face of the Philadelphia 76ers and I watch want you to conceptualize that for a second everything that the Philadelphia 76ers did was to build around Ben Simmons and Joel embiid those two individuals were the future of Philadelphia and everything seemed to have changed right after the Hawk series where Ben Simmons passed out of a wide open layup presumably to get out of shooting free throws now when Ben Simmons was interviewed about this this past summer he stated the reason why he did that was because he felt like the better play was to hit someone that wasn't right underneath the basket we'll forgive it but ever since then it's gotten very strange for Ben Simmons he demanded a trade out of Philadelphia to the point where he was willing to take a financial hit to not play for the Philadelphia 76ers and even when he did that his entire team in Philadelphia flew out to him begging him to stay he got traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Brooklyn Nets he had the opportunity to team up with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant once again when they were down 3 to nothing in the Boston IC series during Kev Durant and Kyrie Irving's final playoff series with the Brooklyn Nets and Simmons wasn't even willing to check in for 5 minutes saying that he was too injured to play now look man if he is truly injured and he truly can't play that's one thing a lot of the problem with analyzing this Ben Simmons situation is you don't really know what's going on with him Rich Paul once said that a mental block in Ben Simmons's head was causing him nerve pain in his lower back and to be honest that's something that I am not familiar with and I I've spent a decent amount of time pursuing medicine although I've never completed it and no I'm not a doctor but you must admit the entire scenario is very atypical Ben Simmons couldn't make it work out with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant the Brooklyn Nets decided to trade Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant and then they brought in Dori and Finny Smith Cameron Johnson and Mel Bridges thus creating a log Jam at the forward position you combine this with the fact that Ben Simmons refused to play the game that he was known for refused to drive inside the paint refused to improve his jump shot which the late great Kobe Bryant literally advised him to do so otherwise he'd regret it for the rest of his life well you got to get a jump shot you know it's it's like sounds humorous and all that but I'm dead Ser you can't like you know cuz if not he'll regret when his career is over which resulted in a lot of NBA fans turning their back on Ben Simmons and calling him mentally weak he lacked the work ethic to ever develop a jump shot he lacked the mental fortitude to stay in Philadelphia after a rough series and all of Philadelphia booing him and ever since then it was just getting worse and worse and worse and you didn't know if this was as a result of a lack of mental fortitude just being very mentally weak or if the guy was truly injured and he couldn't play but it's very strange because when he did play he didn't look like his former self and it got to the point where jacqu vau the coach of the Brooklyn Nets at the time said that he didn't know what to do with Ben Simmons here's a guy whose contract is literally screwing the Brooklyn Nets the Brooklyn Nets are composed of many solid players that have very good contracts especially Mel Bridges and then you have Ben Simmons that is barely playing 15 games a year riding the bench making $ 37.8 million this year and $4.3 million next year Jac Von himself said that he had no idea what to do with Ben Simmons Dorian finny Smith Mel Bridges and Cameron Johnson there's a log Jam at the forward position and when you do play Ben Simmons well hear it from jacqu Von yourself going to be uh some work that we have to do uh because you just take a look at what the lineups could potentially look like put another big next to B then you got to figure out what the spacing is around it then if you put a playmaker next to him then you got to figure out what Ben looks like without the basketball then if you go small without with Ben then you got to figure out can you rebound enough with the challenges are ahead of us we'll look them head on we'll figure it out we have the Personnel to figure it out whether it is me mixing and matching throughout different pieces of the game uh and allowing him to have a group and run with a group uh that part we'll figure out but you see um the challenges that lie ahead now this is all old news you guys already knew this I pretty much recited in every single Ben Simmons video just so you could understand the context of how absurd the situation is this is the highest paid player on the Brooklyn Nets by the way this is the reason why the Brooklyn Nets can't contend right now and at the same time time the Brooklyn Nets can't rebuild right now because they don't have their own draft pick so they're pretty much pushing to try to contend but you can't whenever your highest paid player is playing the way that Ben Simmons is when he is healthy and is typically not healthy now if you guys recall there is a Ben Simmons cycle the season starts he plays terrible there's a random back injury and then we get an offseason workout video and by the way I fall for this crap each and every year as such in the summer this time we got more than just a workout video we got a mark J Spears article called Ben Simmons locked in for comeback from injury in this article Ben Simmons said that he has never felt healthier he is a workout Warrior on Monday through Friday