hey let's talk about some of the best monitors out there for mac users welcome everybody to apple insider it is andrew here and i've been rounding up some of the absolute best hands down monitors for mac users and i've got eight of them to walk you through in this video so let's go ahead stay tuned i'm going to tell you which monitor is right for which kind of person and why they are specifically good for apple users and macs let's go ahead and dive into this it should come as no surprise that the first display on the list comes directly from apple and that is the studio display yes it does have its you know detractors out there that do not like its price for the display that you're getting but it really comes down to whether or not you want that really high pixel density that 5k display in the 27 inch design so it is a 27 inch panel 5k display 218 pixels per inch it has 600 nits of brightness it does have a built-in 1080p facetime camera that is capable of using portrait mode and center stage the display supports spatial audio and you can control the display things like brightness and volume directly with an apple keyboard it is a thunderbolt 3 display and has an additional three usbc down ports i think this display is out there for anyone who wants a premium display they don't spend a little bit more money than your basic displays you love the apple design you want a solid monitor to go with you want that 5k display you don't want a 4k display and you're willing to pay a little bit more for it so for those people you should definitely check out the apple studio display and of course it's great for apple users because it's made by apple the second display that i that i have to mention at least briefly is apple's pro display xdr most of you 99 of you out there don't need this display but it has to be on the list because apple makes this display and it's somewhat of a bargain when you're looking at pro level reference monitors yeah it's still five grand in an additional thousand dollars if you want to stand but when you're looking at other professional level 6k displays that have all these different reference modes and everything's baked into them those reference quality monitors the pro display is up there in terms of a good value it's a 6k display in a 32 inch design giving the pixel density of 218 ppi has a sustainable brightness of 1 000 nits but peak brightness of 1600 nits for that hdr content that's why apple calls it the xdr the extreme dynamic range above your typical high dynamic range displays it's very expensive this monitor is only for those people who want the absolute best apple monitoring they can get and they are fine spending five to six thousand dollars for this display the next display is one of my personal favorites it is a relatively newcomer into the world of displays and has the samsung m8 now i will mention the samsung m7 is a solid display but the samsung m8 goes even further because it's still relatively affordable but has all these extra features of being a smart tv at the same time so getting into the details the samsung m8 monitor is a 4k display in a 32 inch design which gives you the pixel density of 140 440 ppi which is honestly on the lower side a little bit and i get that but it is definitely more affordable than 5k or 6k panels and you still have all the other benefits of being a slightly larger display if you do not care about really tight pixel densities you're not looking for a retina caliber display then this is fine with 140 pixel density because beyond that it can also act as a fully functional smart tv has all these smart tv features to go along with it and you can even use it as an airplay 2 destination and works via home kit so you can cast audio and video to the m8 and use it kind of similar to an apple tv i think that's awesome so that's a definite benefit for the samsung m8 it uses micro hdmi a cable is included or usb-c for the input and there's an additional usbc downstream to connect other accessories it also has a camera in there too has a slim fit magnetic camera that just snaps onto the top and has a magnetic privacy shield so you can flip that around and cover the camera when it's not being used or just pull the whole thing off because it's magnetic i think it's brilliant but yeah so that's the samsung m8 monitor i think this is for anyone who likes that multi-purpose functionality use it as a monitor with your laptop when you want or use it as a tv if you want to go that route you can even then if you're using a laptop just turn your monitor into a television to watch stuff while working on your laptop i love the versatility of the samsung m8 to specifically call it out the m8 is great for apple users because it has airplay 2 and home kit functionality baked in and of course it works over usb-c so perfectly tuned to any of the latest macs or ipads now we're getting into somewhat more niche monitors but this is also again one of my favorites and i recently reviewed it here on the channel and that is the lg 5k 2k curved display this thing is a beast of a display and i absolutely love it so it technically is a 32 inch display though it is ultra wide so it's a super duper wide display but that curve makes it feel more uh ergonomic to use you're not having to kind of you know look so much and refocus as you're looking at the edges of the displays you keep that kind of constant curve or the same distance from your body as you're looking at it it technically has 140 ppi which i did not mind while working at it you sit at a fairly good distance