everybody's Chris from welcome to the first knife video of 2019 and for those that were confused about yes I am so going to do things other than knives so don't worry about that so this knife I now understand what it's like to be on the other side of that screen especially with like the bar crafters and stuff like that because this knife is something that I have wanted one of these for a very long time I don't have any hookups on these I don't have any discounts I don't have any freebies I don't have any connection to the company if I want to get these knives I have to get it like everybody else does which is shell out money for it now in the in the handbook of the rules for life there's two things that you don't ever want to just try you don't ever want to just try heroin not a good idea second thing you don't ever want to just try is Microtech so we're gonna be talking about my new micro tech ultratech that I just got which unfortunately I know right now this is not gonna be the last one so I get it I guess and we're gonna be talking what I do know I'm not in micro tech expert I know some stuff but I'm gonna be giving you my impressions of owning my first micro tech and all the little different things that go along with owning a automatic out the front knife so if you want to find out more about this bad thing and unleash your inner John wick don't go away [Music] [Music] okay first of all I am aware that there are certain controversies throughout the internet and the knife community microtext name comes up a lot I'm not touching on any of that I don't care it's just I don't I stay away from dumb drama I'm talking about the knives themselves I first actually held a micro tech jeez years and years and years ago at river's edge cutlery in Columbus Ohio and that was actually one of the combat Troodon that was the one I was originally going to get but once you step up to those bigger ones you jump up at least a hundred bucks and that's when I was feeling the pressures like geez why don't I start with like the one that is considered to be like the the mainstay to staple the one that most people start off with which is the ultratex but I will get our combat Troodon because that's that's that's the John wick knife it's awesome and after watching some more videos I got out of halo 2 I first time I ever saw halo is on 24 season one [Music] [Applause] an average businessman with a Microtech halo in his car this one this one is what I think is the best bang for the buck it's the middle of the road it's just the right size it's not too big it's not too small so this one the ultratex keep in mind that they have all sorts of different blades different blade shapes different Steel's different grinds you get double edged single edge tanto point drop point partially serrated serrated on both sides I mean there's so many choices to choose from the ultratex are the double actions so means you push it push it it pops out pull it back it goes back I'm not going to get into all the mechanics of how that works cuz honestly that's not my area of expertise they do have a proprietary fasteners which I've seen some people complain about they like to just take stuff apart me I wouldn't mess with that a glass breaker on the back nice deep carry pocket clip serial numbers all that good stuff my first real double action out the front I don't even think you can find those anymore blade AG used to sell tons of them they were called the Lightning out the front they write 40 bucks and they're just fun to play with but when it comes to micro tech the reason why micro tech is so popular among people that collect micro tex is the fit in the finish and the tolerances are like second to none I mean if you're gonna get an automatic knife Micro tag is gonna be the first thing anybody's mouth I know there's a scene a lot of videos or people are interested in the benchmade infidel but after a lot of research and reading it seems like most of the comments said they still like the micro tech better plus the micro tech is going to have a lot better steals as opposed to the bench maids d2 and you will notice when you look at these different micro Tech's and Mac in some cases what I've read is you're not even entirely certain which steel you're gonna get you almost have to talk to the dealer to verify that they use a lot of bowler steels there's m390 what's some of the other ones l max is a big one mine happens to be l max but either which way it's gonna end up being a really good steel I now put some pictures on the screen here just some varied micro tech ultratex that I looked at I mean there's just so many options for me and for a lot of other people it's just one of those knives that's on your got to have at least one list now you got had at least one dark timber you gotta have one at least one micro tech you gotta have at least one of this or that I'm not saying you need it but they're just so much fun and they're so nice and I did test to see if I got think I brought some paper I hope with me whenever I'm looking at it a brand that is new to me I always take a look at the edge and I was very impressed with the fine sharp polished edge that this thing came with I did not touch this whatsoever with a ceramic rod or anything I mean it was just about perfect as you can get right outside of the box so just a little notepad here this is some thicker paper - oh I'm actually slicing two pieces of paper but yeah it came with a very sharp fine edge no burrs whatsoever it's really really nice now let's talk about you know what most people talk about in the comments and that is you know legal issues now keep in mind anything that I say should not be constituted as legal advice cuz my ass ain't a lawyer hang everybody with two brain cells to rub together knows that the legal restrictions on automatic knives are ridiculously outdated like from the 50s or something like that because let's face it the opening doesn't make the knife more dangerous or deadly or whatnot this is a perfectly legal just about everywhere zero tolerance which opens just as freakin fast using a different set of mechanics so does is this thing somehow more deadly than this now of course not it's stupid and I'm happy to say I've started to see where some states are starting to catch up with the times and get rid of that restriction now one knife that I have which I'm a big fan of that you've seen me mentioned before is like that that Kershaw launched for it's got the it's really small and if I'm not mistaken that thing's even California legal just because it's so small that's a good one for like wetting your whistle for automatic knives but we're not talking about that oh my god you mentioned Kershaw a micro tech video I know I'm a troublemaker but we're talking about micro tech which is pretty much universally known as the king of automatic knives especially double action automatic knives so getting to the legalities of it some people in the comments section I've done on the simpler ones like the launched series from Kershaw which trust me those things the bigger ones those things do not even open as fast as a standard assisted opening knife so if anything this should be more legal but people a lot of people are scared to buy these and sometimes you can't even depending on where you live you might not even be able to buy one and have it shipped to you but it comes down to this well why would I want something if I can't carry it well it to me it depends on where you carry it first of all I can I carry a knife in my house all the freaking time I'm always playing with my knives if I'm out in private woods I'm carrying a folder in my pocket there's lots of places you can carry it if you're not in the city if you're not causing