welcome to the den of tools hi there guys and gals it's blue yep red's older brother i'm back again from the great white north coming down here to help you again pick the top ten or so you know space heaters you know not everybody has a nice big you know warm toasty fireplace like i do here so we got here some of the best space heaters that you can use to keep your shop warm and toasty this winter so let's jump into it shall we all right the first thing i want to talk about is some of these heaters that people always think about when they think space heaters that's the propane style heaters you got this forced air jet style they also have these ones that sit on top of just like a plain old propane tank you you do not want to use these for your shop i know red tells you every year i tell you every year don't do it these things are not made for indoor use all right they put off carbon monoxide and you're going to end up killing yourself every year i see some headline some numbskull sits there and and powers one of these things up in a closed environment and they pay the ultimate price and we don't want to hear i seriously don't want to hear about any you ending up like this all right so listen to the bear he knows you want to get yourself something that lists specifically that it's indoor safe i mean i don't i guess like someone's got to tell you some people don't know but you stay away from propane heaters unless they say specifically they're meant for indoor use okay a couple of the other items that we're really not going to cover here because they're a little more you know entailed in what you got to do and that is pellet stoves now they're mighty fine don't get me wrong you get a lot of heat out of one of these things they work just like one of them they're pellet grills and they're they're very easy to use they're simple they got you know your air outtake there and the exhaust and all that good stuff low air higher and it'll it'll warm up a place just fine uh they're a little bit of pricey and but they also take a bit of plumbing to put in you got to have venting for that stuff and the same goes with one of my favorites which is the old you know cast iron wood burning stove i love these things don't get the bear wrong this is one of my favorite things and maybe one day i'll get one of these set up in my shop but until then i mean you got to have you got to have a proper pad on it you got to have proper backstop behind shield it from heat and whatnot and you got to have proper venting they're a fine solution not nearly as expensive as those fancy little pellet stoves but again requires a good bit of additional work you want something right now we can just plug in and get going so we're going to talk about some of the newer hot things speaking of what's new and hot yeah i'm wearing one of the new shine on shirts that red designed there he he sent me one i guess it's pretty spiffy i i like it anyway they're going to start showing up down below the the video there there's a whole link thing down there of different products and merch you can buy i don't know if it's showing up yet but if you click on that it'll take you over to the store and you can get one of them over there we'll try to put a link down below by the way links to all this stuff of course is always going to be down below now this one a lot of people when they think electric shop heaters this is what they think about and we're going to talk about two in every category so this is forced heat now these come in several different wattages you got 5000 watt 7 500 watts and 10 000 watts now here's the deal the most amount of power you can expect to get out of your typical 110 circuit is gonna be like 1500 watts so when you're getting something 10 000 when you get one of these bigger ones you're gonna need some some heavy-duty wiring done either you're gonna have to bring in an electrician or you're gonna have to be pretty smart when it comes to the sparky stuff yourself all right these are nice units don't get me wrong they got the remote control they got all the other kind of stuff but again you're gonna need to have these things permanently wired in there's nothing you're gonna plug into the wall that said if you want to go with another forced air kind of solution we're going to talk about the vornado here now vornado is known for making some pretty good fans and all that stuff they blow things all over the place but uh they've got those typical it's got little wires in there that that glow all cherry red and they they blow the heat around the shop for what are these things to go for looks like about 77 if that's the kind of solution you want that's great they have some pretty good reviews i'm not a huge fan of them but some people like that type of heat the other thing we got we got what's called panel radiant heaters all right these are things they're flat they they exude heat they don't have any kind of air or anything force anything out of it they just radiate the heat out into the room yeah i'll kind of like you know one of them there radiators anyway you can get one of these the delonghi mika things there for for 99.95 they're very well rated i mean look at this 2 800 reviews it's got what 4.1 stars uh these i've used tons of these things and of course the old school ones if you've been around a while like the bear here has uh the you know the ones that look like an actual radiator they got oil in them that gets heated up they do they do a pretty darn good job it can take a while for these to heat up a room all right but they they've got tip over safeties you knock it over it turns off uh they're not stupid hot to the touch if you brush into them not something that you want to lay on or put stuff on remember we don't want to burn down our shop or nothing like that this one you can get for 49.99 and there's an extra 20 off coupon on that so that takes it down quite a bit now these are some of the least expensive heaters that you can buy and they since they work off kind of a pseudo mass heating kind of thing because they heat up the oil and the oil then radiates the heat they they are fairly efficient now the next category we have are ceramic heaters so they've got little ceramic pads and such in there that heat up rather than just like metal wire coils and such they and they give them off