Best Wheel & Tire Cleaner?? BATTLE!

what's the best wheel and tire cleaner well you guys are about to find out as we're gonna put four candidates up against each other uh in a real world test on a daily driven vehicle that hasn't been cleaned in about a month so we're going to assess their cleaning performance on both wheels and tires we're going to talk about the value proposition so what are the costs also are they available in different formats can they be diluted so on and so forth and at the end we're going to pick a winner so the candidates are the atoms wheel and tire cleaner we then have the turtle wax wheel and tire cleaner followed by an all-purpose cleaner so generally used for of course all purposes but for wheels and tires in this case so that's optimum power clean and last but not least we have the pns brake buster so four very strong candidates that i personally use in my detailing arsenal and while we're about to find out well is there a winner in there which one is the best how do they perform but also the wheels and tires now are done with one product that you see behind me so instead of using a dedicated tire cleaner and a dedicated wheel cleaner so that's two steps well more and more now companies are coming out with a one product does it all so it saves you on time and money of course so guys you know the drill i know you're excited to see this so let's go ahead and start the show [Music] so hey guys i'm pan welcome to the show i hope you guys are having a great day so let's dig right into it but before we go ahead and do so if you're new to my channel and you want to continue you have to do is sit back relax and enjoy the show so as i said today we'll be comparing four very popular wheel and tire cleaners by the way guys quick disclosure this is not a paid review so no company paid for this video however the brands did send me these bottles for me to use in previous videos so i have them now for this test so we have three products that are clearly meant for wheels and tires and we have an all-purpose cleaner uh because well a lot of people like to use those for interior use and exterior use so if that's your kind of thing we're gonna see how well an all-purpose cleaner compares to the other three that are dedicated wheel and tire cleaners so what we're gonna do is we're gonna use a real world daily driven vehicle that hasn't been cleaned in about a month now so let me show you that on camera to see what we're starting with so in my area i have a brand new home in a brand new development so the homes are still under construction and the roads unfortunately aren't paved yet so a bit of mud a bit of dirt and a bunch of gunk there that accumulates so even though we're june right now at the moment of filming this video uh the vehicle can still get quite dirty as you can see hopefully on the wheels uh so they're not extremely caked and dirty so it's a perfect candidate as well for these kind of maintenance claims that we're showing today obviously we're going to be going through a few steps to make sure this is not a scientific test by any means uh this is more a real world just fun test for me to show you and give you my opinion but essentially we're going to be doing the same steps so we're going to first start by pre-rinsing with a pressure washer or you can use a garden hose if you don't have a pressure washer as long as you have a good enough flow of water and then we're going to be spraying the product on the wheels and tires liberally we're going to let that dwell for about a minute to see if it can start to pull out any of the browning or the blooming on the tires and any dirt particles on the wheels themselves and then we're going to lightly agitate using a few brushes so one for the inner barrels one for the outer faces and then a smaller brush for those nooks and crannies and the lug nut bolts and stuff like that and once that's done we're going to rinse the wheel and tire and then we're going to do a second application of the tire and wheel cleaner uh to see if there's any browning left on the tires because the second pass ideally should have only white foam indicated that all the dirt and grime has been pulled off and all that browning that we don't like on tires [Music] [Music] so let's have a closer look at the final results with the atoms wheel and tire cleaner we can tell that it left an even finish on the tires so it pulled pretty much all the browning and blooming second pass was maybe needed just to make sure everything was really off uh the wheels are extremely clean has a nice pop to the finish and uh yeah overall just a very good job at both cleaning the wheel and the tire no issues there no major residue left behind and very little agitation needed with the other brushes and you can get a decent result [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so let's now have a look at the final results once again with the turtle wax wheel and tire cleaner once more here it left an even finish so uh both products so far did a great job cleaning the tires and wheels i pulled the browning and blooming quicker than most with lots of foaming action and very quick to react on that dirt and grime clean the wheels pretty well as well so once more very little to light agitation needed to do a good job it left a nice bright finish on the wheels as well uh the only thing that trigger form sprayer it works great for foam but you're using a lot more product but overall great job [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] okay let's have a look at the final results more in detail with the optimum polymer technologies so it was an all-purpose cleaner uh it did an okay job at cleaning the wheels and tires however in my opinion uh this is a product that did uh the worst of the four uh not saying that it didn't do a good job because as you can see it cleaned the tires and wheels pretty well but i feel that the tires could have needed uh probably a third pass to remove all the browning and get more of a uniform finish i don't know if you can tell on camera but for the wheels it did an okay job as well just bottom of the pack in my opinion as far as wheels and tires [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] all right let's have a look at the final results with the pns brake buster so overall fantastic finish on both the wheels and tires it pulled pretty much all the browning and blooming and all the dirt and junk and all that crap off the other rubber with the first pass so that was pretty good very clean wheels as well nice finish that it leaves and so overall you can also