Wi-Fi uh password and then after that you're free to add your cameras and uh you can add them by pretty much just um turning this uh counterclockwise with you can also use this thing that comes with it but you can also just use a screwdriver just turn this thing counterclockwise it'll pop the back off and that'll allow you to uh install the batteries and it'll also have a QR code which you could just scan into the app and it'll just automatically add the camera to your system uh it takes about 10 it takes about maybe 30 40 seconds because it may do a firmware update but uh yeah if you're curious to see where the battery goes it's just turning this quarter turn clockwise and popping the back panel off and you you'll have um two spots for the battery and in the middle would be a QR code that's how you add it to your system and you should do that for all three of of them so one thing I did notice is that this gasket right here um does get a little bit warped um when you're take taking it off and back on so make sure it's positioned correctly so it'll seal otherwise uh your camera is not going to last for very long in the out there in the elements so that is something that you need to be aware about um it does come off pretty easily just kind of peel it off but um you do need to make sure that it's positioned correctly cuz mine was kind of turning as you just saw um as I was uh taking this off and putting it back on so it does need to seal properly so that is something see kind of right it's pretty easy to move around and you just actually peel it right off but uh you do need to make sure that it's um all properly um set when you put the back panel back on so it should look something like this where it's completely flush um when I try to tighten down um it before there was a little bit of a gap between these two pieces that's because the gas had it kind of folded over on itself I don't know if you saw that on the last uh my daughter's in the back over here riding around her bike so making a little bit of extra noise so I do apologize for that but uh yeah so I've added all three cameras now it's pretty much onto the next step which is just uh mounting where you want them I'm going to mount these it comes with uh two mounting screws then uh after that you just pretty much just push it on to the Mount and it's that simple all right so to install this what I did first was I kind of did like a dry install where I just kind of put the camera where I wanted it to go and then I open up the app and see what it was shooting and how I could adjust it then after that I'm just going to take this off the base once again and then screw it on with the screws that way you know I don't have to I don't have too much unnecessary screws in my house or necessary holes on my house once you find your desired location all you got to do is just drive home these screws and uh you don't really need a drill or impact driver CU they go in pretty smooth after that all you got to do is just pop on the camera and that's it for the install all you have to do is repeat that process for the remaining two cameras after setting up the cameras you basically have two options you can either purchase the blink um subscription program or you can actually just put a USB drive into the module right here and it'll record for you and that's my favorite actually my favorite part about this blink system is the external storage otherwise you have to buy um like if you have ring you have to buy their uh subscription so yeah I would say it's a pretty good system um it's uh fairly priced quality of the video is pretty good on top of that the external storage in my opinion makes it worth it so if you found this video to be helpful make sure you hit the thumbs up sign