a slightly different kind of heat the you get your small basic one here for 34 35 bucks and again we got a coupon here extra 10 off on that one these are small these are gonna be small areas this is like say you're going to sit on your bench or something like that that's going to warm you up in a very localized kind of area now if you want something a little bigger you get yourself one of these tower systems like this nice thing about these is they're set kind of like the fan system like you see on these well they'll swivel around and what's that cat doing he's praying to the heat gods guess anyway oh yeah it comes with a remote control and all that good stuff so this is more for like your room heater versus space here you got five bucks off takes it down like 75 dollars all right then we got the the infrared systems and we're going to talk about first up we got the classic wooden cube one that we've been they became popular about 20 years ago and uh they're they're nice little things you can roll them around they're they will heat up an entire room this is kind of a high-end one all right this is the doctor infrared heating system and it uses a quartz uh heating tube it's got tip over protection it's got tons of little controls on it and whatnot this is a nice little setup here now on top of that it's also got a built-in mist humidifier thing so one of the problems when you heat is it dries out a room well this will add some of that moisture back into a room if you want to do that you don't have to do that but this gives an option now these things these little cube infrared heaters they vary wildly in price you know this is kind of on the higher end down on the lower end you can get one of these all metal cabinets they look it's got a remote control it can slide under a bench it just puts out all the heat out the front like that the rest of the box stays entirely cool you know you could you know you could set stuff on it it won't burn it up or anything red's got a really cheap one he picked up at walmart or something like that years ago it sounds like it's got a tumbling bag of hamsters or something in it but he probably needs to get that thing replaced anyway these some of these can be some of the nicer ones are pretty quiet some of the more inexpensive ones can be a little bit loud so just consider that all right that covers our basic four food groups if you will of electric space heaters now we're going to get some variables in here so this is one that i'm looking at right now it's the heat storm deluxe wall mounted so it's very similar to these box kind of style heaters we were talking about before but it's in a wall mounted situation so it's up out of the way if you get a lot of wall space to using the floor space is at a premium this may be the option to go for you has a little remote control thing zone heating that kind of stuff this can be used you know this one's this is a smaller room kind of heater here now they have other options we can step up to this one here which is their big you know wi-fi mount look at that's the other thing this one's wi-fi because of course we need bluetooth or say wi-fi access to everything i i know i laugh i kid but think about it you're coming home from you had to make a run to the home desk pot and whatnot and you're coming back and you're about to get you know you've got supplies you're about to get to it and but it's going to be you know chilly cold in your shop well you get on your phone you say warm that sucker up for me by the time you walk in those doors you're ready to work that's not a yeah it's a little bit fancy at all but it's not a bad idea anyway so that one's gonna get you a little bit more heat this is gonna heat a larger room uh and of course you have the more options on it with the with the wi-fi control now here's something to consider this is a wall-mounted panel heater you can put this on any clear panel in your house or in your shop it's easy to mount and it just plugs in and it just radiates heat right out into the room this can be another one of those options where you want to heat something up but you don't want to take up floor space or something like this you can use it in all sorts of situations to get some warmth into your shop without taking up valuable space now if wall space is a premium this might not be the option for you all right now here's the kind of you know if you like that homey kind of feel like i like that wood burning stove look but i don't want a plum for wood burning stove this is again another take on the infrared heater this is essentially the same thing as one of these the difference being that it's made into a little box with a little artificial flame no you're not going to be cooking any s'mores on it or roasting any hot chocolate up on top but it does look warm and cozy and you can set stuff on top the rest of the cabinet stays nice and cool other than that bottom part where it blows the heat out from you get thermostat controls and all the good things there i don't think it comes no remote control with this one and we got a bigger version of that one right here we look at this this is oh come on this that thing's pretty looking it doors open at everything anyway it'll it it's quiet 40 decibels there you got the sim you know same kind of controls and it gives you that warm cozy kind of you know shop kind of look i like it but again you're going to need to take up some serious floor space for something like this all right and they get fancier you can get them in bronze and the whole nine yards and uh and if you want to go you know over the top you got the wood fireplace look maybe you can trick santa into leaving you something you know on your uh in your stocking out in your shop well anyway there you go there you have it that's blue's uh top picks for how to keep your shop warm and toasty this this winter so you stay productive out there and not have to wait till the old spring thaw before you can get back to work anyway let me know down below in the comments what you think which way you're going you going with ceramic or forced air or panel or the old tried true infrared you know that's the one that always seems to work best for us so anyway that's all we got here for you today you all take care god bless and you know what we say in the family here shine on you
