Best One Volume Bible Commentary!!??

hey pastor steve walter and i hope you're having a great day in jesus just want to talk to us a little bit about the best one volume bible commentary the reason is i get asked that a lot here on the channel what is the best one volume bible commentary and i may in the future do some comparison because there's basically four one volume i've done a video on multi-volume but the one volumes i hope i can remember tony evans is excellent john mcarthur is excellent the moody bible commentary is excellent and the believer's bible commentary by mcdonald they're all fantastic you know and this is just my personal experience i would say probably doctrinally theologically the believer's bible commentary is maybe my favorite but all four of those are going to have incredible things on them i mean now and i'm not looking so much like the matthew henry it comes into one volume it's traditionally six volumes adam clark has an abridged one volume barnes notes has a new testament commentary and those that watch the channel you know i really like barnes notes it's packed with information but of the current ones that are out there and of one volume if somebody just wants one volume man i'm gonna say that believers and i'm gonna tell you this too i just got the new edition of the believer's bible commentary and if you'd have asked me this question a couple weeks ago i'd have been kind of duking it out between macarthur evans and the moody and but that mcdonald one the believer's bible commentary i mean he's dead on on some things they're all gonna have some various nuances you know for maybe deep theology now i'm pentecostal so basically all four of those if i'm not mistaken are going to be cessationist and what that means is they would feel the gifts of the spirit in some form or fashion are either not normative or have ceased over the years so it's like anything outside the bible you know the bible you eat the whole thing helps with the bible you eat the food spit out the sticks you have to pray fear the lord's beginning of wisdom and knowledge um so like the macarthur is going to be a deep dive the moody's just going to be a good overall the evans has great theology in it too but him being a pastor a lot of practical applications and i really like you know and now just as far as i'm going to sit down and read a commentary evans the tony evans going to be right up there it's very readable and other nuances as far as print size size they're all going to be really similar and there are other one volume commentaries out there you know the interpreters does one volume some of them are condensations of others a lot of two volume weirsby does a two volume condensation of the the b series j vernon mcgee yo guys like j vernon mcgee william barclay i like that i've done a video years ago it still gets quite a few views about some of the best bible commentaries i think is the name of it here on the channel you can look at it and uh but of the best one volume you know may buy a hair because they're all four really good and you know if you can over the course of time it may be good if you've got room in your house and everything to get all for because they're gonna give you some different things and uh and so for around a hundred dollars from christianbook.com or sometimes you get them cheaper off ebay or amazon always looked under the use make sure it says like very good underused because something says very good a lot of times i get it it looks new and i've done a couple videos on how to buy what's the how the best way to buy you know books and bibles online and stuff like that just trying to give you a heads up of some of the best websites and the best ways to use very popular websites how to get the very best deal and that type thing so you know for somewhere around a hundred dollars you could get all four of these and now paypal christianbook.com does take paypal and they have a six month same as cash usually if you do paypal and so what is that six that's less than twenty dollars a month you can get all four and uh you know some of the big commentary sets anymore a grand you know a thousand bucks and even like your john phillips or you know 400 either side of 400 macarthurs or either side of 400 so i can understand but if you get all four of these for a hundred dollars you have got a lot of information a lot of practical information then like if you spend on a bible dictionary you know another 30 a new hungers a whole man of nelson's illustrated the new bible dictionary by ivp one of those but especially like the first two the new hungers is my favorite i'll just tell you you're going to be way you're going to be doing some serious bible study and then if you want to go even further get a bible handbook like a new hungers bible handbook or a halley's bible handbook and you can just be doing a lot of bible study but just love the word you know we're in perilous times looks like we're in the end time hour you know i don't know i was just preaching in sacramento pastor's wife out there said i'm just going to tell you i don't think the coming of the lord is close i just don't i'm just like that's fine i don't know i'm looking at the signs but maybe the signs have been around other times as well you know but i do want to be found occupying when he comes but so that's my recommendation of the best one volume bible commentary is mcdonald by hair some of you are gonna have other ones you're gonna put in the comments i'm quite sure of that and that's okay it's okay to disagree on these things we need the
