- A lot of people ask me, what are the best lights to get for your YouTube videos and so in this video, I break down all the different price ranges from $1 all the way up to $200 and I show you exactly what light you should buy. You gotta just press record. Hey guys, my name is Nolan Molt with Think Media and I've been doing video professionally for over seven years now and so I've used all kinds of lights, even before I got started professionally, I remember using some very cheap options and so I'm gonna share some of those best budget hacks with you in this video, but something to recognize when it comes to getting good lighting is you wanna focus on soft lighting and to get soft lighting, you really want the light to come through or bounce off of something. So having some sort of diffusion there, like a softbox or having some sort of bounce board to really diffuse that light is going to give you a soft light. When you have a bulb or sunlight coming straight onto you, that's when you get really hard light, but when you throw on a softbox, that's when you can get really soft lighting. So in this video, I'm gonna share complete set up's with the lights, the softboxes, the stands, everything included, I'm gonna share what the best lighting set up is for you. Now if you're just getting started and you have zero dollars in the bank account, then you can actually get some good lighting just by standing next to a window. Now, ideally, you want to be in the shade, because remember when the sun comes straight onto you, that's when you get that hard lighting. So if you can be by a window and it is shaded, then you're gonna get really nice, soft light and you just wanna make sure that your face is towards the window. Now if you only have $1 to spend, then 100% I would go to the Dollar Tree and pick up a shower curtain. I still use the shower curtain to this day, 'cause it's a dollar, so I don't really care what happens to it because it's so dang cheap, but this is really good if you are next to a window and you have that light coming in, maybe you don't have any white curtains or anything, you can throw up this $1 shower curtain, this is going to diffuse the light and give you really nice lighting onto your skin. Another thing you could pick up in this price range is something like a bounce board. Right here, this cost a dollar as well, also got this at the Dollar Tree and this is good for having light come onto this and bounce onto you and that's another way to get that soft lighting. The next price range is under $25 and the best light you can get under $25, we're gonna have it linked in the description below. It's a light just like this one. It's not this exact one, but it basically does the same thing and it's actually $23 and what's nice about this light is if you don't have Sony batteries, you can actually power this thing with AA batteries and so, most people have AA's laying around the house and so I'm gonna count this as being under $25, but this is definitely the best light that you can buy in that price range. Now something to consider when using one of these lights is if you point this light directly onto you, you're not gonna get the best looking image. You definitely want it to pass through something like the shower curtain. So if you pick this up for $23, get the $1 shower curtain and you're gonna get some soft lighting. Next up is under $50 and actually this is the point where you can really get a lotta bang for your buck. This is where you can get a stand, a softbox and a light and so the winner of this is this bi-color LED bulb softbox kit, linked in the description and we actually just made an entire review on this light, so if you wanna click the card, you can go watch the review for that light. Now this is such a good light for $50 because it comes with everything. So under that $25 range, you're not gonna be able to get a softbox, you're not gonna be able to get a stand, really, if you were looking for that $25 range, I would say to hold off and save up for this light because it's just so worth it. Now this light is so cool 'cause it comes with a remote and so you're able to change the color temperature. So you can have a warm light or you can have a cool light, or anything in between. You can also change the brightness of this light from 100% down to 1% and you can really dial in and this is super important when it comes to videography and getting that perfect brightness for your videos, this light really can do it all and so for under $50, this is by far the best light that you can get. For under $75, I'm going to recommend two softboxes and this time we are using bulbs, but these lights come with four bulbs and so you are going to get a much brighter look than the $50 range and you get two of 'em, so you can have a key light, as well as a fill light. Now, some of these images you're seeing on the screen right now are some of the projects that I used with these lights at my church when I was doing videography at my church and you can see that you get that nice, soft light and there's a lot of power that can come through. Now, these lights have two light switches on each light, so you can either have it at 100% or you can turn it down to 50% and of course, off at 0%. If you want 25 or 75%, you can take out the bulbs and really kinda mess around and see what kinda brightness you want and put in the correct amount of bulbs. Now, what's really cool is that both these lights, with the bulbs, the stands, the softboxes, all come in at $62. That's insane and I use these lights for so long at my church. You're really getting a lot of power and output with this lighting set up at $62. Now, we've got two more lighting set up's for you if you're looking to spend something under $100 or if you want to go for the best light under $200, then make sure you keep watching but first, like this video and comment down below. Let me know, what kinda lights do you use for your YouTube videos. So, for under $100, the lighting set up that I definitely would go for is this two pack which is exactly the same light that we talked about earlier for the under $50, but this time, you're gonna get two of 'em. So you're gonna get two of these lights that are bi-color, they're also going to be adjustable in the brightness, from 1% to 100% and the fact that you can get two of 'em for under $100 is crazy and it's really a great deal. So for two of 'em, you're gonna get them for $87, which is an absolute steal and you're able to stack them up on the same side if you want them to be extra bright or you can set them up on opposite sides and use that key and fill type of lighting, if you want to do that. So instead of just buying one of 'em, if you do buy two, you're gonna save $11 and so it's definitely a steal and what I recommend for under $100. Now if you're looking to spend $200 for your lighting set up you can actually get a fantastic light and the one I recommend is the GVM 80 watt LED light. Now this is light is actually coming in, and I'm gonna get a full review on that and you can click on the card when that comes out, or check the link in the description to watch that video, but this light is incredible because you get everything included. You get the light stand, you get the light itself and you get the softbox. Now let me explain why this light is so much better than any of these other lights in this set up. The main reason is that this light is a COB light. Now, I actually am using one right now and these lights are so nice because they get so bright. They also have what's called a bones mount and you can put on these big softboxes and what's really cool is that these big softboxes give you much softer, much flattering light than your typical small softbox that you would get something on a cheaper end. This light is really great if you're looking to light someone like this in the day time or if you're looking to light multiple people, maybe in a podcast set up or if you have someone else on your video, this light is bright enough and big enough to light both of you and so that's why I love these kinds of lights and the price range for $170, the fact that you can get this is amazing. The light that I was using was the Godox SL60 watt, the thing is, when you get the light, it doesn't come with a softbox, doesn't come with the stand, so what happens is once you get all those things and you get a C stand and all that kinda stuff, it comes up to over £350 or something crazy like that and so you can get this whole package for 170 bucks. What I'd recommend actually is maybe even getting a sandbag, which still keeps you under the $200 range and then you're completely set up, you have a fantastic kit for under $200. And these are the same kinda lights that professional YouTubers are using. So this is something that is not gonna be outdated very soon, you're gonna use this for a long time, definitely recommend it. If you wanna check out the full review of that light, make sure to click on the screen right now and I'll see you guys in the next video. (uplifting music)
