if you're looking to build a new gaming PC one of the trickiest parts of the process can be choosing the right components to buy in the first place with an endless number of options different specifications performance figures and price points is hardly an easy process to navigate and that's why in today's video I'll be guiding you through my favorite CPU GPU and motherboard combos the three most integral parts of any gaming PC this video should give you a really solid starting point and ensure you've got the basics right when building your next system let's do this now I'm going to structure today's video in a very simple fashion those of you looking to spend the least money as possible we're going to look at those options first and work our way through to the more pricey mid-range and then even the high-end choices later too we'll be starting off with config's best for the budget gamer looking to play titles like fortnite Apex OverWatch valoran and more at 1080P and working through to support for the latest AAA titles and top tier performance I'll also be included before performance graphs of each of these configs as we go so you can see exactly the kind of performance you can expect from each I think that's all the prerequisites out the way Links of course everything will be down below but let's go on and do this shall we now if you're looking to build a budget gaming PC what are the best options out there well in terms of the CPU you're going to want something like this the Intel Core I5 13400f or it's cheaper little brother the core I3 13 100f Intel have pretty much got the CPU Market wrapped up around their little finger at least for the time being as we've discovered in our detailed testing of all the latest products they are by far and away the most compelling option on a budget which is why the I3 or the I5 for this price point makes the most sense it's best paired up with the budget GPU from Nvidia either the RTX 3050 or more preferably something from the AMD lineup the 6600 non-xd or 66 50 XT would be my preferable choices both of these cards are going to deliver strong performance at 1080p nvidia's 30 50 car is the best bet for those who want great dlss performance and all the Nvidia specific features like for example Cuda support GeForce experience slightly more mature Ray tracing but in terms of straight performance amd's RX 6600 is both Far and Away the best choice delivering exceptional value performance that far exceeds any of nvidia's options with great on-paper specifications and great performance in practice as far as motherboards go for an Intel CPU on a budget there are actually two options either a b660 or b760 design in a recent video where we talked about how to pick the best motherboard you can learn what the differences are between those chipsets basically b660 supports Intel's 12th gen lineup of CPUs so the equivalent 12 100f I3 and 12 400f I5 both also amazing shouts by the way out of the box while b760 supports 13th gen and that latter 12th gem b760 then a more expensive option better for compatibility and for novice Builders who don't want to mess about and waste time updating bioses and adding a world of complication to their systems a b760 option like the Asus b760 plus gaming Wi-Fi D4 are a great shout what also makes this ball good for our first budget combo is that it's available in a d4 variant standing for ddr4 that means you can use cheaper ddr4 Ram rather than the more expensive newer ddr5 and at the budget end performance is very nominally similar but what if you've got a little bit more money to spend you want something with a bit more oomph at 1080p well that is where the next combo comes in and Intel's Core i5 13400f stays on the table now Intel's 13th gen as I mentioned a really good so much so that their new more budget oriented I3 and I5 chips punch well above their weight and we don't need to upgrade this to get any more gaming performance instead the upgrades come in the GPU Department once again you've got two options an Nvidia option and an AMD option Intel's new graphics cards are fast approaching but they're not quite good enough yet to be included in this Roundup on the Nvidia side of the equation you've got the 3060 around a year ago this was my favorite card for slightly improved 1080p gaming over the super budget variants with solid dlss and even Ray tracing support for good measure but amd's gpus age like fine wine and with constant updates to both drivers and in-game optimizations they're 6650xt is an amazing shout delivering between 15 to 20 more performance than the 6600 non-xt featured in our previous combo this is going to deliver phenomenal 1080p performance that more often than not beats out its Nvidia rival it even knocks on the door of the more expensive 3060 TI in more scenarios than you might predict motherboard wise we'd certainly recommend the b760 option at this price MSI have got some great options in terms of their Tomahawk Wi-Fi which we can certainly recommend for our 1080p entry level but not super uber budget combo now once again you might be thinking James I've got a little a bit more money to spend I want something that's gonna give me more power oh dear that was a mistake wow I'm glad to announce I've got you covered once again Intel I I smell I don't want this to be the case but I've got to recommend to you guys what's best and the 30 and 600k is by far and away the greatest mid-range CPU right now in fact I think calling Intel's Core i5 13 600k a budget CPU it's a bit of an insult to the 13600k because it's really really good this is a chip that to be honest with you it's going to be good for any graphics card up to arguably a 470 TI by the time you're at that level a CPU upgrade might make sense but we've tested and not seen any bottleneck in until you start using something like a 4080 bottlenecking by the way is where one component significantly slows down another creating a bottleneck that reduces performance in