In Blender, there are two primary  modes for working with objects. Object Mode and Edit Mode. Object mode is the default mode of blender.  In Object Mode, you can select and manipulate   entire objects as a whole. This includes moving,  rotating, and scaling objects, as well as applying   transformations, duplicating objects, parenting  objects, and accessing object-specific properties. Edit Mode is used for editing the geometry  of objects. You can manipulate vertices,   edges, and faces to modify the shape  of the object. This mode is ideal   for modeling and refining the details of the mesh. Switch between Object Mode and Edit Mode.  Press Tab to toggle between these two modes. You can change modes using the Mode  selector in the 3D Viewport header. you can also press Ctrl-Tab to bring up a  pie menu around the cursor for faster access.