away so the pixel density was not a problem for me as i was using this it's a thunderbolt display and has an additional thunderbolt downstream to connect a an additional monitor or other peripherals and there are two usb a ports on the side if you haven't have legacy devices that you still need to connect and one really nice feature is because there are two hdmi inputs you can connect two dis two devices at the same time and display them on this tv or the display simultaneously this monitor is for anybody who really wants an ultra widescreen display there are other ones out there but i think this curve is great the thunderbolt functionality is great all around us is a very nice monitor and great for apple users has a good silver design a light design with that white back very slim bezels to it and there are a lot of creatives in the mac space doing linear editing and final cut in adobe premiere or you're doing stuff in logic but anything with a very wide screen uh even coding can apply this when you have multiple stuff going on there's a lot of creatives in the space that this display is very well suited for then we have the logic clarity so a logic makes a lot of pc accessories a lot of docks and hubs and they made this one very specifically for apple users so this is a 27 inch display it is 4k resolution giving you a pixel density of 163 ppi has dual hdmi inputs there is a display port input usbc and a usb connection so if you do connect over hdmi you can connect using a usb usb b cable to power up all the ports on the display has a solid 600 nits of brightness and a logic that says that it does support hdr which a lot of the ones on here do not officially support hdr they're even including a million to one contrast ratio which i find a little bit hard to believe but even if it's close to that it's definitely above many that are here on the list this is great for anyone who wants just a solid good display and it's great for apple users because it was created with apple users in mind it has a lovely all metal design you actually see it it's in here behind me aside from all the b-roll footage um but yeah this was designed for apple users all metal aluminum sleek looking appearance to match your mac speaking of 4k displays we have to mention the lg ultrafine 4k so this is the one still sold by apple apple stopped selling the 5k variant but apple basically co-designed this with lg specifically for mac users so it's a 4k display 186 ppi for a 24 inch monitor at least rounding up to 24 inches it is a thunderbolt display lg adds an additional downstream thunderbolt port to daisy chain a second lg 4k display or there are three usbc downstream ports to connect any other peripherals that you may have i'd say this display is for anybody who wants a very streamlined mac experience but does not want to spring for nearly as much as the studio display and they don't need highest resolution as the lg lg ultrafine 5k display a lot of people don't need 5k it's hyped up it looks great but you don't need it most of you out there so if you're okay saving a little bit of money you have that very streamlined experience and that's why this is great for apple users because it was made for apple users it was co-designed with apple for the mac you have all the direct keyboard shortcuts like volume and brightness that'll control the display sports true tone and night shift and all of these lovely features make it a great display for apple users now if the lg ultra fine 4k is too small or you want that higher resolution of uh the 5k you can do the lg ultra fine 5k version apple no longer sells it but it is available and the this has the same specs for the most part as apple's studio display but it's a bit cheaper so still designed for the mac control through your keyboard all of that works great uh 27 inch 5k display same 218 ppi 500 nits of brightness apple still has some additional benefits the camera's better the speakers are better it's got more stuff going on for it but this one is a bit less money and you still have a great looking display so that's who this monitor is for again it's great for apple use because it was designed with apple for the mac finally this last one a little bit of a curveball it is the apple 24 inch imac this guy sitting here behind me it's not technically a display and apple no longer has target display mode for the imac but it is still a great display you're getting a four and a half inch display 4.5 k display in a 24 inch design giving a pixel density of 218 ppi so retina resolution and of course has a built-in camera you can use it as an airplay source it'll show up in home kit but you have a whole mac at the same time you've got a mac hiding in there you can use it you don't need to provide an additional mac to go with it so you don't necessarily you need the whole mac experience but if you're looking for something you're kind of debating between a computer and a monitor and combining things the 24-inch imac is a very uh tempting solution for a lot of people i wish it had target display mode still but it's a great display it has cameras and speakers and all the added benefits of being a mac so i think it's a relatively good price when you're looking at other uh retina quality high-end displays so let me know what you guys think i have links for all of these displays down below in the description but this is not all the displays out there let me know your favorite display over on twitter at andrew underscore osu and stay tuned i have so many more videos coming your way [Music] you
