hi everyone welcome welcome back to my channel i am kristy i am so glad you're here in today's video i am sharing my little austin texas food and coffee vlog you guys i ate so much good food in austin it is actually insane how much good food exists there in that place it was my first time going i did do a pack with me for austin video where i did share a little bit about going to austin in the summer which yes is a bold choice thank you for asking but i will link that above if you are interested in watching it i am going to cover a couple of similar points here plus a few other things before we jump into that beautiful bean footage so let me grab my notes oh also if you haven't subscribed to my channel yet please do so below really does help me out i do mostly travel videos i post on tuesdays uh i try to also post on saturdays usually tuesday is a travel video saturday is usually something fun and weird so come back and join me okay my notes okay i'm going to try to get through this really fast because i want to just jump into the food part because i know that's what you all are here for you were here for that delicious food so one tip i will give is that austin is definitely a driving city we did rent a car for our time there but we were there for almost six full days you can uber obviously they have uber but i have found like in most cities uber is a little bit more expensive right now i feel like since the pandemic started like in chicago it was absolutely insane how much ubers cost so i don't know you'll have to do a little price cost analysis is that what they're called i don't know we also do a little cost analysis see um which one makes more sense for you okay this next one is a big thing so much so that i need to put my phone down so that i can talk to you appropriately so before going to austin i did not know that so many of the top rated spots there food wise especially if like tacos and mexican food i did not know that it was like a food truck food stall food stand situation which is obviously super fun love that energy they have something in austin called food parks which i have not really seen in other cities i haven't really explored much of like the west coast or like the southwest so maybe that is more prevalent there and i just don't know but it was really cool because you would go to these food parks and there would be a bunch of different like food trucks or food stands and you could like buy obviously from whoever you wanted and they had a bunch of outdoor seating where you could sit and eat uh some of these places even have like live music sometimes so it was really fun a really cool atmosphere however i did not know that this was a thing and going to austin in the dead of summer in july was a bold choice in that context i mean in other contexts too but i am not good in the heat um i do not want to sit outside and eat when it's 110 degrees outside um so while we did do that one day we actually went like one time to a taco place that was like one of these outdoor like food park situations and the food was incredible it was absolutely amazing i'm putting it in this video obviously but there were a lot of top rated places that we missed out on because it was so hot out and neither of us could honestly be bothered to sit outside and eat and we didn't want to eat in the rental car you know maybe you are a braver soul than me and can handle the heat you can disregard you will go and eat outside and have a lovely time but if you are like me i would consider maybe going to austin during a cooler time um if you are like really amped on going trying all these different taco spots mexican spots i do recommend going when it's a little bit cooler outside okay the last little tip that i have for you guys for austin is if you are going and you want to celebrate a special occasion like a birthday anything like that and you want to go to dinner do your research ahead of time and make the reservation way in advance i am shouting this from the rooftops because my friend and i were trying to find a place to go for her birthday dinner you guys you would think we were on a quest to the ends of the earth it was kind of insane um i've never seen anything like before and i've traveled to some big cities and i don't know if that's just kind of what the thing is like so many people have moved to austin in these last two years like they've had one of the largest population growths in the country i'm like maybe there's just more people and the businesses haven't like caught up to that because what i'm referring to is if you look up online like restaurants for a special occasion like we want to go to dinner for a birthday if you look up restaurants online if you ask a local if you look at like influencer recommendations they're all the same list of restaurants that are like nicer restaurants for special occasions which is kind of interesting that like from like influencers locals like a google search yelp search it's all kind of the same ones and needless to say they're booked out for weeks in advance so we did not realize this until we were there and it was like two days before my friend's birthday and we're like wait why can't we get a dinner reservation anywhere obviously in cities there's always going to be those certain restaurants that it's like you have to get a reservation they're super popular um usually a more like upscale situation um but i have never seen this where like every single one needed a reservation i was like holy cow this is kind of a lot on top of that a lot of the restaurants we went to that didn't take reservations and this was both on weekdays and week nights there