Bills' 1st AFC East Title in 25 Years: 4 Years in the Making

[Music] like we're ready to go back on the field we think we're gonna get a three and out now i stand up grabbing my helmet like ready to go on the field and all of a sudden jerry goes backward and the ball's out and i'm screaming it tuck it tuck it tuck it tuck it tuck it touch the foot don't lose the football it was just like no no no no and we were all yelling at him from the street like get down get down get down get down took the football tucked the football and he was holding it like you know like mike vick in his hand he was just making the play i said oh my gosh wow jerry james then jerry made the turn start ahead for the end zone inside the 20. he might go go go go next thing you know he's in the end zone now we go crazy i think i tweeted immediately at all caps jerry hughes deserves a touchdown stepping up lost the football that's loose and jerry hughes has it at the 35-yard line jerry who's still on his feet still [Applause] right and we talked about him being the longest tenured bill i'm just so proud of him how he's really evolved and grown into a leader for us and uh how he supported everything that i've tried to do as a head coach a sac is not good enough we want the ball everything we do is about the ball we always talk about getting the ball away from the quarterback with that tomahawk chopping trays was perfect man it was textbook so i figured if he made all that work at least i could do is go ahead and put an exclamation point on it the fact that one of his brothers was there to help that play and become something special um just means everything the connection that we have i know it's next to none we all came in this thing together 17. like guys like mike getting myself trained for four years hardships that we've gone through it's super bowl not three years from now this year well i would say it's a special year fakes the handoff josh allen downfield going deep again he's got a man wide open john brown he makes a catch touchdown touchdown isaiah mckenzie touchdown gabriel davis touchdown cole beasley cole beasley to gabriel davis how about that fires downfield picked off intercepted ternavius white to throw he is sacked and the ball comes out did the bills have it yes they do oh he lost the ball buffalo takes over cam newton coughs it up mice was uh pittsburgh i thought pittsburgh would never lose two in a row gonna throw it fires it is picked off intercepted by karen johnson in midfield running down the right side line he's gonna score that took the cake right there yeah seattle seahawks intercepted picked up by jordan poyner in the end zone gonna keep it himself runs to his right gets inside the five into the end zone touchdown buffalo josh having that only took one play the thing was weak freeing is the rams game you know when you're up to 28 three and you have a couple turnovers you let the other team back in and most teams fold in that situation 21 seconds left two timeouts left for the bills they're down by four they need a touchdown now the snap josh going to throw it looks looks fires into the end zone he's got tyler cropped open touchdown touchdown touchdown buffalo josh to tyler croft for the touchdown 15 seconds left on the clock [Applause] kidding me are you kidding me you got to figure out who you are there's one quality that i take over any any piece of town out there that's the part you guys got it man it all started with honestly us trusting coach he says what he means he's the same guy every day he gets in the building and guys really appreciate that about him that he's not switching up he's always saying the same things over and over way to be 111 humble and hungry finding a way still a little meat on the ball right and i like the way he calls everybody men when he refers to the team yeah he's like men you know you did a great job a damn resilient group a bunch of resilient men right here men and women in fact i can't tell you how proud i am of you guys man if he's like in detail of something like with a lot of passion he'll just stop completely what he's saying and then go man i got the chills thinking about that right now it's giving me chills down to my bones in my blood i got the chills you know as this coach he's not a phony he's not a gimmick he's just a real person it's truly what he means it's playoff caliber now championship caliber it stresses the process and that process is work hard improve every day and gradual improvement will get you somewhere coach mcdermott i see my building sometimes i always tell coach i really appreciate you taking a chance on me is your first draft pick he picked me to be his first pick to try to come in and turn this thing around i don't take that lightly coach talks about it all the time that that mentality of of being a teacher and really you know working with our players to be the best version of themselves obviously part of the success we're having this year coach has been preaching for years like we take care of our guys we're family josh allen keeps it himself gonna try to run to the corner of the end zone he dives in yes touchdown after the play was over unsportsmanlike conduct offense number 17 for spinning the football of a player listen he's a good kid i'll talk to him absolutely excited that doesn't make him a bad kid he's a competitor man i like that i know all right thank you guys i got him did you know i was coming over did you know i was going to come over hey listen i'm not i'm only coming over to say that if you get another one you're disqualified that's all just so you know sir hey i like the swagger though damn it that's a great drive baby that's a great job were you impressed by what you saw out of the josh tonight no not at all allen looks looks guns it downfield strike touchdown josh allen weave into the end zone touchdown buffalo his arm now fires into the end zone caught touchdown buffalo still on the move josh allen put a pylon in another rushing touchdown you know josh allen they win the east he gets the hat and he gets the t-shirt josh allen says quote understand what's at stake though understand what they're there is out there more for us this hat's fine and dandy this hat and shirt is fine and dandy i'm the one that says super bowl chance josh allen has gone from being a talented kid to a bad mother you know there's no yeah but when it comes to josh allen he is the quarterback that we've been waiting for for 25 years [Applause] yeah i'm new to this team so i'm really just you know investing in an ambulance with everybody and you know i got a young quarterback that's balling you know these quarterbacks that can play