berlin of america and i will be joined by my fellow educators to present uh the line of products we have for you today we have sewing embroidery quilting software with new machines even and new features so stay tuned we will be fielding questions at the end meanwhile if you have questions you can put them in the question box on the right if you have technical issues sometimes it happens with the internet if you have bad receptions you know it doesn't pass through you could close your browser and your session just re-enter but make sure you close your browser first and then if you're on an apple product remember that if you're going to watch a video segment you need to swipe to go back to the webinar proper so with that being said we have uh the star of the show today and my colleague haley grish will be here to show it to you we have special editions crystal edition the bernina 880 plus and 790 plus which are our top of the lines and they come with a value package and haley tell us about it thank you sylvain thank you all for joining us this afternoon i'm very excited to introduce the new special edition for this year for 2021 the crystal edition machines these machines are a collaboration with swarovski and so you can see the face plates of the b790 plus and the a80 plus are adorned with genuine swarovski crystals this was a really exciting collaboration between our two companies you know with such a history of quality luxury and both being long-standing family-owned companies so not only are these machines stunning um they come with an incredible gift with purchase package so if you've been considering upgrading to a 790 or an 880 really now is the time to do it with these machines first of all you're going to get a fantastic embroidery bundle you can actually 300 embroidery designs um some that are exclusive to the crystal edition machines so this kit i mean i've never seen anything quite like this come with a bernina special edition i believe the suggested values close to a thousand dollars yeah just accountability i think it means about 1200 it's there's a there's quite a lot in here um next you are going to get a 50 off the suggested retail price for our new bernina embroidery software v9 so you can get your choice of the designer plus package you could get the creator package or if you're already a software user you can upgrade for that 50 off which is a huge savings yes um and then not only are you going to get the stuff with these machines we have some really cool exclusive experiences that you can take part of as a crystal edition owner so we have four new exclusive virtual classes and as a crystal edition owner you'll be able to partake in two of those of your choice we have three projects that are designed around and inspired by the crystal edition machines there is a quilt there is a blouse and then there is a clutch handbag so whether you're a quilter or a garment maker into you know home deck and crafty projects there's something for you and then there's also a beginner software class which is going to be focusing on that v9 new v9 platform so if you take advantage of that 50 off coupon you can get a free class to learn how to use that software which is very cool so that full gift with purchase bundle is valued at about 4 600 and that's coming with your b80 or 790 plus as the crystal edition and these machines are being sold at the same price as a regular v80 plus or 790 plus wow that's that's pretty amazing yeah so the regular prices on those the b80 plus crystal edition is going to be 16 499 and the 790 plus is going to be 12 999 and again that's the same price as you would buy a regular one and it's coming with that 4 600 worth of extra goodies so like i said if you're thinking about it now is the time to do it and that's a suggested retail price you know actual pricing will be determined by the store the local burning store where you buy it right always go visit your local bernie in a store you know that's our that's our msrp you never know what they have for you there another really exciting thing i know i know and my eyes are going to the module you probably saw that right yes so another really exciting thing that's coming with the crystal edition machines is the new bernina smartdrive technology embroidery module so this module is the new replacement it's going to take the place of the current seven and eight series embroidery module but it has been upgraded and optimized to give you um not just quieter and smoother experience in embroidery but up to 55 faster stitch out time can you imagine some of your embroidery projects if you could cut that time in half well i did because emily and i were test driving the module with designs and we geeked out right it was so amazing especially on the larger hoops maxi and jumbo those the machine typically would slow down to maintain stitch quality now that's where you're getting the most speed advantage so yeah it was amazing yeah on that on that jumbo hoop on that maxi hoop that's where you're really going to see the big jump again and not just in time but the stitch quality because we all know we've worked on those big projects you're under you know you put yourself under the gun a little bit when you're when you're working at top speed sometimes you know that registration is gonna gonna come off a little bit especially if you have a project hanging on yeah yeah the weight and the size of that jumbo hoop but on the sdt module it's it loses nothing it's incredible amazing it's amazing it's a sports car yes so this module is going to come with the crystal edition machine standard it is also going to come with the b770 qe plus if you get embroidery with that machine right now those are the models that this is coming with it will be the standard to come with any seven or eight series machine with embroidery for our existing seven and eight series owners you're not left out of this either you can upgrade to the sdt module from your existing one and with just a quick easy free firmware update um you can take advantage of the features on this new module so that means that if you purchase the new module you will be able to use it with your existing machine correct because the the existing modules are not hardware upgradeable exactly you need you need two pieces of the puzzle you need the hardware upgrade and the firmware the firmware is free so yeah so that's nice that means that your your investment in your machine is protected if you buy the new module because you want that capacity you'll be able to use it yeah and another great thing about this is that um pricing wise uh it is staying the same price as the existing module so even though you're getting more we're keeping the same the price at the same point and that is going to be 2499 msrp um on that module so when i bought my first bernina the brochure said at the bottom we reserved the right to make changes in the name of technical progress and i thought that's a good idea i came from research right that means that they keep researching and then once in a while they will improve on an existing platform and that module is a perfect example yeah yeah it's a it's a huge improvement it's this is an amazing module get to your local bernina store and see it in action you really can't even understand how big of a difference you're getting until you actually see it for yourself no i have an 830 my personal machine i have an 880 from work right and a 790 from work so i'm spoiled uh i have the original module and you know 15 20 million stitches later it's it's been excellent