was always like this long wait like we went to this asian restaurant which it was like an asian fusion restaurant it's in this video it ended up being phenomenal the food was incredible super nice atmosphere like we did not know what we were getting into but we went on a thursday night and it's called i think 1618 asian fusion i think is what it's called and we went on a thursday night and it is literally a restaurant that is in the bottom retail level of like an apartment complex so we were rolling up to that like okay this is like not a fancy thing at all um we were mistaken it was a very nice restaurant and for a thursday night the wait was over 30 minutes i was like this is so weird i just wasn't expecting that but maybe because it's like kind of a more novel concept in that area i don't know so all of this to say the food was all incredible at these places we had great experiences there but make sure that you are either making reservations where you can or you are accounting for long wait times i'm not trying to come off like i'm complaining about these things because i'm not obviously that's just the nature of going out to dinner sometimes there's a weight sometimes there's not but i think we were both just surprised that it was so hard to get a reservation um at so many different restaurants those were things that just like we could never have anticipated and i think it's just because we're not familiar with that area at all i think that's it for my tips for now we had such a great time in austin it was so much fun we went to so many fun areas ate so much good food it was truly such a fun trip so this video is gonna be a mixture of food and some coffee shops thrown in i really hope it's helpful in you planning your trip if you have any questions especially about like anything related to traveling to austin you can leave them in the comments obviously i've only been once this is my first time going but i feel like i really blabbered on for a second here about like the restaurant reservations and wait times so if you have any questions let me know obviously that stuff's not like a huge deal it obviously didn't ruin our trip we had the time of our little lives um but yeah so i hope this is helpful leave me comments below if you need anything let's get into it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] our very first stop was to one in a million an austin institution that is still owned by the family that started it 37 years ago i just love that so much we shared chips salsa and queso all of which were amazing and i ordered a barbacoa taco that was incredible as well as the don juan el taco grande which is their famous breakfast taco that consists of potato egg bacon and cheese the don juan is massive so keep that in mind when you're ordering because we both ordered it and it was a lot [Music] our first coffee stop was at flat track coffee a coffee bike shop hybrid with a cool moto theme and an incredible mural on the side of the building we started strong with the coffee here i got a plain ice latte and it ended up being one of the best coffee drinks of the trip [Music] next up we have my eco sushi lounge an unassuming sushi spot in downtown austin we each had a delicious cocktail and shared the gayoza and the smoked garlic confused shishito peppers both of which were so good we ordered spicy salmon rolls salmon and giri and two specialty rolls all of which were so fresh we truly crushed it we had a good experience here and the food was delish so don't be scared off by the low yelp reviews for service [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] opened in austin in 1984 amy's ice creams is another austin institution known for their famous mexican vanilla ice cream they have over 350 flavors of ice cream in rotation which is truly nuts when we were there they had a special stranger things menu which was absolutely adorable i ended up getting cold pressed vanilla ice cream with hot fudge because duh and it was divine okay this coffee shop wrecked all future coffee endeavors while we were in austin because it was just too good not only is the name summer moon the cutest name ever they roast their own coffee have the cutest merch and have this special creation called moon milk which is a secret recipe sweetened milk concoction that you can have in your latte and it is honestly one of the best things i've ever tasted i opted for the quarter winter moon latte which is less sweetened and iced god i want one of those so bad right now [Music] ah another legendary austin spot gordos is known for their incredible donuts so we obviously had to stop and check out the scene we decided on two to share one of the naughty and nice my personal favorite which was topped with cinnamon sugar and one flying pig topped with maple icing and grilled bacon both were absolutely fantastic but i am such a sucker for a classic so i loved the naughty and nice [Music] [Applause] [Music] it's time for another taco stop and this time we're hitting torchy's tacos a common theme on this trip is queso as it should be and we had some truly life-changing queso with torchy's like wow so good we tried an assortment of tacos but i definitely like the baja shrimp taco the best apparently they have a secret menu here so make sure you ask for it when you're there [Music] this beautiful coffee shop is located in the south congress hotel and is a little set back from the road so keep your eyes peeled for it manana is a beautiful open cafe with delicious coffee it's the perfect spot to take a break from the texas heat and get your caffeine fix [Music] okay so 1618 asian fusion totally blew us away our