But not just for fun, they have an important mission. They need to clean up the chapel in the village near their home. That's where the girls are headed with all the necessary tools. And while Marichka is cleaning the inside, Halyna is planting new plants in the flowerbed. People often come here to pray and be alone with God. It has to be clean, elegant, beautiful, so that it is pleasant to be in the chapel. There are various flowers growing nearby that need to be watered. Inside the chapel there are many artificial flowers that need to be changed periodically. Numerous icons stand on ancient embroidered towels. Anyone can come inside to pray. Halyna's family makes sure that everything is always in order. When everything is done, you can have a little rest and talk. But no one rests here for long, because there is still a lot of work to be done. There is a bench near the chapel where you can sit down and enjoy the scenery. Ed joins the women. He has his own work to do - to repair the fence around the chapel. And when everything is done, they can go home. The chapel in the village stands high on a mountain, offering beautiful views. After returning home, the women start preparing dinner. Inna goes to get the potatoes, which are stored in a dark, cool barn. The new potatoes will appear very soon, but before that, they have to finish last year's potatoes. Today everyone is in the kitchen - Halyna, Inna, and Marichka. First, they have to clean up, wash the dishes, and put them away. While Marichka is wiping the plates, Inna is peeling potatoes. It's quite cloudy and cool outside, so they want something hot. Everyone here is busy doing their own thing. But no one interrupts anyone. Amidst all the daily chores, one shouldn't forget to water the plants in the garden. Mariia hurries outside to water the greenery and flowers. This year's spring is quite dry, with little rain, so the plants need extra moisture. Now Marichka is gathering firewood for the stove. The wood is well dried, so it burns quickly. To make the stove burn quickly, the wood needs to be chopped. Marichka is good at this. In the village, everyone knows how to make a stove from early childhood. If you do it right, it's completely safe. The potatoes are already on the fire and need to be boiled. Inna immediately adds salt to the water so that she doesn't forget about it later. And Mariia continues cleaning. She wipes the dust all over the house. The Hutsuls say: "remove the dust". This means to wipe the dust everywhere. Inna is grating hard cheese at the same time. The girls do not interfere with each other at all, but each is busy with her own work. While the girls are preparing lunch, Halyna is cleaning the stables. She takes the cows and the horse outside, and at the same time takes the manure out of the stable. The cattle immediately find fresh grass in the yard. Of course, the cows eat not only grass, but also hay and special feed. But it's the grass that they like the most right now. It's young, juicy, crispy. A real dessert for cattle in spring. Cows also need minerals. They get them with salt. The yard is surrounded by a fence, so we don't have to worry about the animals running away. But this fence needs to be renewed from time to time. It's good that there is plenty of building material around. Today it is cloudy outside, but still quite pleasant. So everyone is enjoying the good weather. The villagers spend a lot of time outdoors. There are no industrial enterprises around, so it's nice to walk around. But there is always work to be done outside. For example, now Halyna is getting rid of weeds. These harmful plants need to be removed along with their roots so that they do not grow again. It's hard work, and an unprepared person would have a bad backache afterwards. But Halyna does it almost every day, so she is used to the strain. But it's good to have helpers around. It's time to go back to the kitchen. The potatoes are already cooked, and Inna is mashing them. But it is not yet a ready meal. Flour and corn grits are added to the potatoes. A few fresh eggs need to be added as well. Meanwhile, Halyna is collecting cream from the milk. Today we will have potato casserole for lunch. It is a delicious and nutritious dish. The ready-made mixture is laid out in an even layer in a baking dish, covered with cheese. And another thin layer of potato and cereal mixture is put on top. Hutsuls often prepare dishes based on vegetables and fermented milk products. While dinner is not yet ready, you can make tea. The potato pie is already baking, and the girls have time to drink hot tea. It's so nice to just sit on the porch in the afternoon. But there is still a lot to do in the kitchen. We need to get back to them. The pie is ready, it looks very appetizing. But to make it even more delicious, we need to melt the butter. Everyone gets a piece. The dish smells delicious. Ed tries the potato casserole first. He likes it very much. It can be eaten with melted butter or with sour cream. Dinner in this family is always spent in interesting conversations.