i've i've done my art quilts on it it's really good but now i get speed on top of it so i'm i'm like looking forward to this yeah yeah and so all of the embroidery features here that upgraded module is going to pair very nicely with that new bernina embroidery software v9 yes yes and we'll talk to that we'll talk about those in a minute so again the the value package is up to 4 600 bucks or so especially if you take advantage of the full software yeah voucher in there yeah uh that i believe is the highest value amount that we've ever done with the special edition we tend to do one every year and uh you know i've seen 2 500 values 3 000. this is the highest value package i believe we've ever done plus look at it it's beautiful yeah and you still have the goodies like jumbo bobbins and you know big size and all that of course of course cool so um the uh the question we'll get is when when you when and how do i find out when i can get one that will be by going to the store right yep they'll be available this fall but talk to your local bernina store and they'll get you all the details of when you can get one for yourself they will be the first ones to know because they've already pre-ordered these these when we say limited edition these were pre-ordered based on how many each store wanted they are they are truly limited yes yeah so wonderful but thank you thank you sylvain yeah so uh i can't justify one today but yeah oh this is it's an amazing value so we are going to go to a short video and then when we come back we'll be talking about the software version nine that uh haley just referenced it's time to shine bernina introduces the new crystal edition a collaboration with swarovski [Music] let it silence [Music] bernina made to create hello welcome back and we are now going to talk bernina produce software version 9. that is the latest version we just launched and as you can tell version 9 means that we have a long trail where the features have grown the usability has grown there's the interface has been refined so it makes your embroidery both easier and better embroidery software lets you expand what your machine does right your machine becomes the plotter if you want so you want to create a recipe towel you want to edit the design customize it to your taste make it bigger whatever software allows you to do that on a nice big screen and when you're ready you send that to the machine and when we say send to the machine so far has been with the usb stick pretty much now today we're discussing how you can send it to the machine via a wi-fi device so my den is on the opposite side of the landing upstairs from my sewing room so by the time i'm done with the design and i like it i can just push a button now and it will be in the machine by the time i walk into the sewing room i love that so we are going to uh we're going to see a video our education director christy bertram could not be with us today but she recorded a demo tutorial of the new features in v9 including applique for instance that will be easier than ever so we will go to that video and you'll see how much you can do how simply and how that adds value to your embroidery experience so let's cut to the video and we'll be back hi i'm christy and i'm so excited to show you bernina embroidery software 9. there are two levels to bernie an embroidery software line there's the creator level which allows you to do some basic digitizing auto digitizing and editing and then there's the designer plus level that has all the full digitizing tools that allow you to create anything that you can imagine i'm going to give you a basic demonstration of what you can do with the embroidery software i'm going to start out by showing you some things for those of you who may not be familiar with what embroidery software does and then for those of you who already have a previous version of the software i'm going to take a deeper dive into just the features that are new in embroidery software 9. so i'll let you know when we're at that point that we're looking at just the things that are new so let's go ahead and take a look at the software i've got it open here to the home screen and on this home screen you're going to see the recent files on the right hand side you're going to see webinars you're going to see shopping of designs you're going to see projects and the blog so lots of resources right here on the home page speaking of resources there are tutorials over here on the left so there is a tutorial for just about anything you can imagine and how to use the software let's go back to the home page and let's go with a new design so what i'm going to do is start with a piece of artwork this could be a piece of artwork that you've taken a picture of maybe something that you have purchased in terms of a piece of clip art or you can use something that's built into the software which is what we're going to do so i'm going to go to the auto digitizing menu here and hit insert artwork and then in the artwork there are a lot of new pieces of artwork in bernina embroidery software 9. this is one of my favorites the cooking and baking designs so we'll select these oven mitts and click open so you can see it's just a piece of artwork at this point but we want to change it to an embroidery design so what we're going to do is use the auto digitizing tools there are several different types of auto digitizing tools but i'm just going to show you the most basic one so we're starting with auto digitize and what you can see is it automatically pulls up the artwork and it determines the colors that it sees in the artwork and then you can reduce these colors this one's really simple so there's just two colors it's very basic but if you've got lots of colors you can reduce it down so there's not so many color changes now we'll click ok and on the next screen we have the option to change the types of fills the types of outlines but i have found that the software is really good at figuring this out on its own so i usually leave it at the default so we're just going to leave it at the default options and click ok and then what you're going to see is the design is already turned into a design so if we wanted to we could stitch this out just like this but let's play around with it a little bit more the next thing i want to do is i'm going to draw a little box around this oven mitt and touch delete on the keyboard so that we only have one oven mitt now you can see that that artwork is still there underneath and we don't want that to distract us so we can actually just turn off the artwork and hide it while we're working with our design let's do some other things to this design so i'm also going to select this one i'm going to rotate it which is so simple to do so that it's standing upright and then i want to create like a little border around this and turn this into like a medallion and there's a lot of different ways i could do that i could digitize a circle and apply a motif outline to it but what i'm going to do to make it extra fun is i'm going to use one of these little stars that's on this design and i'm going to zoom in here and select that star and i'm going to copy it and paste it so now what we'll do is drag that little pasted star off to the right and we're going to zoom out a little bit and now what we're going to do is to create a medallion out of those out of that little star it's so easy to do with the mirror merge tool so we'll go to mirror merge we're going to choose a wreath and now we need to tell the software how many items we want in our