it's great to be back in austin obviously two years since we were last here it's a fun city and i think with the popularity of the netflix series we're seeing unprecedented levels of [Music] was interest in the river was born again and this water's the reason that my i body something really nice yeah it smells like bug oh hi guys [Music] [Music] so we're here in austin we are going to meet our oracle friends all of them and uh we're going to have a bit of fun [Music] partners that play a crucial role in our team and you know their partner's not just on the car but in the car as well one of the questions we've had is how much water do you drink during a race the problem we have is that the drink bottle first of all gets warm but we accelerate we you know we we choose when we want to drink right so you suck through the pipe but when we accelerate the water it's just going straight in so i don't know after like 10 15 laps the water bottle is empty anyway so you have no option like uh it's really hard sometimes you try to talk and you accelerate out of the corner and the portraits come again start the tour so um ellie this is when i need all of you as extras and all of you come in as if you're being led by toby he's going to walk you through and basically he's just giving you guys a tour of the facility so you're just walking with him kind of taking his his information in as the group keeps walking you guys peel off in a very whatever manner that is [Music] [Applause] oh it's great to be back in america in general we of course missed out on it last year and i think the crowd was bigger than ever the atmosphere was the biggest we've ever had at a u.s race and the whole place was just buzzing how you doing i'm loving it man the crowd out here is great all the people are listening doing everything they want to having fun and not to be anybody getting hurt and i love it if you call me son you what have you caught the sun yeah yeah i caught some sun come on look like a raccoon out here see you later it's great you know it is a special place it's great to see so many people to be honest you know everything opened up and nice to see the fans back a lot of people have suffered the sport have suffered from not have their fans so it's really nice to see everyone here and i really hope that we can bring a lot of happiness to all of them it's a really cool track i mean it has a lot of fast corners and especially the first sector is really enjoyable especially in qualifying but then in the race like the end of sector two and sector three there is a lot of opportunity for for overtake so it's definitely a very exciting track it's a very challenging track due to the bumps the amount of pumps that we have but it's a really enjoyable one no doubt mercedes will be strong but i really hope we can compete against them and give them a run for the money it's always been a great circuit for you know for lewis hamilton and mercedes have always been very strong here so they're going to be tough competitors but i really hope we can take the challenge to them this weekend and hopefully be a little closer than we were in in istanbul [Music] [Music] look like you brought your own club yeah of course well i had them anyway so the problem is right i'm a lefty yeah so when you go and rent left-handed clubs they're like awesome they're like terrible so i couldn't have that it was a good day and obviously it's gonna be very tight it's all about tomorrow saturday trying to put it all together and trying to find those couple of things that could put us in the mix for football tomorrow it was a promising fp2 but yeah there's a lot to be done to try to improve the car and i also feel that there is so much to still improve our longer pace so yeah all in all i think it's a positive friday but we'll see tomorrow where we end up [Music] it's great you know coming here so many mexican flags so much support really nice to see a lot of blue cabs a lot of blue shirts yeah very nice [Applause] this is a good idea clever guys [Music] [Music] i think qualifying again there's been no other team other than mercedes on pole since 2013 so this last seven years it's been a stronghold so that that's going to be the first challenge to uh to get as high on up the grid and if we can challenge the pole that would be you know that would be unbelievable [Music] it was a very good spot by the mechanics of the back of car 33 they spotted a hairline crack and then were able to make repairs in time for qualifying it was a very quick turnaround yeah it's uh every point counts you know six races to go and we have to be really into it yeah it's an intense one okay keep on for now [Applause] [Applause] guys i think there's a team also today he did a really good job nice turnaround from yesterday as well i think especially after friday we never expected to get near the pole so and having been dominated by mercedes for the last seven years it was a real landmark moment for us to achieve that whole position so and not just with one driver with both drivers in contention you know checo having his best qualifying of the year was on the provisional poll after the first run in q3 and then max doing just enough at the end with a bit of weather closing in um to seal that that crucial pole position it was going really well you know i only got two tendency to turn one [Music] and then i think i lost a bit too much in the final sector with the rain kicking in i lost a bit too much how you feeling about tomorrow yeah i'm pretty optimistic you know i think we can we can put a good fight together together with max and hopefully bring that one to for the team [Music] [Applause] i was born [Applause] lord have mercy on [Music] i think we kind of got used to it you know the the virtual experiences and people tend to enjoy it but i i look forward for it to change you know and hopefully in a new future this will be different [Applause] [Music] yeah it's a very good city um a lot of good food a lot of good well good atmosphere in general you know so you can definitely have a lot of fun around here um [Music] [Music] [Applause] we had a bit of a tough time um and today again like a little bit surprisingly we were first i would say normally this is a real mercedes track yeah um but of course very happy with the performance today but i'm also worried that you know it can be different again next race weekend it has been good to us in the past i'm looking forward to it but we have to really nail every single detail you know to be up there max so there are many beautiful pieces of strategy in f1 pit stop strategy undercut teamwork um etc what do you think is the most important piece for tomorrow what's on your mind going into tomorrow it's very hard on tires tomorrow it's going to be very warm so likely it's not going to be a one stop like most of the races so probably two stop but then again i mean to do an undercut or an over card depends a bit on traffic put your hands together ladies and gentlemen [Music] well i think it's beyond all our expectation to be coming into the you know into this race in the lead of the drivers championship who would have believed that at the beginning of the year so if we can hold that lead through this weekend at this venue and that'll be a major achievement [Music] if it's great to finally be back you know and in austin mexico is coming up brazil you know things are starting to to move on you know and that's something great to see i think our sport have suffered from it but a lot of people have done as well so it's nice to go to these countries and give them something to cheer on i think we can be competitive i've had some some good races here been on the podium so hopefully of course we uh yeah we can be competitive again this weekend but time will tell there's not much really you can do i know that when i come to a race we can i always do the best i can um and i don't look at who is the favorite i just look at what can i do to be faster and how can i win the race and that's how i approach every every weekend we are actually fighting for the title yeah it's an incredible achievement from on both sides [Applause] [Music] you should force have to not to go along with checker press and hold overtake press and hold overtake one point yes guys [Music] i think we've seen over the first 16 or 17 races it's been incredibly close between the two leading teams and i think that's going to continue all the way down to the wire we're under no illusions that every race is going to be a real fight and i think it's going to be like that every single race of the remaining five [Music] [Applause] [Music] it was felt like we were getting back to normal it was the first long-haul race with full crowd paddock open guests and fans you know everywhere the media back yeah it was it was great to be back and reminded you of what we've missed pretty much the last two years i hope you guys are as excited as i am for the upcoming races because we have a good feeling here thank you so much fantastical racing i'm very proud of everyone out there but we gotta keep pushing this is our championship to to win and in mexico we look forward to that [Music] you
