as his stepdad encouraged him ringo started listening to skiffle songs this came after attempting a number of odd jobs that did not pay well star purchased his first drum kit in 1957 years later they were able to form a real band with real instruments to play he adopted the stage name ringo starr at this period the name came from the ring he used to wear on his finger rory storm in the hurricanes