wreath right now there's just two little stars in our wreath but we can go up here and type in a new number we're going to put 30 stars in our wreath so we'll touch enter and you can see look at all those stars so let's make that the size that we want it to be that looks great and then let's center this mint right in here now i put brought this a little bit down because i want to take this even a step further i could stitch it just like this but i want to add some lettering to it so let's go over here to the lettering menu and we're going to choose lettering and let's type in star baker and you can see there's our lettering that looks great now we can play with this some more what i'm going to do is select that lettering double-click it and then let's change the font so here in the font i'm going to choose one of the new fonts in bernina embroidery software 9. there are over 100 built in so the new font i want to choose is shella it's like a handwriting font and then let's click apply and okay and look how cute that looks now we can take this even a step further we're going to go back to that menu to that pop-up dialog about the lettering and change the baseline so that it's a circle and you can see how cute it looks when we change that baseline to a circle really curves nicely over our design so we could stitch this out just like this but i'm going to show you one more thing let's add another letter and let's put that right on top let's make it a little bigger and put that right on top of our bit now you might be looking at that going oh that's not going to work because there's too many layers of stitching there that's no problem the software actually has a tool that will remove the stitches out from underneath that letter b so all you have to do is select the letter b and then you're going to go to your edit tool and choose remove overlaps and with remove overlaps now if i take my b and or my mitt and move it to the side you can see that the letter b is cut out underneath it so there's not that two layers of stitching so let's undo that and put it back so now we're ready to stitch out our design i think it looks really cute that is a basic thing that you can do with the software but now i want to take you in for those of you who already have a previous version of bernina embroidery software and show you just the things that are new in bernina embroidery software 9. so we're going to delete this so the next thing i want to show you is also a way to help control your jump stitches and to improve the machine movement and that is called the branching tool so i'm going to start by creating a little leaf and then i'm going to make a bunch of these leaves let's select that leaf and we'll make an array and we'll do three rows and two columns of leaves here so let's create that that looks pretty good but do notice we've got jump stitches crossing over again like we had with the apply closest join here and then what we're going to do is mirror image this and now we've still got our jump stitches because of the way we use the tool to create the designs but let's eliminate that and first thing i want to do is i want to add a branch down the middle of these leaves okay so now what i want to do i want to create something where this all stitches in a row without any jump stitches and it's really simple to do so i'm going to select everything i'm going to go to my edit tool and i'm going to go to branching now with branching i just tell the software where i want it to start touch enter and you can see all those jump stitches are gone and what we can do is let me just show you on the stitch player let's speed that up a little bit what it actually does is it creates stitches that go underneath our fills so that we don't have any jump stitches and it's really amazing what the software can do again this is something that professional digitizers take a long time to learn how to do but with the branching tool it's all done automatically for you and it's a really fantastic tool if you're familiar with the black work run tool from previous versions of the software this is like that only it's working with solid objects as opposed to outlines so really fantastic and exciting tool all right now let's look at some of the other features of bernina embroidery software 9. one of my favorite new features is something that allows me to combine designs together it's really simple it's called the weld tool so again we're going to digitize an object and i'm going to do just a basic heart all right let's make that a little cuter here that looks good okay there's our heart let's turn on the stitches so you can see it and now i'm going to change colors here and digitize an arrow that's going over the top of that heart okay so i've got these two objects they're stitching on top of each other i could apply my remove overlaps if i wanted to take the overlaps underneath the arrow out but i actually want to do something different i want to merge these into a single object so what i'm going to do is use a new tool called weld and so i need to select both the objects and then this new tool called weld shows up and automatically combines those designs together really simple and a lot of fun so this is a great way to play around with like making a flower out of a bunch of circles and you can then weld them all together so once i'm done with this i'm just going to touch delete and let's look at one more feature which is the keyboard alphabet i love the keyboard alphabet what this does is if you have a design that you've purchased say an embroidery collection of letters that are individual designs which is how a lot of alphabets are sold as as individual designs if you have used the software before you know that in order to combine those together into a word you actually have to manually bring in each individual letter and spell out what you're trying to spell out and it takes a little bit of time to do that so now what you can do is you can actually take those alphabets and turn them into a font that you can type right in on your keyboard and you can use like any other font built into your software so let me show you how that's done what i'm going to do is i'm going to go to my library and take a look at one of the collections of designs that i have purchased and let's use this one okay it's a really pretty font so you can see these are all individual designs what i want to do is change them into a font so i'm going to use the keyboard design collection icon here and then i'm going to do new and i'm going to call this my chalkboard font because i think it looks a little bit like chalkboard art you could also name it according to the collection that you purchased and then this is about three and a half inches tall so i'm going to click ok and now all i have to do is select the letters and then you apply them to the letters in your alphabet okay so now those letters have been assigned to the alphabet and let's go ahead and take a look at how that works now let's go to our blank design and let's go to our lettering and choose the lettering and let's type in christy okay and now let's choose the new font so let's go down and pick the font that we've already created and here are the different fonts that i've been playing around with and here is the one i just made click apply and what you can see is it now spells out my name in that font that i've created and one of the things i love about this is not only does it turn it into a font you can type it with the keyboard but you can now use all the tools that you normally use