dilute this product if you want to use it in a pump sprayer for maintenance washes so great job on both wheels and tires so guys based on what you saw right now before i pick a works well let us know it's always nice to have a sense of community and share what works well for each person right let's discuss each product now one by one so if we start with the atoms wheel and tire cleaner let me give you a close-up shot of this label in the front hopefully you guys can see this well so the atoms wheel and tire cleaner comes in for 16 ounces like this 14.99 usd these are the most up-to-date prices as of june filming this right now they're all available on amazon and other places as well but i looked at the prices on amazon so if i look at my sheet here 16 ounces 14.99 so that's 94 cents per ounce in cost but you have to know that the wheel and tire cleaner from atoms is also available in a gallon size or 128 ounces and the gallon comes in at 44.99 usd or 35 cents per ounce so you get a better deal however this is still the most expensive product of the test today regardless if you get it in a gallon or 16 ounce format and they don't state that it can be diluted so as far as is it an economical choice not that much it is the most expensive one of the bunch um what else so it doesn't necessarily it can't be diluted at least i don't see this anywhere on the label or on the atom's website by the way all these products are safe to use on clear coated oem finishes for the other finishes either right to the company or do some tests in inconspicuous areas but basically if you have factory wheels you should be good to go they're all alkaline based cleaners so none of these are acid-based so they're very safe once again for wheels and tires and again they clean both the wheels and the tires it did a very good job at cleaning both the wheel and the tire and overall yeah it didn't leave any bloomy patches it left an even finish and it did quite a good job as far as the tires are concerned i feel that on the second pass to see if it removed all the browning and gunk and junk uh it maybe have needed a light third touch it's very tough to say on camera but in person it did a good job with the first pass i think a second pass was definitely needed with this and so yeah for the tires a good job overall but perhaps two passes instead of one next we have the turtle wax wheel and tire cleaner so this one here is the less expensive of the bunch you get a huge quantity 23 ounces at 3.97 usd for 23 ounces and that comes up to 17 cents per ounce so the less expensive one of the bunch however because of the way the foaming trigger works you're using a lot of product this is not available in bigger formats at least not to my knowledge at the time of this video uh and you cannot dilute this either at least they don't talk about this on the bottle so yes it's the less expensive by a long shot compared to the others um however you can dilute it so that's a thing to note and also you're using a lot of product for every application because of the way it comes out i wish it would fan out a bit more but overall great job on cleaning both wheels and tires this one here probably pulled down the browning the quickest so it is the foamiest by far so if you want something that has a lot of foaming action to pull up all that dirt and grime this is the one that really does it and again it pulled that browning out of the tires a bit quicker than the others and it did the cleaning of the tires in the first pass so overall great showing by the wheel and tire cleaner by turtle wax next optimum power clean so this is an all-purpose cleaner meant for interior and exterior use you can dilute this in many ways but it says in the front that you can clean wheels tires engine bug and grime interior and exterior all in one there's a lot of dilution ratios that you can use they recommend three to one for exterior use such as wheels and tires and five to one up to ten to one for interior use as well or lighter jobs so i used it at a three to one dilution in this test uh this here is 17 ounces uh and thirteen dollars and nineteen cents u.s uh for the 17-ounce bottle so that means 78 cents per ounce uh this also comes in a gallon form by the way so optimum power clean in a one gallon format or 128 ounces this is 38 38.88 cents u.s uh so roughly 30 cents per ounce so the second most expensive product in the test uh and it is to be noted that even though you can dilute it while it's still expensive compared to some others in this test and as far as cleaning the wheels and tires it was well the less strong performer they all did a very good job by the way but this one just left the wheels and tires a bit dirtier definitely not as much foam as the others as well i didn't feel that it pulled as much dirt and grime from the tires on the first pass it wouldn't foam as much and well even if you let it dwell like we did never let these products dry by the way on the wheels or tires i work in a controlled environment here at roughly 20 degrees celsius or 68 degrees fahrenheit and a steady 40 to 45 humidity uh but basically yeah so it didn't do as good of a job i felt for cleaning and removing all the dirt and grime from the wheels and tires compared to the others so this is still good for somebody who wants a versatile product that they can use both on the interior and exterior of their vehicle such as a pre-rinse as well before you start washing your car or doing a hand wash this is a fantastic product to have so overall a great apc same goes for all-purpose cleaners like super clean uh extra tough there is a bunch of good ones so they do a decent job of cleaning wheels and tires but overall i think the other three performed a bit better in my opinion in that specific task last but not least we have pns brake buster so this one here comes in for 16 ounces at 995 us so that's 62 cents per ounce so uh not too bad but where it gets interesting is that it's available in different formats so first of all you have it in a gallon size so 128 ounces here if i can show you that front label and this gallon comes in at 25.75 usd or 20 cents per ounce so this makes it the second less expensive product in the test and it can be diluted so if you have a pump sprayer a foaming pump sprayer like an ik foam pro 2 that i like to use i dilute it three to one you can even use it in a foam cannon so in a foam cannon container i typically will use sixty percent of brake buster and 40 of water and you spray on so that's perfect for maintenance washes but yeah it can be diluted and you also can get it in a quart