bears the berenstain bear enjoy whatever the new day brings you and you'll always find something fun to do I don't like autumn it's cold and wet and there's nothing to do outside maybe so but a daily dose of fresh air and exercise is good for you hey it's not cold out it's really kinda warm it feels like summer hey let's play baseball and soccer or when was the last time we all went down to the swimming hole for a family swim swimming but it's the end of October papa yes it's almost winter not according to good old mr. son who's given us the gift of an unusually warm day well come on then get your swimsuits on we're going swimming okay okay we give up this is a great idea papa yes it would have been ashamed not to be out enjoying all that today has to offer ah I hope the hot weather never ends good really is a treat for it to be so warm this time of year but as far as it never ending notice the leaves on this crabapple tree haven't turned over yet that can only mean one thing - an old weather ologist like me the weather tomorrow is going to be exactly the same as it is today you brotherbrother wake up I'm sleeping come on you don't want to waste time sleeping when you could be swimming swimming don't bother getting dressed all you need is your bathing suit charge guess what it's cold outside you betcha what happened Papa I thought you said the weather today was going to be just like yesterday well even an old weather ologist like me isn't always right I wish today was sunny and hot like yesterday me too why did the weather have to change now there's nothing to do well the one thing you don't want to do is waste today sitting around inside wishing that it was yesterday go upstairs and get dressed so that you can go outside and enjoy all that today has to offer all right okay do you think we've had enough fresh air and exercise brother no I think we have to stay out here a little bit longer there's nothing to do you're right it's too cold to play baseball or soccer or go swimming you almost got it I won't miss this one got it good one think you can do it again okay here we come that was the biggest pile of leaves we've ever had high jump the highest and later when the wind got really strong we flew our kites higher than ever right out to the end of the string really goodness you were right mama I was uh-huh we could have wasted the whole day wishing it was warm and sunny like yesterday but we didn't instead we went out and enjoyed what today had to offer just like you said even though it wasn't warm like yesterday it was fun you know this fall weather is perfect for a family hayride how about tomorrow what do you think papa well my weather ologists i has noticed that the sparrows are staying close to the trees today that can only mean one thing the weather tomorrow is going to be exactly the same as it is today brotherbrother wake up we're going on a hayride today remember I know I already got up and got dressed good one I wish I'd thought of that last one in the parlor leaves is a rotten egg everything's covered in snow even our leaf pile it sure is pretty don't you think yes mama but what about the hayride well it looks like it's canceled it's too bad we can't jump in the leaves I wanted to make an even bigger pile than yesterday yes but think of all the things we can do in the snow what were you saying yesterday mama about today and tomorrow instead of wasting today wishing that it was yesterday go out and enjoy all that today has to offer all I can figure is that those sparrows must have thrown me a curve ball Oh papa hey good one so what do you want to do next hey sister hey brother isn't the snow great yeah I'm making a snow bear a snow bear meat come on sis mamma have you seen my gloves I thought I'd go out and do a little shoveling here they are I wonder how the Cubs are doing we're right here dear oh there you are I need an old hat and a carrot and something fries we're making a snow bear the biggest ever well I guess that answers your question mama and after we built the biggest snow bear ever Aidan and Bonnie came over and we built a huge snow fort you were right again mama the snow was even more fun than playing in the leaves we're glad we didn't waste today wishing that it was yesterday you went out and enjoyed all the today had to offer uh-huh yep speaking of which I think tomorrow would be a perfect day to go cross-country skiing great idea I love it when we all go skiing together and it looks like Papa's going to need to work off all those extra marshmallows he's putting in his hot cocoa yes well I can tell you one thing for certain I notice the snow falling straight down today that can only mean one thing tomorrow's weather is going to be just like today's they were going cross-country skiing you betcha I can't wait to go skiing I was just starting to get good at it last year could I get a hand here please I just finished waxing our skis they should be nice and smooth for today's skiing I'm not sure there's going to be any skiing today it's raining it started about ten minutes ago it's coming down so hard it's melted almost all of the snow are you sure papa alright the sparrow was flying close to the unturned leaves or something sorry I'm afraid not I was looking forward to our ski day together why couldn't the snow have stayed for one more day instead of all this miserable rain mama it was you who told us not to go wasting today wishing that it was yesterday yes you said that we should go out and enjoy all that today has to offer yes I know it's just that I was so looking forward to a family day of skiing now look at it out there it's cold wet and miserable well then maybe what today has to offer is a chance for us to enjoy a family day inside hey that sounds like a great idea so what should we do I know we could play a game and after that we could make ginger beer cookies mine is a summer bear he's going swimming mine is an honor bear she's going to fly a kite way up in the sky mine is a winter bear he's going skiing and mine is a spring bear she's planting flowers in the garden I'm glad we didn't waste today wishing that it was yesterday and I'm glad we enjoyed all but today had to offer hmm watching the way those raindrops are falling the old weather ologist can tell you one thing for sure whatever type of weather we have tomorrow I know we're going to enjoy it you betcha some things can't be hurried and waiting is no fun but when you keep busy soon the waiting is all done get ready in the outfield this one's gonna be a whopper told you I got it sister your fur what I didn't