with lettering so for example if i want to use the kerning tool here i can bring that font that letter a little bit closer just by using that simple kerning tool and again i can use any of the features like a curved baseline or anything you would normally use with the lettering so that's really fantastic so there's one other thing i want to tell you about bernina embroidery software 9 and that is the wi-fi device the wi-fi device actually allows you to send designs wirelessly from your embroidery software directly to your machine and what you do is you just set that up with your wi-fi in your house so anywhere in your house you can send your designs from your laptop to your machine just wirelessly it makes things really simple and the wi-fi device is included with the designer plus and it is an option with the creator level so thanks for taking a listen to all the new exciting features of bernina embroidery software nine and be sure to ask your dealer about how you can upgrade or how you can purchase as a new customer thanks so much we're now moving to the new kid on the block and i don't mean julie bridgeman my colleague here although you can you're one of the most recent uh to join the the department right that's true we have a new 70 770 bernina 770 qe quilter's edition plus so you know plus means we've added to what was there now the 770qe has been our star machine it's our best seller nationwide because it's the sweet spot of rich features size and all that right jumbo bob and all that good stuff at a still a reasonable price right so that when you have this feature price ratio that hits the sweet spot that machine is popular well we bernina as i mentioned earlier reserve the right to make changes right so we've been taking feedback for the last few years on what could make that machine even better we don't just sit on a success we want to improve further so to tell us more about that julie will give us a tour of what the new 770qe plus will do right thank you sylvain you're welcome i would like to introduce the bernina 770 quilters edition plus you are going to be amazed at this machine it has all the bernina qualities and innovation that makes a machine a bernina we have a dc motor we have total stitch control which you can adjust your stitch length your stitch width and your needle position also we have the bernina dual feed that you can easily engage and disengage from the back of the machine we have the sliding table which creates a large sewing space and you can take it off to expose your free arm down here we also have your bernina hook system which creates precise beautiful stitching and then of course there's your jumbo bobbin the jumbo bobbin holds 70 percent more bobbin thread and when you have more bobbin thread that equals more uninterrupted sewing time so beautiful but let me go ahead and tell you a little bit about the sewing side of this machine this machine has 500 sewing stitches from your practical stitches to your decorative stitches your alphabet fonts your buttonhole stitches and your quilting stitches it also has presser foot selection presser foot selection is an incredible feature where you can easily tell the machine what foot you are using and i will take this foot off and put on my 97 d foot this is a patchwork foot i'll engage my dual feed and i will tell the machine that i am using the 97d foot and when i do that the machine knows what foot is on the machine and it will adjust the stitches for the machine not to mention look at this beautiful seven inch color touch screen so i've got my straight stitch on i have this 97 d look what happens when i go to the zigzag stitch see what it does it has this teeny tiny zigzag stitch because it knows it's i've got my 97d and if it does the regular zigzag stitch there i'm going to break a needle so this is kind of a security function and it prevents broken needles that's only one of the reasons for presser foot selection there are other reasons but i'll just go over that for today and there also is if you go in your information menu i am actually going to put on 20d i'm going to show you a couple cool features with decorative stitches and i like the fact of the big screen makes it possible to actually see your presser foot on screen so you know where the needle goes relative to the foot so when you put the fabric under the foot there's no guessing you already know what's going to happen correct yes this um okay so i put the 20 c foot see what happened to that zigzag stitch it knows okay now i've got the 20c foot on i can do the zigzag stitch now it's not that little teeny tiny line that you had with the patchwork foot so right yeah it recognizes what's on there and what it can do and you don't have broken needles so the security function with that's incredible also you can go into your information menu and this you can do triple stitch there's a triple stitch function now and this you can do with many of the decorative stitches also you can do pattern repeat so i am going to go into my decorative stitches and i'm going to select stitch 104 this tulip and i'll go back into my information menu i could do a triple stitch i am going to select two you can repeat this up to 99 times and i'm gonna do two and we'll see what happens i have two flowers so it's two pattern repeats awesome and that triple function it transforms a stitch from lying on the fabric to literally popping off the fabric just like a regular triple straight stitch you know jumps at you it's more visible it becomes a detail you can do this now like i know i like greek keys you know the grid the greco designs tripled up are beautiful yeah yeah it adds a whole other element to your sewing project i'm going to introduce to you a couple features on the vsr this machine comes with the bernina stitch regulator so let me attach this to the machine and you are going to be amazed at what shows up what i like is that once the bsr is plugged in the machine knows and it switches automatically to bsr screen and drop my feet yeah it will remind you yes all right so you've got remember the presser foot selection shows you what foot you have on we've got our bsr here and what do you notice on the right oh you know number three there what is that i'm used to number one and number two what is number three number three we have mode three now mode three are your basting stitches so you can baste on this machine now using the bsr so if i do a table runner i can just run it through and baste it before i do my binding or anything like that right correct it's so fast so easy and there's two basting stitches the first one does two stitches per inch and the second one does four stitches per inch now that's something that was only on the q series before correct this is the first domestic machine to have the basting stitch this is also the first domestic machine to have kickstart i love that so what you would do is you could select kickstart and you would use your foot control to start and stop the machine so it becomes just an on and off thing not a speed control thing right right the regulator does that yes cool yeah and you never have to take your hands off your project when you're free motions yeah and when you're done you just exit and meanwhile the screen is kind of you know disabled so that you don't accidentally touch something else right sometimes your head gets closed while you're you're navigating a quilt right correct cool yeah and this is the first domestic machine to have that so this is all added to what was already an excellent platform the 770 qe