Being a CTO in an early stage startup

since last year you've been working for an early stage tech startup what have been the challenges would you say over the last five months in terms of transitioning into that role i guess the challenges for me are you having been working for larger organizations you expect things to be there processes resources if you need something done there's someone there generally to to pick up what you need done and run with it and get it done in an early stage startup a lot of those things you you end up doing yourself and you are spending time putting in processes and trying to work out the best way of doing something so really nothing's been done for you um i think that that's probably the biggest part of it is that you just take on so many different hats and you know i think it's exciting working in a startup because generally the people that you're working with are just as passionate and just as driven as you and and generally you won't find anybody that says oh no i can't do that you know if you need to help help with something you ask someone that says yep no problem and they just get in and help you do it so there's none of that well that's not my that's right it's not in my room there's none none of that so everybody knows that they just need to get in and get stuff done in terms of other challenges you know working working for a startup like i said before budget is always a focus you don't always have a lot of funds there to work with to do things so you'll look at you know how do we do that on a on a much tighter budget than you might ordinarily have working for a large organization you tend to find that it takes a lot to get things done um there's a there's a lot of momentum that has to be moved around to make things happen generally if you want a decision about something it's got to go you know a number of layers up above you to actually get that decision made working in a startup i'll report the ceo you know if i think we need to do something it's as simple as a five minute chat and she says do it just do it you know that's a great idea let's do it so that makes such a big difference to your day you can actually get in and make things happen you're not you know a small cog in a very large machine you're a very fundamental part of the machine you