size so like in a bottle like this right so three different formats are available again you can check the links in the description for all the appropriate sizes uh but for me so overall breakbuster did the best job uh overall on the wheels and tires it pulled all the dirt and grime and browning on the first pass for the tires and it just did an exceptional job i know it's sometimes it's hard to see on camera but visually it gave more pop there's some rust inhibitors as well for wheels over time so that can be good it's not something crazy major that will prevent rusting absolutely but it does help and it mimics the acid based wheel cleaners although this is an alkaline based wheel cleaner so safe on all oem clear-coated wheel finishes so talking to dave back in the day the chemist over at pns he said the important fact of this was he wanted something that acts like an acid-based wheel cleaner so very tough on that brake dust uh but was still gentle on the wheel so this is an alkaline based wheel cleaner one thing is to be noted though both the atoms wheel and tire cleaner and the pns wheel cleaner the 16-ounce bottles they come with some crappy sprayers that clogged up and would spray just a stream instead of a fan so something like this one here which was on uh both of them i know there's a shortage worldwide of stuff now during covid uh so maybe that's the reason but uh basically uh they both clogged up so i had to replace them with better trigger sprayers and once you do that they're fine but that is to be noted so they could have done better on that but if you get the quart size for the pns it comes with this what seems to be a tolco sprayer can i show you this there you go so that is uh made in taiwan and much higher quality these are one of my favorites for ergonomics as well but on the base 16 ounce bottles well a lot of work could be done so now guys if we're to make a top four so i i know that's what you're waiting for which ones uh well how do i rank them right so in first position well it is pns breakbuster this also took first place in my 2020 card detailing products awards video uh by the way for the best products in the detailing industry so my top three picks for every product category if you haven't seen that yet go and check it out by the way uh the 2021 edition will be dropping probably at the end of august or beginning of september so stay tuned for that but in first place for me it's pns brake buster for many reasons uh did an awesome job at cleaning the wheels and tires available in three different sizes is very economical if you get the bigger sizes like the quart or especially the gallon size and it can be diluted up to three to one in a pump sprayer or even in a foam cannon so very versatile in its use very good to break down that brake dust and if you're using this for maintenance cleans all your car as wheels and tires should be looking great for a long time so number one brake buster in second place the surprise newcomer here um i tested this on the rv detailing video that i did recently and it just surprised me at how well it cleaned the wheels and tires how quickly it reacted that foaming action on the tires it removed that browning and blooming super quick very fast and it was the less expensive for the smallest bottle of the bunch so quite economical however it's in second place because you can't dilute it you're spending a lot of product on a wheel that's its only main major downfall i find and also for the trigger although it's great foaming action well i think that's the reason why you're spending a lot it doesn't spread out or fan out as much as i would like uh but overall solid pick so in the second place the turtle wax wheel and tire cleaner especially in the u.s hard to find in other countries sometimes but in the us at under four dollars per bottle it's a steal so that's in third place uh in second place in third place is the atoms wheel and tire cleaner so this one here you can get it in two sizes the 16 ounce and the gallon form did a very good job at cleaning wheels and tires as well uh perhaps not as good as the others at least in the test as in the two first so pns brake buster and the turtle wax wheel and tire cleaner for the browning on the tire um and perhaps needed a second pass uh however still solid candidate uh you can get some great stuff if you're getting the bigger size however it's still the most expensive product that's why it's in third place so although it does a good job at cleaning well i think it's a overpriced compared to the others that's in my opinion but if it's in your budget it is a great product this had also taken i think third spot in my 2020 car detailing products awards video so still holds third spot overall um is doing quite well i don't think you can dilute it at least they don't mention it so if you guys have tried diluting it let me know in the comment section under the video if that works well it's always good to know and uh last in fourth place it is the apc of the bunch the all-purpose cleaner this is the optimum power clean so i think it was it came out to being the second most expensive product of the group uh the the um second to last yeah so the second most expensive after the atoms this one here if i look at the notes even in gallon size at 30 cents per ounce yeah so the turtle wax was less expensive per ounce and the brake buster was less expensive per ounce and it didn't do as good of a job in my opinion at cleaning wheels and tires so yes it's more versatile than the others because you can use this on your interior and your exterior you can dilute it three to one five to one ten to one different dilution ratios um depending on what usage and of course is it heavy duty medium duty or light duty use that kind of stuff so if you're looking for versatility again available in a gallon size as well so that can be practical if you're a detailing professional but as far as cleaning just the wheels and tires in this video it came in in fourth place so overall the wheel was still clean the tires as well i think it would need definitely a second pass on the tires and note that they weren't super dirty as well so on dirtier wheels and tires perhaps you would need more than than a pass obviously uh and definitely you'd need agitation so decent job but the other three did better and that's one of the reasons why it's in fourth place in my opinion so again i remind you this video was not paid for it's not a paid review but the four companies sent me these products for free for me to try out so that's a quick disclosure always being transparent again