and now bigger screen and all these bsr functions and decorative and all that that's all added on right that's correct yeah awesome so that's just some of the sewing this on the sewing side let's get over to the embroidery side here so the embroidery is optional and i will let me take this off and let me go over to the embroidery side first okay so the embroidery is optional and with the embroidery you are going to get the smartdrive technology module awesome this module like haley said it's 55 faster and it's almost 20 quieter you could definitely notice the difference in the sound and the speed especially on the large hoops yeah yeah so let me just show you really quick if you go in there's uh 275 embroidery designs and really quick let me just show you some of the editing features if we go into folder eight let's pick this one keep calm and sew something so if you go into the information menu you can select group ungroup so if we go to group ungroup this will take your design your built-in design and it will ungroup it into many layers so if i wanted to move the scissors to the top of the design instead no i can't hand do that too we have now it's a rearrange function where you can take yeah say layer three and move it all the way down to stitch out first so you could take your built-in designs and you can edit them and make them your own designs that used to require computer software yeah right it can be done in the machine though yeah so awesome and then this also has eight embroidery alphabets and there is also word art where you can um take a your name or any word in the um the letters and you can use word art to space your letters or to curve your letters so um that's just a quick review of some of the embroidery options but what do you do if you have a 770 q e and you can once you can get the upgrade there's an upgrade kit and this here is the plus upgrade it comes with the um upgrade card you get everything that i had just talked about except of course you don't get the seven inch screen yeah it would keep its own screen which is like four point three inches instead of yeah yeah but this i think it just makes such a big deal so if you have a 770 and you've invested in embroidery you'll be able to add all these features you know because embroidery is also pinpoint placement that's been added right right right and i didn't even discuss pinpoint but pinpoint placement you know when you hoop and the last little step sometimes you get a one or two degree scoot and you go like that's not gonna match my pocket or my my corner with pinpoint placement you can now position and orient everything at once but there's a new piece of goodie in there there is i will show really quick there's a new icon in here it's called maintain size or scaling lock and you can lock it so you don't inadvertently change your design size but why would you want to unlock it you say you're doing a quilt block and your quilt block isn't exactly square and you're putting on a quilt design whatever um this would be one one of the many reasons so if you have a you know if you have an area and you wanted to you your areas like this and even the design was a little smaller you could place it and by moving the other corner you could actually rescale it at the same time yeah but if it's important to keep the size now you have that option yes you do and the upgrade kit also has your adjustable ruler foot 7d2s it's the new one with the slit on the side and it has couching inserts so you can do embroidery uh in the in the hoop with um decorative couch or decorative yarns and cord and these two are valued at or msrp 180 the upgrade kit is 5.99 okay so msrp yeah yeah yeah but it includes the feet so it includes the feet yes and um everything else in here except the touch screen the seven inch screen so we have a proven platform we've added a lot of functions the embroidery is still optional but the embroidery will be up you know better than before yes it's the smartdrive technology this msrp is 74.99 with embroidery msrp 99.99 okay and when will the new 770qe be available is is this file yes okay cool and the best way to find out is to contact your local berlin store because they will be the first ones to know when it arrives and they if you know they know you're interested in looking at it then you'll get to find out sooner when it arrives locally thank you julie you're welcome thank you well we're going to go to a short video and then we'll be back with some overlocking goodies so stay tuned [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] bernina made to create [Music] [Music] bernina made to create welcome back last year bernina introduced the l8 series of overlockers and pretty much redefined the category and this year we have even more in that series and to talk about it we have jamie david our overlocker expert who will be showing our new baby so jamie take it away all right thanks sylvain yes this is the third in the l8 overlocker series and as sylvain mentioned these machines are kind of a big development for bernina that we launched last year with the l890 and the l850 overlockers and this is the l860 and you can see right away that it has that nice color touch screen but the biggest thing about these overlockers is that they are air threading over lockers one thing you did mention designed engineered and manufactured by bernina so this is kind of a milestone moment a first for us to actually build these products in our factories this machine here is a two three four thread overlock machine so it's just your overlock works very similar to the l890 except that it doesn't have that cover stitch chain stitch and combo stitch functionality it does do it has 18 pre-programmed stitches in the machine already that you can just select and it's very nice to thread so i'm excited to show you that part i'm going to show you the threading with the air threading now you just said something very interesting pre-programmed stitches normally i have to fiddle with knobs and pass threads around you know my older overlockers and i can just select the stitch yeah it's really easy to select the stitches on this machine and if you actually there are two modes that you can operate this machine in there's a guided mode and an expert mode and in the guided mode it will actually walk you through step by step that whole process of threading and setting up the stitch so depending on what stitch you've selected and what stitch you last sewn this machine will walk you through that steps but let's go ahead and i'm just going to select a basic three thread stitch here from this machine we'll do just a three thread overlock stitch i've got the right needle in so well that's the wrong one there we go so to begin threading you are going to activate the air threading nozzles by turning this knob and we have a feature called one step air threading and that is because we operate our air threader by pressing on the foot control so normally i'm standing so normally this would be on the ground and i would be using it with my foot thus the one step air threading um but i am going to use my hand on the foot but that means your hands will be free to manipulate the thread at that point yes and if you watch i will just hover that thread over the nozzle as i press this and it will pull it right so you don't have to insert it a little bit no it has an actual kind of suction that pulls it in and through the machine so just like that my loopers are threaded and we have the color-coded threading path however you can thread this machine in