know it was a thistle bush hey you made the catch oh I wish there were another way to get all these burrs out but I'm never falling into a thistle bush again especially now then I'm gonna be bald you're gonna be bald no sister is not going to be bald that's the last of them no burrs and no bald what about my ribbon you'll have to wait for your fur to grow back a bit before we can put the ribbon back in but it looks silly without my ribbon well I think you look pretty as a picture with or without it picture well my fur go back by then mama well furrows when it grows you can't make it grow faster you have to be patient okay I'll try to be patient but it's not going to be easy hats aren't allowed in class sister you better take it off before professor actual factual sees you professor actual factual he's our substitute teacher today your fur doesn't look so bad he made it sound a lot worse on the phone hey it looks cool sister like something I saw on Teen Fair magazine it's a new style well sort of thanks but I know my fur looks silly it's even too short for my ribbon I just hope it curls back before picture day good morning class I thought it would be fun today to learn a bit about botany the science of plants now everyone gets a seed pot but they're yogurt cups professor recycled yogurt cups Queenie they could be used for all sorts of useful things like seed pots and we have all sorts of seeds here any siedel doof with lots of light for photosynthesis some water and good soil this seed will turn into something like this Wow what's photosynthesis photosynthesis is when plants use energy from sunlight to make the compound they need to grow are we gonna grow our own plants professor you bet help yourselves look mama we planted seeds in school today the professor says if we give it water and lots of light for photosynthesis it'll grow into a plant how long do you think it'll take mama well you might have to give it a little patience too because plants take a while to grow okay try to be patient now dear you know that staring at your plant won't make it grow any faster I could use some help cutting these cookies okay I don't understand it everyone's plan to started to grow except mine Lizzy's even has a flower perhaps your plant needs a little more time but I have to take it back to class on Monday the professor's coming back to see how our plants are doing everyone's going to see that mine isn't doing anything and Monday is picture day too Lizzy has a new ribbon so she'll look extra pretty I'm just going to look extra silly I'm afraid your fur will grow when it grows and not a moment before it's the same with your plant all you can do is wait and try to be patient but being patient is hard mama I don't want to wait I wanted to happen now maybe your fishing day with Gramps will help take your mind off it oh I don't feel like fishing but Gramps will be here any minute to pick you up okay but I'm not going to let him see my silly fur nothing like your mama's cookies these taste so good I bet you must have helped with them you know if there's something on your mind I can't think of a better place to talk about it than here at our old fishing tree after all it is our special place it's just that it's picture day at school on Monday and I got some birds in my fur and mama had to cut them out and now everyone's going to have a picture of how silly my fur looks oh I don't know it looks kind of cute to me kind of modern and we planted seeds for school and like my fur my plant isn't growing either I've been waiting for a whole week Gramps a whole week it sure is upsetting when things don't happen as fast as you want them to but still there are some things you just can't hurry so you just have to be patient that's what mama says I can't help it Gramps I want it to happen now I know exactly how you feel I found it really hard to wait for things when I was young too yep way back before our fishing tree was even here you see I planted it you planted the fishing tree Gramps but I thought it was here forever but not quite forever anyway it sure taught me about being patient well at first I thought it was going to sprout right away like something out of Jack in the Beanstalk but nothing happened still I kept coming back again and again it felt like it was taking forever finally I found something to keep myself busy to take my mind off all the waiting before I knew it that time had passed and the tree started to grow it grew bigger and bigger and bigger and that's how this old tree taught me about being patient I learned that there's no use getting all upset and frazzled when things don't happen right away because there's nothing we can do to make things happen faster all we can do is wait and be patient that's right waiting is really hard but if you find something to do while you're waiting it makes the time pass faster like fishing so instead of waiting let's do some fishing Gramps you don't want to forget these sister I'm sure it will sprout soon it just needs more time I know it'll grow when it grows and nothing will make it grow any faster I can be patient I don't need that today mama Thanks I'm not sure why your plan didn't sprout yet sister did you water it and put it in the sunlight yes professor hmm exactly what kind of seed did you plant one that I brought in Loris seed from the Apple I had for lunch on the day you came in my sister no wonder it hasn't sprouted yet you're growing an apple tree trees take much longer to grow than the ordinary flowers the rest of the class planted you mean it's going to be a tree just like Gramps fishing tree I've ever heard of a fishing tree before would you like to try a flower seed I promise you it'll grow in no time no thank you professor I'll just wait for my apple tree it might take a long long time to grow but some things you just can't hurry you just have to wait I know how to be patient teacher James class please come to the gym for your class picture aren't you coming sister oh I forgot that it was picture day oh well here goes yes Zuri cute as a button a button with funny fur but now it's all grown back and that's not the only thing that's grown Gramps shut up look at my apple tree so when anyone comes here they'll have the fishing tree to rest on and give them shade and they'll have an apple tree to give them a nice juicy snack it'll be a while before that happens but one thing's for sure your grandchildren will come here someday to enjoy your tree and its apples our trees Gramps but until then while we're waiting I couldn't think of a better way to pass the time