a way that means you're wasting money through your inefficient part choices you don't want to do that the 13600k is best paired up with an Nvidia 3060 TI or an RTX 3017 the 3060 TI has always been a really really great GPU shell and I would argue provides a better value proposition than the more pricey 3070. it provides considerably more performance than the 60 non-ti variant while providing adequate vram great Ray tracing and fantastic dlss performance for good measure the 13600k and 3060 TI are a combo worth fighting for and in terms of the motherboard I would pair up with these once again a b760 board will be totally fine now enthusiasts in the comments or even novices for that matter you're all welcome here might be about to type James this is a terrible choice and let me explain well that's not the case the 3600k can't be overclocked on a b760 motherboard which might make this Choice seem a little bit weird but the 13600k the K indicates on an Intel chip it's unlocked and ready to be overclocked actually also gives faster out of the box clock speeds and to be honest spending another hundred dollars on a Z series motherboard isn't a particularly clever shout that's why I'd recommend sticking with a b7c 60 board like the MSI b760 Tomahawk Wi-Fi or the Asus tough gaming b760 plus as both fantastic shouts some more aesthetic options also include the Asus Rog strix b760 while gigabyte have some great options too of course if you've got a bit more cash to spend then you want to swap that 30 60 ETI out for a 3070 which would be my next GPU of choice you might also want to consider another hundred dollars or so on a budget z790 motherboard of which there are a few great options my favorite option at this price point though would be the Asus Prime z790a Wi-Fi one thing that this delivers that lots of Cheaper b760 boards don't is of course Wi-Fi support and ddr5 out of the box that makes this an awesome choice for a 3070 and core i5 13600k a bit of a top tip for you all if you're looking for some advice on a PC great for streaming or video editing take my recommended combo and upgrade the CPU by one so if I recommended an i5 have an i7 if I've ever recommended a ryzen 5 ryzen 7. you kind of get the gist but James you're not quite doing it for me I've got even more money to spend I've got money to burn almost or I want that 4K performance that these combos so far are not going to provide me in which case you might want to consider taking a look at some of the AMD or Intel high-end options on the AMD side of things for those looking at an AMD combo the ryzen 9 7 900x or ryzen 7 700x to give i7 and I9 equivalent performance but with AMD I best paired up with something like the MSI Meg x670e Ace of course there are also cheaper options we love this one from gigabyte which comes under their Elite lineup and will deliver top tier performance in conjunction with an RX 7900 XT not the one with the bonus X that's in the next combo coming up shortly amd's am5 platform does have some big Pros although Intel chips have fed better so far this will give longer term upgrades and with new AMD x3d screws dropping very soon I'd recommend keeping a close eye on the market and what AMD deliver with this upgraded vcash ryzen 7000 lineup on the Intel and Nvidia side of the equation there are also some great Alternatives too I'd personally recommend picking up the MSI RTX 4070 TI alongside an MSI z719 Motherboard we've had Hands-On with a few everything from their carbon lineup right through to Top End Godlike options obviously for a 4070 TI build go cheaper on the motherboard stick with something like that carbon lineup and pair it up with a card like the MSI Supreme X 4070 TI cpuise you're free to stick with either the I5 or the i7 depending on how heavy your performance is in CPU bound applications if you like high intensity strategy games pick that higher end i7 CPU option and if you wanted to video edit make sure you go for the i7 at minimum or even the I9 for balling performance levels with a bit more money to spend the 4080 is also an okay shout the 4080 isn't the best card in video of released wow in a long time really but it still delivers great performance metrics and is crucially much more readily available at least here in the UK right now than amd's other GPU options now that brings me on to the final part of today's lineup James I think I've got a bit too much cash and I want a top of the line 4K config if you're that person you're probably not actually watching this video and if you are do a bit more research than just my recommendations it's although they're going to be sound if you're spending this much money you've got to be sure I would recommend picking up the I9 13900k with an Asus Rog z790 Maximus hero motherboard or on the AMD side stick with this Ace board and drop into place either a ryzen 97950x or 7900x as far as gpus go there can only be really one option at the high end if you really really want that top available performance in nvidia's RTX 1490 and if you want to save a little bit of cash but still want some pretty crazy frame rates the 7900 XTX is the best of the rest as far as gpus go the key things really are that for most people an i5 oriented config or Verizon and five equivalent will be totally fine AMD CPU options lag behind their Intel counterparts at the moment and on the top end of the GPU Market while AMD cards are often better value at MSRP they are just that better value at MSRP a price point on amd's latest Radeon offerings often isn't really that feasible isn't particularly available and isn't really all that real I'll link all of the combos mentioned today down below you can find them nicely categorized into the 1080 1440p 4K buckets with different budgets Associated to each if you enjoyed this video make sure to get subscribed thanks for tuning in and as always we'll see you in the next one at least I hope we will please tune in again for more equal fun times and shenanigans