any order that you like so typically with overlockers we've been used to threading in a specified thread path but this one you can thread whatever order you want and you may have noticed that i turned out my or my presser foot here we have this swing out presser foot so that makes it easy for you to get the threads in and underneath the presser foot when you're threading a big plus on the 860 and the 850 is that it also has a built-in needle threader which i love this toggles between the left and right needles right here and it works really similar to the needle threader that you're used to using on your sewing it's very compatible with my bifocals it's really hard to do from this angle yeah when you're sewing at 45 degrees it's always a little funny well you know what i i toggled it over to the yellow needle the left needle and i'm on the right needle there you go stage fright all right so i am threaded and that's all there is to it and if you had it threaded for let's say a two needle something completely different and you've been gone on vacation you come back it knows how you left it right yes this has that temporary altered memory stitch memory that you're used to having on your bernina sewing machine so the machine's going to remember where you left off and the settings you can save any stitch into a personal memory as well so just like on our bernina sewing machines we have personal memory through this touch screen where you can come in here and you can actually save your stitches there's 99 stitches that you can save here all right so the other like great features about this is the comfort features so bernina we like our comfort features and this is very much a bernina machine so there's some things about it the free hand system which will raise and lower our presser foot and we also have a free arm well and a thread cutter so you just notice i use a thread cutter this is actually the same thread cutter on some of our sewing machines that's on this overlocker we've got the slide-on extension table that will release and you can see that you have access to a free arm so this is a really nice feature to have for overlocking because you can actually sew your tubular um things or garments right yep and if you don't want the slide on table this one does come with the free arm cover so you can fill in that gap space with that little bit of a free arm cover one of my favorite features is the knife on off and maybe if i take this seam guide off you can see my cutting knife right here i have a switch for this over here on the left hand side of the machine now and i can just lower that and i can do that while i'm sewing i don't have to open anything up and turn the cutting knife upside down push and turn and get it right right that's awesome yeah and this is great i like this because it makes really tidy a really tidy way to end your seams um it's got nine millimeter cutting width so we've got a really wide cutting width on this machine that's about the widest available right oh yeah it's you can actually weave two rows of ribbons in between flat lock stitches with this cutting width of nine millimeters if you like and it's a nice decorative stitch as well as a sturdy construction scene i see a little knob here that says mtc oh yes micro thread control this isn't necessarily a new feature we've had this on our overlockers for a while but micro thread control is a fine-tuned adjustment of where the stitch finger lays in the stitch formation holds the loops at the edge of the fabric so when you adjust that knob sylvain it moves left to right and you can just fine tune adjust where those loops are at so you don't have loops hanging off the edge of the fabric and this is the seam guide and it attaches right here to the looper cover and you can just adjust that as you wish we also have the cutoffs bin that attach attaches to the front and collects all of the cut off bits and you know it's the little things but when we teach classes and we pick up the machine and the the cup stays attached it doesn't jiggle it it goes with and lands with the machine everything in that machine is so precisely crafted it's just amazing yeah and i i didn't talk much about the touch screen um on it but it's like if you um look here too in your modes it's going to look very similar to your bernina sewing machine so you've got built-in tutorials and help right here from the beginning we have a creative consultant so if you are doing a specific technique for a fabric you can come in here and select the fabric and then the technique and the machine will set up the stitches so it will automatically set up stitch length and differential feed it will adjust your tensions for all your threads for the stitches that you are going to that's a rare feature right that it will set up differential feed and stitch line because those are normally knobs on the outside and there are none here right it's able to do that internally right i don't know of any other machine that really quite does it this way um and from here too you can see we've got a needle up needle down on this machine we have a feature in here called stitch optimizer so this is another thing that's a great help that if you sew your stitch you can see actually illustrations built in here on the screen so if it's not quite perfect you can find match it just like a matching game find the picture that looks like your stitch that's not quite perfect and then when you touch that it's going to give you troubleshooting things you can do so you can just work through that troubleshooting to correct that stitch and then you will um so those hundred and so years of usability you know sewing comfort we tend to call it that bernina has invested in the home sewing machines this is all showing up through this and actually when we sit new people at this machine it behaves like a sewing machine to them like it doesn't have that alien nature that a lot of overlockers have right yeah it's very friendly it's very approachable looking very approachable to use and it's quiet and it makes a perfect stitch so yeah we we educators are spoiled we're not jaded but we are spoiled and when we introduced this last year the room was full of us the whole team and there was this collective whoa we were so impressed and it you know it happens but not that often this was definitely in a league of its own we were super impressed by these machines yeah i think it's it's really kind of the perfect machine if you're wanting to learn overlockers if you're not quite ready for that cover stitch this is a really nice place to start and now we were discussing yesterday and i think jamie is less patient than i am and that's difficult because i'm not very patient but uh i'm i don't i'm not shame on me right i'm not a everyday overlocker user there are times my machine may be sitting for a month because i'm doing embroidery projects for work and all that and when i pick it up i'm like uh where was i well where was it i need to change it over so the guided mode walks me through this i need this right but you said you like the expert mode because it's all at a glance right yeah so it my analogy for this is the guided mode and the expert mode are like a map and they're going to get you to the same place it's just how fast are you going to get there so in guided mode it's it's kind of like if you pulled up your app and you took the walking directions it's walking you through step by step your trail to get to the end and it's like in expert mode it's kind of like you can get right to the end so it's like