at that level are hard to find it just continues to get better you know my favorite moment is every week when josh allen goes out there and he proves the doubters wrong more than lamar more than kyler more than deshawn watson this guy has shown a lot of people on national tv i don't need to prove it to you anymore i just have it really smith talk 2017 [Music] [Music] so i don't try to jump into people's faces and scream and yell you know i say a couple words and always finishes with win everything to get to number five went on three one two three four number six this week well three one two three i think his his focus on on one game at a time and how he's approached the season and how he's done it since he's been here that's the type of guy he is that's the type of leader he is you want that type of mindset from your quarterback or from your captain and it's back to being passionate about the chase i kind of got this thing where he drops back to pass i know he's throwing it like he means it that guy is wide open and by the time the camera gets there it's just like that the guy is running wide open josh allen taking a deep shot the separation from diggs and he's got it i can go on and on about how great the guy how good of a teammate steph is but the duke can flat out play rolling to his right looks looks fires touchdown stefan diggs somehow brought it in fires left side stephon dix makes the catch touchdown buffalo fires it quickly caught at the 14-yard line by diggs dave's inside the five headed to the end zone he is in touchdown buffalo josh hammond got it to him in a hurry and diggs did the rest of the work for the touchdown you can ask my my wife or my kids i say it absent-mindedly i don't say it on purpose every game at one point i say i cannot believe that stefan diggs is a buffalo bill let's get serious a busy monday night late monday night fox sports jay glazer tweets that stefan diggs has been traded to the buffalo bills the bills get the wide receiver that they've been in the market for for quite some time it's time for a new beginning how are we doing look good it's weird because in the beginning you know i came here with a mindset of just trying to earn the respect of my teammates and respecting my coaches you know you're developing those relationships and you start to lean on guys in training camp when you're tired and you're just grinding and you're trying to make things happen well as the season started i was out there always encouraging my guys you know we would have a little low or we won't have some success and i will always be pushing forward as in we just got to shake it off or push forward and somebody make a play and diggs coming here it just unleashed a different swagger it just took us to another level just the extra bit of fire guys just want to be great because they see greatness jason brent cannot hang with stephon dix it's also making everybody else's job easier and that's why he's special not only can he step up and say when we need something come to me but everybody else they started making plays josh lots of time got a man wide open digs into the end zone touchdown buffalo digs boots the ball into the crowd here at the hard rock stadium stefan diggs with his first touchdown for the buffalo bills well diggs and josh are literally brothers they are best friends they are complete clowns they joke around they have the most fun you guys also bonded over playing video games together and i don't know why that's funny but maybe it is staphon what can you say about the bond that you've created with josh but also with this team you're bad he's bad no no no no i'm actually the great one but in the beginning uh he was playing before me got a little jump started out on me so i was like a little shaky and i used to get down and warzone so he should be right there to pick me up oh all right that's my guy man i got a free ticket to watch them play man it's impressive to to see them you know it's like they're playing madden out there first down at the 18-yard line josh in the gun makes a hand up fires a strike it is caught at the five into the end zone he goes stepped on diggs touchdown buffalo that's too easy play action allen hit as he throws able to complete its digs and taillights time diggs is looking back touchdown it's a 50 pass play from josh allen here's alan being chased and throwing and it is oh god that's stefan diggs matt barkley being in this game says a lot about where it's been 38-9 the buffalo bills have absolutely completely dominated and it's time to run out the clock the bill's getting their 12th win of the year and they sweep the patriots for the first time since 1999. so we just finished up watching the the bills absolutely trounce the new england patriots on live television in front of the whole country we've been here through the whole drought we've been here through through it all and now you know it's our turn and we're ready last night was december 28 2020 and it was the night that the bills called off the dogs on the patriots that sean mcdermott took his boot off of bill belichick and if i am a buffalo bills fan breathe this and eat it drink it smoke it do whatever you have to do this was history uh michael you guys are one sort of hail murray completion away from a nine-game winning streak when you hear that what do you think of um you know what this this is kind of crazy to say but i'm glad it happened ready to go cardinals first down at the 43 the snap murray pressured bill's rush four murray's in trouble gets away from it rolls to his left fires it downfield puts it up for grabs and it is caught caught caught for a touchdown unbelievable caught by deandre hopkins surrounded by a couple of bill's defenders he went up and brought it down unbelievable one second left on the clock after that game you know we went to the box really reflected a lot on that play that play happened you learn from it you move on i definitely think it made us stronger as a unit as a core group i mean you can go back to 2017 the things that we've gone through to continue to make us who we are right now this team has earned so much trust from me like i don't get nervous that's a fan like i'm not scared of any team that's gonna you know um come into orchard park or where the bills have to travel to just i'm not i'm not afraid that that part of my bills fandom is over with now i'm i'm not afraid anymore i can't describe it yet because i haven't experienced it i haven't missed a game in 20 years no i've been to every game at home in 20 years [Applause] we understood what's going on for us trying to be safe and things like that but when you used to going going to