trouble if you're not doing bad things if you're not in a state house or a courthouse or something like that there where's the problem generally speaking again not legal advice from what I've seen the only time you're gonna get problems first of all cops don't have magic noses that they're gonna smell you at 200 feet but the only time people get nabbed with stuff like this is if they're already doing something else that's bad and then they find this on you then they might tack that on it too but just use another knife if you're going out in town if it's not legal in your state and again you don't have to get this at all it's just for people that that are interested the people that want it I mean technically speaking automatics are not legal in Ohio yet to carry them my understanding is you can own just about anything you have a paw as part of your collection it's in your house whatever so yeah don't think because you got a micro tech in your drawer at home that you know a Blackhawk is gonna appear over your house and SWAT teams gonna rappel through your window because I mean we just like knives we're not using these to go out and do bad things to people and eventually hopefully the laws are gonna catch up to modern-day reality because again it's absolutely freakin stupid that we even pretend that this is somehow bad when I can walk into a frickin knife store anywhere and pick up something with an assisted opener that opens just as quickly so I'm not gonna sit there and pretend like this is something awful or bad it's just a method of opening the knife what you do with the knife is up to you kind of really annoys me I I wish it would speed up I like that that states are starting to relax all that restriction on automatics but I wish more would do it I wish they would do it faster because let's face it it's just another method of one-handed opening and that can be useful a bunch of different ways so I am very pleased with my first ultra tech again I don't think I'm the first one to say this if you're dipping your toe in the Microtech waters ultratex are probably where you want to start now they do make smaller ones mostly ultratex are gonna be in the $200 range you know and there's so much variance based on based on each individual knife but most of these I want to say that I forget what I paid for this it was like a lower mid to hundreds maybe to 40 ish if I remember correctly and once you get up to the bigger ones then they jump up into the 400s and then even to the six hundreds the most expensive one I'm not talking about the customs but just in general and this is one of the ones that's on my list there are the Halos those are the big ones and those are single actions so you fire them and then you got to pull a bar out to recharge it and reset the blade but the double actions they're just they're the most fun now I will say that the button here it's very grippy but if you're sitting there just playing with the knife at least on this one in particular it is kind of rough I mean if you if you got this new knife and you're playing with it constantly does start grating on your thumb after a while but it's made that way for a reason if you act if you need to fire this knife you want to make sure that you're not slipping so you're definitely not gonna slip with this so basically the problem that I'm having right now is the same problem that a lot of my viewers have when I start reviewing things like bark rivers is I now have my own form of knife crack and I don't have any kind of hook me up send me a micro techno review it nope nope homie has to pay for it just like everybody else so you really got to think about budgeting and all that and like is there a knife that I need to sell on a forum or a group because I'm not using it but my plans are at the very least what I want to purchase over this coming year is I want to get like a halo 6 I want to get a micro tech combat Troad on the John the John wick knife and I'll probably get one of the I want to say they're UTX off top my head that are smaller than this the other one that I would that was debating about before I went with this one is at first I was trying to debate between the combat Troodon and the cipher so the cipher is actually about the same size if not slightly longer but it's more smooth it's like more of a city knife it's thinner doesn't have a bunch of rough edges they've got so many freaking cool knives and this may just be for entertainment purposes for most of you because you don't you don't need one or you can't afford one but it's good to look at and it's good because it's good to watch because this is my first impression of actually owning one not just picking one up and store which I've only held like maybe two of them honestly and I don't I don't have any friends that owned any nearby so am i happy with the purchase am I happy with the money that I spent on this yes I've always wanted I just always wanted one I've had I've had cheap ones and trust me I as much as I like my launch which ones do I have I've got the launch for I've got to launch five and I have to launch six love all those knives put the launch five in the launch six they're just those types of automatics don't fire the same way as these do they don't fire as fast and in most cases launch for being the exception because the blade shorter they will never fire as fast as a perfectly legal assisted opening knife so that's my that's my thoughts on that you know tell me in the comments below what you think if you have a micro tech try to keep all the dumb drama out of it because I don't honestly care I care about the product itself now some of the one thing I will add here at the end and I have no experience with this but it's just something that I seek um comes up a lot now these are because these are automatic knives they got Springs and you know people do dumb stuff or for whatever reason sometimes maybe something could go wrong with it and again no experience with this but it's commonly parroted online they say the customer service for micro tech leaves a bit to be desired at the very least it's kind of slow but you know make your own call on that make your own decisions on that bottom line is I always wanted one of these and now I finally got it and it was stupid because now I know for a fact that at some point maybe soon or maybe later there's at least three more of these that I have to get so is this something that you need nobody needs it nobody needs it this is for nice people that want it most people just as happy the goal fashion assisted opener but if you are interested in these and you want to know what I think about them again I have no contact with the company I did not get this as a review sample I did not get a discount I bought it that's my opinion on the night there you go folks that is micro tech ultra tech comes in a variety of flavors it's like the baskin-robbins of automatic knives I of course went to one of the places that I know best that this is one of I mean they were there where I got the idea when I asked Jason at DLT is like what are your biggest sellers outside of bark river and he's like no bark river Benchmade and Microtech those are some of the biggest ones that they get do so much repeat business I'm like well people are buying them maybe I should be taking a closer look at them so I got it from there obviously ships fast I'm gonna have a link in the description box below not to this one specifically but also just to the micro page micro check page in general and then you can just look through them all alright so that's all I got right now crystal prepared mine 101 thanks for watching be sure to click a like share and subscribe I'll be back with another video very soon so see then