expectations were a little low because we were confused by our location as mentioned in the intro but the food drinks and vibe were impeccable they had a live band playing latin music and the restaurant was so beautiful and so open and airy the drinks were so delicious and we started with the five sampler which consisted of egg rolls a spring roll wontons chicken saute and seared pork belly bow buns we got a few dishes to share like their shrimp fried rice and filet mignon stir fry with onion but my favorite was definitely the orange chicken yum sign me up [Music] one more did we stop by teal house for coffee and pastries and it was the perfect start to our day [Music] [Music] i had never in my life heard of p terry's but once i heard it was an austin staple and their very own fast food chain i knew we had to go on our trip i mean everyone in austin goes here instead of in and out so i absolutely had to try it and let me tell you it did not disappoint the fries were delish and the burger was genuinely really good like i could have gone for another p terry's burger for sure end your meal with a milkshake and i count that as an austin meal well spent [Music] omg squee was so cute and they have the most incredible asian american desserts from taiyaki to mochi donuts to cheesecakes to bubble tea i really wanted to lose myself here but i kept it together they offer an assortment of mochi donuts but they seem to sell out early so we missed out on those we tried their taiyaki with soft serve ice cream and sweet clawed it was so good i got the cereal milk soft serve with lucky charm marshmallows as my topping and it was actually life oh i miss it so much [Music] speaking of losing myself you guys i just want to preface this by saying the food it sold you was unreal and we ordered way too much of it we had quite the wait for a table so we were drinking at the bar and getting hungrier by the second so we majorly ordered with our eyes and not our stomachs regardless i am still thinking about this meal we started out with sojuritas as one does as well as free soju shots from the owner for our wait we shared the bulgogi kimchi fries which were absolutely delicious but we agreed in hindsight that this could have been the dish we skipped actually we could have also skipped the kimchi fried rice but here we are um i have legit lolig as i look at these clips because truly what were we thinking anyway their duck boogie was so freaking good and the piece the resistance of the meal was hands down the chicken nuggets in their soy garlic sauce with freaking cheese fondue cheese fondue you guys the chicken was honestly unreal i miss it i also think i blacked out after this meal moving right along we ended up at forthright cafe for saturday brunch it had the cutest vibe delicious fresh squeezed orange juice and delicious breakfast food [Music] shout out to my sister for telling me about tiny's milk and cookies which was absolutely delicious we stopped here for coffee and cookies because well why wouldn't you i had a refreshing iced americano and a chocolate chip cookie and the cookie was so good and i am very picky about chocolate chip cookies so that's saying something also another customer here complimented my j-hope t-shirt and offered to sell me her lollapalooza ticket so i will remember this place forever lol [Music] okay on to a place that turned out to be one of our best meals in austin and i didn't really see it coming meze me is a turkish restaurant and if you've been following my recent series on youtube you know i was in turkey in may so this place really hit the spot everything tasted so good and was so fresh and light it was just what we needed we started with turkish coffee the fire roasted eggplant and the shikshuko with their garlic feta pita bread you guys this was truly unreal the eggplant and the feta pita bread jesus take the wheel for my entree i got the cuffed meatballs with rice esma cabbage sumac onion and tzatziki and i swear i transcended to a higher plane [Music] i expected to eat a lot of mexican food while in austin but a mexican jewish hybrid was a mashup i did not see coming their burgers are life-changing just go go there immediately try their burgers report back [Music] on our last day we braved the heat to eat outside at veracruz all natural another austin staple known for their incredible mexican dishes we were so amped to enjoy one last taco meal before we left town and we were not disappointed we shared their house-made chips salsa and queso and i opted for the migas taco which is a breakfast taco consisting of egg tortilla chips poblano pepper red onion black beans and avocado and their grilled steak taco with cilantro onion queso fresco and avocado one thing to note that i missed when ordering is that their queso is vegan so if you're allergic to cashews steer clear i myself am mildly allergic to cashews and i really regretted crushing all that queso my stomach hurt so bad for the rest of the day and night we had fleet coffee on our list and it happened to be right next door to this particular location of veracruz i ordered an ice latte with a little bit of their house-made butterscotch syrup and holy shiz it was incredible [Music] our final stop in austin was to a truly outrageous cafe called revival coffee i loved this place everything was pink bad bunny was everywhere and the bathroom was fully decorated with a weed theme like honestly vibes besides being super freaking cute the ice matcha fruity pebbles drink we got to share was delicious consisting of matcha house made lavender syrup and oat milk that is it for my little austin food and coffee vlog i really hope you guys