you're driving to your destination but all of that stitch wizard is in there so you can get to those steps and see those animations that are in here if you've got so if you're an experienced uh overlocker user the expert mode saves you time because it's all there in front of you in one pod sure but yeah yeah it's just learning to navigate which direction you prefer so and what's the msrp or the suggested retail on this machine is 59999 and and you can check with your local dealer on what their specials and things and promos will be okay and the availability like all the new products this will be coming to your dealers this fall yeah cool well thank you jamie you are welcome can i take this one home [Laughter] okay we're going to cut to a short video and then we will be back [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] bernina made to create we are back and now it's time for dessert i have my colleague here megan friezy who will talk about the long arm now picture this you've seen long arm machines on frames and you may think it's too big for my house i don't have room for like the huge rig we now have a solution to that right we have a q16 plus which is you know we'll see the size as indicated right with a studio frame and that may be the solution if you thought you could not afford the space for a long arm you probably do now so megan take it away all right well last but certainly not least because i think i get to introduce the biggest new product that we have today i am so excited to introduce you guys to the new q16 plus and the new studio frame so the q16 plus is going to be joining our q series family if you're not familiar with that the q series are a family of long arm machines that were designed engineered and manufactured by bernina right now we have the q24 the q20 and the q16 like sylvain said the name implies the size of it um so q24 from the needle to the back of the machine is 24 inches q20 is 20 inches and the q16 is actually 16 and a half inches but 16 is just easier than 16.5 so now the q16 plus is joining that family and it's going to make a great addition to it let's go over some of its key features so like i said the q16 is 16 inches from the needle to the back of the machine giving us a really large sewing space and it's going to be great still for that kind of compact area if you don't have a ton of room in your home or your sewing studio but it's a great size to still get a ton of projects underneath like all of our other q series we have those features that we love and one of mine in particular is the threading path everything that i need to do to start sewing immediately is right in front of me and it's very close and i can get it about within a foot of reaching so first is the threading path we start here at the thread stand on the top of the machine and all of my threading is done on the front of the machine you can see it comes through here into our take-up lever and things like that but it's all done in the front and i don't have to try and fight to go to the back of the machine at all just like with the threading for the needle our bobbin winding is actually on board on the machine we use m-class bobbins we have a nice large bobbin that holds a lot of thread so you're not having to rewind bobbins all the time but obviously we all love to do our large quilts and we do have to rewind bobbins but that's no problem with the q16 plus or any of our q series machines because we have the onboard bobbin winding that starts at the thread stand um and comes up to our bottom and you can wind while you keep quilting yeah exactly it's a separate motor so even while you're quilting you can wind that next bobbin to continue on with your project so moving down the machine we have the bernina stitch regulators i know julie mentioned that with the 770 qe plus on the q series we actually have two built-in bernina stitch regulators that are going to be perfect to regulate all of our stitches and make sure that they look perfect on every single project and it allows the machine to quilt twice as fast as exactly exactly this machine actually stitches at 2 200 stitches per minute i know it's fast like you i i don't even know that you'd want to stitch that fast but you have the capability of doing so this machine also uses domestic machine needles which is a huge plus so anything that i you know would maybe piece with on my domestic sewing machine i can use to quilt my personal favorite is jeans needles but again you can use whatever you just make sure that the flat part of the needle is to the back of the machine so you don't have to fiddle with the few degrees like on commercial machines right exactly exactly we also have that built-in needle threader so i don't have to um struggle to try and find the eye of my needle and i just noticed that it lowered the foot to put it out of the way just like on a domestic i know people love that feature and so do i the machine the qc the q16 plus has that hopping presser foot so it raises and lowers as you are stitching and it also um holds the tension of the thread as well so when the foot lowers that tension disc closes and make sure that your tension oh you said tension i heard i heard an expression before numerical tension yeah we'll get there in just a second oh yeah but talking more about the presser feet because like like our domestic machine it is hopping we can use our favorite free motion presser feet on the q16 plus as well so this machine comes standard with the darning foot number nine but you can even use your drop shape embroidery foot number 26 or that new 72 s foot with the slit on the side for really work your 73 foot adjustable stiff length as well yeah yeah and you can couch with 43 as well right exactly so wow that's cool on this machine as well but moving up to that machine interface and you mentioned that that numerical tension this machine interface should look pretty similar to what you see on your home sewing machine is so great like that of keeping the interfaces all of the same and very common among our machines so one feature that is very similar and very familiar to us is the adjustable tension i can adjust this right on screen as soon as i do a test stitch i can make adjustments um to make sure that it's perfect every single time and it's numerical right on the screen so no guessing no guessing you can reproduce the settings no guessing exactly i can also raise and lower my presser foot on the screen just by a simple touch and we'll get to the handles in just a second because there might be a sneaky little feature there too but let's talk about those bsr modes that bernina stitch regulator mode we have the sr mode number one two and three on this machine as well as a manual mode so four different ways that we can stitch and we can quilt bsr mode one that's going to be when our needle is in constant motion it's going to be going up and down even if i'm not moving the machine to a new part of the so to prevent eyelashing in corners it's awesome you take that extra stitch right it's perfect for points you're going to get perfect needle penetration and the design is going to turn out beautifully psr mode 2 that is going to be when the machine moves the needle will move and the needle will go up and down that's my favorite exactly so if you're it's my favorite too so if you're not moving the machine the bernina stitch regular has the regulators have nothing to read it has no fabric moving so it's only going to move uh and stitch if you are moving so if you're doing like circular movements