those games every sunday and doing tailgating and and having a good time watching our bills that was tough that was heartbreaking for me there's the same people at the tunnel every single home game with the same signs the same jerseys everything and from not seeing them but like this year it just hit different honestly i was just happy we had football because even around the draft and through the summer you had to wonder like are they really going to be able to do this can they pull this off when you saw how all the sports were gone for so long i was just happy to have football back period and the good thing is is that in a way it felt like they had been here the whole time oh yeah bill's mafia man we we stick together the fans fans are are the best we got the best fans in the nfl yeah bill's mafia was made for this moment that's a great way to put it because we grew out of social media [Music] this season no matter what comes along with it in terms of whether we can attend the games or not attend the games you know what at the end of the day who cares the bills are good again we have so much ahead of us as fans motor gets to carry and singletary charges up the middle finds room he might go he's at the 30. he's at the 25 he's at the 20. he's at the 15 10 5 touchdown motor singletary touchdown buffalo up 51 yard touchdown run there you go that's that's our that's our saying right there the buffalo bills are champions of the afc east for the first time in 25 years and they did it in high style there is no discounting this buffalo bills football team right now none at all what are the emotions like for you now knowing not only the work you've put in for four years but also what it means to the fans uh so this title division title you know i just got i just got the chills i just got the tunes you asked me that question um you know such an awesome fan base we only have fans in the stands but we we feel them the fans are probably already lining up at the airport to greet you guys when you get back what's it gonna mean for you i know you talked about earlier not being able to do this in front of the fans but to see them when you get off the plane just what do you think it's gonna be like it's gonna be a party [Applause] ah so they talked about it and i was like uh i'm like that's probably not even that many people here they just talking as we taxi in and like we can start to start to hear it and then we peek out and finish his fans i've never experienced anything like that not in high school college since i've been i've never experienced nothing like that [Applause] well my first impression of getting off that plane is all of us got our phones out started filming the fans we became fans of the fans give you remember that drive out oh yeah yeah [Applause] it was a feeling like no other because we felt this experience last year and it's been a whole year since we've seen the fans like this at that moment like i forgot that the fans were like weren't there the entire season from something just as simple as a sport it can just bring so much love and joy to a community and a city the love that the fans have for this team is literally tangible those fans aren't legends you know it's reality i was thankful it felt like good energy it felt like i can't imagine what it's what stadium would be like there is the added dimension of this for the bills with respect to a home playoff game there will now be fans in the stands after new york state put forth a plan for the bills to enact in bill stadium and they are doing that and now there will be 6 700 fans at the wild card game we're glad that we're going to be able to do this and do it together we are all so excited about the bills and i know this there are thousands of bills fans money no object right they would love to be in that building tell them we're available to lead the charge also if they need somebody to bring the team in we're you know we're available for definitely available for that you know and i you know it sounds corny but 6 700 fans or whatever the number is it's gonna sound like there's 73 000 there and that's not with the canned noise like those fans that are there will be loud and the players will feel it mckenzie backpedaling feels it at the 16 yard line dodges two men starts up the middle now to the right side at the 30. at the 40. isaiah mckenzie on the run at midfield in miami territory got to beat the punter he gets around him he's at the 20. he's at the 15-10 five touchdown touchdown touchdown buffalo isaiah mckenzie goes 84 yards for the touchdown it is just absolutely astounding to see how far the buffalo bills have come from 2019 to now at the close of the regular season of 2020. but when we get into the football world it's just like we just let loose nothing else outside of this building matters and we're just like a bunch of giant kids playing pop on our ball at the highest level looks like he had digs if he wanted he's got a better option it's lee smith the blocking tight end who's having more fun than these buffalo bills you have fun you play well this is backyard football yeah i think they just they really love one another you know they play hard for one another they stand up for one another and it's fun to see it all come together like it has in the locker room the guys that you can go up and talk to and have fun with nobody's going to tell you that you're wrong or that you did something wrong and point fingers it's a collective group that genuinely wants the best for each other and just once wants to win football games i think the biggest thing really is just that i can do for my team and and and us here is just try and facilitate an environment whereby our players and our staff can become the best that they can become and we all have to have a common goal and play for a common purpose unbelievable man unbelievable four years man four years to make it right here baby four years to make it man [Applause] [Music] he always shows emotion but not that emotion it just took us to a different place like uh it honestly just and just brought us closer and i hugged trey and i said trey like it took us four years bro it took us four years you know coach is a coach is a brilliant thinker he likes to think ahead of us so you see as we already have achieved his milestone he's already one step uh he's getting ready for the next opponent that's how you got to be and that's how this team is that's why we're able to accomplish such great [Music] things [Music] i'm a little hungry right goes a long way there's a long way we're about ready to start the second season and we need to put ourselves in a good everyone do what we want to do