how his decline in play was because he was playing when he probably shouldn't have been playing last season and how even despite this he is trying to play in these games playing in games even though his body is failing him going into the game knowing that he's not able to his body is not allowing him to do certain things how frustrated he is how he still has tremendous love for the game and most importantly how his body is significantly stronger this is the strongest his core has ever been Everything feels easier for him and how he expects to get back to the all NBA all defensive player that he once was I'm still fast I can still jump high I'm still strong so yeah Royce O'Neal at the time said that Ben Simmons is working [Music] my boy B was messed up now like got surgery he's getting back but he love the game bro I think he's in a good place to all of us like we're close he's the one talking in the chat all the time and we all with him and obviously yeah we want him to score and stuff but we ain't pressed about it like you just want to be him be aggressive how do you find ways you can be a support system for him just be there with him man support him even if you struggle or whatever like that's cool like wherever City we go hang out go get dinner whatever like get ready for the next one I think that's the biggest thing just he could be confident enough to fail and know like we're there for him you don't want nobody to you feel that pressure every single time like oh if I don't play well oh these guys might not like me like n for me that's the case I just try to be there like listen bro you struggle you struggle like we here for you we want to be there through the process you shoot five Mes in a row you miss all five get shoot the six one you know what I'm saying he even said that he has tremendous love for Philadelphia and that his goal is to quote unquote dominate players next season but an offseason training puff piece wouldn't be complete without a signature highlight from Ben Simmons which is Ben Simmons making sure the whole world knows that he now has a jump shot he can hit through threes Now ladies and gentlemen this would extend to the preseason where Ben Simmons actually kind of looked like his old self for quite some time in the preseason jacqu vaugh even started believing in Ben Simmons and to be honest I think this belief in Ben Simmons is what made him lose his job Ben Simmons has played in a total of 15 games this is after playing in 42 games in Brooklyn last year so so far his entire Brooklyn tenure is the duration of the amount of games he played in the 2020 to 20 21 season and the crazy part is is his statistics are so bizarre averaging six points eight total rebounds and six assists shooting 58% from the field but if you look at his Advanced statistics he's a solid player 16.2 PR a negative .4 offensive box plus minus and a three defensive box plus minus his value over replacement player which is a box score estimate of the points per 100 team possessions that a player contributed above a replacement player Translate to an average team is a point4 so the craziest part about all this is Ben Simmons belongs in the NBA and he still has a niche in the NBA and he can still play in the NBA his problem is he hasn't been able to stay healthy and it seems like this is going to continue this year as sham channa officially said that the net say Ben Simmons is out for the remainder of the Season while he consults with Specialists and explores team options for the nerve impingement in his lower back this is really unfortunate but at the end of the day Ben Simmons wasn't really doing much for the Brooklyn Nets it seemed like they were forcing him out there just so they could figure out what to do with him a fan posted a 2023 to 2024 highlight video of Ben Simmons and to be honest on one hand I want to feel bad for this guy but at the same time I really can't feel bad for this guy because he's making more money than I ever will just to ride the bench and watch Mikel Bridges carve up defenses court side but what I will say is interesting is I really want to know what happened to Ben Simmons is this as a result of the wear and tear that basketball did to his body or is this as a result to what the game of basketball did to his head was there a mental block because he couldn't take the hate that the fans were giving him or did he actually just really injure his back and we're just not being empathetic about that I think that's the strangest part about all this because there's evidence that indicates that Ben Simmons never had the work ethic or the composure to be a great NBA player to begin with despite being very physically gifted but at the same time he could have sustained a lower back injury and as a result of the lower back injury he was never the same again at the end of the day I think Ben Simmons's ceiling is latching on with a brand new team in 2025 free agency but I also think it's very likely that Ben Simmons gets traded either this offseason or next offseason to a team that needs salary cap relief he becomes the Brooklyn Nets best trade chip next year and once they get rid of Ben Simmons the Brooklyn Nets actually have an opportunity to potentially contend believe it or not this Ben Simmons contract has held them back so much this year because that's pretty much 37 or $40 million of money that could have gone to anything else but a player that's just riding your bench consistently so at the end of the day it's a story that you guys know and heard of multiple times and it happened again Ben Simmons is out for the season and we know what's going to come next next video on this is going