like loops and pebbles it's a great one for that exactly and i always say two i'm not as confident with my free motion quilting so i like bsr mode too because i can have a second to think about where i'm going next yeah and it's going to help me read that bsr mode 3 like julie mentioned is the basting mode on the q series and on the q16 plus we have three different modes for vsr3 we can do one stitch per inch two stitches or four inches per inch i love this when i'm basting down the sides of my quilt so i don't get any tucks or anything as i'm using qmatic which i'll talk about too oh and finally we have manual mode and this is where you're controlling the speed at which the machine is stitching um but the regulation is not there so people who have a lot of experience love that exactly exactly it's a comfort thing to a lot of people because the sound is consistent too yeah so that's it with the interfacing but you know with the q16 plus we we have to have some place to put that right you know you purchase a machine where am i going to put that now well that's why the new studio frame is perfect for that you have this new space saver machine with 16 inches we now have our 10 foot studio frame that's perfect for any size of sewing studio or home living situation when you put the machine when you purchase machine you put some place to put it so when you purchase the frame you also get those front handles so you can do programmable front handles that have adjustable positions and we can adjust the handles and program them to do different things like raise the presser foot raise the needle secure our stitches as well as start and stop ourselves and what if you're left or right-handed oh that's perfectly fine because we can program each one to do different features as well so you could swap the buttons the way they are if you wanted to so if i'm doing ruler work or something with my q16 plus on the frame i can raise this handle out of my way and then i can make sure that this is programmed to do start and stop um and raise my presser foot now we mentioned space saving what if uh i want this in on a table absolutely the q16 plus can go on a table as well um we have a bunch of different tables from koala and horn with the q16 plus the msrp starts at 104.99 with our adjustable height table so you can have some manual adjustments and what's the difference the main difference is between the regular q16 and the plus well right with the plus we have to have some added features right so with the plus and when you put it on a frame you are able to add bernina qmatic to it which is our automation and you're also able to do pantographing with it so it has the hardware in the back that you can install the handles and the uh pantygrass screen and be able to stitch um with the frame okay with the qmatic be on the bernina frame you know the main the big one or can you do it on this frame you could do it on this frame as well yeah you can put qmatic on the new studio frame as well awesome yeah it has it has all the holders and things for that yeah and one question we've gotten already in the field is can you upgrade a q16 you know from last year to a q16 plus so with that it's not an upgrade you actually do have to purchase the physical machine because it's a hardware update it's not a firmware added electronics inside right to put all that interchange with the other so yes the q16 plus is it has the hardware in the back to be able to work with humatic and pantographing yes okay cool but let's talk about a couple of other amazing accessories that you could add on to your q16 plus on your studio frame as well so the first one would be the ruler work kit we can have the ruler work kit um you can also have ruler work with your sit-down mod or your excuse your table models as well you can do that but the the ruler work kit for the frame comes with a snap-on table and that gives you a nice large space so that you can quilt now we we've been tripping on sit down versus table because originally we only had sit-down models as a sit-down cabinet but we now have even height very height variable tables where if you want to do your free motion work standing on a table that you can collapse you can actually do quilting is no longer just a sit-down thing you can use it at a stand-up table and we do have that i would be one to stand exactly we have the horn and koala height adjustable tables it's the click of a button the frame does go from 36 to 44 inches as well so you do have some height adjustments there some add-on things for the frame as well our casters so you can put on wheels i know i in some way we have them and sometimes i need just different inspiration i need to move the frame throughout my place so you have that option as well um something else to add on maybe you don't love these programmable handles not a problem we also have the palm precision handles this is perfect if you're doing stippling or things like that and arthritis i've seen them it's brilliant yeah if you can get if you get your hands sore after just a bit of quilting these are perfect for you because it allows you just to rest your hands on and one thing i know from uh early the first time i touched a q24 when it was first introduced you touch it with your pinky and the thing glides exactly so those palm rests you're not going to start you're not going to struggle not going to struggle as they say it's like butter exactly yep exactly and that's what i love about the q16 plus too one thing i forgot to mention when you do have it on the frame at the 10 foot frame you can't you have 11 inches of space here to stitch so plenty of room to get all of your quilts done it holds up to 104 inch width of the quilt so if you're debating between a q16 and a q16 plus if you think you're going to do table today q16 does that well but if you think you might want to go on a frame later then the plus keeps that option open the plus keeps option option open the q16 does as well but you will not be able to add schematic exactly so it would it would just be free motion which is a great option as well but the q16 plus opens up the the room to the pedographic exactly so you could start in a table and move up to the frame when you're ready for it and the beauty of the petrograph kit is that it's the same screen that you see on front that gets added to the back of the machine so when you swing to the back it there's no difference exactly exactly um one thing i want to mention too about quilting you know bernina our education department is great about giving you guys all the knowledge that you need and we have our big book series so it started with the big book i know it started with the big book of feet we had the big book of embroidery surging and machine quilting and now we just added the big book of long arm quilting so this is great for inspiration it's great for techniques and things like that but it's going to give you so much information that you can take to your q 16 plus when you purchase and the nice thing is that this is the q the entire q series they're all built on the same chassis just different length the bridge in between is where the difference is so what you get is the same motor the same performance the same durability it's basically just a size difference nothing else [Music] i'm amanda murphy and i'm a quilt and pattern designer the bernina q16 is quilting magic one of the hallmarks of a great quilting experience is when you lose yourself in your work [Music] bernina made to create thank you for joining and we will see you next time
